Great food. I had the lamb burger served on pita with homemade crunchy potato chips and my wife had a salad with chicken, corn, almonds, croutons and a lemon vinaigrette. For dessert a date cake with homemade gelato, candied pecans and caramel sauce. We ate outside and it was a great place for a slow lunch. The Australian Semillon was tasty too. read more

They changed the menu to ala carte which ends ups costing twice as much as previous high priced items!

Delicious!! This place was not only great but the restaurant is so adorable. If you're looking for a great date night location in Mesa, you must give Board and Batten a try!!! Our server was great! Very attentive and explained the menu thoroughly read more

Had the steak excellent done perfect. Service was awesome and well attended. Ambiance was very nice sat outside near fire pit, it was cool outside but with fire and headlamp it was perfect. Only thing was I wish there was more choice limited menu read more

At first walking in the wait staff weren't as friendly but thank goodness we had Aaron as our server. Aaron was top down the best server that makes the restaurant top notch! He was amazing with his recommendations and I love when restaurants know their menu and can give solid recommendations. We especially loved the appetizers, we had the shrimp and meatballs. The entrees were also great and well seasoned. My highlight was the drink Aaron recommended which had a really nice citrus touch, a bourbon drink. Unfortunately we did not have a reservation on Wednesday evening but luckily they had seating. The outdoor location was fully booked so we hope to reserve in advance in the future so we can have a more intimate dinner outside! They even have blankets for you to use! read more

Masa has a very chic and sophisticated establishment and an unmarked but delightful place for gourmet dining. Besides visiting for the famous turkey club sandwich which I am definitely going to order again, everything was just good. But then I was just wishing for more diligence. The Caesar salad was tasteless and smaller than what I had last time. They usually perform better than that; hence, I am looking forward to a more pleasant experience next time. read more

Literally sat there for 25 minutes with no service, no water brought to us, no hello welcome by a waitress/waiter. However, there were people sat after us getting all of this attention. Only difference is we were POC. Coincidence? Maybe, not likely. We ended up just walking out since we were hardly acknowledged. read more

Beautiful space with very nice menu selection. Casual but classy and wonderful service. Thank you!

Last night we had a memorable dinner at Board & Batten in Mesa, AZ before attending a Christmas concert at the Mesa Arts Center. Atmosphere was upscale cottage, relaxed vibe, and extremely comfortable. Plenty of indoor/outdoor seating at 5:30-6:30pm. Our server Aaron provided excellent detailed menu recommendations and attentive service but not intrusive (perfect blend). The dinner menu was not expansive but filled with select high quality starters, salads, pastas, entrees, and desserts. We went with Aaron's recommendations, we started with sharing a "Fall House Salad", my wife ordered the "Squash Risotto", and I ordered the "Duroc Pork Porterhous". The salad was delicious and plentiful and both our entrees were prepared and presented exquisitely and were delectable. Kudos to the owner and entire staff, they were welcoming, friendly, and focused on a high quality dining experience for their customers. Notes: Location was easy to find, parking was ample and access appeared to be free and clear of obstacles. Highly recommend trying Board & Batten, we will return! read more

The location was more upscale than I expected. I'm not sure how it exists but I'm happy it does. The outdoor seating was comfortable and the staff welcoming. I was surprised cocktail The Sun Rises was so good. It is easy to go wrong with rose which was included in the drink. It is hard to go wrong with dates wrapped in bacon and theirs were good. I would have appreciated a little crunch but it didn't prevent us from eating them. The grilled cheese French Dip was excellent. The spicy chicken sandwich had a bun that was unevenly split and resulted it the top being dry and bready. It might have been a fluke. Everything was generally good and we enjoyed our visit. read more

This was highly rated on Yelp so i checked this place out for the happy hour time. We were the only wines there at around 3:30 and when we left at around 5pm. It was a Tuesday so perhaps it's a bit quiet at that time of day during the week. The service was great and the ambience is a fun place to check out while visiting the area. I was staying in Mesa and it was an 18 min Uber drive. read more

Came here for brunch and was pleasantly pleased. The building reminds me of some on the east coast and the patio has a great seating space. The service was great and food was delicious (turkey pesto sandwich). We also were given a dessert on the house which was the incredible: a salted caramel bar with lemon mousse. read more

This place is amazing! The setting is beautiful - you may drive by it and not even realize the special gem that is Board & Batten. Service was excellent. At one point we received our food and looked at the menu and a server was immediately at our table asking if everything was okay. The FOOD! Wow! Exceptional. The chef and his team did an excellent job of well prepared and delicious food. We tried a variety of appetizers and wound up splitting fish and chips (which was a delicious sandwich)! There is plentiful indoor and outdoor seating. Definitely look it up and give it a try! read more

we had the most amazing lunch in a very long time! the space was bright and clean and the service was attentive. yes, I know, we had a sandwich and fries but I'm telling you...they're the best! the sandwich i'm raving about was their grilled chicken BLT & A. The tomato jam was insanely flavorful and I just wanted even more. The kennebec French fries were insanely delicious. Perfectly crispy and seasoned well while paired with the most delicious spiced house ketchup. For dessert, we had the salted caramel butter bar which again another item that is insanely delicious. It was not at all too sweet but was still decadent and filling. I am definitely looking forward to coming back. xx read more

Board & Batten - The House Burger - New American Near Me - Mesa, Arizona

Came here upon recommendation and reading Yelp reviews. Our waiter Logan gave great recommendations. The menu descriptions weren't very enticing and the menu is really small but the food is delicious! My husband got the rainbow trout and loved the flavors and he doesn't usually choose the fish entree. My pork chop was juicy and had a great crust on it. The polenta was creamy (not like a cake consistency like some places, this was more like a thick sauce). The cocktails are the only meh part. Stick with the wine. The desserts were great too. I wouldn't have gotten the apple tart (not a big fan on apple pie type desserts) but again thanks to Logan we got it. It was more like a roll made of apple slices and puff pastry. And we also got the caramel bar - shortbread and caramel, yum. read more

Just wow. The ambiance is beautiful. Very posh and clean but I have seen a great casual wear for attire. Our server James was phenomenal. Very attentive and a constant while we dined. He was polite and wasn't afraid to ask the chef questions we had. The food. Literal chefs kiss. We arrived at the best times end of the social hour and beginning of dinner. The pretzel and sweet rolls are delicious but small caution, they do contain a lot of sea salt. So if you don't enjoy a salty pallet, just be careful. I still recommend them. The three entrees and desert we ate were one of a kind. The Gnocchi was perfect. Soft and savory. Taste best mixed with the tomato salade. The Pork chop was cooked to heavenly perfection. Creamed corn was delicious. & the fish (I cannot remember the name, it was second under water) was amazing. This dish does contain a spicy flavor but the figs made it balance out well. Desert choice, Italian wedding cake. Get it and thank me later. Moist cake, perfect buttercream and lux cherries are a must. read more

We adore this place. We frequently is it for brunch and we have never been disappointed. Their patios is amazing and when the evenings are cool like they are now it's the absolute best. The staff is awesome and it's just a quaint little place. Highly recommend. read more

Two dishes were excellent and two were good, but underwhelming. The bacon wrapped dates were a bit of a disappointment. They were definitely missing something to balance out the sweetness of the dates. I think it needed a strong cheese; the scant shavings of parmesan just didn't cut it. The turkey club was a fantastic melding of fresh notes of avocado and a yummy jam that swooped over the tastebuds like a flavor wave. The focaccia bread used for the sandwich was phenomenal, and maybe one of the best focaccia I've ever had. The French dip grilled cheese missed the mark in flavor and meat-to-cheese ratio. Perfectly grilled and melty, it looked promising, but needed salt and a bit more meat to balance it out. The almond cake was delicious. I loved the light sprinkle of salt over the sorbet! Nice touch! Outdoor dining is plentiful and really a quaint and pleasant setting on a nice day. Service was friendly and attentive. We will be back. read more

A friend and I had dinner at Board and Batten last night and we were both impressed. The decor was contemporary and bright and the dining room is relatively small, capacity being only 205. If I were going here with my husband, looking for a more romantic atmosphere, I would choose the patio seating at one of the fire pits under the strings of lights and nearby trees. At dinner last night we started with the appetizer that was on special, of which I cannot remember the name. It was delicious! A sort of mushroom risotto deep fried ball with marinara and shaved cheese. For dinner my friend had the 8 oz. C.A.B Pepper Steak and I had the Sonoran Pasta Co. Rigatoni Amatracianna. Both were plated beautifully plated and equally as delicious! The steak was very tender and the pasta was al dente. We were very impressed with our meals! Last, but not least, was our dessert we shared...the Salted Caramel Bar. It was unique and flavorful. The salty/sweet....yummmm! I felt the pricing was a little high when I mentally compared the atmosphere and service to other restaurants with the same pricing but, nonetheless, I enjoyed the experience and would certainly go back to Board and Batten again. read more

On my first visit, I received a good first impression. After reading about this spot on Yelp, I put it on my "to try" list. The grounds and the Cape Cod home itself is inviting and quaint. The property is surrounded by trees on two sides makes this place seem like it is somewhere else than in an industrial park. I love the open air dining room which is welcoming with its contemporary lighting and decor. Our server, Lauren offered her favorite recommendations and was so friendly, as were the rest of the staff. The french dip with smoked Gouda on local Noble bread was delicious. My roasted turkey club was very good on pillow like homemade focaccia. It would have been dynamite with just a tad more of the tomato jam. :) Of all things, who would have thought that the Lemon Caesar Salad would be the dish receiving the most kudos?!?! (We were told that the fresh creamy lemon dressing is the secret!) I can see why many choose to host their private weddings and events here. The modern gas fire pits, cobblestone and surrounding trees create a beautiful setting that I'm in love with. I'll be returning to this hidden gem! read more

Great upscale dinner in the Mesa area! Made a reservation for 3 people on a Thursday and was happy we did! The interior was full of patron and the outside patio was closed due to rainy weather. All the items we ordered were tasty! The bacon wrapped dates were good but not the best we've had. We usually prefer to have them stuffed with some type of cheese for a little extra umph. We also ordered the Cacio e Pepe as an appetizer and we satisfied with the taste and portion size. Our entire orders were the roasted chicken, pork shoulder, and pepper steak. All three entrees were prepared well, flavored nicely, and had great presentation! Staff was friendly, helpful and very efficient. Would highly recommend for a nicer dinner in Mesa. read more

This was my first time coming to Board and Batten and let me tell you the aesthetic of this place is 10/10. Like, I want my future house to look like this. There are mature trees all around, the landscaping is beautiful. It truly does not feel like you are in Arizona, especially is you are seated on the West side of the outdoor dining. If you look over to the East it looks like the east gate is at a bit taller than the rest of the area (which is a dirt lot to the right of the restaurant) and it gives you the sense that you are on a hillside cuz you pretty much just see sky. To the West of Board and Batten is a wedding venue so of course that area is well dressed up and has gorgeous landscaping. The outside lighting all over the area made it very romantic. I absolutely loved every aspect of the aesthetic. Food wise .. Appetizer was the crab cakes. Interesting flavors, crab was good, please do without the bacon powder stuff. 7/10 for those. Also ordered the burger. The burger was big, very tasty and the fries were seasoned very well. The ketchup is a spicy ketchup, not too much of a fan of that I would rather be given an option between regular and spicy. Overall that dish was a 9/10. The other dish we ordered unfortunately did not hit the mark. It was the lamb pasta (cannot remember the exact name). The pasta was undercooked so it was hard and the lamb was dry. The sauce was mediocre, it definitely could have used more flavor. Tasted as if I had opened a bottle of ragu and poured it over my pasta. I would not order that dish again. That dish gets a 4/10. Our waitress Carly was super sweet and attentive. I would possibly come back, but really only for the aesthetic. read more

Brought my mom & wife here for lunch. A little little bit off the beaten path, but well worth going to this tucked away gem! The food, service and atmosphere are outstanding. Even though there was a large wedding party occurring at the same time, they were staffed properly, and it never affected our excellent service. The weather was very nice so we ate outside on the patio. We enjoyed a wonderful lunch, accompanied by wine from their well thought out wine selections. I will definitely be back with my wife for a date night for dinner! read more

We hosted friends for dinner on a first visit for all of us. I was pleasantly amazed by our visit. The location is out of the way in an excellent setting. We've been here twice now: once for an anniversary celebration and again for a casual weekend lunch. Both visits were amazing. Board & Batten has done it again! Every time we come we ponder why we eat anywhere else. The services is great! Like for real... the waiter can rattle off so many details about any and every dish(I could never). We love that the menu switches up so we get to try new things when we go! PLEASE run right now and get the Swordfish before it's gone. I have never had a better combination of flavors! The pork was fork tender and bursting with flavor. Also get the chocolate dessert that has the orange on top. It's so rich but I never wanted to stop eating it(I normally don't like chocolate cake). This place is a hidden gem! It's smaller and has a very cozy feel. I highly recommended reservations! read more
