Very disappointed! I took my truck in 5 times in one month to get the engine check light addressed and to get the smog check done. Not only was nothing done, they never once called me for anything. I had to call to see if they got around to my truck and the answer was "we have a lot of vehicles here" or "we'll try". I made appointments too and still nothing got done. I dropped the truck off on a Wednesday and picked it up on Friday...nothing done! I had to call to ask if anything had been done and the typical response was given to me.The part that really bothers me is that I'm a repeat customer who has been there several times in the past and always has great things to say about Bobs Quality. Not this time! Bobs Quality has totally failed me and caused me to waste my personal time. Now my registration is about to expire and I'm going to have to pay an extra charge on that! You bet I'm blaming Bobs Quality on that! I had a whole month for them to fix the engine and smog the truck and I believed they could and would. And they did not. So much for return customers! I'm taking my business elsewhere...where the shop will actually call me to keep me updated on the status and cost of the job and most importantly get the job done. I don't care if it takes a few days...get it done! read more

My DMV registration finally came and it says I needed to do a smog check for my car. I never done smog check before so wasn't really sure what to expect. A girl friend of mine mention about this place at Hayward that she always go to for smog check . I went and was very pleases with the service. Not only was the guy I was talking to polite.He actually apologize for his hands being to dirty ; what kind of mechanic would say that! Service was also fast . :) I was in and out in less than 20 minutes! My total cost for smog check and certificate was less then 40 bucks! What I like about this place is 1. you don't need to bring in any coupons!(29.95smog +8.95cert.) 2. they aren't like other place where they try to make more business out of you. If you come in for smog only, then smog only is what you get unless you mention to them you also want to have other services done as well. 3.Target is walking distance from the shop , you can go there while your car is being taken care of. what I don't like about this place is 1. the place definately need some remodeling done(not very appealing from the outside) 2. the waiting area is super small. 3. the person that work at the front counter also work in the back. I was here today because I've been looking for some reasonable price for Oil Change, I'm used to their fan when they haven't move to this new place (it was near BayFair before they moved), but I'm coming back again because I trust them and they always have coupon for oil change. They have coupon for $24.95 for regular oil change, which is reasonable, other unknown place charge for 29.95 at least for regular oil change. So I can live with this price. And I didn't have an appointment today, but they were quite busy today, I waited about 40 mins for my oil change, which is not THAT bad~~ I will recommend my friends to go here if they need one. Never come here, if you are in a hurry. I brought my car in for a simple oil change. I asked if they could have my car ready in 30 minutes. The guy said, "Sure, no problem." It has been 45 minutes already and they told me if would be another 10 - 15 minutes. They also took another customer that came in after me and have already returned her car to her. read more

Great place. I have been really lucky and not needed a lot of work done to my car and most of it is done here. The guys are great. They explain everything and get you out as fast as they can. I normally just drop the car off and run other errands. I just wish they would get a computer system so that everything is electronic so I dont have to keep track of the paperwork or fill it out everytime. read more

I have been going to Bobs quality tune up for many years. I trusted him with my brand new 2006 lexus rx400 hybrid car and he has saved me thousands of dollars,vs taking my car to a lexus dealer. he always goes the extra mile for you, my car already has 180,ooo miles on it. i recently went to a lexus daeler for a safety recall alert. after they did a inspection on my vehicle they said all fluids are clean and my vehicle was in tip top shape. How many shops do you know where, if you go for an oil change, they'll tell you specifically that you do NOT need an air filter? No con, no bs. I 've been going to Quality on-and-off (depending on if i was nearby) since they were located on East 14th and Hesperian. This "new" (a few yrs old ) place is larger. Don't assume you'll wait long for an oil change--there is an additional automotive repair area in the back, not visible from the street. How nice to go to a place you can trust!!!! read more

You can't beat $48.20 for a Smog Check! $39.95 for Smog Inspection $8.25 for Smog Cert (includes electronic DMV submission) They were at least $10 cheaper than any of the other places I looked at since they don't have a separate fee for being a Test Only service. Check to see if there's a current coupon on their website. I found mine through the coupon link at the top of this Yelp page. While I didn't get to personally bring my car in (I'm out sick and don't want to spread it around), I had my mom do it. Apparently, she had a laugh with the employees about how little we paid for my used car (a 1993 Geo) over 9 years ago and how it's always passed smog and never has problems running. I used to go to a place in Oakland for smog needs, but I was on a hunt for a new place with cheaper prices, better service and employees. I've found my new smog go-to! read more

I brought my car in for an oil change and it went fine. However, one time they recommended changing the electrical cable to the battery. I trusted their advice and had it done. Now, suddenly my car wouldn't start. I called them and no one picks up. I took my car to another mechanic and they told me that the cable was not replace and they only replaced the connection, resulting in burning up my alternator. They also said that there as one part of the cable that wasn't connected to anything and just tucked under the insulation. Beware! read more

I bring both of my cars here for maintenance, and the mechanics always do a good job. And they're quick, too. An oil change usually takes 30 minutes or less if you go during the morning. I love how they will wipe the bottom of my car after the oil change so it won't drip oil in my clean driveway. They'll also answer just about any car maintenance questions you can throw at them. I appreciate that they don't try to sell me any extras that I don't need. I will definitely continue bringing my cars here for service. read more

Of note, they can do the job. I did not give these guys two stars because they are incompetent. But, running a business is more than doing the basics of what the business claims. I made an appointment to get my cars oil changed and smog check done so that I wouldn't have to wait (because I had several other things to take care of before 5). I reminded them that I made an appointment when I checked in, and told them what the appointment was for because they didn't seem to keep any records of appointments. I was hungry, so after dropping off the car I walked down the block to a diner to get food to go. When I got back 30 minutes later, they still hadn't touched my car. After waiting another 15 minutes for someone to show up to the front desk area, I asked what was going on. The guy again asked what car I had, why I brought it in, and if I did the paperwork. After providing all of this information again, I then stressed that I only had until 4pm, and needed my car back. His response was to ask which I wanted more, the SMOG or the oil change. After 45 minutes of waiting, this seems unacceptable to me. Honestly, I might be able to say that maybe this was a one time thing...but at least 3-4 other customers where in there just as long....and none of them seemed to receive services until we stared them down and made them do their job. If you choose this place, be prepared to wait in a tiny area with 4 chairs, but 6-8 other people...and be prepared to have to push them to do their job. More than that, if you ask how long the wait is, double or triple the time for reality. I heard them tell several people that there was only a 30 minute wait for a walk-in...when a person with an appointment had just waited 45 for them to even touch her car. read more

I'm trying to call and the number that is listed has a recording that comes up as "Bob's Quality Auto". It also has a prompt to press 2 to "speak with a mechanic or schedule an appointment"; however when I press 2 it just keeps repeating itself prompting to "speak with a mechanic or schedule an appointment" but never actually transfers to anyone. The only other options are to leave a voicemail or for hours and directions which I don't need. I've been taking my car there for years and have been calling this same number with no problems. Has there been a change that I don't know about? I haven't been there in a while because I got a 2nd car and hadn't needed any service until now. Can someone please let me know if there is something else going on? read more

Work-wise I think these folks are fine, but my experience today left me with a really bad attitude. I left my vehicle there around 12:30 for a smog check. They said they would call me when it's done. At 4:30 I called them and they said "oh yeah, it's done." So when I got there I waited behind someone else and then the young mechanic asked me what vehicle was mine. I told him. He just left me standing there and proceeded to help 3 other customers and disappeared 2x. I sat in a chair and actually fell asleep. At 5:05, after waking up, feeling very ignored, I stood up to get their attention. The younger guy told Bob I was there for my smogged vehicle. Bob explained my vehicle didn't pass. I asked what time my vehicle got tested. He said around 2:45. I said no one ever called me and your assistant has left me standing here for over 20 minutes. Bob said "He needed me to explain the smog problem to you and I was busy doing another smog test". I stated that it would have been nice if someone could tell me that and ask me to sit and wait instead of ignoring me while I stand at the counter. I'm a bit upset. He offered no apology. Bob, I expect better treatment if I'm ever going to use your shop again. I like to support the locals but I need an apology if I'm ever gonna give you a thumbs up and my patronage again. read more

I've come here twice - for an oil change and an oil change & tire rotation. They're pretty busy but they get it done pretty fast. As a test, I had them check my brakes which are actually pretty new. They told me they looked great and didn't need anything. Wow, an honest mechanic! I'm going back for sure.They also usually have coupons for discount services. The building and parking lot are a little rough. If you're looking for a sleek and modern facility, you will be disappointed. But I'll take honesty over aesthetics any day! The location is close to shopping, banks, restaurants and a Safeway so you can easily walk somewhere instead of having to wait there. Everything is close and they will call you when your car is done. I take my dogs and we walk down to the open air cafe and have a nice snack. read more

I started going to this shop over 15 year ago when they were at 150th Ave. and E 14th Street. I like their new location as there is a bigger lot and a garage for major repair. Like I said I have been going to Quality Tune-up in San Leandro for over 15 years and find the service excellent. They are up front with any repairs that may have to be made and are the most honest repair shop that I know. I have had two cars that needed a major overhaul (100,000 miles) and they did a marvelous job at a reasonable cost. The cost was within reason as what I expected and they found another problem which needed a fix that would have put my car in a dangerous situation and the extra cost was minimal. If you are looking for a honest auto shop for repairs this is the place to go. read more

I loved this place. Brought all my cars here, even when on E 14th. Great customer service until today. Car supposed to be ready by 3:30. Left my number for the call. No call so I called at 3:45 only to be told it wouldn't be ready till 4:30. It is 4:46 and I'm still waiting. A lot of excuses. I don't care that the car is late but a courtesy call should have been made. And I told Robert and he still doesn't get it. My mouth won't shut up about this if anyone asks. I really want to like this place. My daughter has taken her car there a few times and it's been fine. I took mine in this morning at 8:30 for a tune up and oil change. He said there were cars ahead of me so it would be between 3 and 4. Fine. At 3:30 I called to see if I should start walking over. They hadn't even started it yet! He wanted me to leave it over night but I was unable to do that. No call to let me know it would be delayed. The two stars are for his politeness and previous visits. Never again. First time here today. No appointment. Though not too many ahead of me. Needed a smog. The employees were so friendly, kind and professional. The cost so fair and reasonable. Wait time about 1.15 hr. I walked to cafe Sorriso to get a coffee and didn't get a chance. Quality called me within 20 minutes. Car was ready. So fast and efficient. Not going anywhere else in the future, mainly for the politeness. After rude encounter with guy at MacArthur and Dutton. Horrible experience. 90 dollar smog after coupon it was 60 bucks. When I said I would need to think about it and maybe come back, he yelled at me asking how he was supposed to make a living. Quality was under 45 dollars. Fair and reasonable. After a very "disappointing" (terrible) experience with a Concord auto repair shop that had done well on my first visit, I returned to Bob's Quality Tune-up in San Leandro. While it's not the most elegant place I find the owner trustworthy and honest. I called for an appointment and estimate for a recent repair there and Bob suggested I buy the parts myself ahead of time to save $$. Bob was courteous, but the oil service was NOT a good value. I had my BMW e46 ZHP there for a full synthetic oil change. The cost was $106 including the canister oil filter and 2 additional qts of oil. They used "dura max?", an off brand of oil. I went there expecting to pay about $70 as advertised. For comparison, Weatherford BMW charges $99 for full OEM oil and filters change. Hutche's Lube charges $20 less and includes a car wash. read more

I've been coming here for smog checks for many years but this was the last time. The smog checks take forever....I've never been out in less than 1.5 hours. Many times it's longer, depending on when you come and how busy they are. The prices have been going up at an astronomical rate, especially for my 1987 car. I looked back through my records and when I came in 2012 it was $45 including certificate, in 2014 it was $58, and now it was $68. It passed the sniffer but not the visual because a hose came off the smog pump. So I had to fix the hose(they didn't have time to fix it) and come back for another test and wait another almost 2 hours. Charged a discounted price of $20 for the retest. Bob is hardly there any more to oversee things and I'm very suspicious about their pricing practices. Didn't notice the hose being loose until I brought it in and failed smog because of it. I'm a bit suspicious about that too. There are less expensive and faster shops in the area to do smog at, and in hindsight, I should have stopped going here a long time ago. read more
