We like the staff and doctor. Everyone is professional and our dog does not stress out too much when in for visits. Our dog recently had an illness and we called in to get seen. We explained the illness which was a fever/flu after getting into some raw fish. We were advised they had no room to get us in and to get dog to Santa Rosa. This is our primary place to bring our pets and it is disappointing during an illness we could not get our dog in for medication. A few more calls and we received medication we needed from an office we had never been to. For office visits, and vaccinations in advance this is the place to go. Don't plan on getting in during an illness day of when it is needed. Plan on traveling. read more

We are new to the area and our elderly dog declined in health suddenly over a weekend. When none of the vets on the Mendocino coast (Covington Creek Veterinary, etc) would even return my call to just give me a referral to whom might be available to help us during business hours on a weekday, Willits Animal Hospital instantly responded professionally and with care, squeezed us in that day, and took us on as new clients right then. I filled out a simple, no-bugs online form, and saw them that afternoon. We had to put our beloved family member down that day, and I was extremely emotional and exhausted. The staff was super courteous and truly caring. The vet tech (did not catch her name) explained the process carefully, gave me time with my boy, held my hand during the process, gave me hugs, and brought me kleenex. This staff is professional and conscientious. The rural office and facility is clean, welcoming, and seems well equipped. Thank God for this Animal Hospital!!!! Last week we were camping in Ft. Bragg when our dog got very sick. I called around to several veterinarians one morning, Dietrich, Covington, Medocino, and more. No one would see our sick dog.......Wow. Most said unless you were an existing client, they won't even consider squeezing in an appointment. Tonya said she would try to squeeze us in that day, and she did. I was in tears from relief. Knowledgeable & straight shooting vet from my experiences in the 90's (Boston Terrier with heart valve problem). Recently went back, new pet, good to get her established in case a medical need arises. I was pretty blown away by how skilled the vet tech was. If I could give Willits Animal Hospital 50 stars I would. Being 2000 miles away from my 19 year old Thor's primary vet I was very worried his final moments wouldn't be as I hoped. Thankful for Willits to euthanize him in my lap in my car. The procedure went perfect and he had a peaceful exit. I can't say enough about the lady in the front with glasses. I wish I new her name. I work in Animal Rescue so always have the need for emergency vet care. These people have been very accommodating and fit me in a number of times when there were emergencies. The office is very well run, the vets are knowledgeable and kind hearted, as are the vet tech staff. I feel very comfortable here and I know I'm in pretty darn good hands. I just adore the vet techs! One in particular. I came in with my pup. My dog had contracted parvo. The vet came in and told me and left quickly. They couldn't keep him because of the infectiousness, so they sent us home with medicine and a 50/50 chance. The vet tech walked us thru all the IV meds and spoke to us 3x a day for two weeks. Since this time, that female vet has left. She promoted the very worst dog food that is on the market. I was floored. I would recommend dr Jacobs because people have said he's great. I do not know personally but I do know that he has good help! The best! read more

What the veterinary assistant failed to tell me was that the rabies vaccination could possibly have adverse side effects and could possibly cause a reaction. All they told us was that he'd be a little tired. They gave my dog his puppy booster shots along with the rabies vaccination. He was acting normal all day and then all of a sudden we find him dead. We thought he was sleeping because they told us he'd be lethargic. They failed to mention that we should monitor him for any other side effects. What I don't appreciate is the Veterinarian Dr. Jacobs, who didn't even see my dog yesterday or administer the vaccines, calls me to explain that any reaction would have happened within an hour and that it wasn't the vaccine that caused it. This is false, because I spent all night researching the side effects. He also said that without an autopsy we couldn't prove it. Trust me, I want to sue, but I wouldn't get anywhere. But my family has spent thousands of dollars here and we will do everything we can to discourage people from coming here. read more

We were passing through on a roadtrip and were very relieved when the lovely Receptionist (who looks like Penelope Garcia from 'Criminal Minds'!) at Willits Animal Hospital squeezed us in for an appointment. They were very good at calming my little dog, Teddy, as he was nervous and the nurse knew exactly how to hold him for his comfort and to prevent him wriggling. He got excellent testing and treatment. All members of staff were professional, caring, and good with both patients and owners! The price wasn't too bad either. I was touched to receive a telephone call a few days later from the very nice lady who treated Teddy (not sure if she's a trainee vet or senior nurse), to check he was doing OK. They told me to go to Santa Rosa or home (Petaluma) as we were not an established patient ... I have brought my dogs to this vet since they were pups 3 years ago. Dr. Jacobs is an amazing seasoned vet and the reason we started going here. Dr. Jacobs has relaxed manner of a man with experience & that always makes me feel calm wether its a regular office visit or emergency. Dr. Nagra now takes the majority of appointments. My family has taken past vets to Dr. Jacobs, they have always been helpful in pointing us in the right direction of how to help our pet. However, this week they really went over and beyond. I no longer live in Northern California, and my 8 week old puppy took a nasty spill; all I wanted was to be at home with a vet familiar to me. After 1 bad vet experience in the morning and a second better visit in the afternoon, I still didn't have an answer about what could be wrong with my furbaby. I called Dr. Jacobs office and spoke with Mayte, explained her the situation and she was quick to not only be kind towards my situation but listened to everything intently. They had me forward x-rays and some photos and video of my pup, and immediately got back to me with there assessment. They gave me assurance that I was taking the right measures in her recovery and even went as far to send me recommendations to a referral here in Southern California. In a emergency, to find a place like this is a gift. I was impressed by the way my pup and I were both treated when we entered in a state of severe anxiety after pup had become embedded in burrs at 10:00 pm the preceding night, which took me three hours to remove and when it was over - it wasn't over. She had hurt her spine and was totally traumatized by the event. I drove into town and asked the first person I saw walking their dog to recommend a vet. He suggested Willits Animal Hospital and toy poodle was seen first by Dr. Nagra and then by Dr. Jacobs the next day when she had an episode of frightening pain. It was touching to observe the way she was examined and how respectful they were of her complicated history. Every member of the staff is conscientious and comforting and careful. I have had my dog for 11 years, and been to different vets as I have moved around. Willits Animal Hospital is # 1! Every single experience I have had at Willits Animal Hospital has been excellent. Every receptionist, vet tech, and veterinarian has been beyond kind, informative, and treats my dog as their own. Seriously. They have lots of experience dealing with normal issues as well as specialized knowledge for the wild hills around these parts. They have saved my Dog's life more than once. This is the ONLY veterinarian I have been to where they are very understanding about the costs of procedures and give a range of choices within an estimate to let you decide and there is absolutely NO looking down on you if you don't choose to do it all. Every other Vet I have been to I got the weird looking down on/treated like I was dumb/ or a terrible pet owner if I didn't go full out on treatment options.
