Pozole
Ss S.

The pozole WAS DEE-LICIOUS! Savory and ultra comforting. They give a perfect amount of meat. It was a big serving so I took half home. The service was quick, attentive and present. It's family-owned. I would recommend this spot.

Love this place!!

My new favorite place! The atmosphere! The food! And the service is on point! The best chili verde in town!

Came here to celebrate my birthday with co-workers on a weekday. I had high hopes from the reviews but was generally disappointed. It is like a taqueria where you order at the counter and they bring it out to you. I ordered the Steak Ranchero. It was good but bland and the rice was dry. My boss wanted to just order a single Quesabirria taco, but they said no because it is only sold as a plate of 2 for $12 so we shared. That was just meh. They were not packed or juicy. I've tried a lot of quesabirria and these might be the worst for taste and value. Everyone in our party had the same sentiments on their meals that it was bland and just okay. The best part was that the chips n salsa bar was fresh, place was clean and the service was very friendly. They were pricey for just "okay" so probably will not be back but happy that I tried them out.

Birria Tacos and Al Pastor tacos.

I have mixed feelings about this place. Residing in the guts of an old Denny's is a new-ish Mexican restaurant. I have been systematically trying all the Mexican places in West Sac so this place finally came up. I ordered the quesabirria tacos as well as some Al Pastor tacos. The person behind the counter was very nice. I asked what was better, the Al pastor or the chile verde. He said the Al pastor was better so I went with that. The chips and salsa is free here. The regular hot salsa was very tasty. The other hot salsa was like a roasted chile (not chipotle) salsa which was extremely salty so hard to enjoy. The chips were not salted at all ( maybe to compensate for the very salty salsa). The salsa verde was decent enough. The food came out quick but not suspiciously quick. The quesabirra tacos alone were pretty good and flavorful. The consume was on the bland side and not very red; more of a murky brown. After putting all the lime juice in it, it was better but certainly not the best in the Sac area. The Al Pastor tacos......oooof. Not good. Dry and bland. Which is kind of a crazy accomplishment for Al pastor as it should be marinated and juicy. The meat here had almost no color. The fact that the person behind the register (who I think is the owner or manager as he came out to talk to diners, which was a nice touch) recommended it was a let down. Seems this place really relies on its happy hour and micheladas so maybe the food isn't the focus for them. I don't think I'd return.

Happy hour menu: Mon-Friday 4-8pm Beers $2.99 Michelada $4.99 Appetizers (nachos, quesadillas, shrimps a la Cora style appetizer size etc) 50% Taco Tuesday $1.99 ALL DAY! Clean restaurant and friendly service! Love their salsa bar.

Pork tamales

Lots of parking. Excellent customer service. Perfect decor for a taqueria. Lots of indoor seating. Love the self serve salsa and chip bars. Love that they have a hand washing station not inside the bathroom. The tamales were a decent size and came out hot and fresh (though a little drier than I would have liked). This was our first time here and won't be our last.

Birria (goat) plate

This place is pretty good for a quick Mexican meal. They have some interesting offerings such as birria with actual goat, fish plate, and shrimp cocktails. So far I had the goat birria and a chicken burrito, and I enjoyed both. The prices are not bad and portions are generous. Complimentary chips and salsa are included. Their salsas are very tasty, the spicy ones are actually spicy. Food comes out super fast so great for lunch.

quesabirrias tacos

I got 3 quesabirrias and 4 tacos, which came out to $42. The food was well-seasoned and pretty good overall. The quesabirrias had a little cheese on the outer tortilla, but nothing extraordinary. The tacos de pastor and carne asada were decent, just your average tacos. Overall, it's okay--definitely a bit overpriced, and it leans more toward a white-washed flavor profile. Good for those who like that style. Staff were friendly and attentive, few people inside eating, and chill.

Huge quesabirria taco with the consomé to go with it

West Sacramento's newest Mexican eatery! Some might say there's too many but you know what I noticed? They never shut down like other places. That says a lot about what the residents want and enjoy in the area. Came here for a nice lunch with my mother. You order at the front counter and take a number, taqueria style. They give you your drinks and also a small boat and containers for complimentary chips and salsa. Really good chips and salsas. The chips had a great crunch and salted perfectly while each salsa had its own flavor profile from mild to extremely hot lol. The workers here were constantly checking if we needed anything and asked if we liked our food. The answer was YES! They had Spanish music playing in the background as we sat and talked. I went with two crispy tacos combo, asada and pastor as the meats. They left something to be desired but the beans were really good and the rice was my least favorite, it could've been fluffier. My mom went with the two pork tamale combo. These were really good! Masa was tasty and there was a lot of pork in the tamale. We hardly used our forks as we used the tortilla chips to scoop everything up lol. I ended up ordering two quesabirria tacos as well because the table next to me ordered them and they looked delicious. They were full of delicious shredded beef and huge. The consomé was so flavorful. Those two tacos alone were $12. Prices here were reasonable. Def plan to go back and try their mariscos menu and also a wet burrito.

Side of rice
Franny Z.

My rating is just for the torta. I thought it was just okay. My kids liked the side of rice. The salsas were okay too. The guys I ordered burritos for thought they were good but on the smaller size.

Wet burrito, Michoacan enchiladas and birria quesadilla tacos

This place is it. The tucked in the back, hard to find place that is truly everything you wanted and needed it to be. In a time where everything is thrown together and slopped up and overcharged, this is a refreshing change of pace. This place in my mind is authentic, genuine, and homey. Food: home made salsa with so many delicious selections at the salsa bar. Not to mention freshly made tortilla chips too. We got the wet burrito and I got the Michoacan enchiladas and we shared the birria tacos. The enchiladas were so flavorful and tender and everything I expected it to be. I got lengua and al pastor for my choices of meat and it was perfect! She said she burrito was so tender and flavorful as well. And this place was our first place to try the birria tacos and it was amazing! So tender and juicy and paired perfectly with the consume. The service was kind and fast. I could hear the chefs singing in the kitchen, which to me is always a good sign. They also had a huge selection of agua fesca drinks. The ambiance is cute and quaint and just very homey and genuine. This place opened not too long ago, but the quality of food, the pricing of the menu, and the selection of everything really impressed me. This is my Mexican food spot now and I'll won't be going back anywhere else. This place is it. Whether it be for a date, a normal dinner, or just something to satisfy your craving, this place does it all.

Asada, al pastor, and carnitas tacos.

Made an IKEA run this afternoon and stopped by this place for lunch. So glad we did! There are many authentic Mexican cuisine choices to choose from that are not normally found at typical Mexican joints. Such as: 7 Mares, 3 Mares, and Birria caldos actually made with chivo (goat). I sampled their tacos and the carnitas really stood out. Tender and flavorful. They have a chips and salsa bar along with fountain drinks. Service was friendly and the interior is huge. I wish I would've taken a picture of the specialty taco bar set up that they have on weekends only. Homemade tortillas with your choice of filling like chicken con chipotle, steak ranchero, chicharrones, rajas con pollo, and more! Plenty of parking and located right off the highway. Try this place, you will not be disappointed!

Looking to meet up and chat over a couple drinks, I suggested that a friend and I meet at the Mecca Club. When our Lyft driver dropped us off at the establishment (I highly recommend using a ride sharing app when visiting this bar), I honestly couldn't tell if the business was still in operation. The outside sign was not illuminated, and at the time, the two motorcycles parked outside was the only indication of patrons. However, when we opened the back door (it literally felt like entering a secret society club), we were greeted by a friendly employee named Amy, laughter from some folks at the bar, and the sound of tunes coming from the jukebox. We took a seat at the bar, Amy politely requested to see our ID's (this is a silent compliment when you're in your late 30's), and we placed our orders for our first round of margaritas. As Amy concocted our drinks (she really puts love into making each drink), she greeted the patrons that continued to file in. What really stood out about Amy was her ability to not only remember the names of the regular patrons, but also their drink preferences (now that's what I call exceptional customer service). I did not watch Amy make our drinks; therefore, I cannot attest to how many shots she put in each drink. However, I will say that the drinks that are served here are indeed stiff (by no means am I complaining). Hence, why I suggested that you utilize some form of ride sharing if this is your bar of choice. If you're not in the mood to deal with downtown/midtown parking and the increasing prices of cute craft cocktails, I highly recommend checking out Mecca Club...enjoy and please be safe!

I wish they would've stated on the menu that it was only 30mins long. The service fell below what would be the "basic/express" pedi at the usual nail salons in the area. There are no massage chairs and no jetted foot tubs. My tech started with removing my regular polish, trimming and filing and then proceeded to swipe a foot filer once maybe twice on my heels and that's it. That's all you get. Next up, 30 second sugar scrub and then a hot towel. Fresh polish and no lotion massage at all. Also, tech doesn't clean under the nails either. My friend wanted to do French tips with hearts on her finger nails and was told they don't do nail designs. It's below basic service and not worth the price. I will not be returning.

They have a great selection of gin, rum, champagne, and whiskey, and I often lean on the staff for drink suggestions because they're really good at recommending something you might not normally order. A few times now they've pointed me toward a drink that ended up being a hidden gem. I've been here a few times and it's always a great time whether you're catching up with friends or doing a date night. The food is also surprisingly good and pairs well with the cocktails. It is definitely on the pricier side, but that's part of the experience. Also, because the space is small and intimate, reservations fill up quickly and they do require a deposit, which goes toward your final bill. Helpful tip: make a reservation ahead of time and don't be afraid to ask the staff for drink recommendations -- they're excellent at guiding you to something special.
