SF Pro Roofing is the best contractor we have had to deal with in 15 years of home ownership. Oscar, Cesar and their crew helped us out of a very unpleasant situation where our previous contractors left us with extensive water intrusion problems in our flat roof after we found dry rot while replacing windows.
After having worked with multiple contractors to earthquake retrofit and remodel our home, what was so impressive about SF Pro Roofing was their professionalism, expertise and quality, particularly jumping to help us out of a very difficult situation on time before the rain came.
Scope of work: Remove deck, flat roof and siding to investigate water intrusion and repair. Reinstall properly flat roof, flashing, siding, and deck ensuring no earthquake bolt and screw penetrations cause new water intrusion issues and there is proper evacuation of water throughout roof.
Highlights: They finished the job on time, arriving every day on time and working non stop some days even after dark, with no change order even though the scope was quite complex and required a lot of expertise for proper layering and application of materials especially in the french door threshold and deck ledger below (unheard of when you open walls). Small details like turning off tools when you go and check progress so there is no noise, no loud music while working, careful setup and cleanup every day both inside and outside the house, complete order of tools and materials in the staging area, and perfect execution of the job. Everything was done with the utmost care.
Comps: Based on the experience with our terrible previous roofers and deck contractor, we interviewed 10 roofing and siding companies asking careful details to ensure the job was done right. We selected SF Pro Roofing because their approach made a lot of sense and were very careful and professional in their bid with a clear scope and definition of details. Their cost was similar to the other contractors we also liked, but the bid provided more details and scope beyond what was strictly required. Even then, once we hired them, we were anxious about the outcome, especially since Oscar was confident he could finish the job in 6 days when the other contractors were estimating 10 to 14 days. Nevertheless, Oscar demonstrated clear understanding of how to do the job right, and found very creative ways to ensure the interface between the flat roof, our french doors and the deck on top of the roof were done right. And as promised, they finished on time.
Throughout the project, I was able to monitor progress and they also pointed out the poor craftsmanship and material selection the previous roofer had done. SF Pro Roofing used the best materials and bonding techniques, and multiple layers of waterproofing and vapor barriers for our roof and siding, and gave us time to perform water tests throughout the project for our peace of mind.
