    Empanada Guide
    Karen S.

We arrived at noon, when they open and we were the first guests. The owner was super friendly, telling us how the empanadas were made and a little family history. We each had three empanadas and they were all good. We tried the chicken, beef and the onion with mozzarella. I would get any of them again but my favorite was the chicken. There is such a good blend of flavors. The crust is light and flaky and they are baked, not fried. Three was the perfect amount for lunch. They also have a few sandwiches and multiple salads on the menu, but I felt like the focus was the empanadas. I also had the bread pudding for dessert. It was delicious, just the right amount of sweet. The texture is closer to flan than bread puddings I have previously had, but Sylvia, the owner, assured me there was not as much milk as there is in flan. Its really cute inside. There are 4-5 tables and a sofa. They have a great patio outside for warmer weather that has seating for many more people. This would be a great spot to stop during a bike ride along the river. It's only a couple blocks away from the Batavia riverwalk area. They are dog-friendly.

Remember when you found a restaurant with a personable owner (Julianne), fresh food, an interesting selection that expanded your repatoire, was opportunity to learn a bit about another culture and had a cappuccino in a porcelain mug? Here's the place to create a RECENT memory. I've got to go back to try the white Malbec with empanadas. We couldn't sample them all, or could we? We will be back for food pics and more tastes of Argentina. Good option for Argentinian desserts and espresso. Take out avaliable though I assume cappaccino will be in paper cup!

We really love the sweet cozy spot in downtown Batavia. They even have a beautiful outdoor patio with super comfortable chairs, which is hard to find in an outdoor seating area they allow you didn't even bring your dogs. You can sit outside with a nice glass of wine. The empanadas are a perfect size to try multiple flavors. They're about the size of a deck of cards. They really want you to try their flavors from Argentina.

On our way to Saint Charles for the Scarecrow fest weekend and decided to stop by this beautiful little cafe off of Batavia. First of all, the Cafe owner was absolutely amazing who also serviced us. She was so friendly and wonderful. We sat outside on this beautiful sunny 70° temperature and it was just a great day with adorable seating and relaxing atmosphere. We ordered the Lentils Salad with their homemade mayo and chimichurri dressing, 2 spinach and cheese empanadas, ham and cheese empanadas and a chocolate dipped cookie cake with dulce de Leche and everything was exceptional. It took a little longer but that is to be expected for freshly made food! The empanadas was soooo crispy and flavorful and the lentil salad was delicious as well. My kid said the cookie cake was absolutely the best and his jam and cheese empanadas was hot and delicious. What is not to love? Great service, delicious food, wonderful atmosphere on a pleasant October day!

I've heard such good things about Bocaditos (both their empanadas and amazing owner) and can now join the host of the positive reviews. The hours are limited which had made it difficult to visit but I finally found a time that worked. We arrived right when they opened on Friday for lunch and the owner greeted us and welcomed us inside. The owner is so sweet and talkative. She provided great recommendations and loved to chat about how Bocaditos came to be. The patio area looked super comfy and had plenty of covered seating options. There were also a few tables inside which is where we sat. At the time we visited, there was one other group dining in but a few people picked up some items to-go. The empanada guide is super helpful! Basically, to keep all the variations straight, they seal them with different designs. I tried the chicken, spinach, and the onion & mozzarella empanadas which were all amazing! The crust was so soft and fresh and the filling to crust ratio was perfect. Overall they are much lighter than I was used to which was great since I didn't feel super "heavy" or too full afterwards. I had three which seemed like the perfect amount for a light lunch. They also have some salad options which would pair well with the empanadas for a more balanced meal. I also have to give a shoutout to the water glasses because they were so cute.

Lovely owner, craveable food and a delicious cappuccino. Went in to try an empanada and a coffee and - after I indulged - also left with a dozen frozen empanadas and two containers of the best chimichuri sauce I intend to put on everything. The owner carefully packed the frozen empanadas in a freezer bag for me as she knew I had a long drive. Charming little place, I would definitely come back if I was in the area!

Cozy, relaxing atmosphere, where the owners cook and serve the food. You feel like a guest in their home. Not spicy hot, but very flavorful, superbly seasoned meat empanadas and vegetable empanadas. I tried 6 flavors and honestly didn't have a favorite. They were all sublime. The price was criminally low. 3 for $10. The dough was cooked to perfection. The owner spared a few minutes to chat with me while I dined alone on a soft, plush chair.

They had a very nice bread server with four individual oval French loaves with very tasty butter. We tried the provoleta with peppers because we like that a lot in Argentina, but this was nothing like it and I guess that was to be expected. There they have a bunch of drier version of provolone and they grill it directly on the grill grates and it doesn't really melt too much. This tasted like standard provolone cheese and it was melted in a bowl. It was tasty, and unfortunately they probably can't get the Argentinian version of the cheese they would need to do it correctly. Our friends got the beef brochette with asparagus and the outside skirt steak and both were fabulous. Well seasoned and grilled and tender. My husband and I got the 2 pound stuffed fillet! It supposedly had ham in the filling but I couldn't taste it or see it anywhere. Unfortunately it had a really strongly flavored sauce along with the portobello mushrooms. We expected something with fewer herbs, which kind of overpowered the beef. It's a shame because the way they described it on the menu is not what came out. It wasn't bad. It just wasn't what we were expecting and unfortunately, the beef flavor was hard to discern because of all of the herbs in the dark brown sauce. We brought our own wine and they didn't even have a corkage fee, which was amazing! We saw other plates go by with copious amounts of tomatoes and onions on salads and the filet mignon platter, it seemed like it was three or four pieces of fillet it had to be nearly a pound for one serving. The prices are pretty steep for the beef and they do charge $10 for sharing, however it might be worth just getting one of the larger plates and spending the 10 bucks to share as opposed to getting an entrée each and taking home lots of food which we did.

The warm table bread and butter was pretty good so it was an effort to keep from eating too much and ruining our appetite. We split a chicken empanada to start which was really good, especially with the chimichurri sauce. For mains, we split the parillada para dos - a large meat platter meant for two. It was came with a little house salad and was a super good deal with all the meat they gave you (we ended up with lunch the next day, too!) The best part of the dish was the short ribs. Super soft and sort of fatty tasting, but not in a gross way, in a really yummy way. We also really liked the chorizo sausage. The flap tastes good, but was a little tougher than the other meat. The beef sweetbread and blood sausage were different, a little bit of an odd texture, but still good.

These HIT!!!! These are some of THE BEST empanadas I've ever had!!! It's pretty hidden and pickup only. Total hidden gem vibes! My husband and I ordered a whole bunch! Hubby got 2 picadillo, 1 chicken pot pie, 1 Philly, 1 Argentinian chicken, I got 2 Argentinian beef, 1 chicken pot pie, 1 Philly, and 1 spinach and feta - we split the Brie bacon and cheese special one. We couldn't finish them all (so excited for leftovers tomorrow), but my husband loved his and I was literally dancing after every bite. The flaaaavors!!! My goodness they just pop! The Argentinian beef brought me so much comfort. My mother in law is from Argentina so I was curious how these would be! Every single bite was packed with flavor! The chicken pot pie was literal comfort food!!! A handheld pot pie? Yes PLEASE! They nailed these flavors! The spinach and feta was ridiculously delicious and the Brie bacon fig was the best combo of sweet and savory. I tried all of the empanadas, perhaps my favorites are the Argentinian beef, chicken curry, and Somosa - but all are yummy. The sauces are also tasty, I usually have left over to use them with something else during the week. I like the Avocado Lime Cilantro, Spicy Chimichurri, and Sriracha Aioli. This time we also had the Blackberry Hoisin Ginger which is amazing. I would not have it with empanadas, bit my friend said it was great pairing for the Mac & Cheese one. I had it with my croissant the next morning.

I came here after seeing the other reviews of the Deli and because of my love of empanadas. They have them here in a variety of sweet and savory flavors. The day I stopped in they had spinach, mushroom, ham & cheese, chicken, ground beef, cheese & onion, and on the sweet side quince, sweet potato, and caramel. As much as I wanted to try them all I decided to "just" go with spinach, mushroom, ham & cheese, chicken and the quince for dessert. The crust on the savory empanadas were crispy, flaky and buttery. All of the fillings were super flavorful. I'm only a recent convert to mushroom-eating, and the mushroom empanada was my favorite. I think it was the most flavorful of all of the ones I ate and I actually forgot that I was actually eating mushrooms! The quince empanada had a little thicker/harder shell, and had a quince jelly-like filling. It was very heavy but pretty good. Not too sweet. At a little less than $2 a pop, they're the perfect snack.
