I lost my sweet dog, Maggie, in February 2024 to bone cancer. I was sure I would never have another dog being as I'm getting up there in years. And then a friend posted a picture of "Nonnie" (name has since been changed to Lily). There was just something about her that spoke to my heart - - I needed this dog and she needed me! So I applied for an adoption and was accepted. Amy was wonderful and helped me through the process and answered all my questions. My sister and I rented a car and drove the 850 miles from Vancouver to Willits in June of 2024. Lily is now a beloved member of my family and I am amazed at how perfect and loving she is! Milo is a wonderful organization - if you're ready to adopt, PLEASE consider them. You won't be disappointed, I promise.

This is an incredible organization doing really important work to save animlas. We had the pleasure of adopting a dog who has become a wonderful addition to our family - kind with other dogs, kids, people, everything. The Sanctuary is just that .... a sanctuary for many animals to live and be adopted (instead of having short lives in kill shelters). Worth a vist as it promises a life changing experience.

I found Wilbur on the Milo website, and before driving up to Willits to meet him at the sanctuary Amy graciously had several long phone conversations with me about him. I had a lot of questions and she was very open, honest, and forthcoming. I appreciated her time as I did have to take a day off work for the three hour drive up there and wanted to be mostly sure I was coming home with Wilbur before meeting him in person. The sanctuary is a special place! Amy gave me detail directions as it's a little tucked away (but every easy to follow her directions there). It's a big well cared for parcel of land with lots of room for the animals, and lots of very dedicated humans working with them. Amy spent a good deal of time with me and Wilbur, answered more questions, reviewed all of the paperwork she had on his past before arriving at Milo, and set us up for a good meeting. After taking Wilbur home, she checked in a few times on how things were going and continued to answer my questions and I am so impressed at the level of care and continuing support she has offered. I'm happy to say all is going well and after a month Wilbur is really settling in--he's such a fun addition and I am so happy to have worked with Milo to find a dog that was just right for me (and I hope he feels the same!)

She appears to be the real deal. When our cats were old enough to be spayed/neutered, the staff provided transportation for the surgery to and from the vetinerian. There was no cost to us for the surgey Some of the animals Blythe takes in are at the end of the road- injured, disabled, recovering from trauma or illness. Most folks don't have the patience or time to save an animal in dire straits. It's admirable, to say the least. These Karens complaining about smelling pee or getting feelings hurt by staff are just being petty, trying to discredit these folks doing good work. Find something more productive to do. Blythe and crew are doing a tremendous job.

To anyone complaining or reading complain to here about smell or presentation, this is not a puppy farm or puppy mill this is a place in which animals are brought to be helped and saved. I read someone complaining about the smell, of course neglected dogs and cats who are being saved are going to have a smell. Here is a perfect example. I was speaking with Blythe and she tells me she's gonna have to call me back. I contact her the next day and find out that someone had randomly left five dogs somewhere while moving. She stopped everything she was doing to prioritize, saving those dogs so of course when she went to get them, it was not like she was picking them up from the groomers, but the exact opposite and yes they smelled obviously it's not her fault the dogs were left in that state, she did everything she could to get them healthy get their shots up to date and to make sure to find suitable homes. When I first read the negative review, I was skeptical and i was being very critical. Don't believe everything you read here keep in mind. There is a bunch of people trying to sell puppies vs save them.

I was feeling like I must be one of those one star folks who had said something wrong in her application, and they were black listing me already. I was pretty deflated. Imagine my delight when I got an email to make an appointment on Friday, and got to head up and meet said dream-pup that same day. We hit it off, so we went to pick up the boss (our other dog), and see what she thought of him. She wasn't impressed, and he was intimidated, but she warmed up to him (defined as "ignored") more quickly than some other dogs she's met. We hung out in the yard for a bit to see how things would unfold, and it went better than we had anticipated. We decided to give it a whirl and bring him home, and are so glad we did. The dogs are totally getting along (after drawing some boundaries at home of course), and starting to play and sleep all cuddled up together. SUCCESS!! Cheryl and Abby were super nice, knowledgeable and helpful. This is a beautiful temporary home for these rescued pups, and the folks working there clearly care so much about them. Cheryl (the owner) and staff has put so much love and care into her passions. They dogs she's rehabilitated, the care they receive, they support they get. You have to be one lucky pup to be at the Big Dog. My dog loves coming back to the Big Dog for visits. She's super excited and happy. Cheryl wants to make sure her dogs are going to the home that is the perfect match. She will carefully screen as every rescue should do. I've read some of the 1 star reviews on here. And Cheryl is right, dogs are not ment to spend hours outside. What if it's hot? She is correct and has every right to be concerned where her dogs are placed. If you are not a good fit of she is not comfortable with your household, then I'm sure there is another match out there waiting for you to save them.

Since then her doctor retired, & she's been seeing the Veterinarians still there. I've read other reviews & noted they dated from 10 years ago. This is not true of the current doctors, Veterinarian Assistants (yes, they go to school too) back office & front office staff are wonderful, personable, compassionate people. Our Tuni has had some significant health challenges thus last 14 months. I recently called due to a reoccurring issue and though they were extremely busy (three Doctors & lots of techs & staffing for various positions), I Was counseled by a tech how to keep calling early to get an appointment as I'd have to wait several weeks to see the Veterinarian. Tuni was in a reoccurring problem, that needed an antibiotic soon. They got me in the next morning & Dr. Burns saw her, got on the floor to be acquainted again, listened to all I'd had to say intently, asked diagnostic questions & whisked her away for an examination. She complimented me in my thoroughness os CALMLY explaining what was happening to her, had tead the very complete information I'd related to the Vet Tech of my calls & why Tuni needed to be seen. She had also read Tuni's record to familiarize herself with her long term reoccurring infection & cleaned her bottom with a cooling medication & didnt charge me for it, along with treating her vulva for a rash, again no charge. Tuni has a folliw-up appointment inn2 weeks to check on her progress. These professionals are DOCTORS, & deserve to be paid what they charge that i believe is no more than 60% of what Veterinarian offices charge here & elsewhere. No sstaff has ever been rude, condescending, flippant & other things they've been accused of. Even if they get an angry & screaming oatient, what we now call Karens, the situation is handled properly. The office is always spotless as are the exam rooms, when one calls, their new phone system announces your position in line, when they say they'll call you back they doo & today the Tech called & said my local pharmacy couldn't get the med T needed. It was very expensive i thought but i looked online for its price and they were charging less than half of what each pill cost elsewhere, including a very popular online pet supply company. So, don't listen to the naysayers. It is iwned btly the three women vets who have a lot if experience, have an office manager who knows how to hire & keep a great team. I worked in two different medical offices for humans. I wished the staff where I worked had nice, friendly, supportive & trained employees, not the women i had to work with. Go to this Veterinarian hospital. The Ukiah office is closed on weekends, as they go to Willits to help out at animal shelters there. Also, ive never waited for any length of time. Even if im early, i check in & today, tho i was 15 minutes early, Dr. Burns Vet. Tech called me in just under 5 minutes, & Dr. Burns was in the exam room shortly thereafter, with Tuni & me early. Cheers, & try them for your fur-baby, scale, feathered or spikey baby. Your mind will be at ease & your baby will be on their way to treatment & hopefully a healthy future.

Unfortunately, my recent experience with front office policies and interactions has led me to transfer my pets to another veterinary hospital in Willits. While many of the reception staff are friendly and helpful, I encountered communication that felt inflexible and lacking in empathy, particularly regarding appointment policies. I understand that clinics need policies in place, but long-term clients also value being treated with a degree of understanding and respect. It's disappointing to leave after so many years, especially because the veterinarians provide such good care. I hope this feedback is taken constructively, as the quality of veterinary care deserves to be matched by the overall client experience.

I have known Odessa for years and have so much respect for her incredible personal commitment to dog rescue. Most of the dogs 'roam' freely in her house, learning to get along with other dogs and with people. Puppies (and moms) stay in the puppy palace (a charmingly converted and furnished garage space). Rescuing and adopting dogs is very hard and very expensive work, since many dogs who were neglected or abused require a lot of love, medical care, and training. Please take any 'negative' reviews with a big grain of salt. All of us who have to deal with the public understand how unreasonable and uncharitable some people can be. This is a truly extraordinary woman who makes great sacrifices to rescue and place dogs in the best possible homes. It's an uphill battle with so many people allowing their dogs to breed and dumping them on rescue. And with some adopters/lookers who can be disrespectful of the process around placing dogs. Very few of us could do this work day in and day out with no reward other than seeing dogs go to the right guardians. Thank you to everyone who supports and adopts from rescue, saves lives, and appreciates those doing the really hard work. And please consider fostering a little dog if you can. It's a rewarding experience being part of the pipeline to forever homes.
