Before I get started I want to say that 'Jack' seems to be the gentleman in charge of service.. lol or maybe Im just not sure:) but no matter how busy they seem to be, the both times I needed to speak to him he dropped what he was doing and listen to my every word, that spoke volumes to me. As I much appreciated that. However I am going to write a second review once I pick the boat up. But as it stands I'm loving where I have left my boat to have my concerns addressed. ---------- I have now picked up my boat... I was thrilled with the price!! Was prepared to pay more, because all us boat owners know, if you can't fix it yourself you're gonna pay the price for the service. For me, this place was straight up!, attentive!, and very informative, along with super personalized once here. In short this boat shop does business in a very un-ethical way. I took my boat to them with many concerns, Mainly the boat proposing and electrical. (Note they only take cash or check, and do not take credit cards because people challenge it, which makes sense because they tell you one price and charge you thousands more.) Dana the owner walked the boat with me, seemed very knowledgeable explaining the order of repair we needed to do. ( Mechanical, Electrical, structural, then cosmetic) my boat is an older bay liner (1988), all that made sense. He quoted me $1,500.00, to do a yearly maintenance and swap out the prop and change the hub to the new square style. He said he will be in touch to give me a quote to get the Mechanical and electrical dialed in and to see if it's even a project worth doing. I get a call on speaker phone with him and his son about a week later, about how the work is coming along and they have installed a new Binnacle, gages, done wiring, and was asking for me to come down to put a deposit. Being I was confused I told them I would be down the next day so they could walk me through what was going on. (I had not given permission to do any of this work they were talking about) I met with Andy the following day, where he walked me through all the work they had done. I asked him all this work was included in the $1500.00? Long story short, He apologized acknowledging he should have called and there was a miss communication, that the boat was mechanicalyy sound, and they believed that it was good to start all the work. He was about 80% threw all the work and assured me all the mechanical work and parts were good they were waiting on the prop, and they were going to finish going threw all the electrical and if there was any further problems he would call me if they needed to do more work. The estimated total was $4,200.00. He acknowledged that I was up set that they did $2,700.00 worth of work with OUT approval, and apologized multiple times. At this point I felt it was a sincere mistake, Andy said the boat would be ready for pick up the next Monday, and he would call if any thing changed. I show up to pick up the boat, going threw it with Dana and another tech, the boat still didn't have the new prop on it, on top of that it would die when the trim was actuated (they said the new Pinical was wired in wrong) and they would need to look at it. When I went in to pay the front desk didn't have the paper work, and said it would take some time to get the paper work together. I told them I couldn't wait / come back later. That I would have to pic up the next Monday. The front desk lady emailed me the final bill and it was now $5,400.00. I called her and asked her to speak with Dana and Andy to make sure there wasn't a mistake, she said she would and get back to me. (She never did) When I showed up on Monday to pick up the boat, work was completed new prop was installed and I will say the boat ran well. The bill was the same, so I asked Dana why it was $1,200.00 dollars more than a week ago, so we went through the bill. He pointed out that things were added like a key switch and blower motors and a host of other things that were not in the second estimate of cost, and stated they tried to get it close. I explained that's not close, and that I have been very nice and understanding, but I never approved this extra work, nor did I approve the first bout of extra work. That in fact I only approved the yearly maintenance and a new prop with the new style hub. It was my hope being a business owner he would do the right thing and at the very least honor the $4,200.00. estimate since I was for a second time not notified of additional work. He refused, explaining to me "this is how its done" that additional things pop up when fixing older boats that need a lot of work, "its takes too long to call for every thing". I may be wrong, but in 18 years as an automotive mechanic, Ive never done work that wasn't approved. In my personal opinion if work is done that wasn't approved, or worked outside of the budget, the business is taking on the cost at that point. I want to be clear in this review, I am not up set with the work that was done, or the cost of the work that was done. I am up set that at no point was I called, at no point did I approve or say yes to any of the work done out side of the Maintenance, Prop and hub replacement. The sheer audacity to think it's ok, to perform over $4,000.00 worth of work with out asking, and expecting some one to be ok with it and pay that is ridiculous, and un-ethical. Beware that when you go there not only do you have to pay cash / check, you may get charged for work you never approved. It's a slimy way of doing business, I would recommend every one take their business elsewhere, to a shop that has some ethical business practice. Boat owners never take your boat here! Dana was paid $18,288.46 to repair my weather damaged pontoon and additional upgrades I had requested. I had too many issues with this process to list them all! This is a man that talks over you, lies and is afraid of women. Time promised never happened. Repairs lets just say I was called 3 different times "come pick up your boat it's all done." When I arrive the first time it is completely covered and snapped down. Hmmm! I and another one of the boat owners (woman) take the cover off, turn on the stereo nope doesn't work, nor does the trolling motor or the navigation lights. Several days later same phone call. When we arrive we notice the cleats and decals are not on and the stereo still doesn't work. But they assured us they JUST had it playing. Have to leave it again. This time Dana calls and says "boat is all done, my guys are detailing it now and I need the space." I take it home, climb up to restock lifejackets, etc. to find greasy handprints all over the console! The next morning we take it to the lake the engine starts right up but it will not go in reverse and the prop continues to turn while in neutral which ended up damaging the trailer. I call Dana immediately of course his only answer was bring it back. When we arrive Dana is nowhere to be found. He had gone and cashed our check and we were told that he left because you were mad and he didn't want to talk to you. What a chicken ----! Absolutely have never dealt with a business owner that has ZERO integrity! There are still things that he did not replace correctly nor did he put back in the full tank of gas that he emptied out of our boat, but it's not worth dealing with him. We will go elsewhere to have the issues fixed. Lastly know....not ONE time did he say he was sorry!!! His repairmen did but he DID NOT!!!! read more

I am not sure if these guys are dishonest or extremely unorganized but either way if you use them be sure to get a written estimate with all costs and work to be done clearly explained. I hired them to go to the lake to diagnose an issues with my boats generator and spoke to Dana the owner. I was told that it would be 250.00 to go to the lake to diagnose the problem, after the trip was made in was sent an invoice for over 400.00 After much aggravation they finally agreed to only bill me the quoted 250.00, and o paid, these guys will never see me again. read more

THIS PLACE IS GREAT! All summer I've been having issues on my 2015 SeaRay. I've taken it to a couple other shops, had a mobile mechanic meet me at the lake and charged, HUNDREDS of dollars to still not have a properly running boat or solid diagnosis. A few weeks ago I took my boat into Bodnar (thanks to a referral from a friend), and I had a quick answer and repair. The service techs were outstanding and I am a happy customer. I would not recommend using Bodnar boat works. The attention to detail and customer service were no where near what it should be. They worked on our fiberglass and windshield after storm damage. Dana, the owner, suggested that they were more expensive than competitors because their work was better and worth it. I don't believe they were any better than anyone else and their customer service, as based on the treatment we received from Dana, is very poor. There were issues with our boat interior and stains when we picked up the boat. The owner didn't know how they got there, but stated his employees looked over the boat thoroughly, and then suggested maybe a homeless person was sleeping in the boat while it was parked at his shop. This sounded very dishonest to us. We had other issues with missed seat tears and missed fiberglass blemishes and Dana was screaming at my wife on the phone and telling her she was being too anal retentive when she complained about the job the shop did with the repairs. He continued screaming and hung up the phone! He went so far as to say he would get his lawyers after us if we posted a complaint. Beware, you don't always get what you have paid for, this was especially true for us at Bodnar in relation to customer service, attention to detail, and workmanship. read more

I have done business with the owner in the past when he owned another shop under another name. In my experience, the Owner, Michael Bodnar is a Liar and a Dishonest man. I would strongly suggest you NOT take your boat to this shop. Mr. Bodnar, Overcharged and lied to my face about the work he did, or didn't do. He slapped a glob of epoxy putty on a leaking pontoon and said he welded it. It was obviously not welded and it was still filled with water. But he handed me a $500.00 bill that said they pumped it out and welded it. Of course, I had to pay him this absorbent amount of money in order to get my boat back. Customer be ware!! read more

We have a very complex computer system on our Formula Boat that had been having computer issues since the date after the warranty expired (of course), we have taken it a dozen times to the dealership that we bought it from (which is always a 10 hour drive away) who is a Formula and Mercruiser Dealer, they have never been able to resolve the problem (but charged us several thousands of dollars anyway), so we tried several other dealers who only created even more issues and never resolved the first issues. Somehow we were lucky enough to stumble upon Bodnar......he resolved the issue in 1 day and we were back on the lake with NO ISSUES!!!! This guy takes your call when you are several states away when you are having issues and is happy to help you anytime. I highly recommend Bodnar, so much so that I will drive from Montana to take my boat there if I have any issues, these guys know what they are doing, and it shows. THANK YOU! read more

I took my 1993 SeaRay in for a basic motor tune-up. They also discovered a few very small issues, some I had them take care of and some I passed on. I really can't complain about much. The service was solid. The work was excellent. The price was fair. I wasn't in a hurry, but it was an almost 3 week turnaround... a 2 week wait at the shop, then 3-4 days doing the work/communicating with me on what to do. I have seen many horror stories of people waiting months on their boat in a shop, so I was pleased. If I had one (minor) complaint: I know it rained pretty good for a day or two while it was there... almost certainly uncovered. It might be asking a lot, would be nice if they had generic boat covers or covered parking. read more

Can not recommend due to shoddy work on an Evinrude outboard and not following the typed instruction on issue that spelled out exactly what it was brought in for. Lost power which they diagnosed as one of the two fuel pumps. Ok'd the work to rebuild and then they call saying it leaks. Pump never leaked before but ok'd them to get another pump. Paid extra for the load test and they said it was ok. Also asked about some credit toward the pump to the shop manager since it did not leak prior to them rebuilding and was told Dana would look at it for maybe some credit and "if he does he does and if he doesn't he doesn't". Well never got a call back from Dana so no help at all. It did take almost a week longer then promised however was not is a rush for it. Upon picking up and paying almost $800.00, the invoice stated that the boat was brought in for fuel leaks which it was not, only a power loss, so this appears to be an attempt by the shop manager, tech or both to cover up the poor workmanship. I did ask for and received the old parts and later after opening up the pump they rebuilt, it was found they misaligned the gasket which is why it was leaking. The mechanic should have pulled the cover off and checked why it was leaking since it was obvious it was not when brought it and during their load test. To charge a customer for parts and labor not needed is just plain dishonest. read more

I took our 2004 215WE Sea Ray into Dana and he and his crew did an outstanding job taking the bottom paint off and resurfacing the gel coat. Our boat looked pretty good already but we weren't going to wet slip it any longer thus the bottom paint removal...now she looks like a brand new boat! I always feel like I am getting great service and an honest opinion. These folks are organized and on the ball. They communicate well and take time to explain repairs fully. My outboard's check engine light was on and they took care of it. Parts were going to take a while and the shop was backed up, but they were honest about it, and that means a lot to me. Back on the lake now and all is well. I sustained hull damage during a monsoon and brought my boat into Dana for an estimate. Dana explained the whole process to me and also informed me that based on the value of the boat and estimated repairs, he suspected this boat would come back as a salvage. What made Dana's service exceptional was that he handled the entire process with my insurance company in helping me get a settlement. Stay away! After an original estimate of 650$, they ended up coming back with a 3500$ price for a fuel pump, control box and a annual service. In the meantime, between Dana, the owner, Jeff the manager and the actual guy that looked at the boat, I was given 3 different prices/hours to do the job and the amount varied. After refusing the work, I told Dana, the owner, to get the boat ready as I was looking to pick it up in 2 hours. The boat was filthy, all dirty inside, one panel was removed and not placed in a flat position, that was now very curved and not fitting in its place, engine cover was removed, the fuel rail cap removed, the control box in pieces, 4 cuts on my brand new upholstery, which by the way was just redone a few days before dropping the boat to them. I ended up being charged 1.5 hours in labor after being told several times it was just one hour to check it out. Now, I am out 200$ in "guestimate" work, 300$ in detail and who knows how much for the rest. Please, do yourself a favor and go somewhere else!! read more
