Not first visit. Previously had great service, good food and prices. Last visit, we waited 20 min for our order to be taken. Ok, it was a little busy. It took another hour and a half for our food. Waitress did not stop by at any point to inquire if we needed anything or explain delay. Food was prices as previous visits. However, portions were drastically reduced. 1/4 lb burger covered half the bun. Philly steak sandwich was about 1/3 less than before. After finishing, server came with Bill. There was no explanation or apology for the delay. This was noted in tip. If you have staffing issues, fix it. Do better. read more

New owners after years of my go to take out food neighbour's. My $15 dinner last week is now $22.50. Roasted chicken breast was dry, perigies were awful and cabbage rolls just ok. May try one more time but the prices have made it easy for me to look elsewhere. Too bad. Should've known with 8 people inside and 5 cars in the parking lot something is up. Nice vibe, but not at ALL impressed with the food. Dry, cold toast, and a fried egg folded in half with two strips of unmelted plastic American cheese on it is NOT an omelette. Shame on you for presenting this omelette that a three year old could have made, for which you charged a fee. The jelly packs were the only warm items on the plate. read more

+ great service, good food, reasonable prices - decor is dated Went here yesterday with my mother as we were taking her out for her birthday. There was four of us. I made a reservation for 6:00 for a booth, but upon our arrival, there were no booths. I guess they forgot about us needing one. There's lots of seating in this place and we sat at one of the middle tables close to the wall. The decor is showing its age and is in need for a refresh, some of the chairs were pretty worn. Our waitress was very friendly, and she gave some good advice on the menu items and we were happy to hear they were super flexible when it came to the side dishes. Prices are very reasonable, a lot of them under $12. We ordered fish and chips (haddock) and the Broasted chicken with mashed. The entrees even came with a choice of soup or salad. We ordered the Caesar which was made up perfectly and the garden salad. I had the house made vinaigrette dressing and it was really good. The entrees came out within 30 minutes and tasted perfectly. The chicken breast was cooked well. I like how there isn't a lot of breading on it. The mashed potatoes and gravy were really good as well. My mother had the coconut cream pie (on the house for her birthday) and she said it was wonderful. Pieces of pie are only $3, very reasonable. I like how everything is homemade here and the staff are friendly. We'll definitely be back to try out more of their menu items. read more

Old school menu, great history captured in photos on the walls, GREAT DINER FOOD. You ever remember eating liver as a kid? I do: awful. We eat here all the time. Food is made fresh, always hot and we love the Roast turkey, Ukrainian trio ( with borscht of course) and the pasta. I used to take my mom here after medical appointments (her choice, and it is near the hospital). Recently I grabbed the 5 lb trays of frozen lasagne ( meat and veggie) for a larger gathering I was hosting. Both were frozen, but made of real ingredients, not the mystery mush that most trays of frozen lasagne are made from. My guests could not say enough good things about the pasta, and it made hosting a large group so easy! Friendly service too and portions are generous enough for leftovers! read more

I remember when this place had really good food, it was like 10-15 years ago. Now it's cheap fatty and the taste is totally different:( not sure if they changed owners back then, but definitely not the same. The only good thing that came from this experience was there milkshakes. read more

I stopped going there after such an experience and the restaurant management did nothing about it. I had some decent experiences at the Blue Star, but I'm guessing it was just good luck. When things went wrong, I realized that if you want careless staff and bland food, this is the place to go. Fireside restaurant has much more considerate management & staff. Sadly the complete opposite of what it used to be. Service was slow, spent quite some time waiting to be seated & receive our meals. Waitress was cheery & apologetic, yet very uneducated on the menu; we woild ask questions about certain items & she just read what the description on the menu said over our shoulders. While waiting on our meals to arrive, we saw no less than four plates be sent back to the kitchen; not a good sign. Food was less than mediocre. We got the Ukrainian trio & corned beef special. Considering the corned beef & the cabbage rolls were the daily specials, we at least expected them to be fresh & better than other menu choices. Everything was cold, tasting like it had been microwaved then left to sit on the counter. Meals came with chicken noodle soup as a starter which simply tasted like salt water. Corned beef was an overcooked beef roast, not even resembling corned beef. Fries were soggy, tasting like they had been made several hours prior. Perogies were undercooked, yet still tasted okay. Cabbage rolls tasted homemade, yet as if they had been made a few days ago & reheated. The chicken was a complete joke, resembling something I would get from KFC; one soggy piece of doughy deep-fried chicken thigh. Dessert was limited as we were told there was only a few pieces of apple pie & one piece of blueberry pie left. Blue Star used to be the go to place for an enjoyable meal some years past, yet it seems they have let themselves go to quite an extent. read more

Alright so , it's only my second review & I had hoped that I would be making snide remarks & belittling some business but then I remembered the dinner I had with my parents & sister . It was amazing .. minus the creepy waitress we ended up being stuck with . She knew my step mom .. This is a good, old fashioned diner. Booths with sparkly vinyl and all, the Blue Star offers comfort food at affordable prices. They have your usual all day breakfast and sandwiches, but their cabbage rolls and perogies are to die for! They even sell them in trays to take home! As we learned, you probably shouldn't load up on cabbage rolls and perogies when you have to go back to work. The food coma was worth it! Ugh.. where do I begin.. The only positive thing I can say is that the staff were nice. They seemed more focused on their regular customers, and were very forgetful with everything that we ordered. The utensils were dirty, and the tap water tasted awful. The prices were higher than normal for breakfast dishes, and they didn't have a traditional eggs/meat/homefries option. They also added a 1$ premium on the prices because it was after 12pm. The eggs were very runny, the bacon was hardly cooked. The toast was ok, but the homefries weren't anything special. The portion sizes were small, even for myself who enjoys smaller portions. Definitely won't be returning there any time soon. read more

Friendly local family restaurant, broasted chickens are pretty good, very juicy. The star is the 30 chicken wings , skin is crispy and meat is juicy. Everyone loves these wings. My wife like the cabbage soup in particular that came with her party trio platters. We ended up taking home about half of what we order and heated up post Star Wars 7. We all agreed this is now our favorite place for wings. If the men washroom was not clogged this would be 10/10 but my son and I think this time it earn a 9.5/10 read more

Received worst service ever today, will never go back. Waitress kept serving other customers that had come in much later than us, some had ordered and received their food and we still did not have coffee after reminding the wait staff. Waited almost an hour and had to have the food boxed up to go. After that wait both our meals were cold, totally unacceptable. Love this place. The perogies are amazing, the chicken i have had is very moist and amazing, steak is my favourite. Only things id like differently is peameal bacon not dry like a peice of old leatyer and super thin, and mashed potatoes that didnt have a weird taste to them. Otherwise no complaints. Very generous in most meals. And the wait staff is paitent and understanding and chexk up on you but not enough to annoy you, but enough to refill your drink should you need one and make sure no complaints. read more

The meals at Blue Star quite expensive. My friend ordered the beef hot sandwich and it looked very off putting - too much gravy and wrong colour. The locals swear by this place but my god it is terrible. Any time I've gone the servers seem miserable to be there serving me. Last time I went I had some very cold over-easy eggs (cold raw yolk is a terrible thing). Pancakes are big and filling but not very tasty. I get the impression it used to be a lot better in the past than it is now. For those who love it there I urge you to try some of the other local diners and see what you are missing. Ordered the perogies as an app were delishious bought a dozen frozen to go.. Ordered philly steak poutine,turkey poutine and Breakfast..portions are huge, prices are very reasonable.
