Very nice little place for lunch. I have not been here since several years ago so it was nice to come in to it today for lunch. It was super packed with people and even had multiple people behind us in line as we ordered. So it shows very many like this place for sure. The food we each had was good to eat and it was comfortable to sit and speak inside. To be a super historic place this is a cool place to grab some lunch and have multiple versions to select. The servers were all nice as well and the cleaning workers were constantly cleaning every single spot constantly so it was a nice clean and setup place. read more

It's been many years since we've visited here. All those years ago the mashed potatoes were loaded with black pepper (which I do not like personally). No longer! Yea! I had chicken and dumplings that were good. Had dark and light meat mixed in and I prefer only breast meat, but they were good and a large portion too. And no pepper! Yea again! A good selection of vegetables. Mine were Brussels sprouts and creamed corn. The corn was especially good. My husband had carrots, baked apples, and sweet potatoes and he said they all were good, especially the carrots. All large portions compared with other meat and threes. The young ladies in the serving line were extremely pleasant. A small dining area, so we left immediately after finishing our meal because the line was pretty long with people coming through and we didn't want anyone to have to wait for a table any longer than necessary. The table cleaners were there as soon as we stood up preparing for the next patrons. A great visit. We'll go again. read more

I purchased a quart container of chicken and dumplings to go. The total price rang up to be $32. When I questioned the price the cashier said that it was because it was a meat. Who knew cafeteria style food could be this good. Good home cooked food served big family style(sounds better than cafeteria). Pulled pork, moist and great sauce. Nice thick layer of more cheese baked into the Mac&Cheese. Both Hush Puppies and the corn bread are nice and sweet. they don't need any butter. Cinnamon apples would make any cobbler or pie proud. Banana Cream Pie, I can't resist it. This was nice creamy, not too sweet, lots of banana in it. Probably a good thing. It is not an all you can eat buffet. I would have tried everything. I was disappointed in our visit to Bluff Park diner tonight. It was pork chop night and I usually love their pork chops. Everything was just off tonight. My MIL ordered the child's plate because she doesn't eat a lot. As we were going through the food line, she asked if she could order the child's plate and have a pork chop with it. The girl serving said yes she could. I didn't really check the receipt when I first paid but started looking at the receipt at the table. Each of our meals was $1 more than what was shown as the price on the board above the food line. My MIL's "child's" plate was rung up as a Meat and 1 for just a little less than regular price. I mentioned to the girl checking people out that my MIL had ordered a child's plate for $6.99 and I was charged $10.99. She said, "oh, we don't let adults do a child's plate and then not with a pork chop." Huh. That's why we asked.... I'm just not sure why someone didn't just tell her this when she asked because she would have ordered differently. I also don't like being charged more at the register than I think I'm paying based on the advertised prices. With the $4 more for the non-child's meal and the $1 up charge for 4 people, I paid $8 more for this meal than expected. I'm fine with a price increase because I'm sure the restaurant's costs are more expensive. But, just tell me this and don't charge me more on the sly. Back to the pork chop. It was still good as always, but the turnip greens, green beans and black eyed peas were so salty. We couldn't eat them. Overall, it just wasn't a good visit this time. Went to Bluff Park Diner on the recommendation of a friend. Diner was updated, clean with digital menus and TVs for viewing enjoyment. Food was served cafeteria style with your choice of Meat and Three with an assortment of cakes, pies and cookies. Menu changes daily. Slightly expensive for this style of food. Paid $34.50 for a meat/3, meat/2, two deserts and two drinks. I chose the fried chicken breast with white gravy, Mac and cheese, cream corn and cinnamon apples, a roll and cookie for desert. My wife got the country fried steak and gravy, mashed potatoes with gravy, fried okra, roll and strawberry cake. Chicken breast was crisp and juicy, cooked well, white gravy was watered down and runny. Mac and cheese with cream corn was excellent. Cinnamon apples were bland and just plain. Roll had been in warmer too long and hard. Country fried steak was cooked from frozen, not homemade. Mashed potatoes were fair with runny, watery brown gravy. Fried okra was crisp and crunchy. Cookie was a warm and fresh, large chocolate chunk cookie. Excellent in my opinion. Strawberry cake was a "boxed" mix with little flavor that was coated with an over sugary, bland strawberry icing. Would have normally given two stars for food and price, but the modern, updated dining room, new cafeteria serving line and digital menus and TVs kept me at a 3 star. Overall food was fair but not worth the price. But located in nice area with bluff views and super nice community. read more

I travel to Hoover for work and am away from home a lot. I recently found this diner. It truly is amazing southern food. The staff is amazing, polite and courteous. It is truly a hidden gem in Hoover. It is well worth the adventure out to the Bluff and the view is amazing. You might even find Bigfoot. I highly recommend a visit to the diner. read more

When I arrived right at Noon. No wait to make selections in the cafeteria style line and plenty of available seating. I went with the recommended Country Fried Steak and pretty standard Mashed Potatoes & Green Beans with a Cornbread Muffin. When I got to the checkout after being disappointed with no Banana Pudding being available (apparently due to no bananas), I realized that they had not given me the requested Green Beans. So I had to wait briefly while they brought me a bowl of them. Everything was good, but nothing special. Menu appears to be basically unchanged from the posted 2 years ago other than the prices. I will give them another chance. If only to try the Chicken & Sausage Gumbo from the Tuesday & Friday Daily Specials. read more

I ordered the country fried steak and it was crispy and well seasoned, but very thin... if that steak had been pounded any longer it would have been the size of a hubcap and only one sided. Good but not great. This place attracts a bit older crowd, I was the youngest in the dining room for the majority of our meal and I won't see the low side of fifty ever again. I've driven by this place many times, and I finally got to try it out. A great meat and three. I got the BBQ chicken, black eyed peas, fried okra, turnip greens, and cornbread. All for 11 something dollars. A great price for this amount of quality and quantity. I noticed in particular that the BBQ chicken was very tender and juciy and that the fried okra was uniquely fried to a light, fluffy crisp - not too heavy or soggy batter. This is one of the greatest little places in bluff park. It's in the old part of commercial bluff park that was built many years ago. The food is always good and fresh.
