    Peach ice cream!
    Michael B.

Stopped here for ice cream--the bookstore, ice cream shop, and boutique share the name Blue Owl and are all in the same building. Best peach ice cream I've had in decades, can't say enough about it. About ten flavors to choose among, definitely a popular stop in the summer. There are benches outside where you can sit while eating your ice cream.

Here is the order window for ice cream and coffee.

We were in Nederland for lunch and had a taste for dessert. One of the locals told us about this place so we thought we'd try it. The main part of the store is the shelves of used books. (There used to be tables, but they were removed because of COVID. If you want to sit and enjoy your ice cream there is a bench outside. The ice cream portion of the store is a service window where they take your order. There is a list of the ice creams they have available. The ice cream was good and refreshing. I didn't spend much time looking through the used books before getting ice cream because I haven't seen a used book store yet that has much other than lots of fiction paperbacks.

Where to start? Well, we stopped at Blue Owl today for some ice cream. Since I'm not much of an ice cream person I decided to pop in to the book shop. The neon open sign was on so I walked up to the door to open it and was surprised to see a paper cup over the door knob. Confused by the cup on the doorknob I looked at the young guy standing behind the ice cream cart and said , "is the store closed today? His response was "CAN YOU READ???" I looked at the cup and said "it says closed", to which he replied "EXACTLY." I looked back at him and said , "Do you need to be so rude? It is absolutely unnecessary to talk to anyone like that." My husband then addressed him and the kid's response was, "I'm sorry if I made you feel that way" with a smirk on his face. My husband told him to wipe that smartass grin off his face and asked him if his mom taught him to talk to adults in such a way. We were completely stunned at how rude he was. After reading reviews of the shop it appears this must be a problem that trickles down from the management or owner, seeing that she makes no effort to apologize or handle these aforementioned issues that others have also shared. You have an opportunity to represent your community as a reputable business owner with a charming bookshop and it appears that you are blowing it. I'm attaching photos for reference. My advice is to patronize the yogurt shop across the street instead of wasting your money on a business whose owner seems uninterested in the way that her employees communicate with her customers.

    More than excellent ice cream!

What a great little spot! It's not an ice cream parlor - there's a door where you order your ice cream. It was very good ice cream and a unique little spot! You should make this part of your journey if you were in the area.

Such a cute little shop! I'm already short and felt the shop was designed for hobbits. Don't get me wrong, that's what's precious about it! The day we visited was very nice, the line for ice cream was out the door; we would otherwise have seen more people inside for books and gifts. There was only one guy working, and despite the long line, he's the most patient store owner I've seen. Our ice cream (Mulberry flavor?) was so dreamy, I was shocked when I learned it'd come from Magill's, which has a store not far from us but we'd never tasted such wild berry goodness. Maybe they only export exotic flavors to remote towns? I digress... When you're here, please take the time to walk around the shop, enjoy some coffee (for a simple cup of decaf we asked, he pressed some decaf beans and made us an Americano, it was so rich and fragrant, definitely the better cup of coffee for me that day!) You'll sure to feel relaxed!

The Good: Blue Owl is an adorable, Only-In-Nederland tiny little hippie bookstore that serves ice cream! The Bad: Ice cream/waffle cones are not homemade, and they offer only one dairy-free option (lemon sorbet of course( The Food: Ice cream is delicious. The Service: Very Nederland

Walking into Blue Owl Books & Boutique, the perfect smell of freshly-baked brownies immediately hit us. It was a perfect spot to stop for a snack after a hike near Eldora. The ambience of the cafe was, by far, its best asset, and the food was great as well. My three friends and I all had the breakfast burritos, both meat and vegetarian. While the portions weren't huge, the burritos were flavorful and served hot. We also all had various drinks (mocha, hot chocolate, chai) which were all exceptional, helped no doubt by the homemade chocolate made at the cafe. For dessert we shared two of the freshly-baked brownies which were giant and delicious. The great food was complimented by a bunch of locals sitting and chatting in the bookstore side of the cafe. I would return here in a heartbeat.

Love ice cream? You'll love the Blue Owl and Ice Cream Parlor. Plenty of flavors to choose from. Grab ordinary vanilla for wonderful flavor or mix it up with a scoop of raspberry and chocolate in a waffle cone. On a busy weekend there is typically a line out the door but this just tells you how good the ice cream is that people are willing to wait.

DELICIOUS fresh ice cream, I recommend the Chocolate Avalanche on a cone. Such a fitting addition to an adorable town.

I don't even know how long it's been since I first got to know about this mountain town coffee…read moreshop. It's been on the "must go" list for a while but I finally had a chance to visit it on a beautiful mid-February day today. It sure was worth the drive and time all the way from the south Denver. The moment I stepped inside, the warm welcoming atmosphere was sensed. As soon as the lady upfront greeted me cordially, I felt more comfortable and relaxed. The instantaneous gratification hit me where I almost uttered "I am glad that I took the time to come here!" I wanted to peruse the menu. To my "Give me a moment" statement, the kind lady said "Of course, take your time. We also have a Valentine's Day special drink right here!". It was a white chocolate based mocha which sounded quite sweet so I asked her if it was sweet to which she said "It's very sweet but we can always adjust it to half the syrup!" All kinds of considerate words were made in each of her reply. I decided to go simple today; I went with the drip coffee which comes with unlimited free refills. The lady gave me one of the cups and told me where the pot that contained the drip was located. Alongside the pot, there was a super mini refrigerator that contained two jars of cold milk: one is half and half and the other is oat milk. What a kind care the shop does to keep them chilled. The simple drip coffee was just what I needed; it hit the spot. And tasted clean with no burnt notes at all. Quality coffee indeed. As I was immersed in this review writing in the ambient setting, the shop started to fill with guests. Although it's so tucked in this little mountain town, there appear to be "coffee fanatic fans" that know this place. And like me, I assume that many of them are not the local town folk. There is no wonder why they are drawn to it; they know where to find great coffee spots. I loved every single bit of this cozy place. My recommendation is only one of the multitude of others that know this place.
