I came here for a "mixology" event a year ago and my first impression was that this place was great! When my parents asked if I wanted to meet them here for happy hour, there was no hesitation. We got situated. There was one server but only three couples then three people at the bar top. This experience was not good and I will not be going back. The server we had wasn't good. He messed up our order, he didn't make eye contact with anyone at the table, just not comfortable vibes. The drinks themselves were good. We had mojitos. The food however, was extremely bland. We asked for fries and received the Yucitas Fritas. We also ordered the beef empanada and jerk wings. Wasn't impressed with anything and wasn't worth the price to be honest. Cute interior though. I do like the colorful walls and decorations.

I came here for dinner with a friend, and we decided to share a pitcher of mojito, the King Salad, and the Jerk Chicken Bodega Plate. For dessert, we went with the guava pastry. The salad was fresh and tasty, though I felt the passionfruit vinaigrette could've had a stronger passionfruit flavor. The Jerk Chicken Bodega Plate, however, was a standout which was packed with flavor and perfectly paired with their arroz con gandules, maduros and plantains. Our server, Alexis, was wonderful and gave us great recommendations on what to order. We were a bit disappointed that the beef empanadas were sold out, but that just gives us a reason to come back next time. We'll definitely be returning!

This place is really charmy (is this a word?) From the decor to the furniture/seating, you can tell they wanted to present Cuba in Sacramento! The service was on point and the food was delicious. I really appreciate this restaurant and think it's a gem

UPDATE: I've been going to Bodega regularly since my first review, and they've gotten better and better. The menu changes regularly with new items (right now there are several new vegan dishes being offered), and they are constantly doing fun events. We had a delicious, traditional roasted pig meal for their 2 year anniversary, and right now I'm here for a "make your own" old fashioned event! Their cocktail game has been elevated so high since my first time, with some drinks that have rivaled the best bars i've been to. The vibes are awesome, the food is great, and the cocktails are on point! I hope this place is able to finally break the curse of this location! Incredible food, mixed drinks, and service. I've never had a C sandwich in this style, and it rocked my world. The "Gina Colada" tasted nothing like a pina colada... and also rocked my world. The dude at the register was super patient with my parents and their weird order preferences, and everyone who worked just seemed chill as hell. It's rare to get a place like this in south sac, and Im happy it still has the "hang out" atmosphere the bar it replaced had. Highly recommended.

This is a friendly neighborhood restaurant that caters well to those that want a good cocktail menu and small plates. The entrees for dinner on the evening i was there (Thursday) were only 5 + a Thursday night turkey sandwich. I ordered the Cubano sandwich which was nicely toasted and filled with a variety of proteins. My sandwich was very good. I also had a glass of the French red wine which was good and sensibly priced. My friend ordered the double burger "smash burger" and she ate every bite which lead me to believe she loved it. I'll be back.

Came here for some happy hour and try out the menu. . Plantain sandwich- with cheese, mayo, and pulled pork and beef mix with 2 slices of plantain as the bun was really good. It was different and felt healthy with out the carbs. I love drenching this in the habenero sauce and pineapple spicy sauce too. . Jamaican jerk chicken wings - loved the char grilled wings cooked to perfection. It served on a sizzling platter with sprinkling the sauces to make it sizzle. . Tacos with pulled pork and nacho cheese was crispy thin and savory. . Overall the ambiance is casual inside. When you walk in grab the menu and sit at a table. The inside has lots of seating. The service was great. The food was comforting, different and is great for someone adventurous. I do see veggie and vegan options which I liked. Hope this review helps and thanks for reading. Have a yelptastic day!

Okay so Boom, came here two years ago. Some girl made me the best Mai tai ever... the food to me wasn't amazing (keep in mind I'm Trini and I tried the doubles and... chile. I knew it was Puerto Rican so why tf did I think the doubles would be good) but this year I was like lemme come back... chile so glad I did!! Had the plantain nachos and loaded asado fries both 10/10 (fries had sweet and salty flavor) and nachos were absolutely loaded with seasoned beef and plantain cooked to perfection. My husband had an old fashioned which was top 3 and not the 3! And I had a couple shots of tequila. Lo, our bartender was extremely attentive and did a shot with us! All and all I will be back definitely monthly for a night out. 10/10 experience... I ate too fast before taking pics but here's a photo of my fire Paloma! Great ambiance at the bar

I visited Bodega Kitchen & Cocktails on Tuesday, 3/26/24, around 2 PM for lunch. For the appetizer, I tried the Yuca Fries with Mojo Aioli. The fries were deliciously light and airy. The aioli sauce paired well with fries. For the entree, I got the Braised Oxtail dish. It came with arroz con gandules (rice with pigeon peas), avocado, tostones, and pickled veggies. The entire plate was palatable. The meat was tender and the rice with peas was beyond delicious. For the drink, I got Cranberry juice. It was refreshing. The restaurant staff members were attentive and friendly. I also loved the inside of the restaurant. It was inviting, vibrant, and colorful. All of the decor as well as the wall art were fantastic. Overall, this restaurant is truly wonderful. I will return here in the future.

Braised oxtail w/ fried plantains and bed of rice

Been wanting to try Bodega for a while and finally made my way there. It's got a nice energy, lots of people having a good time, and a lot of people at the bar on a Friday night. Out waiter was really cool, and he had a great name which we both share. The food ordering system was number based, they leave a number on a stand at your table, and assign your items to a tab. I wasn't sure if you are suppose to bring the number to the bar to pay or just ask your server. But they got my money in the end no problemo. The food was pretty good but not mindblowing. I tried the jerk wings and they had a great sear and was served very hot in cute little cast iron dishes. I can't help comparing to a hole in the wall jerk chicken place next to FB HQ in Menlo Park that actually was mindblowing. I also tried the braised oxtail which was served very tender on a nice bed of tasty rice. The meat could have used more seasoning I think, but all the little sides like pickled veggies and avocados help augment the flavor. My dining companions had the seared prawns and said it was very good too. My wife had the Penil and she said it was decent but she seemed more impressed by the yucca fries. I'd love to go back and try their burger, cubano, and mussels w/ chorizo. Looking forward to experiencing a little slice of Cuba in my neighborhood!

I ordered the Maduros, jerk wings, and empanadas. I had an old fashion for my beverage. The jerk wings were fantabulous, and the empanadas were off the chain. The plantains were a little dry.

We were going to see the new Bob Marley movie and wanted to find some grub that was on theme and Bodega didn't disappoint! We ordered the empeñadas and fried jerk chicken sandwich with yucca fries. The flavors were all on point and the cooking was done to perfection. The slaw on that sandwich was . The menu has a lot of interesting options which made it difficult to narrow down, guess we'll have to come back ‍. The service was very friendly and helpful but also let us be to enjoy our dinner. The interior was a nice mix of sit down intimacy and small sports bar vibes. All in all I'd recommend if you are looking for some good authentic Jamaican food.

What a fun new dining addition to Sacramento. I love Puerto Rican and island cuisine and Bodega brings the flavor. Roast pork/pernil was delicious and generously portioned. My friend had the oxtails with pigeon peas and rice. She shared and it was delicious. Menu changes seasonally, as do the cocktails. This is bound to be a regular spot on my dining rotation. If you have any love for Caribbean cuisine, check out Bodega.

My husband and I met up with our friend for brunch at Bodega. We had had Bodega bookmarked since it first opened, so we were excited to try it out. It wasn't busy when we walked in and the staff let us know that we could place our orders at the bar and then take a seat anywhere. It was more like a help yourself setting. There were cups on the tables with napkins and utensils. Cups and a water dispenser were located on a separate table towards the back. My husband and our friend both ordered the Cubano and I opted for the Hangover Bowl. Our friend also ordered a hot coffee. Our orders were brought over to our table after a short wait. The bowl was really good and I only wish there was more! I can see why it's called the hangover bowl - the rich flavors would be sure to cut through any fog from a night out. I tried a bite of the Cubano and thought it was okay. There was definitely a lot of meat, but I didn't get as much mustard or pickle flavor. The fries were perfectly crispy and fresh, and I arguably enjoyed those more than the sandwich. The location has a really laid back vibe during brunch. Another family, who I'm assuming knew the owners, brought in kids bikes to work on at the table next to us. The restaurant started to fill up around lunch time as we were wrapping up our meal. I'll be back to try more items beyond their brunch menu!

    Melissa is feeling happy!

There are no massage chairs and no jetted foot tubs. My tech started with removing my regular polish, trimming and filing and then proceeded to swipe a foot filer once maybe twice on my heels and that's it. That's all you get. Next up, 30 second sugar scrub and then a hot towel. Fresh polish and no lotion massage at all. Also, tech doesn't clean under the nails either. My friend wanted to do French tips with hearts on her finger nails and was told they don't do nail designs. It's below basic service and not worth the price. I will not be returning.

When we walked in I knew I was in the perfect spot-this bar has those low lights that all the bars in the 70s and 80s had-giving off a both romantic and mysterious vibe to it-I was in love with the place from that moment on. The music that day was awesome-I heard they have live music at times but at the time of my visit they did not-they were instead playing 90s and 2000s R&B and Hip Hop-it was wonderful-one banger after another-so yeah I was vibing. Our waitress couldn't have been cooler-she was as friendly as can be-suggesting drinks that were both on and off the menu-her and I were sharing tequila stories based on our shared affinity for the Fortaleza tequila they had in stock -which is super rare and it's how I judge every bar-whether or not they have Fortaleza tequila on hand and The Butterscotch Den had multiple bottles on hand. We ended up going with a few drinks that day. -Strawberry Negroni-($13.00)-This one blew my socks off-my favorite drink in the works is a Negroni but this bar makes a Strawberry version of it and let me tell ya-it's dynamite-10/10 rating -Old Fashioned-($12.00)-This is my go-to order at most bars because it's pretty reliable and most bars can make a decent one and I'd say they make a very solid one here-8.2/10 rating -Cucumber Gimlet with Tequila-($11.00)-This drink was made with lime-sweet vermouth and tequila-it was very refreshing and went down way too easy-rating 8.4/10 -Mezcal mystery drink-($12.00)-This was a drink the bartender made that after we declared our love for the smokiness of mezcal-I wouldn't be able to ask for it again unless I got the same waitress but if your a mezcal lover like I am-this drink was top of the line-smokiness intensity off the charts-9.1/10 rating So a little about the place that I picked up during my visit-I guess they serve food-I didn't know that but after my 2nd drink I looked back and saw this entire dining area with table side grills-so I guess the customers cook their own meats and such-pretty cool concept-my visit was strictly a drinking visit so I didn't partake but it looked pretty cool. I guess they are opened most days from 4p-12am and until 2am on Friday and Saturday nights. They do not have a dedicated parking lot for this bar but they are located near 34th and Broadway-so unlimited street parking is available for those who drive here. In closing-I really really enjoyed my visit to The Butterscotch Den and I was pretty sure I had found my new favorite bar in Sacramento with a bar in the Ice Blocks but I am pretty sure that has changed and The Butterscotch Den is my new favorite bar in the greater Sacramento area-if you find yourself looking for a new spot to enjoy some adult beverages or maybe looking for a date night spot-don't hesitate to make your way over to The Butterscotch Den-the place is a true hidden gem. PS-They have a Disco Ball in their lounge area and a vintage non-working cigarette machine-the coolest I tell ya.

We started with the mezcal old fashioned and the cucumber jalapeño margarita. The mezcal old fashioned was a delicious smoky twist on the classic cocktail. The cucumber jalapeño margarita was refreshing, though a little sweeter than I expected and missing the spicy kick I was hoping for. The guacamole was fresh and tasty, but the portion was quite small and barely enough for two people in my opinion. The salsa was also small but it was absolutely phenomenal. The chicken tacos were excellent, with tender chicken that was perfectly seasoned and full of flavor. The enmoladas were also fantastic and are a great way to sample Oaxaca's three unique mole sauces, each with its own distinct character. One thing to note is that the chicken filling is intentionally prepared very simply in traditional Oaxacan cuisine so that the mole remains the star of the dish. If you prefer heavily seasoned meat, this dish may be milder than what you are used to. Overall, everything we tried was delicious and offered a wonderful taste of authentic Oaxacan flavors. Our meal for two included one cocktail each, chips and guacamole, three chicken tacos, and three enmoladas, and came to about $100 with tip.

The server came to our table so we did not have to head over to the bar. They came a couple of times to check on us but were attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the drink options! Definitely worth a check out if you are looking for a friendly public speaker easy.

It seems like they're limiting how many people are let in at once, and honestly, I'm here for that kind of crowd control. We showed up at perfect timing and scored the cozy spot right by the fireplace. Total win. My friends and I ordered The Clausmo while my guy got the Turtledove. We also all tried the shooters, I had the Nesbitt, and he got the Perry. Every drink was delicious, no complaints from any of us. The lady helping us with our order was super sweet, patient, and friendly, and the guy who seated us deserves a shoutout too. There was a small mix-up, but he made it right and got us that perfect fireplace seating. Gold star service. Overall, I'd rate the experience a solid 9 out of 10. And can we talk about the bathroom for a sec? A black toilet paired with deep green walls? Obsessed. Trophy Club is absolutely becoming one of my favorite spots. Now I just need to check it out when it's not in theme mode... but let's be honest, I live for the theme nights.

Everything felt thoughtfully put together with bold flavors and great presentation. You can tell they care about quality ingredients and consistency. The menu has a simple, fun, modern twist while still being approachable, so there's something for everyone. Service was also a highlight--friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. It made the whole experience feel easy and enjoyable, especially while celebrating my dad's birthday!

I stopped at Stepdad's yesterday for lunch with a friend. I had the Caesar Salad with grilled…read morechicken, and she had the 1924 Burger. Except for the chicken which was pretty average, my salad was simply awful. It appears as though Stepdad's uses hearts of romaine rather than the whole head. Not a single leaf look like it was more than the palest of green/yellow from the core. The croutons were dry but didn't taste as though they'd been toasted or seasoned. The over abundance of chopped egg was frightening, and the capers (?) or oil-cured olives (?) just seemed out of place. All of this might have been overlooked had the dressing delivered. It did not. It had absolutely no flavor. How can that be? By definition Caesar dressing is nothing but a flavor symphony! No acid (lemon, vinegar), no salt (Worcestershire, anchovy, Parmesan), no pepper, no GARLIC. I bemoaned the lack of flavor as I grudgingly ate my salad, to which my friend replied "Well all of the salt ended up on", not in, "the middle of my burger". ‍
