i ordered the special last night, crab cakes, and my husband ordered fried oysters. We were the only people in the restaurant last night, and the rock music was so loud we didn't even try to talk. Halfway through our meal, some kind of bell or alarm went off and continued for so long that I went to the kitchen to ask them to turn it off. They couldn't even hear it in the kitchen. The crab cakes were frozen preformed and not made with real crabmeat. My husband said the oysters were good, though. I will give a shout out to the cashier, who was cheerful and friendly. read more

I had the best plate of seafood. I got the fried soft shell crabs. They were outstandin.

We picked this place for the seafood and bbq offerings, and it was very convenient to where we were staying in Swansboro. The place is small, but since we arrived an hour before closing time it wasn't too busy. They staff were very friendly, and the food was fresh and hot. You order and pay at the counter, then seat yourself. Our group had fried shrimp, flounder, chicken and okra, and the only things that weren't fried were the other sides - Mac n cheese, cucumbers, greens, etc. the fish was very tasty, and the bbq was typical Carolina pulled pork. We averaged about $20/person for dinner and a drink after tax, and left with our bellies very full. read more

I've past here many times and always said I'd have to stop one day.. well today was the day!! I really wanted some fried shrimp and that's what I got! So it's a little different than I'm used to.. most of lunch crowd had left so it was only like 3 customers. The young lady behind counter was cleaning tables.. she explained you order and pick up at the counter she will call my name when it's ready.. cool! Also you pay when you order .. cash and card are accepted but there's a discount for using cash! I'll take it! I ordered shrimp plate large came with hush puppies and 2 sides... I got cabbage and potato salad.. the potato salad was a lot for me.. I made sure I concentrated on the main dish!! It really good and the young lady was very nice and helpful. The restaurant is very casual and very cute.. it looked freshly painted nice and brite blue.. there's all kinds pictures on wall.. they even have a few beer selections.. very laid back no rush and good food.. Did not want to order online so that I could pay cash but had to after calling over 6 times within an hour and had to put order on a credit card. Absolute wowza! Not much to look at but the food is amazing, I got the shrimp plate and the shrimp were fried to perfection. Order at the counter, pick up your food and bring it back to the table- absolutely amazing. The best hushpuppies I've had in the area! They offer different daily specials and it's a very laid back atmosphere, saw a lot of people picking up to go. If you are looking for good food in the area this is your place! My only quarrel would be keeping the tables clean, when we arrived the place was empty but all tables but two were dirty, but with one worker they may have seen a huge rush before we came in so I cannot fault them on that. read more

Have not been here for years and was craving a BBQ sandwich. Well look at that- the sign says Buy one get one BBQ sand or Shrimp plate. Perfect. The cashier was nice but not over welcoming. I got the feeling of "can you hurry up". Well I took my time because now I didn't know if I was going to order the shrimp plate of the BBQ sand. There were two people at a table eating and two waiting for an order.... the place was dead... when normally this place is full all the time. I finally decided on the BBQ sand. It comes with coleslaw so I was very happy.... but it does not come with onion. Bummer. She handed me my order but did not ask if I wanted any sauces. I guess they don't have any to go or if they do I was not directed to were the sauces are. No napkins were in the bag either. BUT what was in the bag were hush puppies. I think five per sandwich. OMG they were to die for. Crisp on the outside, soft on the inside and you know they were FRESH. I ate all of them before I got home. Bad girl. The BBQ sandwich was very good. I added my own sauce and a slice of onion. What a deal for $5.86..... (2 BBQ's) no fast food chain can beat that! First-timer here from out of town. Seeking awesome seafood--don't mind paying higher prices, but it has to be worth it. My husband got the catfish and shrimp plate while I got the shrimp and oysters plate. Our sides consisted of coleslaw, french fries, collard greens, and mashed potatoes. Hush puppies were also served with it. It all was absolutely amazing. Everything just melts in your mouth and so incredibly tender. Does not taste fried. Everything tastes fresh. Highly recommend. Our total was slightly over $50. For comparison, we ate at Clawson's restaurant in Beaufort last night and paid over $100. While the food there was great, it was overpriced and portions were small. The portions here are great. We found this place by asking a local what they recommended and they said hands-down that this place had the best seafood around. And we agree-very happy. read more

They had a BOGO on their trout and shrimp so we went with that. Both were lightly battered, with a delicate crunch to it. Fish was fresh. Hush puppies with a tad of butter were perfect! Brunswick stew is a choice side that everyone agreed was a winner. Fried okra is a good choice, too. Wish they had cornbread, tho. We were too full for dessert but next time I might leave room. Sweet little home style restaurant/diner with a laid back atmosphere. We got the fried flounder with the coleslaw, crab cakes with hush puppies and a plate of broiled shrimp and more hush puppies! We were visiting on vacation and just got in from a long drive and picked this up on the way in. It was such a nice treat for our first night on vacation at the beach. Even though we live at the beach, we miss the outer banks and this place has all the charm we missed since moving further south. Imagine Calabash seafood but fresher and better. This is a very small restaurant. There was one very pleasant waitress that took good care of us. You have to get your own soft drinks or water. We were disappointed in our fried shrimp as it appeared to have been frozen, not fresh. The hush puppies were like the ones you buy at the grocery store. If you like fried food and southern eats, this is the place to go! We make it a point to eat here whenever we're in town, which means a 30 minute drive one way. The food is always amazing, fresh caught and great service. We had the barbecue (pulled pork), fried clam strips, flounder and shrimp, with sides of fries, fried okra, hush puppies, and potato salad. Everything came out as expected and with ample portions. Their barbecue sauce (at the table is NC style) and tasted great on the pork. Even my picky 8-yr old liked it on his sandwich. Fries were shoestring and just crispy enough. Fried okra was delicious and tasted healthy (if that's possible with fried food). The potato salad is creamy and made with relish, which is not my favorite, but it was still good. Homemade through and through. The place is no frills inside, but clean and staff are friendly and helpful. As we ate our dinner, at least three folks came in and the staff knew them by name. We decided to find somewhere to get seafood on our way home from the aquarium and found this after reading reviews and looking at the menu. We're glad we did! They had a special 2 for one on the shrimp and flounder plate with 2 sides. We had the mac n cheese, mashed potatoes with gravy, fried okra, and slaw plus hush puppies. Huge portions and the best hush puppies I've ever had. We even ordered a dozen to take home. (They didn't make it) On top of it being delicious and a great price, the service was amazing. Hush puppies come with everything and are better than I've had anywhere from Kinston East. Oysters, shrimp and fried chicken delicious and fried perfectly. Sides were yummy- especially brunswick stew and collards and green beans. Free drink refills. Beer available. Food comes out fast and accurate. Staff is so pleasant. Pork rinds a nice bonus! We had 4 teenagers and 3 adults and everyone left happy and full. Prices were decent and worth it. Desserts looked great but we didn't try them after all the food. Don't miss this place! read more

I almost hesitate to recommend this place, because sometimes great stuff is better kept secret, but they deserve the praise. We'd been looking for a place to get Seafood. Oddly, a lot of places were closed despite it being high season and, predictably, those that were open were absolutely mobbed. We're talking 2 hour wait times. So we drove over to Swan to see what was what--same thing. Overspilling parking lots, long lines. We decided to go out further, and ultimately Stumbled on Bogue House--a little place that's easy enough to miss, and looks like a whole lot of nothing, but at this point.... It was a risk well-worth taking. Inside, we found a simple place with vinyl floors and some cheesy coastal-theme decorations, and one table open so there was no waiting. The food came up fast--about 7 minutes--and arrived on the table steaming hot, in vast quantities, and all of it was delicious. Between the group, we tried many different items--shrimp, flounder, crab cakes, clam strips, and all of it was delicious. The crab cakes were a surprise, being several hours south of Chesapeake Bay. The shrimp was fresh and delicious--its never the same after freezing--and made my entire vacation worthwhile. No exaggeration. I'm already plotting next year's return. All of that said, this isn't a trendy place with sugary cocktails and a carefully curated theme--it's a roadside restaurant, with plastic chairs, wobbling chairs, and a self-serve soft drink fountain front and center. Was looking for bbq near Emerald Isle and found this place. Based on reviews (and proximity), figured we'd give it a try. I got the bbq sandwich combo with fries and my husband got the bbq/dark meat chicken plate with Mac & cheese and potato salad (both meals also came with hush puppies). We both agree that the bbq was the best part of the meal--it had a nice smokey flavor. The hush puppies were also tasty (although I found them a bit strong on the onion flavor). The chicken was juicy and not greasy, but was a little light on seasoning. Mac and cheese was gooey (my husbands words)--just how he likes them--and the potato salad was just right. Fries were fries--nothing special. Sweet tea was not overly sweet--just how I like it. Overall, a very filling meal. Was it the best I've had?
