Board and Batten is an upscale restaurant, fit for special occasions. The outdoor patio is lovely; great atmosphere. The service was exceptional! The Lemon Caesar salad was my favorite thing! Large enough to share and so delicious. The Parmigiana Chicken was delicious, I would order it again. My husband had the Airline chicken and said he would not order it again. We ordered the Grilled Asparagus and will not order that again. It was cold and flavorless. The salted caramel dessert was delicious. Overall, a pleasant dining experience. read more

A bunch of us decided to have dinner together after one of my friends discovered this restaurant on Google. Let me start off by saying that the restaurant is extremely charming! I love the ambience and the decor. The staff was extremely friendly and the drinks were very good. Now let's talk about the food which is why we went in the first place. The menu was very limited. I got the crab gratin, which for practical purposes is just a crab dip. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't good either. Several of us did get that crab dip and we all agreed that it needed something else. I thought it lacked flavor, even though the server kept saying that he has gotten feedback that the dip is actually salty. I actually thought the dip could've used more salt and perhaps some sort of spice to it. Perhaps some crushed red pepper or some jalapeños on top and maybe some bacon bits? To me the crab dip was all kind of one note. The crab got lost in the sauce and the tomatoes didn't add anything to the dish to me. My husband and several other guests had the snapper and they enjoyed that. Perhaps that's what I should've gotten, because I got the pork chop. Pork chops are not easy to cook, so if I go to a restaurant and the pork chop is really good and juicy, to me that's a sign that that's a good restaurant and that the chef knows how to cook. My pork chop was overdone. I found it to be a bit dry and overcooked. The sauce that came with it wasn't bad, but it was something in that sauce that turned me off. A friend of mine offered some chili oil and I put that on the pork chop and that seemed to liven it up. It came with some sort of potatoes and they were average at best. Overall, I'm not sure that I enjoyed my meal as much as I could have. Again, I love the ambience of the restaurant, but the food fell flat to me. I have mixed emotions about this restaurant, but I think I might go back and give it another try. read more

This restaurant is truly a hidden gem and incredibly accommodating. We had a party of 20, and they were able to fit us in on short notice. Our group was served by two outstanding servers who went above and beyond to take care of us. I was very impressed--it definitely made me look good as a host. I have been in the area several times and when I crave a chill, relaxed dining experience, B&B is a must. Ok, take chill with a grain of salt as during the winter it gets packed! That being said the staff is great and does their absolute best to take care of the customers. The food is awesome! I like the way B&B rotated menu items to make sure they offer the freshest options. It may be a little higher on the lunch budget, but IMO worth the splurge every once in a while. read more

We had gone hiking out at Lake Saguaro and wanted a bite on the way home. We found this place through Yelp and thought it sounded good. At first we thought we were entering a country club but found the restaurant easily! It has the cutest layout! Very clean and welcoming aesthetic! We sat on the patio (dog friendly) which was really big and had umbrellas and a few fireplaces! It was a really nice place. We both we over the moon with our food. It came out pretty quickly and had incredible flavor! The chicken sandwich is amazing! The service was also very nice and made sure our drinks were always filled! It's been a couple of years since I've been here, and the menu is a bit more upscale, and the dishes were definitely elevated! We started with the Mushroom Crespelle, like a small crepe, it was filled with delicious, homemade ricotta, cheese, and topped with savory mushrooms, burnt honey and rosemary. I got a beautiful gnocchi with summer squash and broccolini. Hubby got a tender and tasty skirt steak. Be sure to taste the rotating wine selection, they are always trying new wines to add to their list. They have wine flights now too. Very proud to have this gem in north east Mesa! read more

We had really been looking forward to a nice dinner experience & unfortunately it feel short. The food, drinks, you name it, took so long. The waiter was almost trying to sell us on the food & how good everything was. The food was good, but definitely not great. The poor couple sitting near us were seated before us, but only received their food after us. I felt so bad for them. I don't think I would go back, unfortunately. Great little spot for a beautiful lunch on the patio! Service was a bit slow but my table wasn't in a hurry so it didn't really matter. The food was beautiful! Nice side salad for the sandwich plates. I had the lamb burger on pita - it was deelish - but small. One friend had the French Dip Grilled Cheese and said it was good. It was regular sandwich size. My other friend had the B&B chop salad and it was huge. She probably had enough take home for dinner tonight. We all shared the chocolate cheesecake. It was amazing! Tucked away in north Mesa, Board and Batten provided a unique dining experience. Make reservations for dinner. The place offers a seasonal menu. We got there early and had drinks at the bar. Large drink menu to choose from. I highly recommend saving room for dessert!! The inside boasts contemporary white farm house style with seating both inside and outside. There is a venue space next door which can make for a louder environment experience if you sit outside. Great service and quality food and dining experience. Highly recommend. Not sure it's kid friendly for dinner. Would be interested in trying out lunch here sometime soon. read more

Been here twice. First had a southwest salad and second jas the beef sandwich au jus which was the best I'd ever tasted. The salad was excellent as well. I will definitely be back because the patio wraps around the building and is gorgeous. It was closed and didn't see any misters but it is summer. I found this restaurant via a Yelp search. It's a gem. I didn't have a reservation so my small party was seated inside. It was such a beautiful February evening. The outside dining looked so good...but the inside was very nice too. The openness of it and the big view of the outside seating made for a relaxing atmosphere. The menu is very interesting. I can't resist steaks so that's what I got. It was grilled to order and was tasty and tender. The sides were excellent. I'm definitely going to visit the next time I'm in the Phoenix area. Unresponsiveness, lack of customer care almost to the point of nastiness.   After dining at Board and Batten, my husband accidentally left his credit card in the "book" they give you with the receipt. They were closed Sunday and Monday - and it was unclear if they were opened on Tuesday as it was Veteran's Day. We live quite a bit away so tried to reach them to see when they would next be there so we could pick up the card.  After leaving many messages and even sending an email on Saturday and Tuesday - a woman finally answered the phone at 1:45 on Tuesday.   She sounded annoyed "yes we received your messages and our hours are listed on google and everywhere." I asked her if anyone would be there between 2:30 and 4:00 and she said yes, just to knock on the door. I told her we would be there. I also gently offered advice, from a customer's perspective, that it would have been helpful if someone called me back to let me know when someone would be there, to which she replied "I'm not going to argue with you. We are busy" and hung up on me.  Left me wondering if this woman/restaurant realized that they are only busy when they have customers. read more

Beautiful evening with family, dining alfresco on the gorgeous patio at Board and Batten. We started with drinks by the fire table, tasty beginning, Champagne for the ladies and a couple bourbon concotions off their speciality drink menu, perfect start. I thought it was great that they allowed us to relax before we went to out table, but those tasty drinks put us in the mood to dine. We choose to start with a bottle of Russian River Chard and a bottle of red blend, I very much impressed by the stylish stemware, both white and red wine glasses. The waiter was kind enough to decant the red and allow it to breath. Appetizers were next, Charcuterie Board, fried Artichokes hearts, fresh baked dinner rolls and pork belly, all so yummy. Entrees came 15 minutes after we were done with our appetizers, just enough time to relax and not feel rushed, both the ladies had ordered the salmon and the gentleman had ordered spring lamb and pork chops, I must say we shared everything and we all just raved about the wine, service and the food, really a special evening. Masa has a very chic and sophisticated establishment and an unmarked but delightful place for gourmet dining. Besides visiting for the famous turkey club sandwich which I am definitely going to order again, everything was just good. But then I was just wishing for more diligence. The Caesar salad was tasteless and smaller than what I had last time. They usually perform better than that; hence, I am looking forward to a more pleasant experience next time. read more
