Here for breakfast a second time when we visited our daughter in college. In line outside but routed very quickly to a table. Efficient, friendly waitstaff, amazing food, and reasonable prices. This place is a hidden gem. Small but very good. The service is right on point. The only problem with this place is around 9:30-10 they tend to get busy and have a wait. If the wait is not long don't bother waiting outside they might forget you. Happened to us today. Didn't want to crowded the door. Overall the place is clean and friendly. Will come back. How can one not love a diner?!?! This location was very clean. Small, but big enough to hold a decent amount of people. Tables seemed to turn pretty fast as well, so I am sure they cater to a lot of people. Decor had pictures of the New York skyline and subway signs. A little cheesy to me, but with the place called Big Apple Cafe, I understood. Our server was great! Very attentive and answered any questions we had. I got a ham and cheese omelet, and it was way big enough that I almost didn't finish it. Nice chunks of ham and not too much cheese. It came with the traditional hash browns and toast. My son got French Toast. It was perfectly cooked and the pieces were nice and thick. Price was inexpensive to me. We were less than 25 bucks with tip for two big breakfasts. read more

Great food excellent service. Waitstaff all so happy which is a good sign. The double decker breakfast sandwich on multigrain bread was great. I subbed a side salad for the potatoes. Friendly staff, good food. Breakfast served until closing. Only three complaints: 1. Handicapped parking is, well, non-existent. But that's more an issue with the mall, not them 2. I asked for home fries with my burger, even pointing to it on the menu. They gave me regular fries. The fries were okay--pretty wimpy. 3. Got their cheeseburger. Burger itself was a bit dry. I was caught a little flat footed when asked for toppings; I'm used to them listed in the menu when it's entirely our choice. That being written, we ordered a pancake for our 9 year old. They made it with Mickey Mouse ears. And it was huge! He's also very picky about food (autistic), and he devoured the chicken tenders. Highly impressed. Food delivery was okay; not instant, nor too long. Pretty much on par with other diners like this. I plan on making this a regular thing when I need to eat out. read more

My partner and I had the rare opportunity to enjoy breakfast out and decided to visit Big Apple Cafe. The service was quick, the food was good, and the menu gave us the old-fashioned country diner fare we were hoping for. I ordered the breakfast burrito with hash browns and my partner got the diner breakfast (eggs, toast, sausage, hash browns) and two pancakes. Everything was tasty. The burrito was packed full with lots of peppers, onion, and sausage along the scrambled eggs. The cafe breakfast was exactly as it should be, and the pancakes were light, a bit spongy but also fluffy, and huge. We both found the hash browns, which are shredded potatoes fried on the griddle, to be underwhelming. Next time, we'll probably opt for the home fries, which are sliced potatoes that are seasoned and griddle-fried. I'm also looking forward to trying their lunch foods in the future. The place is pretty small, so I can imagine it gets pretty packed on the weekend! read more

Great food & super friendly service! We were in town for the Night Ranger concert last night. My husband & I love finding "Mom & Pop" restaurants when we travel & this came up in our search. The restaurant is located in a building that apparently houses and auto auction so it can be hard to find, but it is definitely worth it! When we walked in, we saw a couple tables of the old locals enjoy the breakfast and we knew that was a good sign. We did not catch the name of our server, but she was , a sweetheart, and extremely efficient. Their home fries are to die for! I had the ham & cheese omelette. Everything was delicious! When you think of a classic diner, this is your place. I came here a few weeks ago and sat at the bar during lunch time (it was packed on a weekday!) I went to the Big Apple Cafe for the first time and had a Rueben, hand cut fries and Coke ($13.80 total). I sat at the counter and the service was very fast and they checked on me often. The Rueben was good and the fries were OK (I wish they fried them 2 min more). Nice atmosphere and good prices. If I fail to find a GREAT Rueben in the Newark area, this will be the place to satisfy my craving. read more

We had no illusions. We were just dropping off items for an auction, was short on time, saw the sign for this place, saw the full parking lot, and decided "Why not?" Now we're looking for more stuff to auction off just as an excuse to eat here again. It was that good. In two visits, i had the Traditional Eggs Benedict and Ruben. The Benedict was wonderful, but not the best I've had...probably in the top 10. I'll be dreaming about that ruben for months. Thick tasty corned beef, tangy kraut, and home baked rye. Wow. My wife had German Fries with sausage and jalapeños and the Chicken Skewers on Sticky Rice. Both winners Oh...and try the home made potatoes chips. I was super disappointed that they ran out of cream puffs! I would have loved to try it. This place is right next to the Apple Auction place so just watch out and look for the right entrance. The parking right in front is ONE WAY only so be careful (I almost drive backwards!) the parking was almost full, probably because of the auction place, which is pretty huge, but I believe there is additional parking in the back, too. My husband ordered the cafe breakfast-eggs, toast, sausage and hash browns. He said it was not bad at all but wasn't great either. My cream chipped beef had plenty of creamy gravy plus chopped (or I should say chipped) beef and it was yummy. It was creamy, salty and flavorful. However, it doesn't come with anything. It comes with 2 pieces of toast, chipped beef in creamy gravy. If you are hungry, you'd have to get additional food as it wasn't much. (I wasn't too hungry so this was perfect, so this is not a complaint about the portion, but just FYI). Good fast service, clean restaurant. I would go back again to try something else (and hopefully a cream puff, too!) good place, but I didn't find anything special about this place or the food. read more

The three of us selected this restaurant because of its Yelp rating and we were pleased with our selection. The portions were big and delicious. One of us has the four-piece French toast, another had a custom omelet and I had the house made corn beef hash suggested by the server. I tried some bites of the omelet and it was solid. I really liked the hash because it had been crisped up perfectly in the flat top. We love NYC so we enjoyed all of the photos of the city on the wall, it made for some good reminiscing of past trips there. One of the only things I'd ding them on is we were one of four tables closest to the door and it was in the upper 20s outside so every time someone went in or out we chilled out them for warm again just in time for the door opening again. While this could be challenging to resolved I'm convinced it can be done without spending a fortune (e.g., air curtain). read more

Be sure to visit the restaurant beside Walmart. It is my favorite location. Whenever I'm going out for breakfast locally, this is THE spot! Great food, good coffee & super friendly staff. I'm getting hungry just thinking about it. I typically get an omelet & fried potatoes (not hash browns,) with toast & a small dish of fresh fruit. Do not miss trying their curried chicken salad sandwich. It's a true winner. They also have a wonderful Rueben sandwich. All of their food is delicious so just go! A great local place to eat! There are two locations and both of them are very popular! I have never gotten a meal I didn't thoroughly enjoy although the majority of the time I am eating there for breakfast. Delicious omelettes, great pancakes, and amazing "comfort food dishes". It's only slightly cheaper than other places like Bob Evans. Another great reason the eat here is that the owners donate a lot of food and time to helping local agencies that work with homeless and hurting families. read more

The sandwich had lots of bacon which was a plus but it was barely warm, nearly cold even. My fries looked really good, appeared to be fresh cut. But again I was disappointed as they were greasy and limp, not really hot either. Larry had the Farmer's omelet with hash browns. He said it was really good. They did have plenty of help and the waitress was friendly and efficient. Masks were worn except one girl who kept it pulled down the entire time we were there.
