When this place opened, it was viewed as the holy grail. Boston's only great sneaker spot was Concepts in Cambridge until Bodega came along. I remember walking in and being absolutely blown away, nowadays it has become such a tourist-y and pop culture phemomenon that it has lost it's feeling. I remember the days I could go in and be surrounded by other sneakerheads, nowadays I just see preppy kids with no swagger who heard this was a cool spot. The feeling inside doesn't perpetuate the culture, it isn't the type of place I'd chill for a minute like I would in other boutiques around the city. This is not to downplay the actual store however, the cats inside are cool and it's a great spot to cop tier 0 nike releases. They even got a Jordan account in the last month. Chances are that if you are reading this, you are just some kid who heard the hype. Bodega's "gimmick" was to keep the sneakers in the back for the real heads. So that YOU would not find the place, unfortunately pop culture caught on...and you will find me at Concepts. read more

Its aight... I mean the real novelty of this place is the underground vibe. No sign, tucked away on a small side street, walking through the snapple machine, its kinda gimmicky, but cool the first time. I really didn't find they're sneaker collection all that amazing. Granted I'm no self proclaimed sneakerhead but I think I liked the selection at AWOL better and was also less spendy. Maybe I just had high hopes for Bodega. I mean, its underground/ cult following has just hyped it up so much. I also didn't find people there very friendly. No one approached me and asked me if i needed help. Maybe i was lacking in street cred as i walked in with sandels on... but come on it was freggin 90 degrees out that day Its a cool place to scope out if sneakers are your thing, but i didn't see anything there that blew me away. read more

I was in the market for some new shoes and the Bodega came recommended. This obfuscated speakeasy boutique revealed a pastiche of hip clothing, shoes, and essential odds n' ends for the graffiti rocker. While I ultimately found a great pair of trainers, the apparel choices at the Bodega were somewhat limited to Nike high tops and overpriced tshirts. An oddity was the high and imposing checkout counter. I half expected Rapunzel to look down when I passed my credit card up. All in all, I'm glad I went, but the novelty of the secret entrance wore thin after 5 minutes since that's as much time as you need to peruse everything. Recommended for those with a predilection for mild urban adventure and trendy pullovers. Not recommended if you like window shopping - there are no windows. read more

Hecka TIGHT. This was the highlight of my one year lyfe in Bosstown I heard about Bodega while I was talking with my homegurl Maria Juanita, but I couldn't believe it--a bodega where you walk towards a fake vending machine and the door opens up to a world of shooz, clothes and bumpin booty beats? Wha, Wha? So I went off on a mission to find the spot and get me some nu Nike Cortez (they don't got these O.G. kicks, tho), and maybe a cool hoodie. My only disapointment: there's not a big selection for womyn or ruca's like myself. All the coo kicks were hecka BIG in menz sizes. But I did enjoy the music while I got my window shop on. read more

Cool concept! A friend we were visiting told us about this place - it sounded neat so we adventured. This area of Boston was much different than downtown/Beacon hill area. Hipster vibes. So, you show up and it looks like a old convenience store. I felt cool asking the guy behind the counter "i hear you have some shoes...". We go to the side of the counter and this door auto opens up to this modern, boutiquey, clean shop with shoes, clothing and some accessories. They had some sweet kicks and it was fun to check it out. One of my biggest regrets of living in Boston is not discovering Bodega until a couple months ago. The convenience store gimmick is, in my opinion, the coolest thing I've ever seen in a store in Boston. I also like the Fung Wah reference they got on the walls. Besides the hidden, secret store thing, they got a real nice selection of sneakers. Unfortunately they didn't have this sick pair of Air Max's in my size, but I can't knock them for being popular and having rare shoes (kinda the point of the store). They got a fairly small selection of shirts and hoodies, but you're really there for the shoes. I'd say their shoe selection is better than Karmaloop's. So if you're looking for a hard to find pair of air force ones, dunks, adidas classics or other gear, Bodega is the place to go in Boston. read more

This place is a truly hidden gem. Feels like a secret or members-only hideaway. I visited after hearing about their graphic, colorful tees. While they were funky and all (screenprinted), sizes were far too big for what I was looking for. Could use a more expansive selection on the smaller end of sizing charts. Creative designs though -- I'll have to check back on their stock and offerings every so often. Location is not so cute . . . but adds a little bit to the places overarching mystique. read more

This store is worth 5 stars! I've been to similar store in NYC, SF, London, Sydney and Paris and to be honest they all sell pretty much the same things but none of them have a cool "concept" as Bodega does. If you like Urban trendy fashion boutiques, Bodega is a stop you can't snooze on! read more

What a super awesome place! I was in the market for some shwood sunglasses and found that Bodega was the only store to carry them around Boston. I google street viewed it before I left to get an idea where to go and was thoroughly confused. Okay... So a convenience store sells $250 sunglasses?? I peeked my head in and almost walked out. I LOVED the concept, what a unique shopping experience! Most people give it away in the reviews, but I just say go there and see for yourself. The staff I encountered were nothing but super helpful, polite, and nice. I loved what they had for sale for men, it is geared more toward 20ish guys, so I didn't find much for my 30yr old husband except the sunglasses he wanted, but whatever, we're getting old, I accept it ;) con- parking. You can try and find parking on Mass Ave, but all the other streets are for Back Bay res. read more

Damn, I got some nice kicks at Bodega over the summer. Bodega is great when you are just looking for a new pair of shoes. Unfortunately, they can be a little bit pricey. I waited till they had a huge sale and ended up buying four pairs for only about 200 bucks. I got nice dunks for 75 bucks. I consider that a great deal. Unfortunately, they are priced at 120 without a sale, so it might not be worth it. read more

Unassuming storefront to say the least. Only when you look closely at the window of canned goods do you notice that the cans are of Warhol vintage. Opening the door I immediately thought I was in the wrong store, maybe I had stepped into a rundown convenience store in the Bronx. Then the guy at the desk points you towards the Snapple machine and 'Boom!' Door opens to a super classy sneaker store. Still no smiling though because hipsters don't do that. Despite what other reviews have mentioned, I thought the prices for the kicks on display were fair and petty close--or lower-- than what I'd find elsewhere. Low-key on the outside, but high-end on the inside, Bodega has become one of the top places I take visiting friends from the Bay Area -- especially if they're streetwear savvy. The store has a lot to offer in terms of luxe urban brands, their own Bodega-brand products, and unique shoewear, like some suave Nike Huaraches in a variety of limited edition colors. Bodega's staff are also friendly and willing to answer all questions you might have regarding items, pricing, and what styles the youngin's are rockin' at the moment. My only complaint is that I wish the store carried more in terms of women's clothing and brands. Other than that though, Bodega remains one of the coolest stores in Boston. read more

Do not order online from them. Their customer service team isn't responsive, there isn't a phone number to call, and their online chat is just auto-responses. I finally got a reply from Nick (mentioned in other reviews) and he told me that he has no idea when my order will be shipped. I then asked some more question instead of Nick replying, I got the auto reply again. It's unacceptable to purchase something around the holidays, ask for a ship-date (it's already been 10 days), and to be told they don't know. read more

So, I don't like Snapple... which made surprising me with what lay behind the 'magic door', a little difficult for my friend who was taking me to Bodega my first time. He kept trying to convince me to come check out the selection of Snapple in this tiny... Brooklyn-style Bodega, that I otherwise had no interest in visiting. Finally I agreed to come for a look and the door slid open to expose a rather beautiful shop. This place is basically a sneaker-head'ss dream world: in addition to exclusive sneaks, you will find clothing from local designers, awesome watches and jewelry, and random what-nots. Even if you aren't a sneaker-head, or looking for exclusive wares... go in to check out the art, it will blow your mind. Recently they have been showing works by a guy named Kenji Nakayama whose work (especially after you hear how he does it) is just amazing. In addition to being an awesome shop, the owners and employees are super down-to-earth, despite how darn hip they look. Check it out- you will feel just a little bit cooler even knowing this place exists. Bodega has become a staple ever since... whenever I have guests from out of town, I make sure to take them in and give them a taste of what Boston has to offer. read more

I came here with Frank L. on a dreary Saturday. We were looking for the address, so we didn't even realize that we walked by it. The staff was friendly, and we were given time to browse at our own pace. Beautiful store inside, very nice "shock value" when you first enter the store. Me likes. Awesome lil hidden gem....gotta do your homework to find spots like this. Looks like a convenience store from outside and even when you get inside it's a lil Bodega really... Then bam they slide open the mechanical vending machine drinks door and woila it's sneaker goodness..... Great spot, great service and lots to pick from.... Ask for some of the hidden gems..... I've been trying to buy shoes on their website for probably 2+ years now, anytime they have an exclusive shoe drop. Their site is the biggest joke I've ever seen. I ran websites as a teenager that had more capacity to handle traffic than they do and they're a premium outlet profiting far more than I ever did. I'm sure the expect a ton of traffic, and I'm sure they get an earful on every shoe drop... Because their website SUCKS. Remember the address because if you'll miss it if you're looking for a flashy store front. It's a one of a kind store hidden behind the facade of a run-down corner store, hence the name Bodega. The shoes they carry are all extremely limited lines from big names like Nike, Converse and New Balance, so rare they just have 1 of each size. A must if you're looking for a super rare pair of Air Force Ones or Nike Free 5.0s or the like. Prices are normal msrp also! Their selection of hats and clothing are pricey but also very unique. The style is not for everyone, but if you describe your fashion sense as trendy and urban, you'll be referring to this place as "The Mecca" from now on. read more

I love the concept of this store - I would expect this gimmick in NY but it feels authentic and welcome in Boston. Fun selection of sneakers and ready to wear. I had an idea of what I wanted before coming in, which was helpful since it can seem overwhelming and daunting with the other Uber cool patrons walking around. More than anything I was impressed with the staff working there. They gave good, honest feedback regarding the shoes that we tried on and didn't try to upsell my husband when he asked for candid feedback on a pair of shoes he tried on. My advice for anyone coming in for the first time is to take a look at their website and see what types of shoes you like. Note not everything on the website is available in store, as they maintain three different sets of stock - Boston, LA, and online. We didn't have to worry about hunting to find the entrance to the store - the sliding door was open so we could see into the store. If you are coming for the first time, look for the sliding door in the back of the bodega to the right of the cashier. read more

I have been searching for great sneakers forever. The West Coast just doesn't do 'em up like the East, as much as I hate to admit it. So, when my sister told me that her roommate works at place filled with sweet kicks, I knew that I had to check it out. I haven't been to Boston in a little less than six years, so I had no idea where we were going. We got to this little hole-in-the-wall convenience store, and I thought to myself, "Okay, does K need a snack or something?" Oh. No. It's like a small miracle. I think we're headed for the Snapple machine, then BAM, it slides open, revealing a shiny and hip sneaker ... emporium? I think that's the word I'm looking for. (And by the way, the front is actually a working store, so you can stock up on shoes and toilet paper all in the same go.) The selection is a little one-sided, and you may not always be able to find what you're looking for, because sizes are a bit limited, but the experience was great. The staff was helpful, grabbing the shoes from the basement. Not to mention, I got lucky on my first pair, and I walked away with a sweet new pair of sneakers in which I can strut back to the West Coast. Loved this place, and when I'm back in Boston, I'll have to go back ... can never have too many awesome sneakers after all. read more

Sneakerheads: Well worth checking this shop out. They have a fine selection of unbelievably expensive shoes that I'm sure are pretty rare, etc. Everyone else: This is still worth the visit, particularly if you bring a sneakerhead who doesn't know the "secret" entrance in. I did this once. Very fun experience for me just to see the look on his face. He had previously tried to buy items there from the bodega portion of the place and was aggravated that they always seemed to be out of stuff. I've been a few times and the merch is pretty limited and expensive if you're not big into sneakers. I'm not the target audience for this place and don't pretend to be but, like I said, it's still worth a visit. read more
