A hidden gem in Montgomery located directly next to Atrévete Confections. Grumpy Gaucho specializes in homemade empanadas, churros, and a few different sandwiches. The owner is incredibly kind and is passionate about his creations. We went in for the second time to order some frozen empanadas and two chocolate churros to go, and while we were waiting, he gave us two buffalo chicken empanadas because he ''made too many". Not only was this kind, the empanadas were absolutely incredible. I really love that you can dine in and order them fresh, or get them frozen to enjoy later in the week. The dining area is small but clean. Since these are pretty small bites the need for space isn't really a problem. You never know what you might get with a food truck, so my friend and I were pleasantly surprised with empanadas and churros from The Grumpy Gaucho! I got the chicken pesto and the bbq pork, she got the chicken pesto and the spinach ricotta. I thought the bbq pork was the better of mine (very flavorful, savory and saucy); the chicken pesto was tasty but the filling was a bit dry. By comparison, she said she preferred the chicken pesto. They were doing an event at the corporate center today and this was one of the giveaways. It was two empanadas. I have the beef traditional and the chicken pesto. Beef traditional was tastier than the chicken pesto. Either way, they were savoring enough that it was effectively in my lunch this afternoon. Since I didn't really pay attention to price, I couldn't weigh in on that versus the amount of food and quality. Since this was an event, I suspect that they fried all of these earlier in the day so that they can be prepared to hand out empanadas at speed. First of all, Grumpy Gaucho is one of the cutest names ever. This is a "MUST try" even if you've never had empanada before. During this pandemic I'm trying to support local businesses. When my friend told me that Grumpy Gaucho was doing deliveries in my town I jumped at the opportunity to order some! In the past I've enjoyed visiting at farmers markets. I purchased a variety of different empanadas and they all came frozen with cooking instructions. Each empanada has a number on the edge to distinguish what type it is (so don't worry when they mix them in the bag). I just made some for lunch today and they're almost as good as they are from the truck itself. I would definitely recommend having them deliver during the pandemic or visiting the food truck once they're back out there! One suggestion I have is to include some of your breakfast empanadas on the menu at the farmers markets. read more

I went here for the first time today for lunch. Upon entering you are greeted warmly as you walk in and from there the experience continues to be warm and welcoming. They had a few specials regarding the empanadas and I went with the Malbec Beef and the Criolla. They are made to order and exceptional. Hot, crispy and beautifully tender meat. They are served with a fresh chimichurri on the side. The empandas are so good and the service is amazing. In search for saltenas I came across Grumpy Gaucho. Saltenas they do not have but great empanadas they do. I found them at Plainfield farmers market (Lockport & 59, Sat 8am-1pm). They don't have a store but run a commercial kitchen. Empanadas are basically stuffed pastries, and they have quite a few variety here. Cost $2, they are not large. Favorites were spinach n ricotta and traditional beef. Beef empanada I think had ground beef, olives, and potato, very good. Others in the family also liked the BBQ pork. Chicken pesto was ok, not as flavorful as others, never been a fan of shredded chicken. They sell sauces too, $7 frozen. The price seemed too steep, but still ended up buying the chimichurri sauce. Sucker for that stuff! Chimichurri did not live up to my expectations, it was ok, prefer it less coarse. From the samples there, the Provencel and lime cilantro jalapeño were the best. Delicious! We ordered the Beef Criolla, Chicken Pesto, and Ham and Cheese Empanadas. They were all great. We also got the Choripan, which we made on the grill. All the food was delicious! WoW! These Empañadas are simply the best! During the 2017 Holiday Season, my wife and I first came across these delicacies when we stopped @ the Grumpy Gaucho Food Truck while shopping @ The Farmhouse Craft Event in Naperville. We sampled one Empañada each, had to go back for seconds. Even that was not enough. We purchased a few more to take home! We were also still in the planning stages for our Annual Holiday Party . . . And the more we thought about it, the more we knew we had found the answer for our menu. I contact Grumpy Gaucho through their online contact info - And Jennifer was more than willing to work with us on our order. With less than a week's notice, she coordinated the Empañada Menu for our event. We ordered 90 Empañadas - A selection of the following: Steak (Fabulous) Chicken Pesto (Yummy) BBQ Pork (Yeah Baby) Spinach & Ricotta (So Creamy) Buffalo Chicken (Amazing) Apple (We had to have Dessert) We also ordered their special sauces: Chimichurri (Classic) Cilantro Jalapeño (Super Delicious) Provenzal (Delish) Pesto (Momma'd be Jealous) Again, under what I'd consider a tight timeline, Nestor prepared our special request (Onion and Garlic Allegies Accomodated). I had planned to meet Jennifer & Nestor @ their production facility as they were working hard on this event for me . . . And what happened next? Jennifer understood some of my timing challenges and offered to deliver the entire order to our home! Heated! Ready-to-Ear! The best baked Argentinian empanadas! Usually food trucks are very pricey but these guys take care of their customers. My favorites are the Beef traditional, BBQ Pulled Pork, Beef Criolla and the chorizo. The Chimmichurri sauce is great too. We tried all 6 empanadas w/ chimichurri sauce. They were all pretty good. In order, our favorites were Beef Criolla, BBQ Pork, Chix pesto. The traditional beef was kinda different flavors- it was OK. The spinach/ricotta was good too. The crust is flaky like a croissant. And you really need the chimichurri sauce! I would definitely get 2 criollas. Yummmmm! read more

We have had The Grumpy Gaucho's Empanadas many times over the last 2 years and they are the best you can find! We discovered them at the Historic Plainfield Farmers Market in 2013 and missed them when they were gone in 2014. This summer they returned and the Empanadas are as good as ever! They have many different flavors, something for everyone! My favorites are apple and creamed corn. My husband likes the traditional and chorizo and egg. They had a corned beef filled for "half way to St Patrick's Day". We also get the beef, ham and cheese, spinach and ricotta, chicken pesto...they are all fantastic. As for their sauces, we have only purchased the chimichurri. We have tried store bought chimichurri and have attempted to make our own. Nothing has come close to the great flavor of the Grumpy Gaucho's. They are a great asset to the area and I know that anyone who tried them will like them! One last comment is the owners are so kind and friendly. They always remember us when we see them and always have a kind word. read more
