Lobster roll with butter, lobster roll with mayo, pint of whole belly clams
    Cindy S.

It was my first time coming here. Ordering was easy and our food came out quickly. We got two lobster rolls, clam chowder, and a pint of the whole belly clams. They loooadded the lobster rolls and it came with plenty of fries. The rolls were nice and toasty. The perfect first lobster roll of the season for me. I usually have clam strips but the whole belly clams are a game changer - not too chewy, perfectly juicy and crisp at the same time. Everything was seasoned well and wasn't too overly salty. Great portions for the price. If you're visiting, there are two parking lots, the further one has more parking and there's a back patio space with more seating. I would come back again if I'm in the area!

If you love fried seafood and clams this is a must stop. Right at the state borderline between NH and Maine, it's a great first food stop. Scallops which are my fave are big. If you're a whole belly clam fan, you have two dredges to choose from. It's a no frills kind of hut with New England vibes. Seating is all outdoors except for bar stool type seating inside. Counter ordering and no wait staff.

Tried one more lobster roll in my short trip in Maine. The roll was nice. Wish I got just butter instead of mayo though. The fried haddock sand was light and fluffy. The hot dog was a hot dog. This place was busy but we got our food fast. This place is solid. Side note it's close to an outlet mall if you need to do some shopping.

As my wife and I made the trek up the coast to Maine we were licking our chops to get our taste of what this great state had to offer... and we were let down BIG time. If you are a foodie and are accustomed to well seasoned food, then you will likely be let down as well. Honestly, I'm not sure if there is a grain of salt in the kitchen and if there was, they definitely don't put it on their food.

Drove across bridge from Portsmouth to Kittery to hit up Bob's Clam Hut, we got there just before closing. Young lady behind register was friendly and answered our question without hesitation. Wife ordered the grill chicken sandwich and I got both chowder and lobster roll. Wait was not long and everything looked great, she liked her grilled chicken sandwich and both of my items were good as well. Definitely worthy of a stop and or another visit.

Went to eat here after going to the huge outlet across the road, and we only waited a little in line: you order at the window then they call out your name/order number. No table service, so remember to grab napkins and flatware. The food orders were called soon and were picked up: clams and lobster roll, fries, more fish. Quite good overall although the lobster roll bite I had was cold, but the flavor was nice. The clams and lobster I tasted both lacked salt. The ambiance is relaxed with tables both inside and outside; basic decor with the menu displayed at the entrance (see photo) It was a nice late lunch after doing some shopping and sightseeing with friends.

Came here for dinner yesterday and ordered the quart for whole belly clams bob's style and a basket of scallops. The quart of whole belly clams market price was $60. The basket of scallops was $25. The clams were fried well and seasoned nicely. The scallops were great, portion size was a bit small for the price compared to other fried seafood places along the east coast. However, I like this place and I would still go back if I'm ever in the area again

Bob's Clam Hut is one of those places I remember always going to as a kid whenever we were visiting Maine! Unfortunately my most recent visit, I found the food being quite disappointing. We ordered fried scallops, fried whole bellies, and a cup of clam chowder. One of our orders I believe it was for the bellies, we did Lilian's batter, and for the scallops we did Bob's style. Both were not crispy at all and scallops were cold? Clam chowder was also not that great either, very watery. I think the best part of our meal was the cole slaw lol... I hope that it was just an off day and the food is still good normally because it was a bit of a let down after waiting for our food for so long. On another note, we found a table inside, to avoid the heat outside, and it's well air-conditioned... thank goodness!

We flew out here from Los Angeles for an impromptu Maine trip. We've never had lobster rolls, so our first order of business of course was trying some. Bob's was on our way from the airport to the hotel, so we stopped by. I hope this experience is indicative of what to expect over the next week, because this was great! The guy we ordered from was nice. He was patient with all our questions about what all the different beers were. Once we chose our beers, we tried one of the hot butter lobster rolls and one of the cold mayo lobster rolls. They were both phenomenal. I liked the hot one better, and my wife liked the cold one better. But we both enjoyed both. We brought our dog, so we sat out in the back patio area, which we really enjoyed. The front patio and inside did also look nice. This place was a great first lobster rolls and for us; I think they set a nice bar!

Bob's is located conveniently off 95 and is a great spot to visit if you're in Kittery or heading north. They have indoor and outdoor seating. Seats are first come, first served, but they are plentiful. Parking can be a challenge, but there is a big lot next door that's a short walk. We got cold lobster rolls. They come with fried pickles. The fries are great with their homemade tartar sauce. Honestly, I'd buy just the pickles if I could. They are the right amount of tart and garlicky. The cold lobster rolls are top 3. And I've had a lot of lobster rolls! A big serving of meat, rightly dressed, and perfectly cooked. The buns are buttery and toasted. Yum! Pro tip: they have online ordering. Save yourself from waiting in the LONG line.

I thought it was tasty. It is a typical Maine seafood place - order at the window and sit inside or outside - the ambience is what you'd expect for coastal Maine - not fancy! The service was friendly - but they wouldn't grill scallops for me. The price was high. If you don't eat fried food and can't afford almost $50 for a platter - wait until summer. Prices may drop then. The fries were so good.

Bob's Clam Hut NEVER disappoints! I stop by here every time I visit Kittery Maine and usually end up ordering a variety of the same items: scallops, whole clams, fish. They provide generous portions and the seafood is always fresh. I love the tartar sauce and cocktail sauce that comes with the fried seafood. You really cannot get this type of food anywhere else and it's perfect to share with a group. My family always gets the boxes which come in 1/2 pint, full pint, or quart. Usually 2 quarts of different seafoods is enough for 5 people (in my opinion). During my most recent trip, my friend and I ordered a 1/2 pint of whole clams and a pint of scallops and we had leftovers to take home. Again, the portions are generous, usually the boxes are overflowing. There are two lots on either side of the restaurant, one is much larger than the other. If you're having a difficult time finding parking, there are plenty of other parking lots nearby, just a short walk away. They also have ample picnic table seating out front and in the back, which is covered under a tent. Though there may be long lines, it's worth the wait!

Bob's style or Lillian's for the Whole Clams?

I personally hate to admit it......but for 40 years.....I have only ordered clam strips......shame on me. I believe that they are pretty close....I'd peek at others people…

Does Bob's Clam Hut have gluten free options?

    It does!

    How good is the chowder?

On the brothy side with a subtle herbal taste (thyme). Very good but not too creamy. Clams are chopped very fine

And they have the displays to match. On this partly cloudy afternoon, I was in search of lobster tails. Upon requesting them, I discovered two things.. 1.) Unfortunately, the tails offered are not very big. Near as I can figure, they come in packs of 3 of what appear to be around 5 ounces each. 2.) Lobster really IS more affordable if you buy it in Maine. For context, a standard two pack of lobster tails at 5 ounces each (or sometimes 4oz) costs me around $25 in NH at the time of writing this review. The 3 pack of the same size tails costs the same price here at Taylor. So, naturally I bought two of those and ultimately nabbed a little under 2 pounds of lobstah for a mere $50. Sufficed to say - we will most certainly return at a future date. I have my eyes set on the fresh lobster meat next. As mentioned, everything in the glass display looked delicious. The place is easy enough to find. Just be aware their entrance is actually not in the front of the building, but on the right hand side. It's a little confusing at first, especially considering the tiny street view sign doesn't help much. If you drive into the "boat drop off" section, you're on the wrong side. Other items I wouldn't mind trying next visit are their lobster bisque and clam chowder. If you're coming across the border as I do, one pro tip I'd offer is to bring a cooler to keep your produce in for the day as you travel back. We transported the lobstah back in my car on an 85 degree day and the gel ice packs kept everything cold enough not to oxidize. Definitely check this place out for all your fresh seafood needs. The locals have spoken and I agree; Taylor Lobster Company is worth 5 fresh, buttery lobstah tails charred on the grill out of 5.

The salmon bites were over saturated in sauce so much so that the panko was soggy, the pan seared scallops were decent but I found the bacon jam to be too sweet paired with the scallops. We could not flag down our waiter any of the times we needed her and every time we asked someone else for help they'd leave and not come back. When it started raining and we needed to move indoors she was gone for so long she was surprised when she returned and we had already had been helped inside by another staff member. We ended the meal when she said she'd come back with water only to disappear and we ended up asking another waitress for the check, and she redirected it back to our waitress, who finally came back with no water. The restaurant was by no means full so I'm not sure what the large gaps in service was, and at one point my friend noticed the waitresses chatting in the kitchen while we were craning our necks. I'd only come back to order the seafood chowder as the rest of the dishes weren't good enough to make up for this.

They serve various size of lobsters as well as cook them for you. However they do not provide place to eat or utensils so they function more as a market than a restaurant. They have sort of a parking lot where you can park. There are few works on the back hanging around and 2 younger staff that take care of orders. Lobster has quite few size options and some explanations for terms they use. We weren't sure what to get but figure we wanted larger size lobsters. SLX which is the largest ones were $14 per pound. They can also let you pick them live as well but we chose 2 lb ones. They charge $1.5 to boil but it's a-lot of work to boil properly so it's worth it. We waited about 20-25minutes or so and they also chilled it so that we can take it home to eat. Luckily we had ice box with some ice packs so it kept the lobster fresh until getting home. Once we got home we opened the bag to eat the lobster. It's a huge lobster with large claws. We got a large bowl and separate plate to eat. It was a massive task to crack the claws as one of the claw was huge and very tough. We ended up using a hammer and dull knife to crack them open. The meat was tender and sweet. One of the best maine lobster we had. Overall the place provides fresh maine lobster for good price. Only issue is that they don't serve it so you will need to plan to take it home and have tools to crack them open. They also only take cash. If i were to come back i would give them a call a head of time to have the lobster prepared to go and pick them up which seems to be what other people were doing.
