It has become our go-to spot when we want a simple, relaxing meal featuring comfort food, or just a nice bowl of ramen. Our favorite dishes include: Tonkotsu Shoyu Ramen ($15.99) -- This comes with three rectangular slices of chashu that are nicely lean, with just enough fat to add flavor. The half-boiled egg was cooked to perfection, the noodles had an ideal texture, and the broth was rich and flavorful. The portion was just right for me. Unagidon ($20.99) -- Fluffy sushi rice topped with fillets of eel glazed in a sweet soy-based sauce, served with miso soup. The bowl is full of flavor and very satisfying. The portion is perfect for me as well. Fried Mini Octopus ($10.99) -- We love the crispy, delicious mini octopus. It's a great appetizer to share. On our most recent visit, my husband ordered the Nabeyaki Udon ($17.99), which was topped with shrimp tempura, fish cake, tempura flakes, half an egg, and scallions. The bowl was tasty, but when comparing it with a similar dish at another Japanese restaurant in Northbrook at the same price, we found the portion at Nomu a little less generous. The other restaurant included an additional tempura shrimp and many chicken pieces, while Nomu's version did not include chicken. Because of that, my husband will probably stick with their ramen rather than order the Nabeyaki Udon again. All in all, we really enjoy our meals at Nomu Ramen and Izakaya. With friendly and attentive service, clean and comfortable seating, and a convenient location close to home, we'll definitely keep coming back! 4.5 rounded up to 5 stars.

The dining room is really pretty, and well-appointed! We were seated right away by friendly staff. Looking around, this appeared to be a very family-friendly establishment, as that was, by far, the most prominent type of connoisseur in the house on this evening! Our waitress was wonderful, and helped us with some recommendations upon us letting her know it was our first visit! She checked in with us frequently, and made sure drinks were always refilled promptly! We had a bunch of different items, and all were very good! We tried sushi rolls, beef noodles, and ramen. I'd have to say that the beef noodles probably were the best item for me! Prices were just about as you'd expect: not too high, but not super cheap either...but wholly justified by the great food and lovely service and experience! The other struggle will be with parking as this place is generally very packed during dinner hours. After several visits here, I've decided that the best way to order is to get large dishes to share with others. While, individual size servings are great -- there is a ton of spots nearby great for 1-2 people, but this spot does offer some nicely presented large dishes like bossam which are great for serving. I also find the seafood pancake to be a generous size with plenty of seafood and a nice crisp edge. These are definitely prepared with minimal seasoning, relying instead on an assortment of sauces to infuse the food with flavor. The bulgogi similarly, is tender and presented with lots of cabbage, more of a cold day comfort food instead of a seared version with thick sauce as you may find in other nearby locations. Definitely aim for some spicy dishes like the spicy pork bbq with mozzarella cheese if you're coming here, as the spicy options are on a different level of flavor and depth (similar to most Asian food you'll find in the area). Again, the meat is prepared very tender with an explosion of flavor. Overall, excellent food with excellent presentation and surprisingly affordable pricing. Probably one of the best values you'll find from a Yelp Top 100 US restaurant.

I understand that we live in a time where American gen z gets offended by everything. Some of the reviews are just plain dumb, they didn't even eat anything or they walked in and walked out. This review is from someone that actually experienced it. We came on a Saturday night around 7:40 pm. There were only a few occupied tables. Two large groups and one couple. The ambiance was laidback with good music. It was only loud because the two large tables were laughing annoyingly, loud. The young Asian table drank one sip of beer and all of a sudden, their laughter echoed throughout the whole place. I'm Asian myself but I can hold my alcohol. The parking lot is shared since it's in a strip mall. To clarify, we did have to wait 50 mins before we started receiving our food. I believe Jun was the only chef and he made everything from scratch. He finished serving the other tables before he got to our order. FYI, Jun said the prices haven't been updated on the printed menus. I would say 4.5 out of 5 is good. I only took off half a point because the two large tables' laughter were cringy and vexing. We ordered bulgogi tacos, o-deng tahng (fishcake soup), garlic chicken wings, and sweet potato fries. -bulgogi tacos 5 - it says 3 on the menu but you actually get 4. Each taco is packed with the same amount of meat as the others. The chips and the housemade salsa are good too. -o-deng tahng 5 - the fishcake soup is so colorful and the broth has a mildly spicy flavor. This can be shared between 2-3 people. Highly recommended. -garlic chicken wings 5 - they are much larger than what you see in the picture. They are very meaty and I like that you can actually smell/taste the garlic. -sweet potato fries 5 - I loved how small and skinny they are, yet they are mighty in flavor. The seasoning was just right.

Quite a surprise for me since the photos of this spot suggest that this is an obscure dive bar. But…read morethe food here is beyond passable bar food -- and is actually very good. The atmosphere here is definitely unique, unlike most restaurants, and even bars in the suburbs. Definitely great if you're someone who is into sports, comic books, and also likes to discover hidden gems. Service here is best described as prompt but sassy, but also something that can't be accurately described (in a good way) and just needs to be experienced in person. I'm not exactly sure if there's a menu, as the regulars seem to already know what to order - but this is something that can be researched online and is both bolder in flavor and more interesting than what you can typically find in a bar, or Korean restaurant. Kind of a fusion between familiar and tasty American bar food -- but with Korean influences to elevate the flavors. All the food I tried here shined both in texture and flavor. The seafood pancake had a great crisp on the outside and generous amounts of seafood inside. It was packed with tasty herbs and a slightly chewy texture that was still fantastic after I reheated it the next day. The Korean fried chicken used large wings and drumsticks, which really helped to provide more tender and moist meat than some local competitors. This was super crispy, possibly more crispy than similar options at Bonchon and CM chicken. A small warning for the spicy options, as this is a higher spiciness level than what many people may be used to with fried chicken. The kimchi fried rice has a great mix of egg, kimchi, and seasonings that create a delicious dish even for those who may not particularly care for the flavor profile of kimchi. Putting the flame torch to the egg and rice adds a good smokiness to the dish, and the mix of onion and egg really adds a lot of umami to the dish. Overall, this is a unique dining experience and worth a visit as the food is flavorful, inexpensive, and well executed. Especially worth a visit for anyone who likes bar food but wants something a bit higher quality and packed with flavors -- this is definitely not the menu you'd find at a traditional Korean spot.

Great addition to the area that is forming new k-town in Chicago. Chicken is pretty big compared to other wing places like buffalo wild wings, Wingstop, etc, but it's not jumbo size where it's a hassle to eat or sometimes not enough flavor all around. So Bonchon did a great job with picking out perfect size chicken, and with their unique sauce and crispness is one of the best chicken I ever had. And thank god they have beers...fried chicken without complimentary of beer just doesn't work. I also liked how they had local Chicago beer, revolution brand. They have a lot of other dishes other than chicken, and I was not expecting much from it since this is a chicken spot, but fried rice and bull dak had a different story for me at least. The fried rice had nice rich flavor, better than most of the Chinese restaurant around I had tasted, and bull dak, as it should be, was very spicy but good flavor. Again, beer helped with fried rice and especially bull dak. Although it was a long wait, I think it was definitely worth it and I will try other dishes next time! read more

I really liked the food here. There was a bit of a wait for the food, but everything came out really tasty and satisfactory. The first thing we had was a salmon ball. It was as its name implies, a ball wrapped in soft cooked salmon, and inside was veggies and imitation crab meet. It was really delicious ! We also ordered some fries, these were crispy and brown, and something nice to snack on inbetween bites. The next thing we had was a combo of chicken wings and drums in the Ginger Soy and Spicy. They were both really delicious and crispy, but I preferred the Ginger since I can't handle my spiciness that well. By the way, while you dine, you get to listen to some Korean Pop and rock. It's a really nice casual environment with also some TV's in the background in case you want to watch something. Overall I think this was a great first experience with Bonchon. The staff were kind and attentive, the food delicious, and the atmosphere was good. read more
