Before I decided to write this review, I took some time to carefully read through other reviews for your ER service for pets to see if it was just us that had a terrible experience or if it was a common theme to mistreat an animal so badly. Unfortunately, I noticed it wasn't just us who had to experience the agony like we did on Halloween night. Let me start off by saying I'm not sure how this place is even labeled as an emergency service. As someone who works in healthcare in a rough city, I am utterly disgusted with Dr. Kim Friedlander and her inhuman lack of compassion for our dog, Buck. To give a short background, our dog, Buck has recently suffered from what seems to be some sort of neurological deficit making him lose his balance, walk with a head tilt, and just act 'goofy'. It seemed like he had a stroke or TIA; the symptoms were all there but what do we really know? We returned home from vacation on Saturday and noticed it immediately, we gave it a few hours to see it was something that he could sleep off but it just seemed to get worse. Of course, we began to panic. We immediately put him in the car and headed to First Pet ER where we were diverted to Blue Pearl. As we arrived, we carefully explained Buck is extremely afraid of any type of vet setting. On top of his fear of the vet he was also scared as to what was happening to him. He put up a good fight and we had to muzzle him to get him inside. During this fight Buck lost control of his bowels. Something was terribly wrong. Due to Covid, we weren't allowed inside but after arguing with a few techs who just calmly stood around with their fingers in their ass, they finally let my boyfriend go inside with him. However, there was 1 tech with long brown hair (unsure her name) who did her best to help us, she was upset when buck lost control of his bowels and agreed we needed to immediately get him inside (for which we thank you!) I waited in the car crying because it's heartbreaking to see Buck so scared and so upset. He is the most well-behaved dog I have ever known. Inside Buck was still putting up a fight to be analyzed and assessed. He needed to be calmed down or sedated. Something, anything! Clearly, this is an emergency. As I was sitting in the car, I see my boyfriend walk down the ramp with Buck and can noticeably see he was crying and shaking. Come to find out, the vet (Dr. Kim Friedlander) REFUSED TO SEE OUR SICK DOG. He's covered in his own feces, unaware of his surroundings, and we had to carry him into the back of the car and head to the 3rd Pet ER. I've worked in 2 emergency rooms for people, 1 being in Camden NJ, and I have NEVER seen a doctor in ANY emergency situation EVER refuse treatment, no matter how combative a patient was. So, please explain to me why in the hell would a vet refuse treatment for our dog in an emergency situation?! In the car we had to pull ourselves together and think about Buck. This is the part where I realized we humans don't deserve dogs and I think he had the right idea. Dogs are so intuitive to people and situations and I firmly believe he could sense bad energy at Blue Pearl. By the other reviews I've read, he was right. Also, by the reviews, it's seems like it's a gamble for which animal they choose to help and which animal they choose to reject. Buck has spent 8 years taking care of his (our) family and it was our responsibility to take care of him. So, we did just that. We took him down the street to VEG and called the doctor to let him know the situation and how scared he is. Buck walked right into this place. Almost like he knew he was going to be in better care. Almost like he knew how despicable Dr. Friedlander was going to be towards him. Dr. Saunders at VEG was nothing short of amazing. He tried, that's all we could ask for. He helped us in the moment, he calmed us down, and he did his absolute best to help our situation. Please do not take your animal to Blue Pearl, if you want better care simply drive right down the road to VEG. You will not regret it.
I have lost sleep over the sequence of events that transpired at Blue Pearl Saturday night. I am sick to my stomach about it. I think what truly angers me the most is you let 2 people; a sick dog covered in his own feces, have to figure it out. He wouldn't even look at us in the car. He was muzzled in the corner of our SUV shaking. I have no idea how you consider yourself a Vet, Dr. Friedlander, but maybe you should take this time to self-reflect on being the kind of doctor you want to be, because what you did (and didn't do) has landed you this horrible review. read more
