We arranged a date, and he brought his van to my neighborhood for a Knife and Tool Party. I'm still getting thank-you notes from my grateful neighbors. He takes your knives, and texts you when they're done. My high-carbon Sabatier and Henckel knives are beautifully sharp, as is my lawnmower. We'll be calling him back every year, I think. Money (& time) spent with Bobby Mac is a great investment. Bobby is a professional who knows what he's doing & why he's doing it, if you're curious in regards to blades or metal-he'll gladly educate. Though he can sharpen your most expensive knives back to their exact factory blade angles for a very low cost, he'll also explain the benefits of less expensive knives - which he sells & they do cut perfectly well. I don't know amazing sharpening from good sharpening but I sure can tell good from bad. Bobby Mac's offers a really good sharpening service...including the tricky and easily damaged serrated knife, fast service onsite, at a fair price, and Bobby Mac is quite friendly. My Wustofs are on the lower end of quality but came out cutting like a champ. I learned by calling their # that Bobby Mac's would be on the right bank of the Charles River, at a Winter Farmer's Market in Cambridge, and as the only Cambridge knife shop never answered their phone nor did they call back after me leaving 3 messages, I was thrilled that I could get easier access to Bobby Mac's, since so many from SoCa (south of Charles River) raved. I wrapped up, bagged, and brought 6 knives, including that serrated knife, to the market. I had a serrated knife ruined by another service, so I was nervous. Bobby Mac herself was there and took my knives right away, gave me price on everything and literally had them sharpened, with each blade individually wrapped in newspaper and bundled together, in the 15 minutes she thought it would take. #win read more

I went to SoWa especially to get my camp hatchet sharpened by Bobby Mac. He did it in 20 minutes for $10, and wrapped the blade in thick newspaper so I could safely take it home. I had seen Bobby's mobile sharpening van at the SOWA open market before so this past weekend I bundled up six of my Wusthoff and Henckels knives and brought them down to be sharpened. They weren't in terrible condition but just needed a little sharpening. They were done in the quoted amounted of time, during which I just wandered around the farmer's market and picked up a couple of things for dinner (and tried to avoid the incredible fresh donut stand!). Bobby did a great job with my knives. They cut as well as they did when I first started using my set 11 years ago. It was very convenient to have him come to our house. He was on time and very courteous. He explained the whole process before he started. The prices are more than fair and he takes his time sharpening each knife beautifully. He even fixed the broken tips on some of my mother in law's knives. An added bonus is that when he is done, he explains how to care for your knives and explains how to use the honing stick when needed. Butchered and scratched my Global knives with a recommended Gobal Minosharp 3 knife sharpener. Also, my chef knife had some pits and my pearing knife had a chipped tip/point. Needless to say, through word of mouth, brought my knives to Bobby Mac and WOW. My knives were as good as new with no signs of pitting or a chipped point! Bobby Mac and his wife are super nice peoples! After a quick introduction, we were on a first name basis from drop off to pick up - it was like we've known each other for years! I thought my push-style lawn mower was finished performing, but I figured with was worth a shot to have it sharpened. I just gave Bobby Mac's Mobile Sharpening a try today over at the SOWA market and I couldn't be happier with the results. Fast, friendly service; good prices; and edges that cut like the knives just came from the factory. Maybe better. One of the two I brought had been badly abused and abandoned by my home's previous owner. It had started life as a high quality cutter but was in such bad shape when I found it that I was expecting Bobby to refuse to touch it or at least charge a premium to put it right. The nice lady taking care of customers (while Bobby took care of the edges) took it and my eight-year-old never-professionally sharpened go-to daily chef knife without hesitation. A quick 15 minutes later, I picked up the two rejuvenated blades, which this evening surpassed my expectations. What a joy it is to cook with freshly sharpened knives! My honing skills are pretty decent and I usually refresh my knives after every one or two uses, but after this experience, I think I'm going to put my set on a rotating annual schedule to have their day with Bobby Mac. By the way, after this first experience, I understand why Bobby has garnered all 5-star reviews: Yelp doesn't allow a 6th star. read more

Can't say enough good stuff about Bobby Mac's Mobile Sharpening. I go to see them at SOWA which is easy and accessible and if you get there early enough the crowd isn't bad at all. Bobby took amazing care of two very different items for me this weekend and did such a great job I felt compelled to write a Yelp review: 1. Hatchet. While not listed on the site, they were happy to help me with a cheap hatchet I found at a flea market. In 25 minutes it went from a $4 paper weight of a cutting tool to an amazing camping tool that is now indispensable in my kit! 2. Machete. Since I was already bringing my hatchet, I took a gamble and had them sharpen my Great Uncle's WWII machete used in the South Pacific Islands. They really appreciated what a great piece it is, taught me a little about it, and sharpened it up PERFECTLY. No hesitations at all with everything from the simple to the ornate. I'll happily take any blade to Bobby Mac's and know that they will add value to anything I can bring their way. read more

I am an experienced straight razor user, but I managed to knick my razor on the faucet while shaving. Took it to bobby mac, and for $15 he brought her back to a factory hone in 20 minutes. I'm very lucky. For father's day I got sharp knifes! Cooking is so much more delightful with sharp knives. They are so sharp I just threaten the vegetables with them and they slice themselves. We had previously taken scissors to Bobby. My wife cuts approximately a half mile of fabric every week. Bobby carefully interviews her to be sure the scissors are sharpened to match the fabric. I've been looking for a convenient place to sharpen my knives and finally found it! The are at SoWa both Saturday and Sunday for the summer. I've never had my knives sharpened and I honestly didn't realize how bad they were until I got my sharpened ones home and started using them. Huge difference. Bobby Mac did a great job sharpening my Thiers-Issard straight edge razor from Art of Shaving. In under 10 minutes, he put the edge back on my razor and there was a definite difference the next time I shaved. I sharpened ice skates for a year and had a good idea what to look for with sharpening imperfections and saw none after he sharpened it. He also charged less than 1/5th of his competitors. read more

He has a rare talent and is able to get a knife razor-sharp without grinding it down like other sharpening services have done to some of my knives.
