Rain has a way of making you hungrier for the right kind of food. We walked into Georgia Comfort…read moreKitchen off I-95 on one of those gray, damp Georgia afternoons, and from the first bowl of gumbo, the weather outside stopped mattering entirely. We ordered off the menu rather than the buffet -- though both were available and the buffet looked well-stocked and genuinely tempting. My husband had the Shrimp & Grits: Georgia shrimp over stone-ground grits with andouille sausage, peppers, onions, bacon, and a sherry cream sauce. Rumor had it that was the move, and the rumor was right. The grits alone were the kind you don't stop talking about -- velvety, deeply seasoned, the kind of base that makes everything sitting on top of it taste better than it already is. I went with the fried catfish, a side of mac and cheese, and a bowl of gumbo. Honest take: the catfish itself was good -- the fish was fresh and well-flavored -- but the batter had gone a little soggy, which kept it from landing where it could have. That's the kind of thing that varies by timing, not kitchen quality. The mac and cheese, though, was exactly what you want: cheesy without being gluey, hot all the way through, properly indulgent. And the gumbo -- chicken and sausage, rich and built with patience -- was the best thing on my side of the table. On a rainy afternoon in coastal Georgia, it was exactly right. Then there was the cornbread, served with peach cobbler butter. That detail alone tells you something about how this kitchen thinks. It's not an afterthought. It completed everything around it. I'm not from the South, and I won't pretend to have a lifetime of comparison points. But there's a kind of food that makes you feel like you were born into it anyway -- like your body already knew what it was tasting. That's what happened here. Good for road trippers, families, rainy days, and anyone who needs a real meal after a long stretch of highway. Four stars, with the grits alone pulling hard toward four and a half.

This phone number is the same as The Cake Mix!!…read more If I could give them a zero!!!!!!!! I would!!!!! In January I contacted The Cake Mix in Ga to place an order for my son's groom's cake - (R2D2) finally we decided at the end of February to place the ordered and I paid half on it months before his wedding. I talked to Lewis a number of times before the wedding including the day before and he assured me that all was on schedule & the cake would be there. The day of the wedding on Saturday they called me at 12, to see if it would be ok if the cake was late & I told them no, that the wedding started at 4pm & it needs to be at the location by 3pm but this company never showed up for my only sons wedding ( No Grooms Cake). My husband missed a lot of the reception because he was dealing with them on the phone. I was told & emailed from Lewis that I would have a refund within 5 days (that was a lie). I had to contact my bank after two weeks to get my refund, then we started getting ugly phone calls from Lewis, when my husband called him back on the phone he wanted to know why did we go through the bank. He was mailing us a check, well the check finally came & I returned it back to the company the day I received it, with all the lies I did trust him at this point. I did trusted Lewis before the wedding & his company to make & deliver on time the grooms cake for my sons wedding and they LET US DOWN! It was very embarrassing for our family as well as embarrassing of having an empty groom's table. DO NOT USE THE CAKE MIX Company In Rincon, Georgia! Very Unprofessional, tells customers lies, does not refund money as told & very argumentative. We have communicated with Lewis (the owner) many times and to this point I believe he's a liar & very unprofessional! This experience will be in our families memory for life no grooms cake & an empty grooms table. Lewis & his company gave me NO TIME to find another cake. How does this man and his company sleep at night ripping off customers?. The Cake Mix Bakery should be Shut Down!!!!!
