Here's the details of our recent work: With the atmospheric river conditions causing massive amounts of rainfall this winter season, we had water issues in our garage space. Most contractors I met with gave very costly (and unnecessary) solutions and some weren't even able to find a solution.. and others were just not available (in time). I had used Bob for a small project in my rental; to replace a cracked window. At the time he was one of the only guys to respond quickly and follow-through. He also did good work. I called him for a recommendation for an exterior house painter. He indicated he had a business with a friend and that they did water proofing and house painting, as well as light (non-licensed) construction. I asked him for an estimate. It was a little higher than another one I had gotten, but Bob made the point that his workers don't just paint over dry rot, old fixtures and damaged door frames. I have a hundred year old house with a 10 year old paint job. I needed someone that had enough construction sense to replace old cornices and framing with new wood, and take off old clutter on the building. True to his word, Bob's crew replaced the dry rotted areas, took off stuff that didn't belong there anymore, put on layers of sealer, primer and paint and my building looks amazing!! Bob takes a look at the whole house and figures out where the trouble spots are. He has a lifetime of experience to pull from and it shows in the quality of his work and his attention to detail. I had a siding issue on my home & was told it was asbestos siding & would have to find a specialist to fix the loose siding pieces or remove & replace the siding. i had 3 window leaks, i caulked inside and out, rescraped it, did it again multiple times for weeks/months. even sprayed flex seal all over it. I could never get the leak fixed. I finally folded and reached out to Bob. Those who know how to work with him realize you gotta call him over and over again for weeks/months until he's finally available. But, this guy and his team knows what they are doing. They fixed 3 of my leaks that i tried so hard to fix, i am a diy person. Born here, raised here, he'll tell you everything you do (or don't!) want to know about your house, your neighborhood, his adorable granddaughter. I happen to like that a lot. He is warm and friendly and best of all a very knowledgeable about any kind of work he says he can do. If he doesn't have expertise in an area, he'll recommend someone. He build a beautiful custom redwood fence in front of my house for exactly what he quoted, along with a few extra things (caulking, fixing a kitchen drawer) thrown in for free just because he's a solid guy. My only complaint is that he's definitely all over the place with work - he delayed a day or two on when he said he could start, but that was fine with me, because accordingly he reduced the work time of 2-3 days to doing it all in a single day. There were a few minor things to complete the job which he said he'd come by to finish that week, and didn't actually come until over a week later, but, again, it was no big deal for me on timing. I had the feeling that if I was in a rush he would have accommodated that. Bob the Builder is a true SF experience - unique and not to be missed. read more

Awful, awful, awful. Trying to work with Bob makes me think this was how life was back in the 1920s. The guy doesn't answer any requests for days, and will answer something haphazardly and then go silent on you for weeks again. I've tried to get Bob to come out and look at our basement for over a month, and no response from him even after I've reached out at least 5 times to see if he was still interested in working with us. It's one thing to just say I can't do it, but to just ignore customer's messages is nonsense.
