THIS is why women run away to Paso Robles wine country with "just a few friends" and somehow return with six bottles, a wine club membership, and absolutely no regrets. Learning more about Bon Niche Cellars during the Pleasant Valley Wine Trail Twilight Tasting made me love this region even more. A woman-owned and veteran-owned winery with genuine personality, warmth, and heart behind it? That's my kind of people. I especially loved hearing more about Melanie and the spirited energy she brings to the Bon Niche brand. There's something refreshing about wineries that still feel personal -- where the people behind the label actually matter and the stories feel real. But what really stayed with me was learning more about the Pleasant Valley Wine Trail collective itself. Fourteen wineries supporting one another while also giving back through scholarship and agricultural education efforts for the local community? THAT is what separates Paso Robles from other wine regions. The people here still feel connected instead of competitive, and the warmth feels authentic instead of curated by a marketing department in a beige office somewhere. Honestly... Paso wine country still feels like humans built it. And Bon Niche absolutely feels part of that magic. Went to 6 wineries this last weekend. This was my favorite place. Rustic setting with farm animals running around. Nice views of the north east side. File this place under hidden gems down a long windy off the beaten path country road. It's so much better than those huge conglomerate corporate wineries. The people running the place were super cool and friendly. (Names always escape me ) but we all had a great time. The wine itself was outstanding and not overly priced. Be prepared to spend in the $40s and up. I think the Albariño was in the $30s. I ended up with two bottles. Which is considered splurging for me. Also it was the first place in our winery weekend. The Zinfandel blew me out of the water. I can't put into words how it tasted. It was just rich and earthy. Not like a normal zin. Not jammy or sweet. The bulk of the reds wee bold with a tartness. I personally like that profile. Some of my group are too picky. Some don't like tart type reds. Three of the five of us did buy wines so that was a miracle. The first red I can't remember what it was but I bought a bottle. There was this brown sugar caramal aftertaste I loved. Nobody else detected that hose aftertastes. Wine tasting is very subjective. Loved the atmosphere and Animals like sheep and a pigs running around plus the fact this place is deep into tue middle of nowhere made it extra special. You want gold you gotta dig deep. Check this place out. Start your day here if you plan on exploring the north of the 46 and east of the 101 for some unique and special wines without any pretentiousness. read more

My family and I had a wonderful day at Bon Niche. Not only is it a magical property but the owner makes you feel like family. It's truly a special vibe that she's cultivated here. The cherry on top were all of the beautiful wines we tried. Whites and reds and everything in between and our opinionated group enjoyed it all (a rare bird indeed). We can't wait to come back here and spend more time with the lovely owner and adorable farm animals. read more

We were in the area and saw Bon Niche on the map so decided to stop by. We had no reservation, but Melani kindly let us interrupt her lunch with a friend and offered us tastings and a visit with her animals. She provided carrots for us to feed them and they were a lot of fun to interact with. She set us up with an umbrella and a view that overlooks the hills and you can watch the animals roam through the vineyard. We got to meet her grandpa and chat with her and her friend for quite a while. Such a lovely and personable experience. I believe the tasting included 5-6 wines and was very affordable. The wines were great and we ended up buying several bottles. We really appreciated our time here. If you are looking for an intimate experience that includes fun animals and great wine and views you should definitely check it out. read more

This place is the definition of a hidden gem and a must visit when you go to paso. The property is adorable and peaceful-they have a 9 day old newborn baby lamb you can pet right now! Also a few giant pigs and other cute farm animals on the property. Such a nice owned family winery and the wine was our favorite out of all the wineries we went to! read more

The service by far was fun! The ambiance was chill and had you appreciate the property. She is very much family oriented and you get to know everyone! No food here but she will allow your food. The rocking chairs were so much fun! The wine was very good. She let us roam the property and see her family of pets. FYI don't turn your back on Elvis unless you want a butt tap. So happy to have started our first trip to Paso with a tasting here. The whole experience was personal and relaxed. We heard a lot about what goes in to winemaking and the thing specific to the area. I really enjoyed the Malbec! So glad we went here. We called on a Thursday and they accommodated us. It's a tiny bit off the beaten path but a pretty drive and less of a crowd too. We will return. Cannot recommend this place enough. Melani, the owner was not only very knowledgeable but also accommodating towards our newborn son and two pit bulls. Bon Niche offers a wonderful experience for wine tasting.  Seating is outside on a covered patio with a view of their vineyard.   It was one of the most wondering sunset tasting experience. Their wines are spectacular, you're treated like a family. Melani kindly accommodated us on a relatively short notice. She has served in the Armed Forces and her experiences were very proudly represented. We're so excited to come back to this winery the next time. read more

Had an awesome experience at Bon Niche. We made a reservation and when we pulled up we weren't sure if it was open, but the tasting area is around back. Beautiful views of Paso, great wine, very friendly owner, and dog friendly. The Sauvignon Blanc and Malbec were standouts, but everything was great. read more

Joyce was such a wonderful host during our recent tasting! Finding their tasting room took some time and perseverance, but it was definitely worth it! A small production winery with a quaint and comfortable tasting room. Their tasting fee is $10/pp but is waived if wine is purchased. We especially liked their 2010 Voyage and their 2013 The Manor which is 100% Cabernet. In addition, we also purchased a couple of bottles of their 2013 Dessert Wine/Port which is called 4400.01 (cute story behind why they named it this). After going to Napa/Sonoma for many years, this was our first trip to the Paso Robles area, and we will definitely be back! read more

I would give this a 10 star! My boyfriend and I visited this winery last weekend. What a treat! Melani was so warm and friendly! We sat outside overlooking the beautiful views of her winery. Cozy, and quaint is the feeling I got. She was so knowledgeable and really knows her wine! It was refreshing to see that she really takes pride in what she does and is doing what she loves. What a wonderful, personal, delicious tasting we had at Bon Niche! We had a reservation for a party of 8, which obviously means we were running late to our appointment, but Joyce and Wally welcomed us with such hospitality! They served 8 or 9 different wines, in addition to the most delicious bacon-chipotle spread, crackers, and cheeses! All of the wine they served was delectable! read more
