Dry "Buttered Broccoli" ?
Gypsy W.

Post Covid this little secret was amazing, even during last summer was great! My first visit since returning back to Ohio, I constantly order from these places for family/friends while I am gone so... This visit was on a Thursday evening around 6pm, only 2 other tables in the place no orders to go on rack. Vary empty, I ordered my Ultimate Meal with soup/pie to go. Was seated 2nd but serviced third as another table was seated 7 minutes after my arrival to my table. Sad but maybe server didn't see my table which must of been the case as even after our server took our order we were constantly forgotten. Never got a drink refill unlike the 3 refills the 3rd table received. My meal was ready before 3rd table but sat in window until after 3rd table was delivered. ? Strange the 3rd table is past mine so server had to pass our empty glasses before going above and beyond for the young ladies seated at the table diagonal from ours. Funny, we ordered a simple chicken finger and noodles chicken ultimate meals with the "ultimate" portion to go. Server never came back around after delivering meal as my buttered broccoli was missing the butter. Everything would have been greatly appreciated if it was served hot and we were seated 7 minutes before the 3rd table. WOW! We ended up walking to the cash register without even a ticket as again we were forgotten. The cashier had to get server to get our to-go soup and pie ready. The service blew my mind as this was once my favorite place to order from for my local boys. You lost me on service alone; I wasn't hiding under the table and there were 2 servers working 3 tables with the occasional online order.

The country fried steak itself was really good, very meaty with a thin coating of breading.

The place wasn't crowded--just two staff members were present--but it did take a little while to be acknowledged. There was someone ahead of me who I thought was in line, but he was actually waiting on a DoorDash order. It seemed like the staff were preoccupied with that, which delayed them noticing new customers walking in. According to my husband, the menu changes frequently. I browsed a bit and decided to go with a classic chicken cheesesteak--just mayo and banana peppers. I got it as a combo with a drink and onion rings. They only offered soda or water for drinks, and I do wish there was an alternative like juice or tea. I'll admit, I wasn't expecting much since we're not in Philly--but let me tell you, that first bite changed everything! The chicken was perfectly seasoned, the cheese was just right, and the bread was the perfect texture--not too soft, not too hard. It was seriously delicious. The onion rings weren't your typical rings with raw onions inside--instead, they seemed more like a crispy, flavored version with a mild onion taste, which I actually preferred since I'm not a big fan of onions. We also ordered a cheeseburger meal for my kids (not listed on the menu but available), and my husband got the loaded Philly steak fries, which he really enjoyed. All in all, the food exceeded my expectations. I'd definitely come back, especially for that chicken cheesesteak!

We are not big fans of fast food and love getting to see towns off the routine road with their warts, charms, and peculiarities. Also, we almost always find great places to stop and eat that I'm sad more people won't venture off the highway a bit to enjoy. Happenings was this kind of place. Simple decor, it was all about the food, and clearly, the locals know they have a gem. And then there is Jeff, the owner! Jeff takes great pride in his food and his staff. He doesn't just greet customers, he engages and entertains them. Within minutes, we felt we were talking to an old friend we just hadn't seen in a while. Jeff takes great pride in his food and challenges you to prove him wrong. He was open to changes, too, and then, as we finished, came out to see if it lived up to his bragging, and it did! Honestly, this is the kind of place we wish were closer so we could become regulars, and Jeff was the kind of business owner you want to get to know and become friends with. We will go out of our way to stop in Happenings again. Sadly, we only pass this way 4-5 times a year. But that's ok, Jeff will make us feel like we never left.

Books everywhere, the menus are literally books, there's this big community table in the middle plus booths if you want your own space. Just one of those places that feels different the second you walk in.We both did the afternoon tea, sandwiches and desserts were good no complaints there. But the real shocker... the girls actually tried the tea and liked it I fully expected faces and complaints but nope. We did order a grilled cheese and a burger just to be safe and both were solid. Also tried an espresso martini for the first time and yeah I get the hype now, it was really good. And our server was so sweet, super patient, explained the teas, made suggestions without being pushy. You can tell she actually cared about the experience. Overall just a really cute, different kind of outing, especially if you're trying to do something a little more memorable with kids.

The tea sets that our teas were served in were all different which was nice so we could admire the different ones. Very beautiful pieces. Our servers, which were multiple, were very kind. Downside was they were not checking on refilling our tea pots unless we asked for a refill. Another disappointing part of the service was we were working on a Prix Fix menu but at no point did they ask if we wanted anything additional which I did. The food and teas had a mixed review amongst my group. My highlights were the deviled egg tea sandwich, chicken salad tea sandwich, and blueberry lemon scone. Personally wasn't a fan of the house salad and custard. The salad was plain with almost no dressing. While looking what other tables were having, there are a few things such as the tomato soup and poutine that caught my eye. Willing to come back to try the regular menu as well as iced teas. Tip: Parking can be difficult due to only street parking or a lot down the street.
