Today was the first time I brought my Chihuahua in to this establishment from the first time I called. I felt that they were knowledgeable, but put my animal first I learned so much in the 15 minutes I took him in and the 15 minutes when I came back to pick him up, I highly recommend them for grooming and go to the spa is how I was telling people when I returned. She was not streaming she brought him out and he can see how calm he was. We're talking about a Chihuahua here. Well, we took our dog here to stay while we were on vacation for over a week. A little disclaimer: he is updated on all of his vaccines, we keep him incredibly clean and healthy, and we dropped him off without a single mark on him. My fiancé was told that we would be able to see where our dog would be staying and playing during our absence when we go to drop him off; we love our doggy and we want to know he'd be somewhere clean and safe for him. But when we came to drop him off, we were told that we needed an 'appointment' to look around where they keep the animals and where they play. That was off putting because we were told one thing and it was a different story when we got there. Now skip ahead to when we go to pick him up; he has a large scratch under his eye, a bruised stomach, and a long scab puffed out lining the inside of his back leg. He looked about the same, if not worse than when we first adopted him at the shelter he was from. I had to double bathe him just to get at least a portion of dirt and whatever else was on him, off. To add a cherry on top, i was curious as to why he was sneezing and coughing to the point where I'd have to carry him back inside shortly into a walk because he wouldn't go further. He has kennel cough, and nobody at this facility warned of this? I got my dog back beat up, extremely dirty, and sick. Not to mention that their website says you get a discount for adopted pets and extended stays. That discount is 3% which is nothing considering how they treated my dog. Their lack of care is upsetting, and I feel terrible about leaving my dog there. Highly recommend not coming here to board your animal. read more

I am very unhappy with the grooming my dog received here. I took both of my dogs in to be groomed and one was groomed well, but the other one was not. His toenails were not trimmed. He was not given a bath, he had blood on his bottom. His hair is crooked. His ears and tail had knots. The two pictures below are 15 minutes after I had picked him up. His face is filthy! He also smelled horrible! He smelled like baby wipes. I'm not sure if they have a new groomer or what. I had taken my dogs here three months before this and was very happy with the job they did. When I went there three months ago, it cost $200 to have both of my dogs groomed. Both dogs are under 20lbs. I was willing to pay that because I thought they did a good job. This time, the price jumped to $240 and they did a horrible job. I emailed the manager two days ago with pictures and she has not responded. read more

Mendocino County residents, BEWARE!! For starters, when you call they NEVER answer, you always have to leave a voicemail and don't get a call back until the next day. Then when I get to the facility, the owner picked apart the things I was saying about my dogs behavior. Those were all things I could understand. What I don't understand, is how I don't get notified that I was now being charged $81/day instead of the $56 a day I was originally quoted until I went to pick up my dog. The girl that I paid with said they had a note that they were charging extra, but there was no details as to why. I had asked for a printout of the details, I was told they do not have a breakdown. While I was on vacation, I had called and left a message and I had gotten a call back the next day, but nothing was mentioned of an extra charge! I have a voicemail from Kelly saying that my dog had "let himself out and into another kennel." Well that's a huge red flag to me! How was he even able to achieve this in a boarding facility? When I arrived back to pick up my dog, the grooming lady was the one I paid with and she said my dog was in a smaller kennel than he should've been in. My dog is 160 lbs , so he needs a big space. Apparently they only have one double kennel and that was already occupied. She should've mentioned that to me before boarding and I would've gone elsewhere and not be feeling TOTALLY RIPPED Off! The owner Kelly had also said my dog is a sweet boy and loved to hug, not one mention of anything really being an issue. He's also limping, which I thought was maybe from laying down too long. After looking at his paws, I discovered a blister in between one of his toes. I'm hoping to speak with Kelly to get further explanation on the extra charges and will post an update. read more

When I arrived I was greeted by a stern woman who immediately miss-identified the breed of my dog. Not such a bad thing, unless it comes with a condescending attitude. Then she spent several minutes trying to get me to guarantee my dog would not fight with other dogs. I repeatedly explained that my dog was not aggressive, but would defend himself if attacked, which annoyed the woman. After my 5-day trip I went to pick up my dog to find out he had not been allowed out of his cage for the entire time, because one of the workers put a note on the cage with those instructions. For this, I paid $50 per day. I will not be going back. read more

I took my dog here to get groomed and was very happy with the outcome. (However extremely pricey $70 for an 11 pound dog, not to mention I dropped him off at 8am and didn't receive a phone call till almost 5pm to pick him up which wasn't to major of a deal but still an inconvenience). Me and my fiancé were so happy with his grooming that we decided to look at boarding as we were getting ready to go to Hawaii and no family was available to watch our dog. We boarded him for 11 days and gave them 12 days worth of food for our dog, standard stuff. But when we picked him up it looked as if he were thrown in a dark, hot box and they slid food under the door for him. Upon arrival they returned 5 cans of his food (he eats one can a day) which raised major concern and we noticed a cut under his eye, a bruise on his belly and a scab on his leg. He also started coughing and sneezing a lot which we thought maybe were just allergies, but with the continuity of his coughing and sneezing it left us with the thoughts of him having kennel cough. I highly recommend you avoid this place as I feel it is extremely unsanitary for pets and they don't spend any time (unless they're "working") on the animals. Definitely not going back. read more

Hands down have never had a better experience for me and my dog than with Kelly and her staff. Blue Ribbon may not be one of those trendy posh doggy hotels, but what it lacks in aethetics it makes up for leaps and bounds with care, attention and professionalism when it comes to caring for my dog. My dog is a hyper, active & nervous boxer wreck. She usually shakes uncontrollably when I take her to a vet or boarding house and I usually have to pick her up early because she either gets herself hurt or ends up making herself sick with anxiety. When we pull into Blue Ribbon her tail wags and she runs out of the car to see Kelly & staff. They know her very well, love her, and I have no problems leaving my dog with them as often as I need to. In fact, I have a new sense of freedom and have taken way more weekend trips this summer because I feel so comfortable leaving her there. I will miss this place greatly when I leave Ukiah. read more

Thanks Kelly for helping us have a great mini vacation in Ukiah. The boyfriend and I were going to Orr Hot Springs for the day and dogs are not allowed on the property so we needed to find a boarder. I called around a few places and decided to check out Blue Ribbon because the staff was friendly and attentive (even a new staff member who went out of her way to answer my questions while she was learning the ropes). The price was very affordable for day use. It was pouring rain all day and our very big dog was lucky enough to have some other doggy day care regulars to play around in the rain with aalllll dayyyyy looonnggg! Kelly was super friendly and helpful and if we lived close enough I would definitely seek out her dog training expertise. I was happy that Kelly asked if it was OK for our dog to play outside in the rain with other dogs versus being in a kennel. It is nice to have the option depending on different dog's temperaments and luckily our dog is super friendly and playful so he got to have a blast while we were relaxing in hot springs. Kelly was very knowledgeable and customer service oriented, she even gave him a quick blow dry before handing him over. Of course I am always a big fan of women owned business. The only problem I could see some customers having is the hours to pick up and drop off your dog (definitely hours designed for the 9-5er). You have to drop off the pooch between certain morning hours and pick up during specific evening hours but cannot get them in between. I live in San Francisco and some boarders have similar drop off/pick up situations however it is possible to find some that are more come and go as you please, which can be more accommodating to peoples varying schedules. For our purposes though these hours worked out great! We were able to drop the dog off at 9 and have a worry free breakfast back at the hotel before heading out to the hot springs. We arrived about an hour before the kennel opened again so we took a short drive down the road to Barra Winery, had ourselves some wine samples and were almost late picking our guy up! And to close up my mini novel I give five stars based on my dogs total and complete happiness when we picked him up. Even when we dropped him off he instantly did not notice or care that we were leaving him, he was just soooo excited. He has separation anxiety :( and tends to cry/howl/pace when left alone. Kelly is clearly a pro because she seemed unfazed by his crying. Luckily he was probably not alone too long ( he had other day dogs' company ) so I am hoping he did not drive her crazy for too long!!!! One of my dogs is very sensitive about being groomed -- and they baby her and treat her like a princess. First time taking our dogs to a groomer and could not be more pleased with the service! Both dogs, a Cavalier Spaniel and a Cocker Spaniel, were in need of a lot of work to get ready for the summer months (hot, dry, stickers etc). They turned out better than expected! The groomer took the time to explain issues, techniques to limit those issues, and offered a free brush training session for us. Both digs came home extremely excited and happy! read more

We've recently moved and I needed to find a new groomer for my two old miniature poodles. Kelly was able to get me in the same week I called. While it was slightly chaotic when I arrived, Kelly took the time to ask me lots of questions about the dogs to ensure their comfort and safety while they were there. She indicated it would be a minimum of 4-5 hrs until we could come to pick them up, but it only took 2.5 hours until they were done. Exactly to my requests. Very happy with the results and the dogs did not seem traumatized by the experience. read more

My tea cup yorkie had just finished all her shots and was finally old enough to go to the groomers, being a first time dog owner I didn't know which groomers to take her to but I chose this one! Big mistake! I got my puppy back and they had shaved off her nipples! All of them! My baby dog's first groomer experience and they shaved off her nipples! To this day she has little black scars where her nipples used to be! And is forever afraid of the groomers! This was a long time ago so I can only hope they have trained their staff better. read more

I adopted my Bull Dog mix Pinky from the county pound three years ago not knowing she was deaf. She had so much energy she was really hard for me at first, not to mention the hearing issue! She had issues with some dogs and I never knew how she would react when out for walks, etc. I found Blue Ribbon Pets for daycare a couple of years ago and I have to say Blue Ribbon saved Pinky and I. They knew just how to help her socialize and have given me great tips for training, feeding and care. She now goes to daycare 5 days a week and is a completely different dog from the one I adopted. She loves going and can't wait to see Kelly and Mariah when we get there each morning. They're her second family and when I have to leave town I have no anxiety about leaving her. The owners and staff attend regular training on dog behavior, etc. It shows !! They made my timid dog feel safe and confident. They had NO problem with my dog, and welcome her back any time. The owner took time with me to explain and teach me about my dog and her breed to help me better understand dog behavior. She also gave me printouts. WOW. My husband and I were in town visiting family, but we brought our chocolate lab with us. Since our family was renting they could not have animals overnight so we had to look for a boarding kennel for our dog. There was not much to chose from but my husband found blue ribbon. I was skeptical and worried because we've never left our dog in a boarding kennel before. We met Kelly and she was wonderful. Very knowledgeable. when we spoke to her I can tell that she had been working with dogs for a very long time and knows her stuff. I asked for a tour and she agreed. And I do agree with her that if money was not a problem, a lot of things there would be updated at the kennel. Although it was only for 1 night, Kelly worked out with us on times for drop off and pick up. When we picked him up in the AM, she went over with us how our dog did in detail such as his behavior and his interactions with her. After we left, I felt that our dog was treated very well here. Kennels are unclean, groomer incompetent. Brought in poodle, Genius shaved her stomach and knees, left fufu pom poms on lower ankles. Not the cut I asked for, at all. Poodle was shaking terribly afterwards as if mistreated. Edit for lack of noticeable yelp reply buttons; Upon closer inspection we are noticing cuts on the dog as well. One on top of her spin, one on her jaw, and one on her left rear leg. I now fully understand why you guys aren't taking credit for clipping her. Be sure to find and fire whomever 'trimmed' her. Your address and name is of the business the dog was picked up last week. Legal owner of said dog has not received any phone calls, so stop lying. From what I saw of the kennels, unclean/ lazy workers that day. read more

When I first spoke on the phone with this place they sold me. They talked about how they don't use force with the animals. If a dog is acting out it's because they are uncomfortable. She assured me that when that happens they take the time out to reassure the dog and comfort them. The first time I went there I thought it was wonderful. the second time I went my dog looked great, when I got her home she went to the bathroom like she hadn't been out all day and drank enough water to make me think that she hadn't had anything to drink all day. I took my dog back a third time and she was very reluctant to go. I told the owner that my dogs hips had really been bothering her, so to be extra careful. When I came back 8 hours later my dog was on the grooming table and I was told by the owner that it would be another 45 min. So 45 min later I came back and my dog was still on the table. She could see me, but the owner could not. My dog starts to wiggle a lot and I watched the owner throw her shoulder into my dogs hips and scream at her. I was appalled to say the least. Once the owner/groomer saw me she went back to being really sweet to my dog. I spent the rest of the time while my dog was getting groomed right there with her. After all was said and done I confronted the owner and she told me that you have to push back when they start acting like that and gave me a discount. I was also told that my dog had no tics on her, when i got home I found 3 of them on her neck. The neck is a place that I feel like one would console a dog by scratching and petting. Needless to say I will never bring any of my animals back here, nor will my friends. read more

I have been a customer of Blue Ribbon pets since 2011 and love the great service I receive every time. The staff works with you on short notice grooming calls to make sure that you pet is well taken care of and there always willing to talk to you about educational information. Our family dog suffers multiple allergies and always stunk real bad, thanks to Kelly giving us information to talk over with our vet we were able to pin point the major issues. I took my Persian cat in, and told the gal that I wanted a "lion cut" done on my cat. After 6 hours, they called and said she was done, they had combed her out. I said, "you didn't shave her?", and they said "no". They tried to tell me that I wanted her combed out. I did not say that. I went to get her right away and $100. later I had a traumatized cat with various bald spots, looking like a speedy shave job. read more

Kelly has a great understanding of how stressful it can be for a dog to be boarded for the dogs and the humans and puts both at ease. Kelly and the whole staff tailored the experience to his individual needs and they all did a great job. We will definitely board our dog here in the future. A great place to board if you are in Northern California and going to the city. It's a nice out-of-the way location with a farm-style feel (goats, horses, farm cats, etc. nearby, but obviously kept separate from the dogs. I needed to take my moms dog to get groomed and needed it done ASAP. I called many places in Ukiah before reaching Blue Ribbon. I was extremely impressed with their customer service. Mariah answered the phone and was excellent. She was able to get my moms dog in the next morning, gave me a quote over the phone, explained to me what she was going to do, and was very professional and friendly. Unfortunately some of the other places in town were rude - one lady hung up on me when I asked if she could tell me who else in town might be able to get the dog in on short notice and another lady hung up on me after telling me she doesn't give quotes over the phone. I won't give them bad reviews but will make sure to tell anyone with a pet to go to Blue Ribbon. Mariah let me know what their base charge was and told me that it may be more depending on my moms dogs coat as well as how easy it was to brush him. They did an excellent job and I would definitely use them in the future. read more
