    Crispy Carnitas and Albondigas
    john h.

First of all, the building is historic and beautiful. It has high ceilings and lots of room to sit. From the counter, I ordered a crispy carnitas taco and the special taco, albondigas. The carnitas taco was very good, you could taste the cheese which was sort of infused in the carnitas. The albondigas was not as good, I liked it, but the meatballs did not have a lot of taste and the beans were the dominant flavor. Service was good. I can see myself returning and trying some adult beverages.

Loved the patio at La Venadita--super cute and perfect for a casual hang with friends. It was pretty warm inside (took 1 star), so the outdoor seating was a win. Margaritas were on point, and Toria was awesome--super friendly and took great care of us. The nachos were hands-down my favorite thing we ordered. Definitely coming back. Recommend!

Food: Lackluster for my brown blood. In the end, it's fine and if you just need some good drinks and want some tacos or other tex mex fare to accompany it, it gets the job done. This is by no means spectacular tex mex / mexican food. The flavor profile just isn't there. I've had the quesabirria, an assortment of tacos, and, most recently, the breakfast burrito. It's just missing that extra step. The breakfast burrito w/ veggies and chorizo - didn't really taste the chorizo. Good ratio of eggs, starch, and veggies otherwise. Just didn't get that spicy, even oily, flavor bolus that you want. I paired it with a sparkling water. For $22, I'm not making it part of my routine. Service: You order at the counter, given a number, and it's brought to your table. Ambiance: I think this is where the place shines and saves it from 2 stars. There is a very nice front and back patio. Perfect for when the weather is just right. They got daily specials and an unlimited mimo option on the weekend.

I have to admit I was skeptical to come here based on the overall star reviews, but family wanted to eat here - and boy was I happy! Came here on a nice sunny day. They have plenty of seating outdoors and indoors. You walk in and they have a very big menu. You order/pay at the counter, grab your number and find a spot. I ordered the taco plate - where you get to choose two tacos (crispy chicken yum!) and you get rice and beans. The crispy chicken tacos were amazing and refreshing! They were not drenched in oil and the crunch was amazing. 100% would come back for the flavors, price, and portion sizes.

Tacos, margs, and great patio space! Great Mexican food! So this place can be popular, be prepared to wait. But they are efficient. They have some great happy hour specials and don't miss the rotating aguas frescas. Lots of taco options (quesabirria, impossible, fish, or even vampiro= al pastor & fried cheese)

I was in town visiting my sister. This place is right down the street. We were able to find street parking pretty easily for a Saturday. The place is very cute, plenty of tables inside, plus a back and front patio that offers plenty of shade. I ordered the two tacos plate. I got the crispy chicken tacos, rice and refried black beans. For the table I ordered chips and guacamole. Everything was super delicious!! I would def come back here if I were in the area. They had so many options and the cashier/server helped answered our questions.

First time going to this restaurant, we were there to check out a bakery and came across it. The restaurant is very clean and I really like the style. The outdoor seating is also nice. The staff was friendly. I only had chips and salsa and a bacon and egg breakfast taco. The taco was delicious, it tasted a little smoky which I enjoyed. Chips were crisp and not the least bit greasy and the salsa selections were all very good. Looking forward to going back sometime soon.

Especially love Taco Tuesday--$3 for special tacos. My favorites-- Vampiro & Crispy Chicken. The interior channels Friday Kahlo. Patio has good shade. Staff friendly-- order at counter & they deliver. Aqua Fresca or Jamaica ( hibiscus) to drink if not a margarita

    Lovely taco Tuesday tacos.

This is currently my favorite Taco Tuesday offering in the area! They have spectacularly executed tacos at affordable pricing. The special tacos are rotated every week, and they've all been tasty on my end. The tacos are larger than typical street tacos just fyi. They do take a bit longer than other restaurants (usually at least 20 mins) so don't just order online + arrive early and expect food to be done already.

I visited this establishment on a Sunday afternoon, party of two. They did not have table service. I ordered off of the brunch menu, which runs Saturday/Sunday from 10a-3p, and got the huevos rancheros plate. The other person in my party ordered the quesabirria tacos. I will put it to you like this, the food left much (seasoning) to be desired, as both plates were very bland. The best item out of what was ordered today was the michelada. While the service was okay, I would not recommend or return. This place is more aesthetic than anything.

Love this local neighborhood joint! My boyfriend and I went here for a date night and we weren't disappointed. We loved that it was in walking distance and it had a nice patio for outdoor seating to enjoy the weather! I really enjoyed the tacos because I thought they were really authentic. The Vampiro taco was Al pastor with bits of pineapple, which I found refreshing to balance out the flavor. The carne asada taco was good but I think it needed something else on it like guacamole or salsa. I really liked the chips and salsa appetizer that we got because the salsa trio was well thought out: fried jalapeño, chili verde, and red salsa. All of them were homemade, which homemade, which is why I enjoyed them so much! Overall, we will be coming back over the summer!

La Venadita has some tasty mexican flavors with a relaxed vibe. I have been coming in on weekend nights for dinner for some time. It is counter service with a big menu board up front with drinks and specials as well. Friendly staff will take your order and bring it out to you when ready. I love the brick interior with beautiful art and the giant windows. Good for groups, they take reservations but you can also usually pull a few tables together without issue. I order a two taco plate, which comes with mexican rice and choice of refried, black or pinto beans with lime wedges. I like the pollo, a slightly spicy taco with onions and green sauce, as well as the sweet potato which comes with whole beans, sweet potato, fancy lettuce, spicy roasted chiles and crispy pepitas. The jamaica or hibiscus drink is good, but maybe too sweet for my taste. Reasonable prices but can get a bit crazy when busy at peak dining times and when there are events in the area. On a far corner in the Oak Park commercial core you can find good food at La Venadita.

Boy oh boy! My visit here was last minute and in the moment and I was delightfully surprised! When you walk in, you order and then they serve you at any table of your choosing. There's a big menu and I got a little overwhelmed because it was full of people enjoying dinner. I went with a chorizo breakfast burrito and chips/salsa. The salsa were very different from each other and the red was incredible!!!! The burrito was so delicious, I'm going to be returning to get it again and try more off the menu. Staff was all very friendly! Really cool vibe.

I remember from the video they said this was considered a "bartenders bar",the kind of spot that that bartenders and workers in the industry would hangout after their shifts-I liked the sound of that. Walking up to where I thought the bar was located,it was kinda funny because it was just an innocent looking blue door with the words "Cocktail" along the side-doesn't look like much at all,I'd imagine I've walked by this place many times without thinking of ever going in-that was changing this time. When I walked in I 100% knew I was stumbling upon something special-it was a tiny place but it was overflowing with energy, not many booths in this bar and it may be the smallest bar I've ever been to but it felt special.Looking at the clientele I felt like I was with my people,it was so cool in there. This is the kind of place I would take my wife and any of my friends before a special night out and be it a dinner or a concert or a production at Safe Performing Arts Center and feel like it would set the right vibe for the night. Looking over the menu, they had some very interesting looking drinks, the wife went with a French 75($12.00)and I went with a Pecan Brown Sugar Old Fashioned($16.00)The bartenders are very friendly and super personable and really took their time and took pride in their drinks-I had never had an Old Fashioned quite like that one,but it went down super smooth-I loved i-I look forward to going there again asap. A coupe of things about this bar-they do only have 1 unisex bathroom,it was very clean. Also this place is so old school that they are a "Cash-Only " bar. They do have an atm in the bar in case you forget your cash. They have a big fish tank behind the bar that really put the room together nicely-I liked it a lot. In closing,if you ever find yourself in the Ice Blocks part of midtown and want to experience an awesome bar that feels very unique-head on down to Frank and have a drink or two-you won't regret it-I think I may have found my new favorite bar in all of Sacramento. PS-I loved talking to the bartender telling me how they don't carry Don Julio but have many varieties of Fortaleza instead-a true IYKYK moment if there ever was one-this place rocks.

The restaurant is quite small inside with very limited seating, but the outdoor patio is beautiful. Be ready to likely sit outside, but enjoy the atmosphere. We started with the mezcal old fashioned and the cucumber jalapeño margarita. The mezcal old fashioned was a delicious smoky twist on the classic cocktail. The cucumber jalapeño margarita was refreshing, though a little sweeter than I expected and missing the spicy kick I was hoping for. The guacamole was fresh and tasty, but the portion was quite small and barely enough for two people in my opinion. The salsa was also small but it was absolutely phenomenal. The chicken tacos were excellent, with tender chicken that was perfectly seasoned and full of flavor. The enmoladas were also fantastic and are a great way to sample Oaxaca's three unique mole sauces, each with its own distinct character. One thing to note is that the chicken filling is intentionally prepared very simply in traditional Oaxacan cuisine so that the mole remains the star of the dish. If you prefer heavily seasoned meat, this dish may be milder than what you are used to. Overall, everything we tried was delicious and offered a wonderful taste of authentic Oaxacan flavors.
