The day of, Veronica and the team were welcoming and friendly, and the wait staff were extremely knowledgeable. It was clear they are passionate about what they do, as every recommendation they provided was top notch. Wanted to eat here for lunch and sit outside with our dog but when we asked about a table we were told the patio was full and since we didn't have a reservation they could not seat us. When looking at the patio there were literally only two tables out of the many that were in use and I noted that I tried to make a reservation online but there was no option for reserving a patio table. Very stuffy place and felt as though they turned us away. But that's ok bc in the end we went to Nates barbecue and that was amazing! read more

5 stars for not being a chain, for being well thought out, for having good food, and friendly staff. I wish there were more places like this in Mesa/Gilbert/Chandler. If I have one complaint it is that this is yet another restaurant that is all hard surfaces inside and therefore very loud. Great tucked away bistro with beautiful large trees, lights, table fire pits...the bistro interior has a modern flare, very nice. I certainly did not feel like I was in the desert. It was a nice change of scenery. But I felt like they were trying too hard to be a high end bistro. Most of the wait staff is friendly but I found them to be rather robotic. Trying too hard to impress. I asked for a house Merlot but they did not have it. I had a choice of a few wines on the menu all in the price range of $14 per glass. The wine I chose was ok. I didn't feel it was worth $14. The dish I had ordered was a rigatoni with sausage. I felt it was not all that flavorful. My friend ordered the same dish and agreed. My other friend ordered the Chicken Vesuvio which she said was very good. And we also ordered the honey rolls with apple butter. That was awesome! I feel the prices are rather high for the food. The portions I felt were just right on the entrees. But for the pricing it would be nice to offer complementary fresh bread and butter or include a small side salad on some of the main entrees. I unfortunately did not feel a connection with this establishment. This would be a second visit. My first visit we only had a drink and shared a very small portioned appetizer. Wanted to sit at a fire-pit table but the front hostess seemed all flustered with lighting the fire-pit. They seemed over overwhelmed. We would have stayed but again we did not get that comfortable vibe so we decided to leave after the drink and appetizer. I guess what enticed me to return was the ambiance. read more

Board & Batten is a cute restaurant off Stonebridge Manor. I've visited Stonebridge once prior for a friend's charming wedding and Board & Batten is equally as charming as the manor. The place is certainly beautiful though in an odd location behind a warehouse park. The service at B & B was good. However, they seemed to be training a new server while we were there so that was interesting. Having a secondary employee following the main one around was a bit weird. An introduction to the other individual instead of witnessing the odd situation would have been nice. The menu is simple and straightforward featuring fresh, local ingredients. The food was pretty good but the stand out for me was the Pastry Platter. Whoa! Three desserts to share (or not to share if that's your thing). Way to go straight to my heart (and thighs) Board & Batten! The bistro is the prefect spot for a work bunch, lovely birthday celebration, or ladies night. I came for a business meeting (lunch) and was so excited to try this place! The actual location/restaurant is GORGEOUS! I fell in love just driving up. I ordered the tomato, beet, and strawberry salad (delicious) and the group got an array of sandwiches and salads. Everything was delicious and fresh. But - holy moly when I tell you the dessert menu is a must, trust me! We decided for our group of 5, we'd try one of each (4 in total). The wedding cake, the caramel bar, the panna cota (sp?), and the special of the day which was a biscotti with raspberry and some sort of espresso/coffee something dip. EVERYTHING WAS PERFECT!! Just ok. Wanted to love this place because it's SO cute and hidden! Dinner was overpriced for what you get. One person at our table never got their food until everyone was already done eating. I cannot get enough of this place. I grew up in Mesa and take it for me there's not a lot, if any other places like this one. First of all the whole atmosphere before you even walk in is just gorgeous it's tucked away in the orange groves giving it a very cozy vibe. We came here with a small child and the staff was very accommodating and helpful. We got a couple different sandwiches both of which were absolutely amazing, we both cleared our plates. The kids meal grilled cheese was good enough for us adults to eat. You can tell they have excellent chefs here. I cannot wait to get back here and try some of their cocktails, and more of their food. I highly highly recommend this place, especially for the area that it's in absolute 10 out of 10. read more

We stopped by for lunch one afternoon. Despite hosting a wedding, there was still ample room on the patio outside. We chose to sit inside at the bar. Our bartender was a fill-in and pulling double duty as a server. Luckily we were not in a hurry, but we were definitely an afterthought and we got the feeling we were kind of intruding. They were also running out of certain dishes and where we sat at the bar happens to be near the service stand and the kitchen entrance, where controlled chaos was swirling just close enough for us to feel the pressure and tension. This combination lended itself to a feeling that it might be best to eat and run. The atmosphere is nice. A bit pretentious, but still maintaining a casual elegance. The drinks on the cocktail menu are pre-mixed, but good quality, well-balanced, and thoughtfully curated. We were discouraged from ordering drinks off-menu. The food was delicious! We would return, but maybe next time we would go on a weekday and opt for table service. read more

We had an absolutely amazing experience, from the moment we walked in it was perfect We started with the bacon wrapped dates, then we enjoyed sharing the salmon and the brick chicken. We ordered several appetizers, salads and three of us ordered the branzino in parchment. The others ordered pasta. All 3 branzinos were raw in the middle. Imagine raw steamed fish. Explanation given: it's a new item on the menu. While they offered to fix something else, we were no longer hungry. We finished with 3 desserts on the patio to make the most of the evening. The menu is diverse and creative, something for everyone. Millennials to seniors is what we've noticed, not for young kids. It's a touch pricey but perfect for a special occasion or date night. Two minor complaints: seems a little silly to be asked to wait for your table when you have an early reservation and only one other table is occupied. Secondly, 3 of us met for lunch. One left shortly after eating, two remained. About 45 minutes later, we asked for a glass of wine. Oh Board and Batten, how I love you so! This is by far one of my favorite restaurants in the Phoenix area. Every time I've been here I have left so happy. The food is so delicious and beautifully plated and the atmosphere is just beautiful. Get the French fries regardless of what else you order. You can message me and thank me after. They are so bomb! Salty, crispy and everything you'd want in a French fry. Drinks are amazingly delicious too. The place is beautiful inside and out but if weather permits, sit outside. It's so pretty with strung white lights and nice music. Perfect spot for a romantic date, or for a girls group brunch or dinner. Just great for everyone. The only minus but not enough to take a star Id that they're closed on Sunday so Sunday brunch is out. Not even on holidays like Easter or Mothers Day. On Thursday, March 27th myself and four friends had reservations for my friends 80th birthday celebration. Board and Batten was a restaurant she had on her radar she want to visit. When we arrived at 4:00 p.m., a very unfriendly male stood at the gate as if we were not welcome. He open the gate to allow us to enter, but in a very unfriendly manner. Once we were seated all the employees had the same disposition as, unfriendly, accept the young man who waited on our table. He was very friendly. All other staff working appeared very unhappy. Once our dinner was over we all agreed this is a place we would never return too. As we were leaving the unfriendly guy was again standing at the door and never once looked our way or said not one word. Also, a young lady was also standing there with him. I'll admit, I didn't know what a board and batten was until I had heard of this restaurant. When I saw the name and looked up what it was (A type of siding for walls) I initially thought it might be some type of interior design or a home improvement type store but instead found out they offer tasty sandwiches, salads, and soup. If this naming pattern becomes more common, maybe in a bizarro world there will be a home improvement store called Bread & Butter! The actual restaurant is right next to Stonebridge Manor and is owned by the same person. It's all very new construction and the building itself is quite a lovely sight to see, but in an odd part of town since the rest of the neighborhood aside from Stonebridge is more commercial property, and for now it's just a dirt lot right next to the building. There's plentiful outdoor seating as well as a nice indoor area. It was a nice day so we chose to sit outside. The menu is pretty simple, with fresh ingredients as key stars in each item. I went for the chopped salad at the recommendation of our server, and had an iced coffee to go with it. The iced coffee was pretty good, it had no bitterness or acidic flavor and I didn't need to add any sweeteners or cream to it. The salad looked lovely and was a pre-dressed combination of romaine lettuce, cherry tomatoes, bacon, avocado, pepitas, chicken, and roasted corn. The dressing was the perfect amount of basil-ranch, lightly sweet and creamy. I loved the combination of flavors and textures which harmonized well together. Wow! Best restaurant experience I have had in a LONG time. The best part of the restaurant was Greg, but everything else was a close second. We came in for a business meeting and stayed all night. The team was excellent and Greg was exceptional. He took us on a journey as he helped us pick out the perfect bottle of wine and made us feel like we were somewhere else as we drank it. He is knowledgeable, loves what he does and cares about people. There aren't many places you can go now days that provide more than a transactional experience, but we got that here. The food was divine, the drinks were perfect and the ambiance was exceptional. We will be back, and we will be referring everyone else to go. Can't say enough good! Ps. Get the cauliflower salad. My husband and I went to Board & Batten a couple weeks ago for date night. The server was very professional and explained everything in great detail. We ordered the sweet rolls and chopped wedge salad (without onions) for an appetizer. The set of 4 rolls were a bit too salty on top, but you could easily scrap off the salt. The chopped wedge salad was not what we expected though. We expected an actual wedge salad, but that was a misunderstanding for us, since chopped means mixed greens. The dressing was good and the salad was large enough to split. My husband and I split the prime flat iron steak with shoe string fries. We requested regular ketchup and not the spicy ketchup it comes with. Everything was done perfect and correctly! The flavors and temperature were just right. Our server asked if we wanted dessert, which we declined. He brought us a little dessert drink instead, which was a nice surprise. The meal and service were excellent. The inside of the restaurant doesn't look like it's fancy, in my opinion, but the service and food make you feel like you are in an upscale resort. We'd go back, but would dress down a bit next time to business dress versus a sequin dress. :) read more

Broccolitini was not overcooked and had a slight crunch. Wine list was not huge. Simple yet diverse. We ordered a bottle of Riesling which complemented the meal perfectly. The almond pound cake which was garnished with cherries was light and not overly sweet. Our server James was phenomenal. Overall experience was a nine out of 10. only reason for the one point deduction is it was a bit loud. We were able to make a reservation same day which was nice. Came here after friends told us about this cute place they've been wanting to check out. The second we parked, I had a feeling I would love this place. It's tucked away in an industrial area, but when you walk up to it, you are away to some other place. The outside is modern farmhouse style and very elegant. This place is popular for dinner parties. They have a cute front yard dining area with a fire pit and an indoor dining area as well. I tried the salmon pita which was delicious and the "I do" mimosa. My fiance had the pasta which was also very good. They are a little pricey, but totally worth it for the atmosphere.
