There are so many new hot pot places opening up, but I always come back to the classic BP every once in a while. This location is meant to be a concept kitchen to try different dishes, but it seemed pretty similar to other BP locations to me. The biggest difference I noticed was the long wait time. This location is pretty small but I've been to similar-sized locations and have never waited this long. Luckily there are a lot of shops nearby so we just killed a ton of time shopping until we were seated. Don't wander too far because once you get the text that your table is being prepared, you have to check in within 5 minutes! I ordered the Korean Bean Paste in mild but found it very mediocre. They have a small seaweed side dish as an appetizer and you can get free refills on it. You only have the option for white/brown rice here and have to pay extra for noodles. Lastly, the water was served in paper cups which isn't a big deal but didn't really seem to fit the ambiance in my opinion. Overall the food was alright, but I probably won't return to this location specifically since the wait here is so long. Since there are a lot of BP locations in the surrounding area, I'll probably go to one of those the next time I'm craving it. There is free 90 minute parking in the structure down the street. My friend and I both had food poisoning after eating here. We ordered angus beef and the shaved ice. I had the WORST sweats and chills. I was out the whole day. Drawn to the atmosphere, with high hopes, I entered this charming venue for the first time. There's a bunch of pictures of the different menu items in the entrance, so you get a sense of what they offer before being seated. Although the restaurant was crowded (Saturday lunch), we were still seated within a minute. I ended up ordering the Angus Beef meal, which proved far beyond my expectations! The soup was rich and flavorful, with just the right amount of spice, fish broth, and notes of sweet corn. I also opted for the white rice (as opposed to brown) which came with a sprinkle of sesame seeds on top, making for a cute touch. This was my second time eating hotpot, and I have to say - this is such a fun meal to eat! I enjoyed getting to watch my food cook in front of me (requires no effort either) while discovering the different contents in the soup, such as noodles, tofu, and imitation crab. The service was prompt, efficient, and friendly. My dish was out very quickly, as well as the rice, and the staff was very attentive in refilling my water as well as returning to put out the flame. For any other indecisive Asian food connoisseurs out there, I'd say this is a great choice since the menu items are quite limited - if you're here for hotpot, there's really only a few options, so you should be able to make up your mind pretty quickly! Monday night was a dinner date with my girlfriend. This is a Boiling Point Concept location meaning they use organic ingredients and the offerings are different. They have the Yelp system where you can virtually wait in line by inputting your phone and they will text you when a table opens up and is ready for seating. You can go next door for drinks, across the way for coffee, or do some very quick shopping nearby. AMBIANCE: This location isn't as big as other BP and the waiting area is congested but there are seats outside and is clean. FOOD: Their menu has expanded since I've been here and it's been a while to this specific location. I got the Tonkatsu Miso Hot Soup at a mild level spicy with a side of brown rice. A note with this location is they only offer white rice or brown rice. If you want noodles, you'll have to order it as a side. The order is a good size and has lots of ingredients in there; Tonkatsu, 2 shrimps, tofu, enoki, corn fish, fungi, corn, and cabbage and udon. PRICE: Due to the fact that this is a Concept location and they use organic ingredients so the prices are a little higher. Do you love Taiwanese hot pot, but would rather pay a premium for a slightly cleaner experience with better service? If so, the Boiling Point Concept Store in Pasadena is right for you. With the exception of a few items that I never order, the BP concept store is just the same food as any other BP location, at a slightly higher price. You do get a complimentary appetizer of seaweed, but is it an adequate trade off for a higher price, lack of free tea at lunch, and inability to pick between rice or vermicelli noodles (you are automatically given rice)? Probably not. This BP also has the advantage of serving specialty drinks from the neighboring Jin Tea Shop, but I found the tea overpriced and not much better than the tea that they have in all the regular BP stores. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love Boiling Point, and highly recommend my favorite soup (beef - mild), but when there's a normal BP just a few miles south in San Gabriel, if I had the choice I'd rather go there. I've had Boiling Point at other locations numerous times and I love it! But I am not a fan of Boiling Point Concept. I only came here because I was craving BP and was in the Pasadena area, but from now on I'll just stick to the regular BP stores. 1) The prices of lunch and dinner of the hotpots are more expensive than the standard Boiling Point's elsewhere. By at least several $. 2) No free black/green tea at lunch, even though it costs more!! 3) They don't allow you to substitute your rice with vermicelli. I love vermicelli so I was really sad about this! So in summary: you pay more, no free drink, and no vermicelli substitutions. There's absolutely no reason to come back to the Concept store because I can get all these things at a CHEAPER price at other BPs. The food tasted exactly the same too. read more

Broth was very fishy, even though it's "beef based" it is pretty fishy! The veggies and noodles and meat are a bit un even. You can not add anything really to the meal already. You can only remove. It would be nice if we can add more mushrooms or extra veggies but it's just set there. As well as the un even amount. People usually like more noodles instead of odd sides :/ the imitation crab took up the most space on the bowl then the actual meat! When it comes to the flavor there isn't really much diffidence. We have tried 2 flavors and both tasted the same just one was spicy and one wasn't. But they where both fishy. And leave a odd after taste in your mouth after a while of chewing different things in the broth. Service was pretty slow. We understand that there seems to be a little bit of waitresses vs. Customers. There was a rush of customers and the waitresses are doing good handling the bunch! Compared to other branches, they did not seem to use particularly better ingredients and it tasted the same. When I chewed mushrooms, it smelled like chemicals. There were 3 sauce containers on the table, and they were all messy and dirty. One of them was almost empty. Workers were not attentive. I should have turned my head and found waitresses hard when I needed refill of soup or napkins. Whenever I needed I have to find out them myself. There were many employees, but they did not asked what we needed. Only one waitress asked us if there was something that we need but it was when we finished dining. It was hard to put up with some Asian employees who behaved like civil servants. I ordered the beef hotpot that I've ordered at other locations for years. I was disappointed by the few pieces of beef in the pot. While this location prides itself in using quality beef, cutting back on the portion was unfortunate. I also wished that this location offered free green or black tea during lunch but since it's attached to Jin's tea shop, this spot doesn't. To compensate, they provide a free small dish of seaweed for every two guests. Overall I wouldn't come back to this location for boiling point but may go back to the San Gabriel location again. I love this place. It's hot pot concept is so simple yet fantastic. It's basically hot pot with your choice of different flavors and meat/veggie options. My personal favorite is the seafood or Angus beef. My cousin loves the lamb. I also get the noodles to add in. You choose your spiciness level; I always go for mild. You make your own sauce concoction to dip your meat, they'll show you how, if you don't know just ask! You also have to get the green tea. During lunch time it's free! Boiling Point is one of my favorite restaurants so I will always be a loyal customer! The Pasadena branch is fairly small, inconspicuously located next to Jin Tea Shop. I always order the Angus Beef with medium spicy level (I think it's the safest option that almost everyone would enjoy). If it's your first time ordering, keep in mind that even the mild level can be pretty spicy! One thing I love about BP is that it's a GOOD size that will definitely fill you up. They offer extra broth for free if you're running low on soup! Also, since your soup is on a hot plate, it will always stay piping hot (and you can request to turn off the fire whenever). I'm not sure what makes Boiling Point "Concept" unique to other BP locations because it's pretty much the same menu and quality that you would get at any branch. The only con of this location is that each hotpot order is $5-6 more expensive compared to any other BP. Nevertheless, the proximity of this location keeps me coming to it. read more

But If you go home and eat it right away, it is really good still This is my first time ordering the Angus Beef and Tonkotsu Miso (no spice) and it was delicious. It comes with udon which is already perfect, has thin sliced pork, cracked egg, Napa cabbage, tofu, shrimp, bamboo, ginger, and so much more. It's such a complete meal. The hotpot I ordered came with mushroom, crab, pork slices and cabbage. It was a great mix And combination. I did not finish it And got the rest to go. Every encounter with her has not been enjoyable and makes me want to avoid coming in the evenings so we don't have to deal with her. The way she talks to customers and her co workers comes off rude and bitchy. Corporate needs to train her on some customer service. First encounter with this lady, I came in to a half busy restaurant and she still insisted I put my name on the list. Seeing that there were a few open tables she asked us to wait outside. Finally calling my number she tells me where I can sit. I politely asked if we could sit in a corner by the window where it's not as cramped. Came to the Old Town Pasadena Boiling Point late on a Sunday night. A huge plus coming at this weird time was that there was street parking and there were barely any cars around so that was awesome. Usually I park in the structure so that was a bonus not having to do that and not having to pay the flat fee. It's been a while since I've been to the other BP locations but all the hot pots here are the same price, I remember at the SG location they had different tiers where certain pots were less than others but I'm not entirely sure under what circumstance that happened. Here at Pasadena it's all the same price and the sizes are the same too. I like how they had the rack of sauces where you can spice up your hot pot. I went with the Japanese Miso this time and it needed more kick to it for sure. They don't have their own in house tea drinks here but they do get teas from a tea place next door so it won't be the same as the other BP locations if that's what you're expecting. The staff here was really attentive and they were coming over to make sure we had enough water and if we needed anything else. The restaurant itself is smaller than some of the other locations, and you might be sharing the large table in the middle of the restaurant with others. Not sure what makes this location more expensive? Tastes the same, minus the purple rice. There were so many options, it was hard to decide! I ended up with the Thai flavored one... The broth was okay, wished it was more sour like real tom yum. It was a bit too sweet. I also got spicy and it wasn't that spicy so we ended up drenching our soup with chili oil and chili paste. My friend said it's normally spicy. Maybe different chef. They do have the option to put cheese (cheddar or mozzarella) in your soup which is divine. The meats are tastier, and ultimately the quality is better, but you will pay for the price along with possibly a tweak in the flavors of the hot pots your accustomed to. I've been there twice already. I ordered the Taiwanese flaming spicy first, and it's very good but ridiculously spicy. The house special is delicious but I highly recommend getting the House Special upgrade, especially since you'll be missing the stinky. The service here, for now, is the best of all the BPs I have been to. Perhaps cause it's brand spankin' new but enjoy it while it lasts!! There is also a separate boba shop. So really it is a very new and distinguished BP. You get a $1 off if you decide to get your tea/milk tea at BP. For two it was about $50 so be prepared to receive a higher bill! read more

I'd much rather go to a regular Boiling Point than this one with the "innovative" menu items. The prices are obscene. Lunch is $13.99 and dinner is $14.99 compared to a lunch of $9.99 elsewhere. They don't include a free tea as they do at other branches and because it's in Pasadena, they did away with stinky tofu and only one of their pots has intestines. I got the pomelo flavor pot and I did like the citrusy broth. The pot had everything - pork, tofu, mushrooms, napa cabbage, shrimp, octopus.... The organic veggie was a total rip off. They charge the same price for a vegetable pot as they do the meat pots. I'm pretty upset at this place right now. The only thing actually good are the dipping sauces. read more

I always love hot pot and was so looking forward to visiting here, and it pains me to give this a two stars :-/ We came here on a Sunday morning at 11am when they first open so there won't be a long wait and it's a good decision since it got really busy really quick. I got the Taiwanese hot pot and hubby got the angus beef pot. Food came out real quick and it's all cook so we just let it boiled a bit before we dig in. The Taiwanese spicy pot is really oily and spicy, the staff offered to add in regular broth to tone it down. The soup and ingredients are alright, not the best and not the worst neither. Service was descent as well. So, why did I give it a 1 start instead of a 3 or 4??? Me and hubby both got food poisoning later that night and continued to the next day and half that's why... :-/ I was going to give it a 2 because it doesn't taste bad and the service was ok... but... I don't think a place gave us food poisoning should have more than one since it might mislead people to go there.
