When I walked in I felt like I stepped back into time. It was like walking into an old train car. They had the guy cooking right behind the long counter. Immediately I went on the Yelp app to see the reviews and mostly all of them were positive except quite a few people complained about how long they waited for their food. Well, they were legitimate complaints. Me and my wife waited roughly 45 - 50 minutes for 2 egg platters. The part that upset me was the people that walked in after us and sat at the counter were served before us. Basically the cook (owner) served his normal customers first. If it wasn't for the long wait time I would've easily scored Bob's 5 stars but 45 - 50 minutes for eggs will deter me from going back. read more

This place is so legit and I'd love to come back! Where to start? It looks like a tiny wooden shack from outside. e got there around 9 am on a Sunday and there was lots of seating available. The view as you can see from the photo is lovely, and you can see the commuter rail when it occasionally comes through. There is also a police station next door so you get a Birds Eye view when officers are getting off shift. Pancakes here are so good. I'd say 98% of breakfast places have pancakes that disappoint but not these. Since I wasn't sure, I let the kids order them instead since they will eat anything as long as there is maple syrup on it. We ordered them a short stack of blueberry pancakes to share and added on real maple syrup. They were golden and not too thick or heavy. They had to pay the "mom tax" of sharing some with me. My husband ordered eggs, home fries and bacon and the bacon was also perfectly done- something else that we don't often find. This place is charming, there was what sounded like some 80s post-punk playing softly, our server was charming (French accented too perhaps?) and we hope to be back some day! read more

I was so happy we went out of our way to go to Bob's Diner. It was a fantastic breakfast! I had the Irish Benedict and my wife had the Little hangry. Both were delicious and plenty to eat! We dropped our pet at Guardian Vet for treatment and saw this diner as the 3rd closest recommended place to eat. Sándwiches were v Good. Pleasant small diner. But we waited nearly 30 minutes before getting our order, seems too long to wait for simple egg sandwiches in a diner don't you think? There only 7 other diners. After walking out, we started noticing the many Spanish bakeries and restaurants nearby. In retrospect, we should have used our eyes to observe the area and might have had an equally or more delicious lunch at any of those Latinos cafes for cheaper and faster! read more

Went for a weekend breakfast. Of course it was crowded, lol. So we ate at the counter. Had to wait a bit, but of course this was a Saturday and the place was packed. The waitresses were running around, courteous and attentive. Took a couple pics so you could see the counter was full too. Noticed there was a 15% discount if you met different criteria - interesting... Overall, breakfast was good. I tried the eggs with home fries, which was good. When ordering, they gave me a choice of hash browns too! I thought that was unique as I don't recall anyone ever asking me if I wanted home fries OR hash browns. Went to "Bob's Diner" which is now called Sprague's Brewster for brunch after church this past Sunday. Having worked at a deli myself, I know approximately how much time eggs, bacon, potatoes and sausage take to cook. We entered the diner and granted it was crowded. There was an open booth so we , three of us, asked if we could sit there. The woman showing us to the table was apparently not pleased about working Sunday. She put placemats, returned with silverware and napkins but no menus. We were given coffee and water right away. I looked at the table next to us to see if they had any extra menus but no luck. It also looked as though the table next to us had already finished and were just waiting for the bill. It took roughly 8 minutes for us to be noticed and get actual menus. Once we were noticed again the same "happy" woman took our order. It was at this time I started my stopwatch. Nothing outlandish was ordered. An omelet, scrambled eggs with sausage and pancakes, white and rye toast and a burger. While we were waiting the table next to us had their food brought out. We all looked and thought the same thing; "I thought they had eaten already". They were there for some time and we knew we were in for a wait. They were kind in offering more coffee but we could have used Well our three person order took 27 minutes and 13 seconds to be brought to our table. One would think with that amount of time the presentation would have been grand but, no, eggs on a plate, toast on the side, sausage and pancakes all there just basic. We all couldn't wait to get out as fast as we could. The Diner is tiny and many people sit at the counter if only because there is nowhere else to sit. When I finally got the attention of the guy who collects the money they came right over. They are certainly more focused on collecting money than putting out good food. Once they gave me the bill our more than happy waitress came over and asked us if we needed anything else. Um, a little late to be asking, no? In addition not once after the food came out did they ask if everything was okay. The scrambled eggs were not cooked through sausage was over cooked but they didn't seem to care. Save your money save your time and do not go to this establishment. Find another Diner who cares to serve you a decent meal and not hold you hostage for poor food and service. read more

It's not everyday while on a three day weekend you manage to hit 3 five star restaurant dining experiences; it all began here at Bob's diner. Service at Bob's was first rate, very hospitalable and efficient. Our orders arrived quickly, correctly and were delicious from first to last bite. The standout here were the Eggs Benedict; perfectly cooked eggs on crispy crunchy toasted English muffins and an exceptional hollandaise sauce. It's not easy to get good Eggs Benedict, it's a hit or miss but at Bob's it was 2 bullseyes for my son and wife. What sets Bob's apart is the trifecta in the restaurant foodservice business: Hospitality, service and very good food. Sadly most places feel it is all about the food; that certainly is important but just as important are the other two. Service and hospitality are indispensable key components to any memorable dining experience; Bob's delivers all three while making it look easy. read more

Coming out of Yelp retirement for this one... Very hot and no A/C in 80 degree weather until we asked, and very slow service. It took 35-40 minutes for 3 orders of egg dishes and one order of pancakes to come out. At the 30 min mark, and after painfully entertaining three very hungry children, we noticed that there were a bunch of crayons at the waiting prep station that were never offered to us. We asked for them and promptly received them, but received no explanation. We also asked at the 30 min mark when our food would be ready. Instead of apologizing for the wait, the server said that a "30-40 minute wait was normal." Not true. A 35-40 min wait for eggs and pancakes at a diner is not normal, especially when there are empty seats in the restaurant. The food was standard, tasty diner food. The old school vibe was charming, but the table service was really lacking. Not cheap either--with 20% tip, our bill was around $73. read more

I felt like I entered one of those weird trucker stop diners you see in movies. The tiny diner looked like an old trailer and smelled of one too. The decor was kitschy, but matched the whole dingy feel of the place. The food is your typical diner fare of various breakfast items, sandwiches, burgers, and wraps. We ordered a breakfast combo and avocado egg sandwich. Everything was fairly fresh and prepared well. The sandwich was a bit sad on its own. I thought it would come with a side, but it was literally just a square bread sandwich on a plate. Overall, it was ok. We were visiting from the city and wanted a meal before heading back. The food here is wonderful and the people who work here are very professional. I just ate lunch here today and the hamburger served to me on a hard roll was delicious. This restaurant is the size of a railroad car, which means that you get to watch them cook the food right in front of you, which means that you know that the kitchen is clean. My experience ordering breakfast from this place last week (over-hard eggs, regular bacon, Canadian bacon, chopped potatoes, three pancakes, and wheat toast) was equally good. Ok, what a jewel of a place. Great diner good, made with obvious care and good ingredients. I ended up eating my California Eggs Benedict with my eyes closed so I could better enjoy them. And the staff is friendly and kind... each of the diners as they arrive and departed addressed the cook (owner?) and wait staff by name. I was 5 years old back in 1955 when I first came to Bob's Diner with my Dad. We lived in Brooklyn, NY at the time but had a house up here in Brewster. We would come up every one weekend a month. Always stopped at Bob's Diner. I still remember where we would sit in the back booth on the right. Many years later, I would be working at the nuclear plant for Con Edison not too far away and stayed with friends up there and always went to Bob's Diner for dinner. Place was still the same. Loved it when I was 5 and still loved it at 55. I'm retired now but still think about Bob's Diner. Love Brewster way back in 1955 with all the farms around at that time. Have to take a ride down there with my wife one weekend and stop at Bob's. Food is ALWAYS GOOD! People that work there are just great people too! read more

So the food was delicious....the service, left a lot to be desired. We can in on 4th of July, 3 of us. The place wasn't busy so we sat immediately. The decor has an old diner feel to it, license plates and old signs covering everything. Our waitress came over and just continued to mumble for the entire duration of our visit. Our friend was in the bathroom and we tried to order her drink as well right after saying our own, but she scurried away as quickly as possible. It was the weirdest thing. We ordered our food, and yes my friend received her drink. The food took a little while to come out, but when it did, it was oh so good. My friends got a breakfast wrap, and a chicken sandwich. I had to roast beef sandwich. Everything was smoking hot, and very delicious. I even liked their side cole slaw. I think between the three of us it was maybe around $30. Again, I have to comment on the waitress. When ordering, she asked if we wanted the lettuce and tomatoes the chicken sandwich came with, we said no. She put it on anyway. I asked if I could have a side of mayo when ordering, she said yes.....never brought it. And 2 separate times my boyfriend tried asking for something, and she would scurry away each time! This is a beautiful little piece of Americana that is one of the hidden gems of the Hudson Valley. Walk right into the 1950's, have a seat and enjoy some of the most delicious breakfasts and lunches that you have ever had!!! Say hello to Tom, who is perhaps the greatest short order chef in the world!!! What this man can do with simple ingredients is nothing short of miraculous. Excellent stop for a freshly prepared, no - frills breakfast in Brewster. Obviously a local favorite; everybody who walks in seems to know somebody who's already there.There is one guy behind the counter, and he is cooking your breakfast as you order it. Don't come if you're in a rush, but give them time to do their job. The home fries are incredible; love the link sausage that's halved and browned to crisp on the flat top. Everything is cooked exactly as you asked for, and somehow the staff keeps track of everything, including keeping your coffee refilled. We will make this a regular stop. read more
