I have no clue how this place is getting 4-5 star reviews. We decided to try it on our vacation because of all the great reviews. A friendly enough woman took our order and wrote everything on paper before delivering it to a man and young kid in the kitchen. We waited, and waited, and waited some more. Tables were receiving wrong orders/waiting on food. The man proceeded to blame the nice enough woman to the customers about wrong orders. Meanwhile, the kid is plating food and EATING FRIES as he plates customers food! The woman licked her fingers to open a plastic bag for a takeout order. I witnessed all of this while waiting for our order. I tried my best to withhold judgement until trying this, apparently, amazing food. We got the brisket plate. We are from the south, and we know good brisket. This was NOT it. 95% of the portion was all fat and completely inedible. The mac and cheese was decent enough and the coleslaw was mushed up lettuce drenched in some kind of mayo sauce. My husband wanted to go in and complain, but I told him not to. Felt like the man was already annoyed with his employees and we didn't want to cause trouble. We threw out the food and went across the street for some delicious pizza @ Michaelangelo's. Found this little hidden gem on a whim today on our way out of town. My kids ate so much I was scared for the long ride back to Raleigh! They never finish their meals anywhere, but they all had multiple BBQ and brisket sandwiches, which says a LOT. I've had BBQ in at least 8 states and this was by far the best of not just NC but everywhere. Best brisket I've ever had! So tender and juicy. Perfectly smoked. The pulled pork was also amazing. I normally don't like potato salad or order it and the owner was kind enough to give us a complimentary side of it and I'm so glad I tried it. I know it's considered a sin in the south but the truth is I hate coleslaw. I didn't want it on my sandwich initially, but he made sure to come over and show us how to eat his recipe and it was game changer for me. I ate the slaw on its own it was so good. Overall, great experience, amazing unpretentious BBQ, very clean joint, and really friendly owners. We will definitely be back when we visit Atlantic Beach next time! read more

Absolutely TERRIBLE - we waited outside over 20 minutes for a small brisket sandwich. Owner finally walks out and asks how we are doing - said we are waiting on a brisket sandwich and he said no one told him we ordered one. He walks back into the restaurant and tells the cook... we wait another 10 minutes.. took a few bites and there was a PUBIC HAIR in the sandwich. Immediately left and will never return.
