I have been coming to Bon Appétit for four years on my yearly vacation and have never been disappointed. The European ambiance, the great food, and wonderful service provided by the well trained staff. This year is a different story. After we sat at our table our waiter took our order for our drinks. As should be proper, they should be served from the left of the person seated. Instead it was served border house reach style, leaning across the table and setting the wine glass down. We started with an order of raw oysters, $18.00 for six and as stated on the menu, $36.00 for 12. What a bargain!!! We had to ask for a fork to eat them and we were given a dinner fork. My entree was the "Brown Derby" Crab Louie. I asked the server if the salad was served with pieces of blue crab and he said yes. What I got was a round mound of chopped avocado, onions, cucumber, and tomatoes sprinkled with minced mystery fish, with hard boiled egg on the side. On the bottom was sliced raw zuchinni, I guess the romaine bed ran out. We ordered more wine, one glass was served in about 5 minutes and the other glass took 20 minutes. When the waiter served us our meal he did not take the dirty dishes away, just pushed them aside on the table. I had to bus my own table, luckily the one next to me was empty where I could put our used dishes and glasses. I know that this restaurant has been bought by Crabby Bills. I blame the poor service on the manager, lack of training is the problem. As far as the food, go to Crabby Bills and get the same food for less with better service. Au Revoir as it was not a Bon Appétit for us. P.S. We just got back from the Columbia Restaurant/Gulf Blvd. It was everything that the Bon Appetit was at one time, but not any more. Thank goodness for a fabulous sunset, good service from Sara, and the Bouillabaisse! Met a few friends in Dunedin and we decided to eat here and watch the sunset- once the sun went down, the heat lamps came on and we were HOT! The place was packed, so I'm sure the restaurant is a staple (apparently for almost 50 years). Our starters were mostly fantastic- they were sides, but we made them starters- highly recommend the truffle fettuccine, brussel sprouts, and mushroom risotto. We also got the shrimp special- and it was nothing special. Then we ordered a couple of dinners to share amongst the three of us- get the bouillabaisse! The trout almandine special was okay and the cauliflower picatta should be avoided. It's worth the visit for the sunset or on a gorgeous afternoon to grab a drink with friends on the Gulf- but the food was hit and miss. We will try it again for lunch someday soon. read more

I ordered the Osso Bucco on top of sweet potato with asparagus. The dish was a 4 out of 5 only because a few bites were dry but most was excellent, very meaty, very little to no fat. Dessert was the Crème Brûlée. It was not a small portion. Very delicious. Husband had Bouilliabase which was full of seafood, mostly mussels, and he said it was excellent. Dessert was Key Lime Pie, also delish. Service was very good. Our waitress very astute. The dining area was nice. We sat at the window, inside, overseeing the Gulf. Although air conditioned, we were seated next to a very sunny window. It was quite hot. Loved the pianist. That topped it off for this 40th anniversary dinner celebration. read more

The dinner and service was excellent inside. The waiter was great! However, when we went outside for a drink after dinner, we were unaware they were done serving drinks. When we tried to order a drink at the bar, the older gentleman bartender completely ignored our presence. We stood there for about 10 min. When we asked if they were till serving drinks they said "No, we are done." I completely understand that they had a certain time they stopped serving drinks, but to not even acknowledge our presence and ignore us was completely rude. read more

We made a reservation for Thursday night for 4 people, got great seats, and nice view. We didn't know what to expect but we knew that the view will be nice. Service was outstanding, very knowledgeable and attentive. His name was something "Serbia". He definitely was more of an old school waiter, respectful, dressed nice, and very attentive. Nowadays so hard to get a good server, even in Michelin star restaurants, often times you see young servers who smell like weed, and don't want to be there. So we were very pleased with service. They have a very large wine selection. We got a seafood tower and it was amazing. We loved it very much. I had scallops for main. Dessert: tiramisu and chocolate cheesecake balls. All food was great, we were positively surprised with how great food was. The only reason it is 4 and not 5 stars is because of the restroom. It was very dirty, with toilet paper everywhere and it smelled bad. Also it was Thursday not super busy day, they should keep bathroom clean. Other than that, everything was great. read more

I dined last night at Bon Appetit Restaurant for my first time. The dining area right on the water is breathtaking! There was a live piano player the entire evening inside the restaurant: great ambiance. At the start they bring fresh warm bread with butter and herbed olive oil to the table. The variety of the bread was diverse as well- very tasty. I ordered the french onion soup for starters: it was very flavorful and tasty- I loved it. For my entree I had the Dover sole dinner. It was delicious: de-boned at the table. The vegetables were perfectly cooked and well as the fingerling potatoes and both were not drowned oil or overly salty- a plus for me. For dessert I had the key lim pie that was also very good and came with raspberry sorbet with fresh whipped cream. Overall it was a very enjoyable and tasty meal with lovely environment. I would definitely return here for a meal. I dined inside, but they also have a lovely on the water outside dining with bar area too. It looked to be more casual and more of regulars. read more

I can definitely relate to those who posted this place is "good" but not something I'd go out of my way for. This was our first time. The staff was great, the menu is pricey especially when it comes out is smaller than expected portions based on photos. But it was good. They had great selections for beer, their food didn't have a ton of options. Nothing for kids. The outdoor seating is nice. If you looking for a nice date restaurant, this is probably a safe bet but there wasn't anything that really stood out. read more

It saddens me to write a bad review for Bon Appetit. My family and I have enjoyed Bon Appetit for many years. Unfortunately, we had an absolute terrible service experience last night on Valentines Day. Of all the days, my wife encountered a combative male server in the outside dining area around 7pm. The server snapped at my wife when she asked to wait in reviewing the menu until i got to the table. He said "I will review the menu now" and later asked my wife to "chill out lady" when she asked him to wait again. I was up the street helping my daughter find a parking space because parking was nuts. When I got to the table my wife was actually shaking because she was so angry After she told me what happened I told her we should go. We are not spending $500 on a ruined dining experience. As we began to walk out my wife told the server "don't worry, we are leaving". The server said to my wife "what did I do and said a name but covered his name tag". Crazy! Bon Appetit, we have spent a good amount of money for good food, but we have always loved the experience more. Sad to say, but we will not be back read more

The sunsets in Dunedin are always amazing so cannot go wrong with ambiance. However, outside dining does not allow reservations so plan accordingly for sunset. Service is always top notch. A perfect Friday afternoon, sitting out on the deck, enjoying the water views. Our server Rya made us feel right at home. We told her we were on a four-day weekend from Pennsylvania and she made us feel very welcome. She explained the menu to us and answered all of our questions. Coming from up north we wanted to have seafood and she recommended the clam bake which was out of this world. I even recommended it to other tourists as a great special. Our biggest concern was how our waiter from Serbia ( never got his name ) ripped us off by serving us 9oz glass of wine without offering the 6 oz .i ordered the surf and turf special the was supposed to be $97. That was fine . However, the waiter intentionally charged me for a filet mignon $55 and a lobster tail $55. This was criminal behavior and he should be let go . Bon Appetit Restaturant in Dunedin , our all time favorite waterfront seafood restaurant !!!! Celebrated a "mom and me exclusive belated birthday dinner" for my daughter. We chose this place because they are the only place near us where we know of that serves fresh whole Maine lobster with attached claws and all. We were doted on with service deluxe by a lovely young lady whose name is Careena, alongside with 2 other food servers...talking about VIP treatment!!! The dinner lobsters were huge and baked to perfection! The shrimp stuffing we asked to serve on the side and served in style! Careena (beautiful outstanding service with a smile always) got us started with complimentary champagne from the start, and food and beverages, hot tea in beautiful porcelain teapots and cups , with dessert and a birthday candle was so nicely presented. Oh and not to forget the freshly baked rolls and rolled butter just first class all the way...fine dining at its best! Went home so happy, that even the valet parking attendant was so courteous , we were so pleased with our overall VIP treatment/experience! Manager Hugo greeted us on our way out and that added a warm welcome even more! On August 31, 2024, I wanted to celebrate my 23rd anniversary of retirement from a Pennsylvania steel mill so naturally I chose the best restaurant in Tampa Bay to have dinner. I was fortunate to get a table in the main dining room and had a view of St. Joseph Sound and the 8 pm sunset. That really added to my dining experience. Chobbo was my very efficient server and I started the night off with a Dirty Martini ($12) made by Rachel the bartender. It had two bleu cheese olives. The drink was great. Next I opted for the grilled octopus with vegetables ($19). It was perfect and the saffron sauce was to die for. Lots of different veggies and plenty of octopus on the plate. You have to try it. For my main I decide on the 12 oz N.Y. strip ala Oscar ($54) done medium. It arrived as requested with red in the middle, a scoop of crab meat on top and a ton of asparagus, carrots, green beans and roasted potatoes that were still hot. The strip had a delicious full deep flavor that I was craving. For dessert I went with the petite Pina Colada ($4) which is sort of mousse concoction with pineapple on top. I loved it. I finished with an Ocean Mist drink with blueberries ($12) as I watched the sun set over Caladisi Island. The bill came to a little over $100 and I tipped Chobbo $25. As other servers passed my table, they said hello. Very friendly and inviting. The managers came over to see how i was doing and to make sure my food was properly prepared. Came here because I had a gift card and heard from a friend the views were great and the food was amazing. I was greeted by friendly staff. I had a reservation that I made online for 6:30pm but I arrived a little after 6pm. The reservation system was easy to use and modify. I was seated immediately at a table by a window. The blinds were drawn due to the sun but they assured me that they would open the blinds once the sun was setting. Once seated, I was greeted by my server, Simon. He brought me a water and I ordered a Pepsi. They use paper straws, which I love for the purpose and for the environment but the change the taste of things in my opinion. I always carry a silicone travel straw so I was able to use that. I started off with the lobster bisque for $13.95. It was Lobster Fest so that was a treat. The lobster bisque was finished with a sherry wine and topped with whipped cream. This was very good but the bowl in came in was a little awkward. It was like a plate with a bowl in the middle. If the soup spilled on the plate it would splatter and make a mess. It was flavorful and had big chunks of lobster in it. I also ordered the Snails for $14. This was my favorite! They are baked in a Sweet Garlic, Herb & Shallot Curry Butter. They are served with a Mini Baguette. This was amazing! So much flavor! Would order this again. For my entree I ordered the half rack of New Zealand lamb for $34. This had an Herbal Pecan Crust and Natural Jus. It was a mint sauce that went well with the lamb. I ordered mine medium rare and they came out that way. Unfortunately more of the bone was covered in the Herbal Pecan Crust than the lamb. It came with potatoes and some vegetables that were very oily. Both the lamb and the vegetables were disappointing, especially for the price. For dessert I ordered the Creme Brûlée, which was served with fresh berries. This was very good! The service was a bit lacking though. After I ordered the soup and the snails. It went downhill. My server checked on my less and came by less. He walked by me at least twice when I needed a refill on my water and soda. It was an interesting set up. Someone would bring the various food items for myself and other patrons and place it on a table out of the way. Then the server(s) would deliver to the table. My rack of lamb sat for about 8 minutes on that table before being delivered by my server. The views were fantastic but the service was not. That makes the overall experience decline.
