I visited this shelter with my kids and was so happy to find it. I want to go back often, just to pet some cats. They are no kill and obviously house some animals who are...less adoptable! As soon as I sat down, a cat who must have been pushing 20 leaped on my lap and stayed put the entire time. The cats roam free in a common area and are absolutely friendly and delightful. If you want sterile, hospital like shelters who eye you with suspicion, this isn't your place. If you want warmth and love and happy animals and people, this is the best shelter for you. My kids looked at dogs. I just provided a lap for a senior. :)

I went to this shelter a few days ago and the place reeked of stench and smell. Understandable because there's a bunch of animals that need homes. I already have dogs and cats at home adopted from humane society and wanted to see what this place was all about since I pass it all the time. Not what I expected! First of all, I don't know if it's because of lack of donations or volunteers but I think it is important to establish safety precautions: such as greeting people and advising them to sanitize their hands before and after touching the animals. Be cautious of sick animals, some were surrendered from vet hospitals to save them from euthanasia. I was looking at cats and most of them had drainage from their eyes and nose, possible upper respiratory infection? I was scratched by one of the kittens. Have they been vaccinated by rabies? It's quite a concern because the place looked like it needed to be cleaned and properly maintained, it looked so contagious! I've been feeling sick and worried if I brought something home to my cats and dogs and I kept thinking about my visit there. If you are going to visit, my advise to you is be careful and safety first. I understand it is no kill, but to me it looked like animals keep pouring in and it's starting to look like a death camp. Not recommended to take kids who like to touch everything for a visit. Safety first!!!!

We recently preadopted a puppy from here and I can tell you that they are nice people who care about their animals and cause of them we will be taking this cutie here home soon I think $250 to adopt is good it also includes they shots and neutered/ spay for the animal. Also I like how the vet is near by and how they have so much room for the animals to play in. I'd probably adopt from them again when I think of getting another pet. The staff is wonderful and they know a lot about their pets

My dog Cherly was a homeless hound from Oklahoma who lived at the Big Dog Rescue for a year and a half of her life. Cheryl saved my girl and gave her a chance even though no one wanted her as she was one of their long term residents. This peaceful palace is a fully fenced sanctuary. Cheryl (the owner) and staff has put so much love and care into her passions. They dogs she's rehabilitated, the care they receive, they support they get. You have to be one lucky pup to be at the Big Dog. My dog loves coming back to the Big Dog for visits. She's super excited and happy. Cheryl wants to make sure her dogs are going to the home that is the perfect match. She will carefully screen as every rescue should do. I've read some of the 1 star reviews on here. And Cheryl is right, dogs are not ment to spend hours outside. What if it's hot? She is correct and has every right to be concerned where her dogs are placed. If you are not a good fit of she is not comfortable with your household, then I'm sure there is another match out there waiting for you to save them.

I filled up the application and I received a one-liner response: "he is gone". I asked for a different dog and the answer was "gone too". I believe my application was a disaster, because I had no clue of what you are supposed to do with a dog and I wrote what I thought we would do. After researching the topic, I can see why they would not consider us for adoption with that application ;-) However, I wrote back asking to speak with them to understand why they did not spend more than a second to reply (I was looking for some suggestions on if we are ok to adopt or if we should not even bother). They never answered. I guess they are great with dogs but have a problem with humans.

I have been using VIP Petcare for a while now and most of the time, the employees were friendly and competent. This particular VIP Petcare from Windsor, CA was questionable. Perhaps I caught them on a wrong day but Dr. G. and his two assistants were so business-like they acted like they didn't like animals. First of all, Dr. G. wanted my dog to jump on the examining table but when my dog was reluctant because she was scared and would not do so, I had to carry and lift her on the table and she is not a small dog. Most vets I know would simply have taken the blood test on the floor. When Dr. G. failed twice to obtain blood from my pup's front leg, he decided to try on one of the hind legs and at which point I was asked to soothe my dog because of the assistant not knowing how to soothe an animal. Even the groomers I take my pup to are much more caring and soothing than his assistants. After I purchased a years supply of Sentinel, I asked for a written prescription. One of the male assistants who helped with my dog chimed in from across the room asking, "well, why would you need a prescription when you have to have your pet tested every year"? Too much of idiot to not come up and speak to me face-to-face. I didn't want to argue with the half-wit as I wanted to get out of there. His statement was bullsh*t because I was told by another veterinarian that it's not necessary to have your pet tested every year as long as the medication is given continually and consistently. These people simply want to monopolize on selling their products and services. Indifference toward animals, a veterinarian with a superior demeanor, employees devoid of a sense of humor, and one unprofessional employee with a crappy attitude = 1 out of 5 stars.

She…read moreworks with most of the other local shelters/rescues in the area to save small dogs of all ages and conditions....as she has space available. I have known Odessa for years and have so much respect for her incredible personal commitment to dog rescue. Most of the dogs 'roam' freely in her house, learning to get along with other dogs and with people. Puppies (and moms) stay in the puppy palace (a charmingly converted and furnished garage space). Rescuing and adopting dogs is very hard and very expensive work, since many dogs who were neglected or abused require a lot of love, medical care, and training. Please take any 'negative' reviews with a big grain of salt. All of us who have to deal with the public understand how unreasonable and uncharitable some people can be. This is a truly extraordinary woman who makes great sacrifices to rescue and place dogs in the best possible homes. It's an uphill battle with so many people allowing their dogs to breed and dumping them on rescue. And with some adopters/lookers who can be disrespectful of the process around placing dogs. Very few of us could do this work day in and day out with no reward other than seeing dogs go to the right guardians. Thank you to everyone who supports and adopts from rescue, saves lives, and appreciates those doing the really hard work. And please consider fostering a little dog if you can. It's a rewarding experience being part of the pipeline to forever homes.

Sherry gives you calm, clear, detailed, interesting, and fun instructions as you learn from her to execute the training of your dog during that scheduled appointment. I adopted a 5-month-old Terrier mix, and she would not go through the dog door-petrified of it. With Sherry's help, in a few amazing training sessions, I am excited to say, that is no longer an issue. My dog goes in/out like it is not even there. We are now working on training her to take walks and with one session we are moving in a positive direction. I can't stress enough how I look forward to our weekly 30min sessions as Sherry gives me the confidence, sureness, and enjoyment of training my dog. We like that the staff understands Jack and are careful not to overwhelm him with too many other dogs all at once. They are taking a careful and tailored approach for Jack, which is exactly what we were hoping for when we started with the daycare program. I met the owner, Wendy, the other day when I picked Jack up from daycare. She was checking in on the dogs and staff. She is kind, caring, and seems to be very knowledgeable about all kinds of dog breeds and behaviors. The office staff also deserves positive feedback, they kindly changed my daycare appointment today at no extra cost when I couldn't make the appointment. It's also the reason for writing this positive review today. Overall, Olivet Kennel is a professional run facility with an online booking system that still feels like a family business that you can trust. The kennel is clean and inviting. It seems unprofessional to let sick dogs stay there but I guess they just care about money. Also I had prepaid for a daycare package. When I tried to use it they told me that it had expired during the time my dog was sick. I told Stephanie there's no way I could use the prepaid package while my dog was sick. She had not been in contact with any other dogs so I am 100% certain she caught it at Olivet. They never did honor the daycare pass I paid for and told me "sorry but it expired". Seemed odd for them to be so stubborn about a policy after my dog almost died because of them allowing sick dogs to stay there. I paid over $2000 in vet bills because of them and my dog nearly died. You've been warned, proceed with caution.
