Toppings that they brought to the table

Either this place has changed a lot since all the negative reviews were posted, or those people are just wrong, because Bombay Bazaar was a fantastic experience not only food-wise but also service-wise. Perhaps they have added on the restaurant section or at least expanded it recently, because they have a full dining room and waitstaff that showed none of the negative traits I saw described in other reviews. All the employees we interacted with were very attentive and genuinely interested in making our meal there a good experience, asking multiple times how everything was, chatting, etc. The food was not only excellent but also different from the options available at most Indian restaurants in the area. I think that probably owes to the fact that this place seems more Pakistani than Indian. The wall decor was of Pakistan, the menu is all halal, and they serve beef. Seems pretty Pakistani to me, I'm not a huge expert but those are just some signs on top of the fact that the nihari we ordered is considered a Pakistani national dish according to Google. I was warned as I ordered that the beef nihari is very spicy, but figured I'd be able to handle it. It does pack quite a punch, but it's definitely manageable, nothing crazy. The flavor of this dish was very distinct, the taste of the beef spread throughout the dish and the broth made a great dipping sauce for our naan and rice. I ordered a piece of roti (the one pictured that's not the garlic naan) but it looked just like naan, not sure if theirs just looks different but it definitely had a taste that wasn't the same as naan so I think it's what I got. Not complaining because it was still tasty, just not what I expected. Since my favorite South Asian place, Dhaba Indy, closed down, I've been looking for a good replacement...Biryani Hut just isn't as good, Fresh Indian Grill in Carmel is too far away and too expensive...Bombay Bazaar might just fill the void.

Chicken Biryani, after I was done eating!

Visiting Indy and chose this place for takeout. I'm a huge Indian food fan, and this is the best biryani I've had in a long time, maybe ever. They were out if goat/lamb biryani so I had chicken. It had a lot of chicken - bone-in, tender and savory. So, so good and a huge portion - would easily feed 3. Also had Aloo Tikki app, which was great, served with a nice coriander (I think) chutney. And! I had the chana dal which was also great - perfectly spicy and very flavorful. Good prices for the quality and quantity. Would definitely be a regular if I lived here! They didn't appear to have dine-in - it's also an Indian grocery - but that may have just been due to COVID. I'd probably stick with takeout anyway.

The best tandoori and biryani is here at Bombay Bazaar - a hole-in-the-wall tucked behind 116th street and Allisonville intersection. Walking in, eyes lost into literally a bazaar. Rows of dry goods packed on disheveled shelves, post-it notes plastered behind the cash register, countertops covered with prepared food, halal meat sold in the back case. Don't let the appearance deter you away from how sanitary your food is. We waited for about 10 minutes to put in a food order since they were so busy. Majority of the customers were Indian/Pakistani which means the food must be authentic. Be accustomed to South east Asian/Asian customer service in general which is very little or none. It's order your food, wait, and take your food out. No time for chit chat. I found the owner very helpful and he handed us a paper take-out menu to call ahead and order next time so we don't have to wait for 30-45 minutes. We stayed on the safe side and ordered tandoori chicken and chicken biryani, went across the street to do some shopping. Upon returning, the owner was bagging up our take out. The char from the oven and spice aroma made my tummy grumble as we were driving home in the car. No utensils included. Wanted to make a dive in it with my hands but no wet naps to clean them off with. Finally home and the food didn't leak in the bag. Opened up the styrofoam boxes and it smelled so delicious. Large portion of spiced biryani rice and good amount of chicken included. It wasn't greasy or wet. Perfectly dry and fluffy. Careful with the green sauce included though, it's on the spicy side. The tandoori chicken only had drumsticks, no thighs. It was delicious paired with the raw red onion and squeeze of lime. Probably one of the better Indian places that's not a buffet I've been to. Definitely returning to try something else new!

LAMB/GOAT BIRYANI RICE

This little gem is neatly located in a strip plaza near my home and I have been passing it for years. Several weeks ago I visited their website and decided that I wanted to try their rice, the first order of rice was chicken biryani which was very delicious followed by three more orders, separate of course, of the Lamb / goat Biryani rice. It's simply fantastic and I cannot wait to try their Buffet.

Came across this place on yelp while in the area and decided to give it a try. They have full size…read moresandwiches or you can do a flight of smaller versions of any 3 sandwiches. Which is unique and I feel like the perfect way to try a little of each item. The flight was more than filling. All items are à la carte however if you get a side you do get a drink. You order at the counter and then they bring your food to your table. Self serve fountain drink station A couple tvs and not a ton of seating and it was very quiet as they weren't busy on a Monday night They do charge a service fee for card. The burgers were all cooked to perfection, everything tasted fresh and well seasoned and you could taste each ingredient in the sandwich. I thought the chicken was good but nothing special My hubby thought the same about the falafel The burgers are where it's at The onion rings has a nice crunch and weren't too bad just a little greasy Sidewinders fries were a huge portion and enough for 2 people to share. Definitely looking forward to coming back here.

Overall this was an "okay" experience, although I'm not sure if I'll go out of my way to come back…read more I'll stick to the basics: Food: My Mushroom & Swiss burger was good. Not spectacular, but good. The Sidewinder fries were nicely cooked. The star of this show was unexpected; the Caesar side salad was presented beautifully and was an unusually large portion (being that it was just a side item). Ambience: They're in a relatively small space. It's a burger bar, so it is what it is, but at least the building is in a nice place in Carmel. Service: You order at the counter/register, and they bring the food to your table. Service was prompt. Those three categories were all good, but I think this was just a case where the whole seemed less than the sum of its parts. They do appear to offer boxes of sliders as a take-out item, so I may try that in the future.

After deciding we'd like to have something along the lines of gyros we found this great little place. They are amid construction and chaos outside but that didn't stop us from finding our way in, we were hungry. We were welcomed right away and got our drink orders. We chose hummus which was served quickly and was oh so good. Super fresh, drizzled with olive oil and served with warm pita bread- which was refilled promptly when we got low at no extra cost. We both ordered gyro bowls, we never order the same thing but it just sounded good to each of us. The plates came and everything that was supposed to be hot was hot, what was supposed to be cold was cold and every bite delicious. I wast expecting anything special of the fries, I mean it's a Mediterranean place, so I felt like they were just kind of a side to the dish. They were amazing, the seasoning just right ... yum! The portions were plentiful and we took leftovers home. We don't often get dessert but the baklava was calling so we got one to share and the staff brought us a little sample of another dessert they were considering for the menu Something along the lines of a coconut macaroon that was super buttery and sweet. My husband got the Turkish coffee to go with dessert and if you've never had it, it is a sweet treat in itself. We both walked out saying we want to come back next time we are in the area, or we may possibly make the trip just for the meal if we get a hankering for Mediterranean food. The staff said they would be closed for a short time for some remodeling, but that wouldn't take long. It was a few weeks ago when we were there so it may have all already happened. This is certainly a place to stop by!

I only have great things to say about Wisanggeni Pawon. Their menu is so helpful if you do not know…read moreabout Indonesian food to show pictures or explain the dish. The staff was super friendly as well and service was great. I love that they have lots of small plates so you can try a little of everything. We ordered: Batagor (chicken and shrimp dumplings) Bala - Bala (vegetable fritters) Satay appetizer (chicken with peanut sauce) Crab Rangoon Martabak Telor (beef omelette) Bakmi Jawa (noodle stir fry with shrimp) Beef Rendang (simmered beef and sides) Iced Palm sugar latte Lychee Iced Tea And a side of noodles for our 2 year The sauces that came with these dishes were also great. You can even shop from their small store to bring Indonesian groceries home. We went on a Saturday night and it was pretty full. We found a spot in the small parking lot, but they have signs that there is additional parking by the church if you go and need to find a spot. Since we clearly over ordered we had a lot to take home and it was great as leftovers the next day still. Can't wait to go back!

I don't have a benchmark, since this is my single Indonesian food experience. I ordered the bala-bala and beef rendang. The bala-bala were packed with recognizable veggies and had a light crispy texture. Not greasy or oily at all. My main course came with rice, a jackfruit curry and kale. A green chili sauce, more like a relish is served on the side. It is very spicy. The beef was well spiced, fork tender and just dreamy. I was also surprised by the jackfruit curry-something I've never had but liked with the spiciness of the beef-I did use a lot of the green chili sauce. The place is small and very casual and serves coffee drinks but doesn't have a liquor license. You can carry in from the pub next door, though. The parking lot is very small but I think you can park in the adjoining lot by the pub. I went at an odd time and was the only customer other than a couple of drunk women trying to get coffee. There's also a small shop where you can buy Indonesian spices, mixes and coffee. I regret not buying the rendang mix! I'm definitely going back to try some of the other dishes, ideally with friends to share appetizers-I want that lumpia-and I'll be sure to grab a package of rendang spice on my way out.
