I never go out of my way to write reviews, but I am SO thankful this place opened! I have been here twice for emergency visits, once for my cats and once for my dog. Both times I had an amazing experience! The staff is friendly and caring, from the receptionist to the nurses and the vets I am just so thrilled with my experience. Both visits they went above and beyond to help me and my animals and did it without costing me an insane amount of money! I will NEVER go to any other Emergency vet again! I highly recommend this place! Especially if you have an emergency situation! Your pets are in amazing hands here! read more

Brought my dog in for an emergency. No one was in the emergency room yet was told I had to wait until the shift change to be seen which was in 40 mins. Waited with my crying and overly anxious dog and then was told the doctor came in at 7:30am. After another 50 mins waiting (8:20am) and seeing other dogs being brought back and no sight of the vet I asked how long and was told a minimum of 20 mins because there was only one doctor and she was with another dog. After almost 2 hours of waiting with a crying and anxious dog I left. How is that possible when I was the first person there and no one was there?! I understand that maybe other dogs might have been "more urgent" but to have me and my highly allergic dog wait for 2 hours without a doctor coming in for 5 mins is unacceptable!! Especially since I was there bright and early with an absolutely empty waiting room. read more

I am a local veterinarian who happens to have a dog with a significant heart problem. My dog has seen Dr. Andrea Eriksson on numerous occasions. I cannot speak highly enough about the professionalism and compassion of Dr. Eriksson and the entire team at Blue Pearl, Paramus. Additionally, our practice routinely refers complicated cases to Blue Pearl. The specialists are very responsive and attentive to both our needs as well as our client's/patient's needs. Our clients frequently thank us for referring them to Blue Pearl. I am very sorry that you lost a beloved pet. However, please understand that veterinarians and their staff always have the best interest of your pet in mind. Everyone in this field is dedicated to the welfare of animals. That is why we became veterinarians, technicians, kennel staff and even receptionists. I would also like the readers of this review to understand that Mars, (yes, "the candy company") owner of Blue Pearl, has an entire division dedicated to pets. In fact, Mars Petcare is the largest part of the Mars company. They provide outstanding support to the veterinary hospitals that they own. You clearly had a bad experience. And again, I am truly sorry that your pet passed away. However, please understand that your review will do more harm than good. read more

Some of the kindest people I've ever met. They really made my visit much less stressful than it could have been. I was very well informed with every step which was taken. Thank you for your very professional kindness. read more

We have used a number of the Blue Pearl services for our pets - for emergencies (our puppy ate something she shouldn't have eaten; an elderly cat with a mouth infection), for specialized surgery (a rare foot tumor in one of our cats), and for diagnostic and ongoing care for a malignant condition (both general medical and oncology services). We are always greeted warmly by the receptionists and feel that our pets have received loving and exceptional veterinary services from the medical, oncology, and surgical staff, as well as the vet techs. The vets explain treatment options and we work closely with them to identify the best approach for our pets. I would recommend this place in a heartbeat. read more

I brought Bella in on an emergency basis. Referred by my vet Healing Paws. Everyone was so kind and sympathetic. They did not try to get me agree to tests that were not necessary as they knew my financial situation. The entire office and examination room were impeccably spotless and clean. I highly recommend their services. read more

We recently took our one year old dog here for consultation/treatment on the recommendation of my regular vet for a potentially life-saving surgery (she ate something she should not have eaten). While I think the care was good - in that my dog has recovered well and is still living, I think the price here was extraordinary. We paid about $8,000 for surgery. I am not sure how people can afford such prices. Given how much we paid, I expected serious follow up and more one on one feedback; I did not receive this. I had to call to find out updates on my dog, which is stressful to say the least. I will say that the facility is impeccable. The doctors/surgeons especially are very compassionate and were willing to answer my questions during the intake process - it was just the outpatient part that was less than stellar. That being said, I'd bring my dog back. read more

We brought our very sick dog who was not doing well on a Sunday morning. We feared she wouldn't make it until Monday. The staff couldn't have been more respectful and kind to us. Even with COVID-19 going on, we were thankfully the hospital allowed us in and placed us in a private area so we could be with our beloved dog, who brought us so much joy over the years. It was beyond comforting to be with her as she transitioned to a better place, free of pain. It was a very difficult day but as I said everyone we came in contact with was so nice, understanding and patient with us. We are grateful we came here. read more

Please stay away. My dog was to be given life saving medication immediately, according to the cardiologist's orders, and it was an emergency. The nurse did not give it to her for 3 hours! Dr. Davidson the supervising doctor did not even appear to notice! She died. These have to be some of the coldest and most callus medical people I have ever had the extreme displeasure of dealing with and it is not surprise as they are owned by the conglomerate candy company Mars!!! They actually yelled at me while my dog was on the table receiving CPR and said "see all those other dogs behind us. Now we are neglecting them for your dog!" Just horrific. I have all of the medical records. . I believe this was gross negligence and malpractice. It seems they just threw her in the oxygen tank and forgot her. I believe they killed my dog. It appears, from the records, that no one even took her vitals between 4pm and 8pm and her breathing had become much worse. She did not appear to be attended to by Dr. Davidson or anyone else. It was absolutely horrific and my beautiful little dog is dead and she was only 8 years old! The guilt over taking her to a place that would neglect her like that is overwhelming. To this day not Dr. Davidson, not the medical director Christian Eriksson, not the hospital administrator Tracy have ever called me back despite numerous messages left. The unprofessionalism here is astounding. It seems vet techs are promoted to customer relations specialists and practice managers with no business background or customer service experience whatsoever. This is what you will be dealing with if you go to this hospital. It is corporate run (owned by Mars)and all about (and only about) the money. Be aware that some vets today have quotas to fill and are told by the practice that they have to bring in a certain amount of money each week. This puts the animals at profound risk of neglect and/or unnecessary procedures. It should not be allowed by law. Also curious is that three of the 5 star reviews came in right after my dog died there! Are they for real? The timing is very suspicious. You decide. Also deplorable is that the hospital, administrator, dr's, etc cannot find the time to return my calls, but when their reputation is on the line with Yelp they can find the time to respond to a Yelp review..seriously? This is profoundly disturbing on so many levels and just speaks to my point about their unprofessionalism and lack of caring. I am beyond devastated over my dog. We went to BluePearl after a terrible experience at a previous animal hospital in Clifton. I have to say that BluePearl is incredible. We had to put our dog down today and it was so heartbreaking. And going through what we did at the first place was so difficult but coming here, we had no issues. The staff was terrific and extremely sympathetic towards my family and I. And even with the safety precautions needed for COVID-19, they had the gear for 2 of our family members to say our last goodbyes to him in a private area. We are thankful for this place and for giving us the opportunity to say a proper goodbye to him. I highly recommend going here. read more

BluePearl was wonderful when I came home from vacation to a sick cat. They were caring, reasonable, and very fast.

We needed to have our dog seen on a Sunday morning. I called ahead and was told to bring her right in. We were greeted & taken into an exam room within a few minutes. The nurse was very nice & took her vitals before Dr. Beverly came in. He was very soft spoken & very nice. We were given an estimate on blood work, which we declined being she had no fever and no infection was suspected. After examining my dog twice, he told us what he suspected & we were given steroids for inflammation & pain management. There was positive improvement within 24 hours and we where charged $164 for the visit + approx. $20 for the rx. Very happy. read more

Our first visit to Blue Pearl for an emergency ultrasound for our dog could not have been more pleasant under the circumstances. This was my first emergency visit there and the most difficult kind, knowing I was getting verification that my Angi Mae, GSD, time was needing to end due to cancer at a young age. A lung mass showed up on an x-ray of our 10-year-old Berner. Our vet referred us to Bluepearl in Paramus. After $5100 in diagnostics they still didn't know the type of tumor and all they could say about metastasis was, there doesn't appear to be any but it couldn't be ruled out. In other words, all those expensive tests had no concrete results to guide proper treatment. They recommended surgery. We were uneasy about putting our dog through the risks and trauma of major surgery without getting a second opinion. Took our dog to PetCure Oncology where a board-certified medical oncologist took over our dog's care. Had to do another $3000 in diagnostics due to the poor quality ultrasound results from Bluepearl, more aspirations because Bluepearl didn't get any usable cells for testing (PetCure makes sure they have a good sample before they send it to the lab) and testing on the liver and spleen that Bluepearl didn't do. Turns out surgery is NOT the right treatment. We are shocked at how careless and incompetent Bluepearl was with their testing and at recommending surgery with so many unknowns. If you love your pet do not take them to Bluepearl. They have a gorgeous waiting room to impress you when you walk in, but the staff who do the important work in the back are subpar. read more

We wanted to write this brief note to express our undying gratitude to all the staff at Blue Pearl, for the ceaseless efforts they expended in treating our dog Jasper over the almost two weeks he spent in the facility on Rt 17.. We were absolutely heart-broken, when he became so ill and frankly were at the point of accepting that he would not recover and thus have to be put to sleep. Doctor Al Ghazalat talked us off the cliff edge and showed such optimism and determination with him that went far and above what we ever expected. Every single person, from the amazing doctors Al Ghazlat, Ericksson and Bonczynski, the nurses whose names are too many to mention, Kristin and all the front desk and administration staff with whom we had contact were simply wonderful, empathetic, helpful, professional and diligent without fault. Care and attention of the absolute highest quality. We cannot praise the staff or facility enough. PS Jasper is making an amazing recovery. read more

Our 16 year old dog Luke got sick on a Sunday afternoon. He has always been healthy and we were concerned when he started vomiting and wouldn't eat or drink. It got to the point where he just sat and stared and wouldn't even walk. Our vet's office was closed and a friend referred us to Blue Pearl. We had a bad experience with Oradell Animal Hospital. We called ahead and brought our Lukey over carrying him up in a bath towel. They took him right in and immediately took blood and X-rays. We waited about an hour and we were told it looked like he had kidney failure and an inflamed Pancreas. We left him overnight for observation and an ultrasound. Unfortunately, he was too sick and too old for us to consider further treatment. He was suffering and he was just too old to handle any major surgery. The staff was very understanding and compassionate about our dog and our decision for euthanasia. If he were a younger dog we would have proceeded with his recovery. Our vet was notified the next Monday and was given the results of all the tests and our decision. He agreed they did all the right tests and took good care of our dog. They did ask for payment upfront and it did cost a lot for all the tests. We can understand this policy. Our own vet would have billed us later but Blue Pearl usually sees their patients for the first time and have to ensure that they get paid. I can see how some can be upset to have to pay a high bill right after losing a loved pet. I really feel they did all that they could and were compassionate. We are still depressed over the loss of our dog. BP couldn't save him and we had to pay a lot for the tests. It just seems unfair but this would have been the same outcome no matter where we brought him. High marks for being there and caring. read more

I have only used this hospital once and it was a very rewarding experience especially after a horrific episode with my previous dog at the place across the highway (Oradell animal hosp.) Amazing, wonderful staff and great compassionate care. I took my savannah cat here for what I thought was a dire emergency and it ended up to be something simple. The staff worked with me, listened to me and did what I wanted, taking into consideration my expertise. I would not hesitate to recommend Blue Pearl for emergencies. They are pricey, but so are all ER Vets. I do wish more of these facilities would work with clients to facilitate ease in payment. I have pet insurance, but it will take two weeks to be reimbursed. Perhaps Blue Pearl would allow the pet insurance to pre approve treatment and then allow the client to pay his/her deductible and accept payment from pet insurance. People should not have to choose between their pet and euthanasia because of $$$$$ read more

We showed up with our dog in respiratory distress we followed the COVID protocol and waited outside for the doctors call. When Dr Friedlander called and my fiancé who is in animal rescue asked a few questions to determine what the course of treatment would be and the doctors impatience and response was so beyond anything I would have ever expected from a professional. She was both unkind and unprofessional while my girl was crying she explained that the dog was trying to die and when we expressed our shock at how she was speaking to us she told us to take the dog and go to oradell. Needless to say I am typing this from the oradell parking lot where we were treated with kindness and empathy. I am still in shock how she spoke to us even the orderlies apologized so I assume this is a common occurrence with this Dr Friedlander. I am sure the rest of the staff do they're job with kindness but I would never allow Dr Friedlander to treat even an insect please be careful with your pets and if she gets your case run. read more

I cannot say enough good things about the level of care my dog and I received at Blue Pearl in Paramus. After two surgeries and many (pointless) visits to AERA, my 6 year old goldendoodle was still in pain. I decided to take him for a second opinion and made an appointment with Dr Bonczynski. First off, I just want to say that I wish Dr B could be MY doctor. She went above and beyond to do a thorough examination, review his old records and walk me through a treatment plan. He ended up needing a third surgery, to which she explained every step of and called every day after to see how he was doing. It has been 6 months since his surgery and he is back to running around like a puppy. I can not recommend Dr B and the rest of the Blue Pearl staff. If I could give 100 stars, I would! read more

I have to be honest as a life long resident paramus as well as a victim of the over priced Oradel Animal hospital i was excited to see an additional animal hospital set up shop in town. My original hope was that they would offers competitive prices for emergency visits considering at least every person you know who has needed an emergency visit complains about Oradel Animal hospital. Today that hope was shattered. This morning i went in with my cat because she had started to lose weight while her appetite remained healthy. The doctor came in and spent if I had to give a rough estimate probably no exaggeration 4 minutes with us. After that we were advised the vet would need blood work in order to accurate diagnose. Upon check out i nearly fainted when the total was 550 dollars. Considering the cat is only 8 pounds and the doctor spent minimal time in my opinion this was as over priced as Oradel. So like i said in the event of an emergency personally and my recommendation to anyone who asks I'd rather pay the prices at Oradel considering the reputation they have built rather than spend my money at a brand new clinic. I gave them two stars simply because the office staff seemed nice enough and the fact they did see us rather quickly. read more

The renovation is veryly new and the staff and doctor was polite and informative. I was referred here by my usual to go place (meisel animal hospital in fair lawn) but I had no choice but to come due to overbookment that day. But for the treatment for my cat who has urinary Obstruction, he was given a shot of antibiotics, pain killers, and 9 tablets of priozen (to help urinate easier) price came out to 400+ when I now for a fact I could get that done for half the price at meisel animals hospital.. Little dissapointed but they did help my cat out so I'm grateful. In all, I didn't expect any less of the price for a 24/7 er read more

These are hard times dealing with all the precaution for COVID. When I had to lay my beautiful baby Lucky (16 years old) to rest, the first ER needed me to hand her over so they can put her down with out me. I couldn't bring myself to do it, so they told me about blue pearl. They allowed my brother and me to be present during the process. The plaque where they put her little paws is so beautiful. My baby only had 3 legs (she had cancer 3 years ago in her joint so we had her leg amputated) so I requested if they can fit all 3 paws on one plaque. She only weighed 6 lbs, she was always a small Kitty. When I picked up Lucky's (my cats name) remains and saw her 3 paw prints and how much thought/ love was put into her package with her remains, I cried. Everything was beautiful. Blue pearl genuinely cares for your animals. I have the deepest respect for them as they treated my baby with love and honor. read more

Blue Pearl's compassion and heart came through during one of the most heartbreaking moments of our lives. We had to lay our 9 month old kitten, Tuna, to rest. Sadly, our kitten was misdiagnosed by his vet and instead of the vets original diagnosis of Cerebral Hypoplasia which is non-progressive and kittens are born with, Tuna instead was later diagnosed with FIP, a fatal diagnosis with no good outcome. Due to COVID-19, my vet (soon to be ex) wanted me to hand him over so they can put him down without us present. I couldn't bring myself to do that, so I called around and found Blue Pearl. They allowed my husband and I to be present during the process, which Doctor Bloom explained to us thoroughly and thoughtfully, giving us the time and support we needed for goodbye. One of the most painful things I had to do but I would not have had it any other way. That kitten meant that much to us. Tuna's favorite thing to do was to snuggle and be around people. I knew I had to be there and snuggle him and Blue Pearl allowed me to do that. I have the deepest gratitude for them as they treated our baby with love and respect. Special thanks to Betty. Will always treasure the paw prints she made for us and the love and the care she showed us and Tuna before and after he was gone. The world needs more people like you, Betty. read more

I will spare you all the details and medical history of our sweet dog, Coco. Our family had to make a very difficult decision to let her go and end her pain and suffering. I can't even begin to tell you how painful that was and still is for our family. We went to BluePear at the recommendation of our regular vet. The staff greeted our family and Coco with tenderness, compassion and empathy. We were a complete mess and had great difficulty communicating without emotion. The staff was so tender and supportive to us and Coco. They patiently took her medical history and gave her a medical exam to determine what our options were. Our worse fear was confirmed when it was clear to us that no medical option was available to cure her. The staff explained the process to us and our options. I can't tell you how wonderful the staff and doctors are at BluePearl. They were compassionate, professional and empathic to both us and Coco. They truly made a very difficult decision and situation better. I will definitely recommend them to others and use them again when we are ready for another four legged baby! read more

When our vet of 12+ years referred me to blue pearl I was skeptical just because I had never entrusted our dog's care to anyone else. Blue pearl had a staff internist and Rudy needed an ultrasound. However within five minutes after arriving I was encouraged by the professionalism and courtesy I experienced at this present-day pristine facility. I was brought into the room and Rudy was given a thorough exam and the staff member asked me numerous questions regarding my dogs current behavior and symptoms. The ultrasound was completed within 15 minutes and I was called back immediately to speak with the internist Dr. Suliman Al-Ghazlat. Unfortunately, it was in fact a cancer diagnosis which was delivered in a gentle, compassionate and informative manner. After discussing potential options, Dr. Suliman Al-Ghazlat reassured me he would be available to answer any questions/concerns once I reviewed his report. True to his word he reached out to me first even before I got in touch with him. When it became evident Rudy was not responding to palliative care treatment 4 weeks later, I returned to have him re-evaluated. I met with a wonderful vet tech who kindly and sympathetically told me my Golden Doodle was only going to get worse and it may be time to consider the inevitable. It was at this time I was lucky enough to encounter yet another staff member I had neither ever met or seen. (I only wish I knew his name, but his kindheartedness I will not forget). Apparently going off duty, this genuine animal lover instinctively turned around as he saw Rudy struggling to get up on his hind legs. Long story short, he went back into blue pearl to get gloves and a towel and hoisted my 68lb dog up in the towel, carrying him into the elevator and putting him into the car for me. It's is rare to find this kind of caring in today's busy world. And I certainly appreciated it at this very difficult time. Thank you to all !! read more

We were so very impressed with how everyone handled our dying dog and the entire situation. As soon as we got there the secretaries called for Canine stat, the nurse arrived, asked us a few questions and then took our dog in right away, placed an IV. We explained she was 13 years old, quickly deteriorated and we thought it was better to let her die in peace and pain free. They put us in a very home type room and explained they would bring her in to us and then the doctor would come with the meds. The nurse explained what was going to happen and allowed us to pay at that point so we could just leave after. (The price was incredibly reasonable we were expecting 3 times that). They made our dog cozy, with a towel for pillow and cozy blanket. They gave us as much time as we needed and we rang a bell when we were ready. The doctor came in and gave the meds and stayed with us. Once the doctor heard the heart stopped, she gave us a nod and left the room to give us more time. For an extremely heart reaching experience, everything was so professional, timely, clean, caring and affordable !!!! Thank you Blue Pearl read more
