Good veggies; very small and not a lot of ambiance but food and service were good. We got take out.

Service at the bar was good considering every seat at the bar was taken. We ordered our food and it was out within 15-20 minutes. I ordered the Nashville hot chicken, but subbed the sides for the whole fried okra and Gouda grits. When I say those grits and okra hit.....somebody in that kitchen knows what they're doing! The chicken breasts were juicy and flavorful. The spice level was typical for Nashville hot chicken, which I sometimes I can't take. But I loved the flavor so much I couldn't stop eating it. I will eat here again when I return to the city!

It had a good energy right away. I had been looking at a few things on the menu and was really going back and forth. I was interested in the hot chicken, the Brussels sprouts, and also the ribeye Philly cheesesteak. They told me both were really good, and I ended up going with the ribeye Philly cheesesteak. Great choice. I also got a side salad with the chipotle ranch dressing and that was very good too. Picture below. For dessert, I was planning on getting the key lime pie, because that is usually my move, but Hayden my server talked me into trying the blueberry cobbler cheesecake instead. I am glad he did. It was very good. Picture below. Between the crowded room, the good service, and the food, this was a very strong experience all the way around. I am giving The Southern Kitchen & Bar 5 stars.

It's kind of hard to tell what all the food options are, so I had to ask what some stuff was. I managed to get a meat and 2 instead of a meat and 5! There were quite a few veggie options that looked amazingly delicious! I do not recommend coming here hungry or hangry. Ok, sooo I love meat loaf so naturally that's what I got. I also got collards and cornbread dressing & yes they had cranberry sauce. Everything was good tasting. The meatloaf was a little sweet to my taste so I probably wouldn't order it again. The veggies were not over seasoned or overcooked. I will definitely comeback here bc there is still just so much I wanna try. The staff is nice and took care of the crowd. I even witnessed them give a person in need food, as they were about to dig in the restaurant's garbage can outside for scraps. Made me count my blessings.. all of them! There is street parking only. I didn't have any issues parking on a Sunday afternoon. The inside of this restaurant is not big but I was comfortable dining in.

Only about 3 people at a time can hold inside before it's starts getting crowded. It stay pretty busy. Options are 1 meat with two sides or 2 meats with three sides combination. A la cart is available as well. They have ice tea or lemonade drinks in a cup that they also serve you. Lemonade was good. There's a very small counter to pay after you order. Fry chicken is tasty with perfect crisp. Collard greens were seasoned well and perfect texture. Yams (my favorite) was perfect - flavorful, not too sweet and firm but not hard. Both of us thought the Black eyed peas looked really good but taste bland. I would have preferred it without the Okra. I didn't see that when I ordered. One in our group commented the meat loaf was good. The dressing was really good too - well seasoned and tasty. After paying there's a dining area for self seating. It serves the purpose to sit and eat but definitely could use sprucing up along with the restrooms. Please seriously consider! It would make the experience much more pleasant to enjoy their delicious food. I took off two stars for that reason and yes it's that unpleasant as the tables/chairs are also too clustered together. The chairs don't fit around the table properly. Overall good southern food at a reasonable price and recommended. Skip dining in if you don't have too. Just my two cents.

I'm not personally a fan of mayonnaise, so I skipped the Alabama white sauce, but my guest ordered it and really liked it. If that style of sauce is your thing, it seems to be well executed here. The French fries were cooked well, though I found myself wishing there was a house seasoning or something on the table to switch up the flavor profile a bit. The collard greens were also delicious -- tender and nicely prepared, with most of the stems removed, though there were still a few more than I would have preferred. Where the experience dipped was service. We were seated in a back corner, and it took quite a while to get assistance from servers throughout the meal. It didn't feel intentional, just a bit overlooked. The restaurant itself is in a very cool, older building with character. The historic feel is part of its charm, though aesthetically it does feel a little worn in places -- understandably so given the age of the space. Overall, the food is strong and worth trying, especially the chicken. With more attentive service, it would easily elevate the experience.

After being seated, I noticed how colorful and whimsical the decor was. But because it was so crowded, I didn't get a lot of pictures. I ordered the garden veggie scramble with the moon dusted potatoes and a side of beyond sausage. My guy ordered the waffle breakfast. The food was just as delicious as we remembered it to be. The star is always those creamy grits. I'm not sure how they make them, but I wish they would tell me their secret. The biscuits are always light and fluffy, and with the apple butter that comes with it, it's a match made in heaven. Pro Tip: I've ordered food from here courtesy of DoorDash but it's always been a disaster. The order was always missing random items or I received the wrong order. I do not recommend ordering through a 3rd party; go in person if at all possible.

Unfortunately, food falls far short of the stars I had hoped to find here. While service was friendly and quick, the food that was delivered simply did not score well. Chicken and Brisket were our choices and they both lacked depth of flavor. Most importantly - both were quite dry. (Chicken skin was moist and crisp, but meat was not. We all know chicken dries out pretty quickly.) I was especially disappointed by the brisket. (Good brisket is one of my frequent nation-wide food quests.) The brisket shown in my photos should be moist and tender, with a slight glisten on the surface and a bit more color on the edges. But, you can see how dry my serving was - (FYI no altering of the photo on my part.) : -( Sides received mixed reviews from us. Star of the whole show were the collards - savory and served piping hot. Okra had a nice light coating and not greasy at all - but they were not very warm (temperature). Potato salad was pretty plain. Marinated coleslaw got one thumbs up and one down from us. It reminded me very much of old-fashioned vinegar chowchow minus the other veggies; biggest downside to it was the size and inconsistency of the shreds...just too clunky. Spicy jalapeño mini muffins....excellent. Plain white bread? (no butter or spread?) Wish I had ordered the baked beans (2 kinds). And a last note - sauces were thin and simply not memorable, lacking true character. Locals....please keep coming here...I'm sure there are combos we did not try that are pleasing. But as for us, we need to keep travelin' on.
