I went to this location today and my cashier rang up my 2 items, I had put my card in the reader…read moreand she said my total as 58.00, I then asked, "wait, 58? Why?" She said, "oh sorry there was someone else who was in line before you and they got a captain Morgan and then changed their mind and I forgot to clear the register. I will refund you the 30 difference. " I replied," ok, thanks" I put my card back in, she pushed buttons then said, "ok, it was refunded." She handed me a new receipt. I had a gut feeling she wasn't right. I got to my car checked my receipts and checked my bamk account. Sure enough she charged me a second time 30 for another bottle of Morgan's that I didn't get. So I went back in and told her she didn't refund me she charged me now $60. She solid, "oh my goodness I'm so sorry. I must have been flustered. Let me fix that." This 3rd time she finally fixed it. But I believe she knew what she was doing and was trying to take advantage of shoppers being occupied and in a hurry. Pay attention at the checkout, make sure your purchase price is correct.

But it's one of those liquor stores where the emphasis is on huge bottles of cheap, hard liquor and 24-can cases of cheap, warm beer. The spirits section is a good three times larger than the wine section. At 7:00 in the evening, the other customers were already shitty-drunk and there to reload, except for the guy in the Turkey Trot sweatshirt who was there to purchase a pack of Camel 99s. I was there to grab a couple of bottles of vino, and as for the wine selection.......let's put it this way: There was a decent bottle of Argentinean malbec shelved just two bottles to the left of the Boone's Farm Fuzzy Navel (which looks like fortified Gatorade). On the plus side, the wines carried by my local supermarket were a good couple of dollars cheaper at Liquor King, but that's not going to make me forget that they're also a couple of dollars cheaper at Trader Joe's, where the selection is better. This struck me as slightly surreal: The Pakistani-looking gent behind the counter complimented me on the wise choice of the malbec. "That's a good bottle."

During a visit a couple months ago, I mentioned to JD that the only place cheaper to get Jose Cuervo Tequilla was Holiday Market in Cottonwood; however, that was only because they had a special sale going on. A couple weeks later, I returned to Duffy's to find a much larger bottle of Tequilla available even cheaper than the limited time sales price at Holiday Market! JD had remembered my passing statement, and had done the foot work to find a cheaper vendor keeping his prices even lower than the surrounding competition! There are many stories like this one to tell, if only there was room to enter them all here. Time and time again, I have witnessed JD carying large bulky items out of the store to an customers vehicle for them. Many times I have called ahead of time to find out what time the store was closing to see if I could make it in after work, and countless times JD has kept the store open, going above and beyond the call of duty for a single customer! Not only is Duffy's Liquor a great store with Great Prices, but it is a friendly place run by an owner who seems to care more for others than himself. If liquor isn't your style, stop by for an energy drink, a soda, or perhaps a snack for the road. Support your favorite sports team with various apparel you can't find cheaper anywhere else!

The new site next to the Cascade Theater is convenient and the inside is charming - cozy, clean and sets the right atmosphere with old-style architecture and wine-related decor. Each time I have visited, I discovered wines that I had not heard of but that impressed me enough to buy some bottles for my already overstocked wine cabinet. It's fun to hear the stories of the wineries as you sip their wines. And the staff does a great job of finding wines that may not be on the current tasting list if they see that the customer's palate matches something they have stashed in their cellar. I've not tried the food that is offered, but the limited menu was inviting and appropriate to a wine & tapas kind of experience. Having sampled wine all over the U.S. and in many different countries, I am very happy that Redding now has a fun and interesting venue for both experienced aficionados and those who are new to the enjoyment of wine. As I walked in the door, a woman was standing outside calling her unleashed French Bulldog to come to her. At that same time another woman walked out of the store with her two dogs in a utility wagon. These are PETS, NOT service animals. Bringing pets into an establishment that prepares or serves food that are not designated service animals is ILLEGAL in CA in addition to being disgusting! The first dog was running around inside the entry way unleashed and clearly a pet, this should NOT be allowed and YES the store should stop this. I have zero issue when a patron comes inside with a designated service animal, but pets should NOT be allowed.
