Been here several times and both times had its ups and downs. 1) Paella is a must!!!! Great for sharing, big portions, and seafood is fresh, great with their sangria. 2) Both times I came with a group, all of us shared numerous tapas. I would say having tried at least 7-10 tapas it was ok. Nothing was amazing but it wasn't bad either. 3) I love the decor and atmosphere of this place only complain was the last time I came for dinner with girlfriends the music was so loud. It felt like a club and not a restaurant. I believe the table beside us told their server that the music was too loud. So we didn't bother. But we felt like it got louder as the night went on. 4) Service was great the first time I came. We didn't have reservation and they were kind enough to get a table of 6 in on a Saturday short notice. And overall I felt our first visit the server and rest of staff was more attentive. Second time it was a very busy night and we felt like our server was not really giving us attention. We wanted more tapas and drinks and probably would have ordered more if our server came around more. I came for a girlfriends birthday and had a cake. No one offered to take it out of our table until our dinner started. I understand when its busy you cant give all tables equal attention. Super pumped to have chosen this spot for my birthday celebration. I had a small intimate dinner and happy to share that me and my guests were thoroughly impressed with our chosen dishes. The patatas brava, the squid ink paella, and the grilled octopus were definitely the stars of the show! Also really impressed with your Sangria Pitcher! Dayuuum you sure know how to make a girl blush on her birthday. Very happy to dine in despite all of the social regulations. I really hate this place. It's the reason I think I hate Spanish cuisine altogether. Their vegetarian options would be a joke, but there's nothing funny about paella with one oyster mushroom cut up in it costing the same amount as one full of seafood. Everything a vegetarian can eat tastes mostly of partially cooked white onion and tomato water, regardless of the type of dish. My wife asked the server to pack one of the left-over dishes up to go and I involuntarily blurted out "WHY??" The second time I went here was by accident, not realizing that the restaurant on Main is the same one that used to be downtown - which I went to *years* ago and still remembered hating. Dropped in for happy hour on a Saturday afternoon. I live nearby and visit frequently. Service is consistently slow to start and today was no different - from the lack of acknowledgement at the front door to delay in serving water and ordering the first drink (10 minutes). I was the first guest to be seated in a somewhat empty (later to be filled) dining area and serving staff are always talking to each other and not the guests. But once they finally get started, great service thereafter. Good selection of tapas for happy hour. Meatballs are succulent and flavourful - best in the city. Chicken wings are huge! And perfectly fried. That patatas bravas sauce is so good. And off the regular menu, you must have the peppers. Wish they offered a sparkling wine for happy hour. I came here for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. It was surprisingly large and the walls were full of pictures of Spanish celebrities and paraphernalia which I much appreciated. My girlfriend and I ordered a variety of tapas, including the olivas, patatas bravas, chorizo iberico, calamares fritos, montaditos de lomo and tarta de queso. They were all delicious but the patatas bravas and montaditos really stood out to me. For drinks we ordered a pitcher of white wine sangria. I have tried quite a few Latin tapas restaurants locally but I have to say Bodega on Main is on the top of my list! As it's a tapas restaurant we decided to try 4 dishes to start. We had the pulpo a la parilla (grilled octopus), chorizo a la parilla and albondigas (meatballs) and ceviche. All were amazing. Add that to the great ambience and quick/good service and you couldn't really ask for more. We came on a weekday however if you plan to come on a weekend, I recommend booking in advance. read more

All the food was delicious, however the meats dish (lamb chops and beef skewers) and paella was served at the end of many courses and we could not enjoy it at all as we were already so full. Ordered an after dinner drink, coffee and Baileys, and the coffee was so dark, meaning the amount of Baileys added was minimal, and it wasn't enjoyable . Perhaps serving it in a smaller cup, not a latte mug, would make a difference. Other than that, I would definitely return for another meal here. read more

I loved the old La Bodega, it was part of my childhood and young adulthood. The first trip I took to Spain I was astonished at how well La Bodega represented their home country. This is a new Bodega, not quite as good as the first (sorry!), but still great. The location is up and coming = mildly sketchy. The space is loud, very loud. High ceilings, hard floors and loud music/people - very new Spain versus old world feeling. The bathrooms could use a scrub. Food - The good; great vegetarian paella (ask for extra crispy to get an authentic Socorrat), a few of the cooks there don't understand this and make it watery (yuck), the patatas bravas and grilled chiles are beautiful holdovers from the old Bodega and are well done here. The sangria I've had here is weak and watery, I wouldn't recommend it but then do have some delicious reds. The staff are pretty great, even some familiar faces! The hostess and wait staff could use some dress coding but I'm there for the food so it's not a big deal. Hector is a very gracious and lovely host, glad to see his familiar face there. Make reservations, it gets packed. They also save some space for walk-ins and have been excellent in accommodating us. Dined here with fellow Yelpers last night for July's Supper Club. Since we wanted to try more items, 4 of us decided to order some tapas and the paella to share. For tapas, we ordered the Patatas Bravas (twice fried potatoes - $6), Gambas al Ajillo (chili & garlic prawns - $8), Calamares Fritos (calamari - $10), and the Albondigas (meatballs - $10). I thought everything tasted good but nothing really stood out for me. The potatoes were probably my least favourite of these but the others seemed to like it. The prawns were nicely cooked but lacking in flavour. It definitely could've had more of a kick -- I didn't really get any of the chili flavour. The calamari were fried perfectly and the aioli they serve it with was very tasty. Lastly, the meatballs were not bad but again, I wish the flavours had been more prominent. They have 3 options for paella all priced at $28: mixta, negra, and vegetariana. Note these take 30 minutes to cook. Our group ended up getting the Paella Mixta which was saffron rice with clams, mussels, shrimp, chicken, chorizo and pork -- basically a mix of everything. It was good but nothing special. I wasn't really impressed with the rice since I didn't taste much saffron. The chorizo was also kind of tough, making it difficult to chew. However, I like that they provided lots of toppings like the clams and mussels. I also got the Crema Catalana (creme brulee - $8) for dessert. I thought this was pretty good. The top layer of sugar was sufficiently crackly and the bottom was creamy without being too rich. I would rate this a 3.5 if there were half stars. Overall, I think the food was good but none of the dishes really impressed me. I also wish the portions were bigger. Given the price, I would've expected the food to be better. Don't get me wrong -- it is a nice place and the service was friendly and efficient (they split our bills correctly without us having to ask). I was craving paella for a while and I finally found this place and this place did not disappoint me at all! All of the food was pretty salty but it was very tasty. We ordered Pulpo a la parilla (grilled octopus), Calamares Fritos (basically calamari) and Paella mixta. The appetizers were the best and I loved grilled octopus the most! Ordered take-out from the restaurant for the first time today. Would have loved to have gone to the restaurant under different circumstances (and not during COVID-19). Food is individually packed and the bag is sealed for pick-up, which I really appreciate. The food was hot when picked up, and tasted great even after the drive home. While vacationing in Vancouver, Bodega was a recommendation from 2 wait staff at another restaurant. Decided to try it out on NYE. The lighting there was very dark but the atmosphere was lively & I sat solo at the bar for NYE dinner. I was very disappointed at the service at the bar. They were a couple of bartenders at the bar and other wait staff, but no one really acknowledged me even though it was not that busy. I had to ask and prompt for the menu, for my drink, etc. The 2 bartenders there kept to themselves cracking jokes and laughing. I didn't feel at all welcome. It felt like high school kids were gossiping and giggling and you were wondering what they were saying since it was in Spanish - quite unprofessional. They did treat their regulars who sat down later with more attention and care though. The tapas, on the other hand, were excellent. I had the patatas gravas, the champinones & grilled octopus - everything was cooked and seasoned perfectly (except for the garlic bread that was chewy and stale which I had asked them to toast a bit). The cocktail was a creamy concoction of espresso and vodka and that was also very good. So if I was to return (doubtful), it would be for the food but I would ask to sit at a table in the dining room as the wait staff seem to be more attentive and professional there. read more

This is my second attempt to try this place, my first try was at 7 PM on a busy Friday night. We were told to wait for at least an hour and 45 minutes. So for this time, we came on a weekday at 5 PM. We got seated immediately. We ordered their Paella Negra ($25) to start with since it took 30 minutes to prepare. Since this is a tapas place, the majority of the items are approximately $7-$8 with a small portion. For a group of 5, we ordered Paella Negra with 7 different tapas: Patatas Bravas i.e. potatoes ($5), Champinones i.e. mushroom ($7), Pollo Frito i.e. fried chicken ($7), Montaditos de Lomo i.e. pork loin ($8), Chorizo A La Parrilla i.e. pork sausage ($8), Gambas Al Ajillo i.e. prawns ($8) and Melnes A La Marinara i.e. mussels ($12). The paella negra was pretty much fried rice with fresh seafood, not as tasty as I would have wanted it to be. There are some highlights and some misses here. The potatoes, mussels and mushrooms were delicious. Mussels were so tender and plump and served with soup that you can dip bread into. The chorizo was tasty but a little bit hard to chew. I feel that the prawns were a little bit overcooked. Fried chicken and pork loins were nothing special. I would probably go back here again, it was a nice place to hang out with high ceiling and friendly servers. The Okays: * Ensaladilla de Rucula - salad ($8) 3.5/5 Baby arugula, apples, dates, red onion, goat cheat, almonds, white balsamic * Paella negra ($26) 3.5/5 Squid ink rice, prawns, calamari, baby squid, mussels, clams, and cuttlefish Overall, really great flavours in every dish that we tried. I'm a huge fan! Love the paella and the vibe! Was here the other night to celebrate a friends birthday and we all had a great time!

just came from an amazing dining experience... first off, dont let the location fool you. although it is located in a shady part of town, the food inside is nothing short of fantastic. on the outside, the place looks like a hippie bistro of some sort...but inside, the decors are great and the ambiance is upscale casual. nice frames and pictures adorn the interior. i particularly like the bar area. on the wall beside it hung 2 wide paella pans, on each they have a few menu items written in chalk, which really gives the place a spanish bistro feel. made it in time for happy hour...we naturally took advantage of the happy menu plus we had to order the ever famous Paella! for appys, we tried the Albondigas (meatballs with tomato sauce and grated cheese. ) next, of course we had to try the Jamon (ham) Serrano. then from the reg menu, we tried the shrimp gambas ( spain's take on garlic shrimp). the albondigas was simply put: "outstanding!" meatballs were so juicy and tender, as in almost fork tender but held together just enough not to crumble. the sauce was amazing! the quality of the tomatoes used and the blending with the spices would give any quality italian restaurant a run for their money. the grated cheese on top just added more gusto to the dish! the jamon serrano with olives and olive oil was excellent. similar to the Prosciutto, the main difference is the the ham is not as salty as its italian counterpart. but, it was thinly sliced with enough fat for optimum flavour. The wow factor here twas the dash of olive oil and actual cured olives that came with the dish. the the saltiness of the olives complimented the ham well and provided the perfect counter balance to its smokiness. next the gambas, again, similar to garlic shrimps, it was taken up a notch by adding chili flakes on the dish. traditionally, it should be served on a sizzling plate. but this one was just fine. the shrimps were plump and juicy and huge. fresh minced garlic and chilli flakes just took it to another level. only complaint, for the price, we only got a few pieces. last but not least, the main event! The Paella! mind you, ive had this dish in Spain, so i did raise my bar of expectations. the dish takes 30mins to make so order as soon as you sit. the dish came, and it looked majestic! the seafood and meats were perfectly arranged in absolute unison. fresh prawns, calamari rings, mussels, clams, chorizo ( yes, real chorizo) pieces, fresh herbs and lemon tastefully adorned this masterpiece. everything was on a bed of fragrant rice and peas. my only comment was that unlike the one i had in spain, this one was too wet. it was not soggy, the rice was still firm when eaten, however there was a bit more liquid than needed. but all the seafood was so fresh i could taste the sea. you can tell that they cooked everything together from raw state. no shortcuts. the calamari was so tender and moist. the clams opened up in their glory. the chicken was grilled before being placed in their giving it a good texture. it was so amazing! for dessert, we had the churros con chocolate with vanilla mascarpone! again, the quality is same as having churros in mexico. that good! tasted fresh and not frozen. the chocolate dip was the perfect accompaniment. the vanilla mascarpone was out of this world. it was so good and creamy..like vanilla gelato ice cream. so rich and full of body! service was impeccable! server all smiles and very attentive. took the time to explain and answer questions...engaged me in conversation as well. i really appreciated it. yes, i will go back for sure to try the other items on the menu! so close to where i work too. im glad i gave it a try. found another gem on the dt eastside. cheers! happy eating! read more

Hubby and I came here early on a sat night and got a seat without reservation. We ordered few tapas and the paella negra. Honestly, their paella was missing flavour. We've been to Spain few times and had their paella. Cannot be compared to. Also service was definitely mediocre. Starting from the hostess to the waiter. Both doesn't seems to appreciate business coming in. Might have to think twice about ever coming back. I would give 2.5 star. read more

I've been waiting for this place to open since the original La Bodega on Howe closed down. This place has only been open for 3 days so there's a few service issues that needs to be ironed out. The manager was nice and accommodating but we didn't know who our server was. We just assumed it was the lady helping everyone else except for us. A hostess took our order because we flagged her down but she wasn't familiar with the menu and didn't know how to pronounce the dishes. The food took about 20-30 mins to arrive and they gave us the bread (starter) last after we asked for it. Anyways, on to the food. The Gambas Al Ajillo was delicious. It is small (4 prawns) but tasty and garlicky. Pair it with the bread and olive oil and it's yummy! The Albondigas (meatballs) were not bad. I thought the Paella Mixta could be better. It looked amazing but it wasn't as tasty as I thought it would be. It was not that flavourful. The decor was nice and interesting but it was super bright in there for a dinner. There was no mood lighting or ambiance. Just bright lights. I had high hopes for this place to be the same or similar to the original but I'll give it another few months to get better and try it again. read more

When you are the type who can't make up your minds or like to try a little bit of everything this is the place to go! Bodega has a great variety of Spanish tapas that is great for sharing. Each plate of tapas is good to share with at most 4 people. I came with a larger group of 9 and we ordered two of most of the dishes and there was a good portion for everyone to try and some more. They even have 3 different types of paella to choose from. We had the seafood paella and the squid ink one. Both were very tasty. And it was fun to eat the squid ink one and watching everyone's mouth go black temporarily! Some other dishes we tried included the grilled octopus, ceviche, mussels with tomato sauce, beef tongue, meatballs, fried potatoes, and mushrooms. They were all very flavorful and bit on the salty side. I would definitely come here to order the ceviche and seafood paella again! Came here for lunch at around 1400 with my bf and a group of friends after our fun pokemon community event at Science World (hah not really =_=). Place was quite dead when we got there so we were seated very quickly. They did mentioned to us that we had to finish in 2 hours since the restaurant was all booked for dinner. Two of my friends ordered their Morcilla on their brunch menu which included fried potatoes, blood sausage, poached eggs and manchego cheese while my other friend, and my bf and I (we shared) had their breakfast paella which included chorizo sausage, shrimp, poached eggs and chicken. The paella was very flavorful but it was a bit too wet for me. I prefer my paella on the drier side because I like the consistency of chewy rice. I think if my bf didn't mix everything together so well that it would of been a lot better for me. I liked that they added peas to the paella because it gave it some freshness and sweetness. The chicken, however, was a little disappointing because it was just a chicken wing. I would of preferred chunks of boneless chicken mixed within the paella. The chorizo sausage wasn't bad but I would of liked it more with their blood sausage because it was absolutely delicious! I thought it would have a bloody taste but there wasn't! It had a nice texture and flavor. I really enjoy the exterior part because it was very crispy and chewy. Overall, food was quite good and staff was super friendly. After getting bit 2 weeks ago by a sick Canada goose I am so grateful to be back on my feet. The goose bit me multiple times on my feet and legs and I was on STRICT bed rest (under direction from Dr. Tarp) and therefore unable to visit any of my favourite restaurants. Now that I am recovered I am determined to not only raise awareness about the diseased and rabid geese that inhabit many of our community parks but also to eat a celebratory meal at one of my all-time favourite restaurants: Bodega On Main. I love tapas because I prefer to eat with my hands and rarely use any utensils at home (I even eat soup with my hands). I'm glad that tapas normalizes the freedom I feel when NOT restricted by having to use forks, knives, or spoons. My wife and in laws had dinner at Bodega and were very pleased with most aspects of the experience. A nice variety of tapas, meats, cheeses, sea food, salads etc. I shared the paella and garlic shrimp with Peter. Sampled the Caesar salad, and bruschetta. All just right and very well done. Major issue was the volume of the music. Very overwhelming, too loud, obtrusive, dominating, you get the point. The selection of tunes was fine, but it seems that the management or staff were very proud of their JBL system. I was impressed, but not pleased. Drop it down a few notches and allow the patrons to create the mood and enjoy conversation, this is why we dine together. I might not return because of the music. My wife and I had great evening sitting at the bar and being served by the AGM/Bar Manager, Katie Parkinson. The hostess was friendly and helpful even when we decided to stay at the bar instead of taking a table. I started with a drink called La Loba. I enjoy bourbon and this was pure joy. It was a cross between an Old Fashion and a Manhattan. You must try this libation if you like this type of drink--it's sublime! We had a fine Bottle of red from La Rioja in Spain with our tapas. We had a number of dishes, my favorites were the tongue (stop saying bad things about tongue until you've tried it) and the muscles. I did find the paella a little to salty for my tastes. I hope they tweak the recipe to reduce it. The place was busy and full of smiling happy people. We had a great deal of fun talking to the staff. They were attentive and yet not in your face. Food not up to usual standards, and service was appalling - rude and neglectful . Had to remind the server several times about forgotten orders. Although the restaurant was practically empty, our party of 10 was forced to move after two hours, even though we were still ordering food and alcohol, supposedly because the tables we were sitting at had been reserved. When we moved, we were totally ignored, and the tables where we had sat before were never occupied + a few groups of people were kept waiting at the doorway to be seated in a practically empty restaurant! Considering the amount of money we spent -- and were prepared to spend -- we deserved better treatment. Leaves you to wonder if they felt they could treat us that way because they had already charged us a gratuity for a large group on the order. So, our dining experience was a mixed one. Food: I ordered the following... Callos (Tripe): 1/5 It wasn't properly cleaned and had a very, very strong funky flavor. I expect gamey funky flavors, but this was just not good. Patatas Bravas: 3/5, it's potatoes in tomato sauce...can you really screw this up? Membrillo Y Queso: 5/5, delicious but they didn't really do the cooking. It's cheese with quice jelly, which most likely is store-bought. Lengua: 3/5 The tongue was tender, but the sauce wasn't anything to call home about. A bit bland and I felt over-salted Paella Negra: 3/5 My parents liked it and the seafood was tender, but where was the socarrat (pan crust)? I felt the rice was almost overcooked but no crispy socarrat. Pulpo: 4/5 The octopus was tender and sauce was good. I would order this again. Now on to service....service started on a bad foot. I dropped of my parents at happy hour time but they said the time has passed. Mind you we were 5 min out but still, we were within happy time hours! I parked the car and came in at 6:03 pm and complained and they gave us the happy hour prices for a few items. This didn't start the dinner on the right foot. Eventually, the service became better but there seemed to be a lot of confusion amongst the service staff. I would rate it 2.5/5 just because they were a bit rude to my elderly parents. Overall, I don't think I will come back for a while...or ever. My office had our Christmas party here and it was an entirely different experience with better food and better service. I love the ambiance of this room. I'm not sure how to describe it but it feels like medieval Europe. We were there for brunch and a lot of the dishes were quite foreign to me but very interesting. I tried an egg in a cream with cheese and mushrooms. I'm sure I gained 10 pounds from this creamy delicious dish but it was worth it. Espresso which I typically don't have was perfect. There was wine connoisseur who helped my friend choose the perfect Spanish wine to pair with her meal. It was a nice touch of service. read more

3.5. We got seated at the bar for dinner. We ordered the sangria to drink, and the chorizo, stuffed peppers, and squid ink paella for food. The chorizo had lots of flavour, we would order it again. The paella was okay, not much flavour and be prepared for black teeth after! However, our favourite dish was the stuffed peppers with goat cheese. Definitely make sure to try these if you come here. Prices are fair, service was fine. We would come back if we were in the area. read more
