Delicious fried chicken served at the drive-thru window. Baked beans were a pleasant surprise as well with shredded bits of chicken incorporated into the baked beans. Back to Morehead City and NC BBQ. Ordered the barbecue plate with extra hushpuppies and sister dark chicken platter on line and Door Dash-ed so not hot but okay. Hushpuppies were very sweet but soft and crunchy in the right places and Cole slaw was chopped, definitely unsweet but I liked the crunch. Lots of bbq but cut into clumps that were hard to separate. Tasted fine but not as good as I remembered. Sister's chicken was large thigh and two drumsticks. The breading was crispy but salted so much that we stopped eating. Warmed up next day and ate kind of skimpy meat in drumsticks. We will try again but take out and hope the salt was an error. And the Door Dash bill was $40 with no drinks. Pickup for sure. read more

Food was excellent but the service exceeded our every expectation. The food arrived at our table in minutes after we were seated. The cashier continued to check in us throughout the meal providing drink refills before we asked and quickly cleared the table. Totally decent fried chicken, if not super original. Shatteringly crisp skin, juicy chicken, good hushpuppies, excellent fries, very good beans and a drink the size of my first car for $2. The chicken could use a little something, something. Not sure what but a zip to make it all their own and crave-worthy. Maybe a special zingy version for those who want their chicken with a bit of pizzazz. Staff was lovely and conscientious, although most were wearing masks improperly (not covering their noses...come on people, it's not that hard). Hand sanitizer everywhere, all customers required to be masked. We ate out front at the few tables in the parking area, which were empty since most people either did take out or braved it inside. Clean, friendly staff and great food! So nice that I let the manager (and his boss) know how wonderful the experience was.

So I'll start by saying that I don't know what start the disagreement or what happened after I left but around 7:30 ish I was in the drive thru and I was shook to see the cashier who was very nice and professional was being bullied by the Manager in a white shirt ( younger white male ) and another older female coworker( red shirt). The manager had yell at the young lady while the window was open and there were other customers in the lobby which I find very unacceptable. The young lady unfortunately walked away visibly upset/ embarrassed so I couldn't get her name. I was given my food before she came back if she came back but regardless I hope that is not how you treat your employees regularly and if so please do better. I went here on the recommendation of the front desk and I swear I wanted to puke when my food arrived!!! Visiting N.C. I always have it on my agenda to have barbecue. This time I decide to try between the two big barbecue chains. My conclusion is that I enjoyed Smithfield's the most. Smithfield's has the delicious vinegar sauce I so enjoy in N.C. where the the competition only has a vinegar based barbecue sauce. I also enjoy the Brunswick Stew here as well. It had more vegetables including green beans that I didn't notice in the other and the portion size was much larger. Overall it was a great experience. The one think I did prefer with the competition was they provided sauce on the table and also took the time to wipe down each table with a sign indicating whether the table was cleaned or not where Smithfield's was cleaning tables but no indication if the table was clean or not. Finally, the banana pudding is equally good. It is the same pudding but Smithfield's sprinkles vanilla wafer crumbles on top along with the three whole ones where the competition provides whipped cream which I do prefer over the crumbles. Give them both a try and do a comparison. read more

Worth the trip from CA! Let me tell y'all, I love me some Smithfields! I was solo today, and of course over ordered...but I just have to have a bbq sando (WITH SLAW), ckn wings & pups! Kelsey & Ryan absolutely made my day. And if you're in town visiting or lucky enough to live here, check out their tailgate package!! We've eaten here a lot on our summer vacations over the past 10+ years. I was disappointed today with their barbeque which is normally good. It was quite tatseless and my husband agreed. Our kids ate hotdogs, my husband had the chicken breast and wing, potato salad and coleslaw. They said that their food was pretty good. read more

I don't understand the hype about this place. It must be a North Carolina thing. I wanted to taste a bit of everything, so I decided on the combination plate with dark meat. It came with chicken, pulled pork, cole slaw, potato salad and hush puppies. Now, I get their pulled pork is "Carolina-style", meaning it's got the vinegar taste...but no...it was not good at all. The chicken was bland. I wasn't a fan of the coleslaw or the potato salad either. The hush puppies were decent- but who can really mess up a hush puppy??? It's the second time I've given this chain a shot. (The first was in 2013.). And now I remember why I didn't give it a second shot before. I didn't even come close to finishing my food. Some of the best chicken tenders you can get. Real chicken breast that is not over battered. Banana pudding is good. Very good fast food.

I think that the chicken itself was fine. It could have been a tad more seasoned for my liking. Their hush puppies were normal - coleslaw was average. Lastly, I was not a fan of their banana pudding... this could also be because I have been spoiled with some homemade banana pudding - and nothing could compare to that. read more

Stopped by on way back from Atlantic Beach with my brother and wife. My wife got a barbecue sandwich with fries, my brother got chicken tenders plate and I got the barbecue platter. We dined in. The barbecue is good and the sauce is very tasty. Fries are shoestring style and done perfectly. The chicken tenders are huge and juicy. We also had potato salad, baked beans and hush puppies.
