Went here on 4th of July weekend with my friend after hitting up the Westfield Santa Anita. Yeah, instead of going for Din Tai Fung, we decided to settle for a place with less wait. Boiling Point isn't really on a major street, that is, I don't think it is. Turning off Huntington onto First, it looked like a bunch of random stores that are on the side (similar to Covina). Parking is also street parking as well. The wait was about 25 minutes here, and we waited outside til they called our name. Going inside, it was more of a darker ambience inside :D We had already known what we were going to order, so we quickly ordered. Remember that they have a free green/black tea with lunch. Remember to choose rice or vermicelli. Also figure out the spice level (none, mild, medium, spicy, flaming). I got myself the Korean bean paste like I usually do. It came a little bit longer than it usually does at other BPs, but once I got it, Raymond was happy. Food ;D They have udon and ramen noodles in here, so if you get vermicelli you get three types of noodles haha. Fully, Korean Bean Paste has: Soybean Sprouts, Nira, Green Zucchini, Kimchi, Pork Belly, Fish Tofu, Kamaboko, Tempura, Rice Cake, Enoki Mushroom,Fish Fillet, Wok Noodle, Lobster Fish Ball, Crown Daisy, Seaweed, Korean Paste. Came in today and had one of the worst experiences possible. We were seated quickly since there was no wait. We noticed that our table wasn't clean so we asked if they could wipe it for us. They said they already did wipe it even though there was still food on it. Ok that's fine, no big deal. We waited to get our orders taken. Little did we know we would have to wait more than 15 minutes to place an order while the people who came in after us had their orders taken right away. If you are not Taiwanese, and you're not looking for soup, this is not the place for you. It seemed like all the restaurants we went to were closed on this day so we just happened to see this place and pop in as we were running out of time. Neither of us wanted soup, so we ordered shrimp with steamed rice and corn cakes. The shrimp was just steamed so no flavor whatsoever. They were awful. The steamed rice was fine esp with a lot of the garlic soy sauce added to it. The corn cakes were just corn butts, again with no flavor. Why call it a cake? It was just corn. The most flavorable thing about our meal were the drinks! To add insult to injury, the staff had the nerve to ask us for ID as we were paying with a credit card. Who does that anymore? I use to work close-by this location and would frequent Boiling Point. By frequent I mean I was deemed 'Duchess' by yelp. I'd visit a few times a week. What I enjoy is that the soup comes out with a fire underneath it and the addictive garlic soy sauce. They had me at the garlic soy sauce. There's all this hype about Boiling Point, though if you get down to the nitty gritty, Boiling Point isn't anything special. Small mom and pop places use better ingredients and have more aromatic sauces. What has always bothered me about Boiling Point is the AWFUL AWFUL customer service and cooks. The waiters and waitresses are very slow and inattentive. It's a challenge trying to catch their attention as they walk back and forth. After years of being a loyal patron of Boiling Point and being disappointed time after time it drove me to write this review. (I don't like giving negative reviews). Whether it's ordering take out and the lid isn't sealed and the soup is spilled in the bag, finding clear plastic in the soup, bad service, attitude while ordering over the phone and being denied when asked to speak to manager... Recently, I ordered 2 non-spicy lamb hotpot soups and 1 house special soup. Part of the hotpot experience is drinking the hot soup with the aromas of the different ingredients. The 2 non-spicy lamb hotpot soups came out more red and spicy than the mild spicy house special soup. My father and I weren't able to enjoy drinking the soup. Secondly, I reached my chopsticks in and out came a piece of coated paper that's lost it's sheen, which means the chemicals have melted in the broth... Please see photo. From what I understand each portion is pre-packed from their warehouse and shipped to each store. I almost put the paper in my mouth thinking it was cabbage or tofu skin but I saw the zig zag trim of the paper. About 3 inches long and 2 inches wide piece of paper thats dried out.. Needless to say, Boiling Point needs a corporate intervention on cleanliness, customer service, and attentiveness to cooking. Waited for about 20 minutes before being seated by our host. Usually a wait since it's cheaper for lunch than dinner pricing. I came here during lunch to try their new hot soup that was launched today! I tried Tonkotsu Miso - broth was light and yummy. Apparently this soup will replaced their Japanese miso soup. Overall, I thought it was good and worth trying. When I come to Boiling Point, I always stick to the same order which is Thai Fusion hot pot soup so it was nice trying something new. Anticipate for the wait if you're coming here in the afternoon. It can get VERY crowded. There's an online waiting system near the entrance of the door. Once you punch in your party number, they'll give you a number in line. Out of all the hot pots, my favorite has to be Lamb! The meat is so tender, and it has such a unique flavor to it. The waiters/waitresses are very attentive of their customers. So, if you need anything, be sure to let them know. The hot pots come ready-made, and they average between ~$11-$14. Come in for their lunch specials, which are from 11am-3pm. Differences between lunch and dinner? Lunch is ~$1 cheaper, AND it includes a drink, either black or green tea. I don't know why this place has such bad reviews! Boiling point at every location I've been to (Arcadia, San Gabriel, Rowland Heights and Irvine) have all tastes the same. I usually get their beef or lamb with noodles. Their portions are mostly veggies so this place isn't the best for meat lovers but I still think it's good! The flavor is unique and different from traditional hot pot. Their garlic soy sauce is addicting! If your soup evaporates or you finish a lot of it, they'll give you more soup for free! At the end of the meal they give you this lemon jelly that is refreshing! Come during lunch and they'll give you free black or green tea :) read more

As with all Boiling Points go (in SoCal), this place is a solid 4 star for food. Clean location with professional employees, I've been lucky enough to come on weekdays when the line is NOT cray cray (I see in other reviews that it gets pretty bad). Only issue is probably parking, though on a weekday, it's never really that bad or hectic. I'm not sure how it is on weekends, so try to come on off hours? In terms of food, it's pretty solid--I do like the pomelo one, though I think the flavor is actually yuzu. The regular portion is good if you have a small to average appetite, but for piggies like me, I could probably polish off two bowls (though the calories and sodium would kill me). Boiling Point almost makes me wish it were Winter again. Almost. Grey skies and cold weather are perfect for eating a bowl of raging hot soup but I'm going to guess that Boiling Point does good business any season of the year because their hot pots are pretty delicious. We arrived early on a Friday night, just before the dinner time crush and snagged a four-top for the three of us. Unfortunately, the two-tops are quite cramped and very near adjoining tables so I'm not looking forward to returning with a smaller part. Unlike other shabu shabu or huo guo restaurants, the food here is individually portioned. Each pot of soup comes on a steady, square wooden base with a sterno to keep the soup boiling. I gravitated towards the House Special because I wanted the stinky tofu. There were four generous triangles of the stinky tofu as well as slices of beef, enoki mushrooms, napa cabbage, blood cake, pork intestine, veggie stems, tomato slice, fish balls, and a quail egg floating in a shacha base. I selected the medium spice level and it was perfect for me - just enough to make my nose run and body temperature rise. I love the ingrediants in the House Special Pot, especially the quail egg, pork intestine, which was so soft and tender, and the the tofu. I could have done without the blood cake but other than that there was a very good balance of protein and vegetables. The soup base is not for everyone - especially if you don't like shacha. The taste is very powerful, both spicy and salty but it goes well with everything else. The others both ordered Seafood and Tofu, wanting one of the lighter options. The contrast between their pots and mine was very clear. It was a much purer and lighter brother without the strong taste of the shacha. There was an abundance of seafood - squid rings, a baby octopus, shrimps, napa cabbage, vermicelli, tofu, clams. They had to do more work though to peel shrimp and dig around for the seafood but I think they enjoyed them as well. Do yourself a favor and keep your dipping sauce containers filled with the house-made sauces at the bar. My favorite was the garlic infused chili paste, sweet, garlicky, and spicy for the stinky tofu. A little bit of the garlic soy sauce loosened the mixture and added even more garlic. Some of the blander items from the pot, like the intestine and seafood were incredibly addictive with the sauces. Although I expected each of us to take home leftovers, the pots are the right size for one person. We all cleaned off our pots right to the end. You could keep the food going a bit longer if you ask the waitstaff to pour in more broth, but they were too busy on the night. Halfway through our meal, a waitress gave us a little cup of basil seeds in a citrus juice/soda for dessert. It was actually pretty necessary, a cooling and sweet component to cool you down, which explains the other half of Boiling Point's menu. There is a huge selection of sweet drinks like boba and slushies and shaved iced desserts. It was obvious why those would be popular to drink alongside a hot pot of food and afterwards to cool you down. The wait was pretty enormous by the time we finished our meal. Came here on a Sunday morning 15 minutes before they opened, and was 6th in line with a party of 5. We were promptly seated and our order was taken relatively quickly. We didn't get our food until almost 45 minutes later, and we were the last table in the first seating to get our food. Some people that sat down right before us were almost done eating by the time we got our food. Anyway, get here earlier or come with a smaller party size. On to the food. I got the beef soup which was delicious. I've tried the curry, miso, house, and seafood soups before and they were all equally good. It just depends on what you're in the mood for. I personally prefer Shabu Shabu, where you actually cook the food in the broth as you want to. This type of hot pot is pre-cooked already, but it is much more flavorful. You can also ask for more clear broth to add to your pot. I love the sauces that they provide here, which they leave on the table for you to use as much as you please. I would probably prefer to cook my own meat (beef was on the overcooked side). Hot sauce/condiment bar is on one corner of their restaurant, it's a tad messy and actually inconvenient because of the amount of foot traffic there. Very disappointed. My wife went out with her friend to treat themselves to some delicious hotpot. When she got home she looked tired so she went to sleep. The next day she looked worse, she said she couldn't sleep because her stomach hurt the whole night, I know it was the hotpot because I felt fine after eating our homemade food that we both ate the day before. She had food poisoning for 2 days and currently still feeling ill at the time of this writing. I prefer this location compared to the rest in SGV. It's ridiculous how busy all the locations are. There is usually an hour wait. I prefer The Arcadia location better because it's clean, less crowded, and the staff is efficient. I sit, take my orders, and food is ready in 15 mins. Not bad huh? The staff is quick and friendly. I ordered the Taiwanese hot pot in mild for $11.99. My absolute fav is the stinky tofu!! Yum!! The pot also has slicked pork, quail egg, pork blood cake, napa cabbage, fish cake, intestine, and tomato. Served with a chice of vermicelli or rice. It's a lot of food and I usually had to go afterwards. They also serve boba drinks here. My fb ordered the green tea with honey and it was good. It was refreshing with a hot meal. After seeing pictures of the famous boiling pot litter my Facebook and Instragram newsfeed throughout the years, I finally got the chance the try Boiling Point when I came on a double date here this past week. While this place has been known to be quite popular, the restaurant itself is pretty small , which can often account for the lengthy wait. My friends came first to grab a table and they ended up waiting for around half an hour. My boyfriend and I arrived a little while afterwards but our food came out very promptly after ordering. Since I'm really not a big fan of stinky tofu, I made sure to stay away from The House Special Hot Pot, which is chock full of Taiwanese goodies that the more ambitious eater may be used to eating. For noobs like myself, the Beef Hot Pot, mild spicy, was perfectly fine for me. They bring the a small pot to you, which is full of the usual items found in hot pot, such as beef, napa cabbage, tomato, enoki mushrooms, fish cake, bean curd, tofu, vermicelli, etc. The fire lit underneath your pot burns through most of time until it eventually grows smaller and smaller, and then it eventually dies out. The waiters will come by occasionally to refill your pot with soup or upon request. There aren't that many soup bases or meats to choose from, which is why I prefer Jazz Cat. And the sauces, though tasty, are limited to the three standard sauces found on the table. However, the cool thing about Boiling Point is the fact that all of your food is already cooked when it arrives and it's not nearly as much work as Jazz Cat. When you're feeling lazy, this would definitely be and advantage since you just choose what you like and pluck it from the pot instead of scrambling to time your food and get all of it cooked before your soup base becomes icky. Would I return? Nah. While the concept of this place is cool and reminiscent of hot pot restaurants found in Taiwan, I wasn't too impressed with the substandard fare. Who doesn't love a personal hot pot?! I love this concept and have been to a few of the Boiling Point locations in LA. Most of the time this place is packed and you have to put your name on a wait list outside - I don't think they take reservations. I wouldn't recommend coming here if you're on a time limit since you never know how long the wait will be. The prices are affordable, they take credit cards, and the food is always piping hot (literally). They also have lunch specials that include a green or black tea - pretty good deal. I usually order the Korean style or Beef hotpot. I'm not a fan of stinky tofu but my friends love the Taiwanese style hotpot if you've got the taste for that. Quick tip: they ask if you want a side of rice or noodles with your hotpot - I usually get rice since most of them already have noodles in them. The service is meh. It's gotten better since the first time I came here but most of the employees don't speak English. As long as you don't expect wonderful customer service, you won't be disappointed. So my cousin and a close friend of mine have been asking me to try Boiling Point with them. So I finally came with my close friend last Saturday for lunch. There was maybe a 15 to 20 minute wait which wasn't bad. I've been skeptical trying another hot pot joint due to a bad experience in Garden Grove. Since then, I've never tried any Chinese hot pot again and just stuck with experimenting Japanese Shabu Shabu joints. Boiling Point is Taiwanese hot pot so I decided to give it a try. I got the beef combo (#4 i think??), the Lady came out with my hot pot and everything was already in the pot boiling with all the vegetables, noodles and the beef. Already, it was a different experience. i tried the broth and it was okay...I still prefer the broth at Miyabi Shabu Shabu,. They had 3 different sauces on the table, I mixed all three to dip my beef and it was good, but doesn't beat the ponzu sauce from shabu shabu joints.Totally wished they had the ponzu sauce :( I saw the ice cube pictures on yelp and made me curious what they were. After having our lunch, my friend & I decided to try the strawberry and sesame flavor. Boy, were the ice cubes hard as ef! I suggest you don't try the sesame, it was gross IMO. Actually, don't bother ordering the ice cubes, they are 69 cents each and they are small. It's like eating regular ice cream just in cubes. You are better off getting their macaron ice cream for about $2.50 (I think). Their black tea was yummy, then again I love pretty much all tea, ha! My friend said they give free tapioca for dessert, but we never got it :( Overall experience, I'd probably come back to the Boiling Point in Irvine since it's the closest one in my area. This is cheaper than Shabu Shabu especially for lunch so I'm definately going back. It's $10.99 for lunch with free green or black tea and $11.99 for dinner without the free drink. I'm not a fan at all of traditional hot pot. Something about the idea of doing your own cooking and having to wait to eat doesn't really entice me. But Boiling Point delivers with a single stove for each order, and everything pretty much cooked. Come early and wait a decent amount. Come later and wait a ridiculous amount. Street parking is abundant. This restaurant isn't that big but they make use of every inch of space by putting the tables way close to one another. The lady next to us was watching us eat... awk. The lamb hot soup & beef hot soup are solid choices, and both come with a hefty amount of food (meat, raw egg, cabbage, pickled veggies, etc). The lamb had a really gamey taste, which I love. They also gave us complimentary/delicious chili oil seaweed while we were waiting for our orders. It's a bit pricey at about $20/pp if you get a drink too (Hokkaido was bomb), but you do get a lot of food and the service was good, so it kind of justifies it. Another one of your run-of-the-mill boiling points. I feel like these days you can find one of these at the end of every corner. THat being said, this place gets the job done. The service is no worse than any other BP, and because it's a smaller store, I feel like there's less of a chance of the staff ignoring you. The wait times are usually 10-30 minutes from what I've seen, although if you do come outside of peak hours, I think it will be relatively easy to find a seat. The decor is pretty nice and the music fits the theme, so there's no complaints there. Parking is probably the only real issue I have with this place. It shares the street with a few other businesses, so although there are some street side parking spots, I've been having a really hard time finding consistent parking and usually just end up going around the corner to park. read more

I picked up my order and got home. After trying it I realized they gave me the spiciest option (marked on the lid) and literally none of my kids can eat it. I ordered the mild. I give them a call to let them know that they gave me the wrong order and the male worker told me to come pick up a new one. After my dad arrives at the restaurant (driving back 30 mins) I call and they tell me that they need the old one, even though we had already touched it and ate from it but I'm furious because the guy on the phone never told me to bring the old one back and my dad was already there. Now I'm on the phone with them, they keep passing my phonecall to every staff to deal with, all laughing and speaking rude about this situation in cantonese (which I fully understand) saying they're not going to make the new one, just hang up on me. They hang up and they refused to pick up my call for 10 mins. When they finally do, another guy picks up acting clueless and when I said I'm calling about my wrong order he laughed and said "oh.. can you call back tomorrow?" No. I will not call back tomorrow about my wrong order today. Rude immature young staff who take no responsibility in fixing the issue and wasted my dad's time, my $70 order, and a wasted meal. To this day, I don't understand what all the hype is about with BP. Don't get me wrong, BP isn't bad. The food is decent, but I totally don't think its worth the super long wait. Food here is average. You aren't getting anything special. Their flavors are well balanced, but not all that great. The meat can be hit or miss and so can the broth. You might get super fatty cuts of beef or super lean cuts. The soup is really salty or not salty at all. I usually go with their Beef Special extra spicy and its got a good spice level for me. I really like the sauces that they give you to mix. They don't skimp on sauces like Jazz Cat does. They give pretty decent portion sizes for what they charge and the free tea with every lunch is a welcomed plus. Service is okay. We had to ask for extra utensils quite a few times. Came in for lunch with the co workers. Got there around 12 and it was busy . Waited about 40 minutes to be seated. Service was a bit slow and I got the beef hot pot with extra beef . Overall the food was good Just don't think it is worth the wait We were a party of 5 and should've been next on the airing list. But of course all the people that were a party of two kept getting seated ... when in my opinion they should've kept those seats empty until the next party left to seat us . Best get here early! I once waited for over an hour and a half! And as much as I LOVE LOVE LOVE this place, it's never worth it to wait that long! Ever since one of my favorite gals Joyce introduced me to the franchise of Boiling Point, I have never looked back. For me, it's always that stinky tofu (house special) hot pot. It oozes that stenchy flavor that makes me oh_so excited. My first visit to BP was at the Monterey Park location, but since then, I have been to the Arcadia and the Hacienda Heights one. To be fair, every location is guaranteed the same extremely satisfying taste, but both the Arcadia and HH locales serve a better environment. HH has higher ceilings, can accommodate more people (so the wait is less strenuous), and the service is many times better than both the MP and Arcadia spots. My value meal? The House Special Stinky Tofu, very spicy ($9.99), a side of ramen ($1.00), and some Hokkaido Milk Tea (~$4.00). I leave a very happy girl each time... and literally ready to go back right away the next day. A very rare feeling. I don't know what it is... It can't be the service, and despite the long line. I've been to this location twice. Plus side - Taste of broth is good, order spice level mild to hot and portion of soup are decent, mix of veggies and meat, tofu, depending which bowl ordered. So far Thai fusion is my fave. Bowl comes with rice noodle or white rice. Price per bowl is good. Negative- service could be much better.
