What a random but memorable stop! We were heading back to the LA area from Pismo Beach, and unfortunately due to the holiday season a lot of the bakeries in the area were closed. But what's a holiday morning without some bread to start the day? My dad had Bob's Well Bread saved on his Google years ago, so we decided to stop by (we also stopped by the site that was NOT the same one he saved on his account, and there was a lot of confusion initially). But DANG. It's like we stepped into the Wild Wild West and suddenly there was a poppin' bakery in the middle of nowhere. We thought it would just be a quick stop, but given how long the line was it took us more than an hour for the pitstop--this is just to describe to you how popular this place is, even on a weekday! There were also these super cute avocado toast and croissant-shaped dog toys on sale. Croissant: what a unit of a croissant, this thing is Massive. And tasty too, it was lightly crispy on the outside and full of buttery softness on the inside. Eggs in a Jar: I think I have a thing against savory purple foods, but if I closed my eyes it wasn't that bad. The eggs and potato just kind of formed this savory mush that was satisfying to poke the bread spears into, and the lardon added a nice salty flavor I really wanted the brie and fig sandwich, but they had run out, so I got the turkey and cheese. It was okay, I think I was expecting it to be turkey ham rather than actual pieces of turkey. Oatmeal raisin cookie was a on the sweet side, but the sugar helped to caramelize the edges and make them nice and crispy. I think it also helped to keep the center moist and decadent. Olive bread: This. This was the winner. It was absolutely speckled with olives and has such a beautiful flavor profile. It goes well with butter or olive oil, we're burning through the loaf quite quickly. If you ever find yourself in the Los Alamos area this is a spot you shouldn't miss! read more

One of the best breakfast spots on the central coast. Huevos rancheros was very good but the gravlax platter is even better. Coffee is also exceptional. It gets busy and can take a while standing in line so you might want to order online ahead of time. Small indoor dining area but they have a nice larger outdoor patio area with plenty of tables. Not that clean, flies and rough areas to eat. It use to be more inviting. Bread and food good. Coffee...meh. Staff nice. Minimum wage staff working for tips that are taxed by owner. Heavily relying on tips. Warning! Green tarp in front is often loose and flies in the wind. Metal clips and base bar will really damage car if you drive up. No signs or attempts to manage this dangerous issue. We were advised Bob had been told many times and doesn't care. We left with damages across hood and quickly learned that while staff felt bad, nothing was going to change. Fellow customers shared that they loved food, but couldn't stand Bob at all. Apparently, he's all about Bob. We didn't bother following through with contacting Bob about the physical damage to our car. It was clear it wasn't worth it. $75 for lunch and likely $350 for the body work on hood. read more

I've been going to Bob's for years, but now I'm done. Cinnamon bun seemed stale @ hard. I asked for them to heat it, but they don't do that. I looked around and biscuits were left 1/2 eaten on other people's plates. Don't you usually gobble up a good biscuit? My favorite avocado toast was just ok. We bought an olive fougasse bread and a bunch of pastries. Each pastry was absolutely delicious but the real star was the fougasse- crisp crust, tender crumb and absolutely stuffed with all kinds of olives - it was the star of our charcuterie board! Just wish we lived closer. read more

I always stop here on my way out of Santa Barbara. My usual go-to is the sandwich on the demi baguettes from the cold case - perfect for a quick grab-and-go meal while driving and that's also delicious. My mom and I started coming to Bob's a while ago when I would tag along on her trips to visit patients for work. Once we moved closer to the area, we were happy to know a trip for an egg-in-a-frame #1 would only be a hop and a skip away. The egg-in-a-frame is one of those things that you just have to try, it's so good. It helped me discover my love for roasted tomatoes. It seems like a relatively simple dish but it's so good and full of flavor. There's no doubt about which meal we'll order, it's usually what we'll order in addition that is the real question. Today we got an egg in a jar without the bacon lardons (I don't eat red meat). It was also very good. We would scoop some out, put it on the pieces of bread it came with, and eat it that way. For an appetizer before the meals, my mom and I shared a plain croissant which I dipped into my cafe au lait and she dipped into her caffe latte. It was the perfect start to our day. My mom is also very keen on the caneles. If you want to try some breakfast or lunch here, you won't be disappointed! Just be warned that the line can be a bit long at times. This is a must if and when you are in Los Alamos! They make their bread daily and have breakfast offerings. Everything is delicious! You cannot go wrong with any option you pick. They do get busy and you will often have to wait in line, but trust me that it will be worth it. The restaurant itself is quaint but they have a good amount of seating including the outdoor patio. Bob knows how to make bread. We dropped in for a late lunch after a mid-morning wine tasting in the hills. We ordered avocado toast and egg in a jar. We also picked up some English muffins and biscuits for later. My husband really enjoyed his avocado toast. So much that he wants to start making it at home. The egg in a jar was a great way to soak up all the wine. The biscuits were quite good...the first time a black pepper biscuit has ever actually tasted like black pepper to me. The English muffins toasted up just great a couple of days later with butter from France. Service was quick and easy. We dropped by Bob's Well Bread on the way down to Solvang this time, as I wanted a wider selection of goodies. I was rewarded with a goodly array of tempting treats, both sweet and savory. I went for the cinnamon roll, layers of crispy buttery melt-in-your mouth goodness and a classic Pain au Chocolat. The Croissant lived up to my memory of its lightness and the cinnamon roll brought new heights of delight with its rich cinnamon spice. We also went away with a large loaf of raison bread, which has been mysteriously disappearing every time one of us goes into the kitchen. Haven't visited here in several years and this is my first review. This place has incredible food and baked goods. We had the Cobb salad and the muffaleta sandwich. The Cobb salad was outstanding and the muffaleta was delicious, now I lived in New Orleans for 4 years so I know what a real muffaleta is and this sandwich was not authentic but it was a great interpretation. The gardrnier was very good and a little spicy. Throughly enjoyed it. It is one those places where you order and pay in advance but the ambiance was kind of rustic. Bob's Well Bread is my new favorite bakery and coffee shop. Driving back to LA from SLO, I was told as a sourdough fan, I had to try theirs and I definitely wasn't disappointed. I try not to eat bread too often but when I do, I make it count with high quality bread like there's. I also ordered an Iced Chai Latte with oat milk. It was probably the best I've ever had. The inside is super adorable and their outside patio is cute and great for a morning coffee or brunch. Lastly, the service here is AMAZING. They're all so nice and welcoming, it would really seem like the folks I interacted with actually enjoy going to work every morning. A+ rating from me. read more

We spent the day in los alamos and this was the place that my wife really wanted to try. We came around 11:15 and it was busy! I think like 4 groups in front of us but took a solid 30 mins to get to the counter to order. Everyone was friendly and order was quick to arrive. Overall I would say service was really good and quick, once you get the order in. I grabbed shaken vanilla iced latte and it was just ok. Not sure if coffee is their thing but it fell flat. No real vanilla flavor and it was just ok. Mushroom toast- so the reason for the 4 star review is this dish. Not sure what it is about mushroom named plates but they seem to lack mushrooms. I wanted a lot more mushroom flavor out of this. One biscuit had a decent amount of shrooms and the other had like a couple only. Bacon was great, biscuit was great but the overwhelming flavor was the sherry vinegar. I wish it had been more subtle and there had been more mushroom flavor but not bad. Overall the place is clean, friendly and the outdoor are is nice to sit down at. Definitely recommend coming here for a good breakfast. read more

Their brisket sandwich special was so good on Thursday, I had to come back to try it again on Sunday. Wifey had the biscuit (to die for) and eggs on day 1, and then switched it up with a generous portion of Raisin Challah French Toast. Super tasty, but a bit dry and sadly short on the scrumptious syrup. Don't expect quick service as they get swamped, especially on weekends. Also do not ask for substitutions or they will frown and point to the fine-print on the menu where it says: "we will politely decline substitutions". I get it. Otherwise, a friendly cashier on Sunday and clearly hard-working staff, but it seemed like the AC wasn't keeping up on a relatively mild 80-degree day. I felt bad for the staff. We stopped here for our first time for breakfast today. There was a line about six deep at the counter, waiting to order at 9:30 AM. We moved along steadily and they were efficient in taking our order and then delivering our food in a timely manner. We had a chocolate croissant, egg in a frame number one and the bagel with salmon. This time we ordered Olive Sourdough but were given something wonderful with no olives by mistake, probably whole grain wheat sourdough. Before you visit, I recommend reading some customer reviews, especially the one and two star reviews. These contain themes and comments that are consistent across a range of customers. Service-related problems are staggeringly frequent, and there are some disturbing notes related to food quality. My review is based on my first visit, August 02, 2024, and is limited to just a few comments--both of which reflect a common theme in nearly every one- and two-starred reviews. Ponderously slow counter service can certainly be improved; there's some problem related to the execution of the transaction that might be store-related or customer related. Other reviews noted extreme wait times. Apparently Bob's does not offer to reheat pastries at a customer's request. You should know this before you cross the threshold (see multiple reviews to this effect). Bread. If you want some really good mastication practice, this is your baker. The results here, however, do not reflect French baking. Due to a clear miscue in dough preparation, someone has decided that bread dough requires extensive working to build really strong gluten, with the result that eating Bob's version of an épi is a profoundly challenging physical exercise. Tough through and through, with no similarity to its French cousins. More than several customers noted the same problem with other breads. Boxy, ad hoc building housing Bob's Well Bread Bakery. Outdoor bread oven seems to be a show of authenticity like a huge smoker in front of a bbq joint. As soon as you pass through its portal, you run into the order counter- display case featuring the pastries du jour. I got there at 3:30pm since I had a sparkling wine tasting at Riverbench, and most of the goods like Sticky Bun, Kouign Amann, Pain au Chocolat had sold out since closing is at 4pm. My bad....The early bird gets the worm. 1) The only mille feuille pastry was stuffed with savory mushroom & spinach. It looked huge but is mostly pockets of air. The ultra thin top layer is crispy with scents of sweet butter & chopped, light scattering of fragrant rosemary leaves. Inside is moister, holding a little pocket of sautéed rather unexciting spinach & slIced mushroom. The filling to bread ratio is low so that you eat way more bland pastry. At home, I had some Steak au Poivre left over from the excellent 5 course menu at nearby Bell's so I stuffed some into the puffy pastry along w/ chopped onion & homemade garlicky, salty, fermented cauliflower Kim Chi to round out the flavours.   2) The Centennial Loaf looks monumental in a rustic sort of way....ultra heavy, seething with 7 non-gluten whole seeds throughout the entire loaf not only on its outside. This "bread" seems  almost "paleolithic" which refers to foods eaten before the Neolithic agricultural revolution around 10,000 bce. Cutting a slice shows: Oats, flax, chia, pumpkin, sunflower, almonds, psyllium husks, maple syrup, olive oil, sea salt. The clerk told me the all whole seed mixture is held together with a chia seed flour matrix. Baked lightly, moist, nutty, mildly fibrous, softly chewy, stick to your ribs wholesomeness. Strangely, for me, the more I chewed, I felt a slight, not unpleasant sliminess from the Chia seeds. This loaf is an exercise in sussing out subtle, nuanced flavours & textures.  This loaf would be nirvana for vegans, or whole food enthusiasts. Forgot to ask if the grains and other ingredients are organic which would place this into manna status.  It's bland so toasting it, spreading Avocado Flower honey, fig jam, butter or bacon, ham, mayonnaise, fried egg, etc. would enhance the experience for those not into vegan existence. Server said the inspiration for this complex, esoteric "bread" was from Tartine in San Francisco.  This is the most unusual "bread" that I have ever eaten. It must be labour intensive which is reflected in its price.  4- stars read more

My wife and I popped off the 101 to the bakery to bring something with us to our Aunt and Uncle's house. It is maybe a 1/4 mile from the freeway and easy to get to. Don't try and be efficient and get gas at this exit though as it was super pricey. Arriving about an hour before closing meant very slim pickings. We were able to get a yummy baguette for dinner and split a salami sandwich on a mini baguette. There is a shady spot next door with tables to enjoy your bread and also wine which they sell if so inclined. We will hit them again on our way back down to LA in the morning hours for hopefully more options. read more

Unfortunately, they were very understaffed and our Togo order of just one entre of eggs Benedict took 45+ mins! No staff here informed us of the wait or that they were understaffed. We wouldn't have ordered if we knew it was going to take this long. It is frustrating when you spend a whole hour waiting for one Togo meal. I wouldn't recommend coming here if you're in a rush. The secret is out. The line is out the door on weekends do plan accordingly. Lovely outdoor seating amongst a garden and grape vines. Sit under the old oak tree. Popular items sell out early. We were in line a bit over half hour and the cinnamon morning bum and chocolate babka were sold out. The chocolate almond croissant was no delectable treat with a generous dollop of the gooey almond filling accented with dark chocolate and a crunchy shell.
