Greg Mullin turned our boring, rotting T1-11-clad house into the neighborhood showpiece in 60 days. To say Greg has an eye for detail is an understatement. He is a master carpenter and it shows in everything he does, just like one of the prior reviewers mentioned. And once he was done with the exterior, he designed and built a beautiful built-in bench in our front room with bookcase. (Photos to be posted shortly) He also painstaking ensured that the exterior would be properly waterproofed and was an excellent communicator for the duration of the project. Kudos to Greg for also working with us as we kept changing our mind and adding detail to the front. The results speak for themselves. We asked Greg to install wainscoting in our dining area, and then custom trim around mirrors in our guest bath and laundry room. I cannot say enough good things about the quality of work, craftsmanship, and professional by Greg and Justin. We had no idea what we were doing other than we wanted wood accents and trim to add a level of elegance and detail to our house. Greg patiently worked with us thru this entire process, working off Houzz pics and the verbal ideas we had. Even after we started the process, we realized we wanted to change direction, and he met us at the trim store to look at options and walk us through how he can custom build-out what we wanted. He was able to make adjustments and recalculate measurements to make sure proportions fit exactly the way they should. And the final product turned out fantastic! This turned out to be truly a one-of-a-kind custom wainscoting job and mirror trim that met our expectations. Greg Mullin and Scott Cassell recently completed framing for a 3 Story addition to my house. The work included foundation anchorage, three stories of framing, window installation, and siding. I was thrilled with the quality of their work. They are master carpenters, and also strong communicators. As an architect I prepared the plans and HC Structural Engineers prepared the structural design which included a few specific connection details for large openings and two terrace decks. Greg and Scott are very competent with plans and were quick to resolve any constructability issues that arose. They prepared carefully for the necessary Department of Building Inspections, which passed, and also thought ahead to the eventual drywall and stucco work. Greg, Scott, and I had clear budget discussions before the project began and I am very pleased that they completed the scope of work exactly within the billable hours they had estimated. Working within a quoted budget and maintaining high quality craftsmanship are desirable qualities in carpenters and contractors. Greg is an awesome carpenter. His work took my house from being drab 70's box to sleek post-modern home. Greg built beautiful stained cedar panels that wrap around the front and top of my house. Greg is amazing! He offers the best craftsmanship with excellent design ideas. He had the answers to the problems that we encountered during our project. Our project included removing our entire subfloor and replacing almost 1000 sf of timber framing. He even had to pour concrete and reinforce our main support beams. His finest work was the installation of our hardwood floor, the crown moulding, window and door trim, and doors. We recently purchased a home in the Marina District and needed a carpenter for a variety of projects. We discovered Greg on Yelp and hired him. We started with small projects, primarily to assess his skills. Greg was meticulous, thoughtful and worked efficiently. One of the first tasks we gave him was to set a fairly detailed baseboard (throughout the 1,750 sq ft). Corners are always tricky with baseboard, especially outside corners; but Greg matched the corners perfectly! We soon turned the construction project over to him and he never disappointed us with his fine work. He is a master-craftsman, with a very pleasant, accommodating personality and temperament. The first two didn't even provide an estimate which turned out to be lucky for us. Greg and Scott and their team did a fantastic job and were a pleasure to work with. Greg Mullin has done two jobs for us. In both cases we got outstanding quality at a fair price. In both cases, Greg was on time, and he completed the work by when it was promised. Greg made sure to understand what we wanted done, and checked to see that we were satisfied before calling the job complete. He can do big or small jobs, from small remodels to building a whole house. Greg is a really skilled and experienced carpenter. You can see this experience and skill when someone has to figure out how to solve an unusual problem. In one case, he needed to work around very odd angles in a pre-existing wall to install a door. Greg didn't build that wacky wall, but he did work around the existing structure to come up with a very neat installation. Another time we asked him to do a job that involved installing some Fiberglas panels in an extremely windy side of our house in South San Francisco (the wind capital of the Bay Area). This was done some time ago, and the solution he came up with has survived several major storms with high winds. I am a new home owner and this was my first time hiring contractors to remodel my new home. I agree with another reviewer Steve G that it's a major pain and i learned it the hard way. I first hired a different contractor through personal reference to remodel my kitchen and did not do any research on my own. He turned out to be a major nightmare. To make a long story short, he took half of my payment but unprofessionally decided to leave the about 2/3 of the work behind. I was desperate to find someone to continue and finish project. I found Greg through Yelp. Based on the excellent reviews, I decided to give him a call.. Greg and Angel were very busy but they were able to fit me in. They were willing to take care of the issues left behind by the first contractor I hired. They were both good listeners and did the work the way I wanted. The work was done on an hourly basis. Greg gave me an estimate before they started the work and their estimates were right on the mark when the work was done. I love the two beautiful build-in bookshelves they built in my living room and the sleek recess lights they installed over my kitchen sink. They also took steps to protect my carpet and other furniture from dust, etc. Overall, they were professional, on budget, and communicative. I felt that I could trust them from the beginning to the end. My first contractor left a bitter taste in my mouth, but Greg and Angel were able to regain my faith in the field of general contracting. I hired Greg to install a complicated stairway to my backyard. I am on a very high hill. His carpentry skill level is very high, I could tell by the way he made various choices. His work ethic is impeccable, always showing up on time and giving evidence that he really knows what he is doing. His communication skills are excellent. He always let me know via email, text, or phone what was going on. He involved me in various decisions that I had not thought through. In addition, he has an apprentice who is just wonderful. I am home in the daytime and I overheard conversations between them. I was so impressed by the way they worked together, respectfully, and amicably.
