I didn't have much appetite last night so I ordered half portion of the tuna tataki from the Eat Well Menu plus a side of broccolini. The tuna was great but I didn't care for the pickled daikon and carrot, as I prefer fresh daikon and carrots a lot more. Tonight my appetite was better so I ordered the pan seared salmon that came with 2 sides. I don't get collard greens in the San Francisco bay area so I chose that and broccolini again. I had the misfortune of being stuck in Dallas for a week, but luckily I was stuck somewhere with pretty darn good food. The Blue Fire Grill is a lovely establishment that serves great southwest fare; one which can easily meet all my client entertainment needs (although luckily, I didn't have any this trip). I had the soup of the day - which thanks to sleep deprivation, I can't remember what it was... only that it was "cream" based (or more appropriately, butter based). It was yummy, and after the first sip, I knew I must prepare myself to feel my artery clogging as the buttery goodness infiltrates my blood stream... oooo yeah. To stay with the heart attack theme, I skipped the salad and ordered the southwest fillet stake... sooo good to eat, sooo bad for your heart.... not to mention bad for my carbon neutrality (something about Texas - when I'm back, I somehow revert back to the "carbon-foot-what?" way of thinkin'). My one gripe is that they forgot to bring me my rolls (but they did give me creamy butter, which I ended up eating straight up, 'cause I'm weird like that - I LOVE butter)... the only thing that could have completed this meal of death was a couple of strips of bacon wrapped around the stake. I was transferred only to sit on the phone ring after ring! I decided to walk my happy ass downstairs to see what was up and I stood at the bar for about 5 minutes with no acknowledgement. Cool! I reached for anyone that looked like they worked there and asked if someone could take an order. They informed me that it would be closer to 45 minutes to PLACE AN ORDER!!! Wtf, man?? Nah. Three Star food with Four Star service. The food was just okay and nothing special. Our service was very good and when they forgot my main course (pizza) he gave me a drink on him. I had a calamari appetizer that was very bland and my margarita pizza was nothing to write home about. My coworker had wings and a pizza and he also thought it was just okay. The atmosphere is good and it's a great place to grab and drink and watch a game. As far as dinner, I would look elsewhere. read more

We straddled up to the bar happy to see 3 of the 6 beers on tap were Texas craft beers. I also liked the mostly US west-coast wine list but the mark-up made me order beer. But later I noticed Texas-size wine pours... Fun bar menu that was reasonably priced and most items are ideal for sharing. Regular menu includes appetizers, a decent selection of sandwiches, and entrees that come at a hefty price. Overall this restaurant and bar lacked the sophistication commonly associated with Weston Hotels. Bar staff was attentive and friendly on the slow evening we were hanging at the bar. Buffalo chicken sandwich was excellent. French fries were average. Texas dip, reputed to be their specialty, was tender and tastiest when eaten with the accompanied spicy ranch dressing. Best steak I've ever eaten , including any steakhouse that specializes in meat . It was enough for two but somehow I managed to eat every morsel . Ice cold Shiner Bock at the bar was perfect. Cobb Salad was excellent. Texas Nachos were weak. Big pile of good crispy tortilla chips, good guacamole, but not nearly enough cheese. For a hotel restaurant at a nice chain, this gets a 3, for a restaurant generally, the BlueFire Lounge gets a 2. I ate here out of necessity as I didn't have a car and there isn't really much food within walking distance of the Westin. I've eaten at lots of hotel restaurants , and I found this to be on the less-well-executed end of the scale (this Westin's breakfast buffet is pretty great, though). I wasn't expecting gourmet, but I did expect competency. On that count, delivery was ehhhhh. On the plus side, every member of the waitstaff was attentive, friendly, and efficient. I got seated immediately, my order came quickly, and I was able to get my bill paid and leave very expediently. My wine was a little overpriced, but chilled to the right temperature and pretty tasty. It's hard to screw up a wine pour so I'll give them full credit for the good wine. But on to my food. I ordered the salade Niçoise and it was by far the worst of its kind I have ever had. I was almost embarrassed for this poor salad and how bastardized its creation was. Much like, say, a Manhattan, it has few ingredients and a very simple preparation, but when it's made wrong, it's awful (NB: don't you dare muddle a fluorescent maraschino cherry in my Manhattan!). This salad had sad wedges of pale, underripe tomatoes, some questionably fresh tuna that was a tad on the overcooked side (which probably spared me from food poisoning; I had to discard a strange tasting piece), a from-the-bottle balsamic, and competently made hard boiled eggs, potatoes, and green beans. I ate it because I was hungry, but I wasn't happy with it. And I didn't feel like I could tell the staff here that they had no idea how to make this salad, yknow? The wine helped temper my bitterness, but I hope I won't be eating here again anytime soon. read more

Attended a convention recently at the host hotel, and ate lunch here on three consecutive days from a specially created menu for con attendees: my meals were the SW Cobb salad bookending a buffalo wrap. The salads were fresh and tasty, but the ingredients and quantity varied considerably. The first time I had ample avocado, fresh Romas and egg. The latter had half as much of each, but compensated with a pile of roasted peanuts and twice if not three times as many black olives. Again, all ingredients were fresh. I found the second time too salty also. The wrap I wasn't too pleased with. The tortilla wrap was toasted to the point of crispy and crumbling, and consisted of nothing more than grilled chicken slathered in the buffalo sauce. Fries were all stuck together and greasy too. I had heart burn before finishing. I would have probably ordered the salad again instead but wasn't thrilled to find out how much it varied a third time. read more

Slow service for only 2 people here it's empty! Don't get the chicken wings, they are too dry. The ranch is from a bottle not made on house so I wouldn't recommend it as a salad dressing either. Cobb salad is delicious, the beet salad has FRESH beets not pickled or canned. Soup of the day was chickpeas and it was in a lovely veggie tomato broth. Very nice :) Mashed potatoes are AUTHENTIC and thick. Not that boxed crap you mix together. Salted buttered and with a hint of garlic. For dessert the seasonal is crepes. But we went with the cheesecake with a chocolate drizzle. Very good with a graham cracker crust. Two people it's $80.00 with appetizer and dessert. Mostly the service was super slow. read more

St. Patricks 2014! Yeah! Green beer, cabbage rolls, green bra shirts, green G STRINGS!! That's what everyone was thinking right?! Well that's not what happened. LAYOVER!! And that's how my story begins.. Luckily my company is contracted with this hotel and it is only 2.5 miles from the airport. Beautiful lobby, beautiful rooms and thank goodness they have a bar. I, like any other traveler, got in my room, plopped on the bed and read the menu. Miso salmon on a bed of wasabi mashed potatoes caught my eye. So, like any traveling solider, I marched down to this establishment which is conveniently located in the hotel. Here it is cut and dry - The staff is awesome! So nice but not at all overdoing it for a tip. Always there when I needed a refill... ON MY BAR SNACKS!! Any who my cup was full ;) So I ordered what I spotted on the menu. Miso salmon on wasabi mashed potatoes. Sorry chef but pack your knives and go. Needed acid like a New Jersey house wife needs a pardon. Plus the fish smelled a bit too much like fish! Potatoes did not wow and the asparagus was not much more than a stinky pee! Sorry but my meal was just not good and the price of 28 was not much better. Next time I am in Dallas I will opt for a more flavorful outcome. If anything I hope this raises awareness to management. New food please!!! read more

Stayed at the Westin (which hosts this restaurants location) over a few days for a convention. Came here twice for lunch, and got the nachos appetizer plate, and the bacon burger with fries. The nachos were really good! A higher rated option in terms of typical Mexican food selection. Easy split between two people. The burger was good too, but I would say more on the "average burger" description. The menu isn't very deep, probably about 20 options total, and is a tad pricey for how average the food is. The atmosphere is typical sports bar feel, with many tv options and a large bar with seating available on a more secluded side of the layout of the place. read more

Lackluster hotel food and slow service - I would expect much more from a Westin property. Staying at this hotel for four nights without a rental car (boo hoo), I found myself at the BlueFire Grille more than once for lunch or dinner. Drink orders took a long time to arrive. Salads took strangely long to arrive and were disappointingly small and pretty much just spring mix/spinach, random carrots/tomatoes, and chicken (for an additional $4), bringing the salad total to $15. Balsamic vinaigrette (on side) was inedible and pretty sure it was from a bottle. Better choice was to order at lunch a half-Cobb salad, which is actually fairly decent and only $9; even more equipped and more filling than the plain $15 dinner salad. Burgers looked just okay, atmosphere was better in the bar/lounge than in the Grille area. I found the easiest way to speed up the service was to tell whomever seated me that I only had X minutes and to please bring the bill as soon as I ordered, therefore allowing me to charge it to my room. Granted, if you're in a hotel airport, you're probably not looking to be blown away by a meal at the hotel, but I know the Westin brand can do better. read more

The Westin's BlueFire Grill is just passable as hotel restaurant. Given that it is a Westin's property it should be 4 stars, and honestly it should only get 2.5 stars. The decor is dated, the tables and furniture look as though they have come a bankruptcy auction. The table wobble and one wonders if the chairs will make it through the meal. The Caesar salad was basic and was overdone with dressing. Why is it that most restaurants feel they have to bathe a Caesar salad in a thick, overpower dressing. Pass on this salad . . . matter of fact there wasn't a salad on the menu that was worth ordering. To the Grills credit, the Glazed Salmon was plentiful and cooked perfectly. The bakchoy had good flavor, but the wild rice was bland. The kitchen needs to step it up on the rice to make this a great meal. When in town and staying at the Westin, do yourself a favor and have something delivered or take a drive downtown. read more

I stay at the Westin lots. I think the food gets an easy 4 for a hotel restraunt. 3.5 in the real world. The salmon is good, wings are great, burger is ok. Desert is blah. It's not cheap eats but I feel you get quality and a ton of food. Decent healthy options and the service is great. Seems the staff has been around for years. The bartenders are very friendly and talkative. This place is like home to me. Drinks are exspensive or at par for a hotel bar. read more

There is a reason this place had only 3 stars - it sucks!!! DO Not order any of the seafood - it's not fresh and very fishy and made me throw up! The calamari was rubbery - run away from it - unless you like eating rubber. If you are ever staying at this Westin - and too lazy to find another restaurant for dinner - just look up Yelp and find another restaurant. It will be worth it. I am never eating here again. I was in Dallas, TX for two weeks for work and this was the closest place to hang out with one of my friends that live in TX. Plus they carried my wine Menage a Trois. We were here for 10 days. The actual bar isn't bad the service is mediocre and the food was a little overpriced for the quality. We ate at BlueFire Grill at the Westin Hotel near DFW Airport mostly because we were too tired to take a 15 (or so) minute expensive cab ride to something else. We were very dubious about eating here because: 1) hotel restaurants are not usually very good; and 2) of all the negative Yelp reviews. Well, it wasn't great but it was much better, especially in the service area, than we expected! The staff was both very efficient and very friendly. It seemed liked everyone asked how everything was and said Goodbye as we left. Our drink order came to the table within 5 minutes of placing the order and our salads showed up shortly after the drinks. Our entrees came after an appropriate interval. The food ranged from good to very good. We started with salads that were fine. I had the small (12 oz.) Prime Rib @ $32.00 and my wife had the 5 oz. Filet Mignon @ $28.00 for our entrees. My steak was cooked well but was only OK. My wife thought that her Filet was very good, although the Sauce Bernaise ($3 extra) wasn't worth it. The prices are what we expected going in and are comparable to better Boston restaurants. All in all, pretty good. read more

Vegans in Dallas? I stayed at the Westin (DFW Airport location) for a family reunion the weekend of July 12, 2019. I was very concerned about food options since I am vegan and after scouting, I found very few options nearby. Most of the vegan-friendly places were downtown, an uber ride away, but not good for our family reunion schedule. Between Postmates and Amazon Prime/Whole Foods, I was stuck spending a ton to get my nourishment. On our second night, I tried the veggie flatbread (sans cheese) at the BlueFire Lounge in the hotel lobby. Christie, our bartender, suggested it and confirmed that it was in fact a vegan once the cheese was removed, even the flatbread. This dish is amazing and so flavorful!!! Chock full of goodies! Even the non-vegans ordered more! I lived on this pretty much the rest of my time there (that and my Amazon Prime/Whole Foods delivery - thanks Besos!). I did question the flatbread being non-dairy but I didn't get sick during my stay so I think they were correct? That's a risk we take when dining out. Many folks think vegetarian and vegan are the same so they just say "yes, it's vegan" even if it's not - they may not understand the difference. Room service also delivers poolside if you'd like. Overall, 5 stars for great service, great staff (we had a few folks help us - all fantastic!), patient, easy-going atmosphere, and accommodating a hungry and helpless vegan surrounded by a Dallas world of meat and dairy! hahahahah!!! read more

I have stayed in the hotel twice and because of the late arrival chose to just eat there. Both times I was surprised by the quality of the food. First time I had a Caesar Salad and calamari with a local beer. Great salad and unique twist on calamari. Wait staff was excellent. The second time my server recommended the wings. They were huge and perfectly sauced. Will definitely get them again. If you are stuck in the hotel don't hesitate to check this place out. read more

Myself and a group of 7 other people stayed at the Westin last night. Five of us decided to try out this restaurant in the hotel as it looked promising and we lacked a rental car. Big mistake. We arrived at 6:20 and placed our order at 6:35. Around 7:10, bread was brought to the table. 7:15 saw our appetizers brought out. 7:35 saw the main course come out. 4 of the 5 orders were wrong. The three of us that ordered medium rare steaks got well done steaks. The individual who ordered a pasta dish was given a different pasta dish as a substitute (no one told us that the dish ordered was not available and at no time were we aware a substitution would be coming until it arrived). We advised the waitress that the steaks were tough and way over cooked. The steaks were taken back and replaced after a 35 minute wait. We were allowed to keep our potatoes to munch on while we waited albeit a baked potato doesn't make a main course, especially when it is a dry potato. When the new steaks came out, they were cooked correctly but were very unevenly seasoned, being both bland and tough in spots. We were offered free deserts to compensate us for the inconvenience and the fact that they totally screwed up our order to which we declined as we wanted to be out of there before 10pm. We did finally speak to a manager who decided to comp 2 of the steaks at around 8:45pm. All in all a poor experience. PS, we were not offered drink refills until 7:40. My soda was gone about 45 minutes earlier. read more

Basically the decision maker on buying food chooses the lowest quality possible and charge the highest cost as possible. It's terrible.
