Halibut Oscar with mashed potatoes and asparagus
Phoenix A.

What went well? EVERYTHING! Came here for a few reasons, 1) to spend time with family, 2) to spend time with said family trying out a restaurant that no one in our party had been to yet, and 3) to celebrate the birthday of someone in our party. We made Saturday dinner reservations through OpenTable and were met with a most welcoming greeting by Vee. We were taken great of by our server Bruno and the rest of the attentive staff. Loved that the centerpiece of our table was a jar of pickled cucumbers and peppers available for us to partake in along with our bread and butter. With that I indulged in a Chopin martini up with bleu cheese stuffed olives. Libations were enjoyed with our appetizer pick of tuna tartare (grade A tuna, sesame oil, Hawaiian sea salt, and Sriracha) - deliciousness! For my entree I went against the steak consensus at our table and ordered the special, halibut served Oscar style with mashed potatoes and asparagus. No "regerts" whatsoever, all very tasty and flavorful. Also went against pairing rules and shared a bottle of merlot from my favorite brand, Frog's Leap (although I would have ordered the cab except that birthday boy got to choose). To close out our meal we shared the complimentary birthday dessert, a very dense chocolate cake, the Nilla wafer-crusted key lime pie, refreshingly yummy, and a rich crème brûlée. Our experience met the high expectations of our extremely critical crew - an ex server, a curmudgeon-y carnivore, a guest who makes neophyte servers cry (Bruno is a grown man so I think he would have been ok either way), a weekend warrior Iron Chef type, a whole table of wine snobs save for the designated driver. Lit with distant views of the golf course, the dining room has an intimate feel with high-backed chairs, rich cellar-like wood decor, acoustics that allow you to hear your table's conversations. Acoustics is a critical point for me because if voices are bouncing all over the restaurant and you can only hear that one dude who is not even sitting next to you, forget it. I said that the staff was attentive but not helicoptering. All of us would return here again for a special occasion. Bob's had been recommended to us by our parents and particularly discerning foodies. They were not wrong!

Came here for fancy steak dinner and heard lots of great things about this restaurant. I would say that the food is ok for the hefty price. I would have hoped for something spectacular for the overall cost of the menu items. Overall I think it was a very average steak dinner. The carrots are huge! The service was great however. The ambiance is golf clubesque, people were dressed in a range of dressed up.

I really wanted to like this place, I read the reviews and mostly they're very good. It was a special night and my wife and I went to celebrate. We arrived early so we had a drink at the bar, excellent drink. There was a lady beside me who had ordered the surf and turf and it looked awesome. So I felt that would be my meal. My wife had the tuna tartare and I had thick bacon to start. I blame myself for asking for it "a little" crispy. Her tartare was actually poke and not tartare and my bacon was well overcooked. For our mains she ordered duck breast (medium) and I ordered surf and turf (medium rare). I guess they had some issues with the meals as they brought us a bowl of lobster bisque each because it was taking so long. The bisque was delicious. When the meals came we were both disappointed. Hers was bland and was very light in the cherry sauce and her potatoes were substandard at best. My meal was not 2 3oz filets and a 6 oz lobster tail but more of 1 4 or 5 oz filet and a 4 oz lobster tail, (see pics). My potatoes were good. I could have forgiven this but the steak had a very strong chemical taste, like when you grill on charcoal and use fluid but put meat on too soon. Perhaps they used a butane torch to sear my steak? I don't know but I do know it wasn't anywhere near the best steak in town. Desert was very good. The only reason this is a 3 star and not less is the staff. They were excellent. The place itself is a nice place and comfortable seating and you didn't have to speak loud to be heard. I can understand why some give this place high marks because the lady's meal looked awesome, just like a picture they'd use to advertise. Mine wasn't good, lobster was about 1/2 the size of hers. The GM, a very nice lady, bragged this was the best steak house around but I've been to Flemings, The Keg, and others and this didn't come close to the level of expectation you have for a $100 steak.

NY Strip

From service to food, this is definitely a 5 star experience! Nicole was an excellent bartender with great dinner recommendations. Craft cocktails from their menu are the way to start the evening. The scallops appetizer paired with their thick cut bacon was decadent. All of their steaks are Prime - I haven't seen this anywhere in Tucson. NY Strip was delicious along with the accompaniments - carrots and potatoes. Crème brûlée for dessert was the perfect way to end the evening. Tom was the manager and his hospitality was first class. I can't wait to come back!

LOVE coming to Bob's for special occasions! We celebrated my husband's 40th with our best friends and the food, service, and ambiance was spectacular. We shared the crab cakes to start and then led into salads. Everyone loved their ribeye and filet steaks and the carrot is always a plus. They treated us to carrot cake and it was unmatched! Highly recommend for special occasions or a romantic dining experience.

Prime Ribeye and Bob's carrot

Absolutely flawless dinner. Do not skip this restaurant! I got the Prime Ribeye and it was the best steak I've had in the last ten years. Mom got the rack of lamb, cut lollipop style, and she said it was the best in her life. My wife got the halibut special, Oscar-style, and it was "fabulous, wonderful, and killer." No problem eating gluten free, just skip the gravy on the steak. The cream spinach and the cream corn are both gluten-free. Mom got the Upshot white wine, which she was thrilled with. Very balanced. Dinner was the same price as a meal at Flemings in the Bay Area, and we considered this meal superior to both Flemings and Mastro's. Don't miss the pickled cucumber and peppers in the middle of the table when you sit down. Great fun! Service was also excellent and the room allowed easy conversations. Reservations are a must!

Ask the Community - Bob's Steak & Chop House

Do they have a dress code?

It's recommended to where nicer attire at Bob's, but it isn't required, to my knowledge.

Their menu sounds fantastic; can anyone elaborate on the pricing? The menu appears devoid of any pricing.

Price is higher end but worth every cent! :)

We sat on a high table so we didn't get to be served by the robot but that's ok because Nayeli (I think that was our bar server) did an excellent job taking care of us. My first option was to try the fish, but when I heard what type of fish they were using, I kindly declined. Opted for the calamari with a side salad with ranch I'm a settle at the calamari was good. It was nice and fresh and hot, but the salad was disgusting. I asked for ranch and they put some type of dressing which turns out to be dressing for coleslaw. I advised my waitress to her response was that's the first time I heard someone not lagging it. Interesting didn't offer to switch it out for a plain salad or to switch it for french fries especially since I paid extra to get a salad.. At our table, we also have the chicken strips which is plentiful. It's enough to feed the entire table in fact, so lots of leftovers of that that was also good because it was fresh and hot. My son went for the combo with the snow, crab legs, shrimp, potatoes, and corn. He also said it was delicious, but I don't believe I'll come back. It's unfortunate cause I really did wanna like this place, but without being offered a substitute or the exact same salad minus the dressing that was placed on it that did not taste very good at all. It was sour. For the cost of their food, I'd rather spend my money elsewhere

Our sever was prompt and very attentive. We order a zero proof drink (the Sunset on Sentinel) and the NA beer they had available. We skipped right to the main course since we had a quick turnaround. I went with the beef short rib ravioli and my husband had the fish and chips. We enjoyed some complimentary bread and oil as a little app before dinner came out. The ravioli was so flavorful (maybe a tiny bit too much cream sauce on the plate) - it was delicious. The fish came out crispy and perfectly battered, and flaky and moist inside. We would definitely come back next time we're in town and spend a little more time enjoying a full meal. We had a great experience.

We have been here twice in a few weeks because this is our new favorite Sushi restaurant…read more The restaurant is clean and has a simple style. The staff are very friendly. The amount of sushi you get compared to cost makes it very affordable. The plating is amazing as you can see in the photos. We opted for the combos which come with several pieces of sushi and some come with sashimi as well and rolls. The cuts of sushi were large and fresh. There was wasabi and ginger if you enjoy those. The rolls were creative and delicious. Our favorite was Ni Bistro roll followed by the Emerald. The sushi"wich" was very creative and looked like a sandwich. The Ni Bistro was full of flavor and had a lot of pieces. Overall, we highly recommend this new find on the Northwest side!

Surprisingly bad. I ordered the chicken and pineapple fried rice and a spicy tuna roll…read more Both were the worst I've had. The spicy tuna roll was especially strange - it had no flavor. I didn't know what I was eating. Eventually I could pick up some spiciness, but it was subtle. It was so bland and mushy, I wasn't even sure I was eating tuna. At one point I pulled a piece of the roll apart to take a closer look. I couldn't tell if it was tuna or not - I assume they use some kind of filler ingredients in addition to tuna (maybe that's normal for spicy tuna rolls, but they normally taste much better than this). The fried rice was the worst I've had, though still edible. The pineapple was strange in that it didn't taste like pineapple - I guess it wasn't ripe yet. So no pineapple flavor in the pineapple fried rice. Beyond that, the dish was bland. The unfortunate reality is that Tucson has low standards for Asian food, and shockingly bad places can stick around for years. Some of you remember Yokohama Rice Bowl, a local fast food chain, which was awful, and immediately displaced when Panda Express arrived, which is 10x better... It's too bad that Ni's isn't trying to do something great.

I ordered the HH cod tacos with slaw, avocado lime sauce, and salsa. They were so good!! The blend of the fresh fish with the slaw....YUMMY. The fish was perfectly cooked. Crisp and not greasy, and so flavorful. I wondered why they delivered a bunch of napkins and ....a few bites in I realized. We had to try the deep fried pickles (excellent, they are spears not chips), but I had to leave most of my fries behind. Also be aware that the sound level can be pretty high making it hard to carry on a conversation without shouting. Service was snappy and efficient - our drinks were kept full. Atmosphere is bar-like with a see-through kitchen. My wife had the fish & chips - excellent. I had the Captain's platter which is a little bit of everything. The shrimp were to die for. The one downside is everything came fried in the same batter & oil, so everything starts to kinda taste the same. We'll be back the next time we get a craving for deep-fried seafood!
