Even if you wanna get ripped off don't go your bike will come back in worse condition charged me $275 more than they quoted me which made it $625 and now my bike isnt shifted correctly and on my daughters bike her chain keeps falling off I also told them to match up my front tire to the back one which they said they could do but they actually put a totally different tire on it so I needed three tune ups and a tires and they told me 350 and here I am 275 on to that and added stuff I didn't want and three bikes they came back in worse shape than I took them there in don't go to this place you'll regret there scammers and idiots read more

Wow, where do I even begin with these people? I had to replace my derailleur, and they quoted me a price over the phone of $30. I thought that sounded low, and sure enough when I actually dropped off the bicycle they said it would be more like $60. No problem. But then when I went to pick up the bicycle suddenly it was over $140, and they had also replaced the chain without consulting me. Oh and they said they'd have it done by Saturday but it wasn't done until Tuesday. But whatever, as long as it worked, right? Except it didn't work. The chain they installed was slipping, and so I left the bicycle with them again instead of taking it home, so they could *actually* fix it. A full two and a half weeks later---"Don't call us, we'll call you" they told me at one point, after I had the audacity to ask when it would be finished---I went back to pick it up again after they said it was fixed. Except it still wasn't fixed. This time they had replaced the gear shift without my consent, which had been working fine and did not need to be replaced, and did not help resolve the chain slipping problem I actually had. At this point, they told me that the cassette would need to be replaced, to which I said, fine, go ahead and replace it. Except they didn't replace it. Instead, they used some kind of table saw to try and saw grooves into the existing cassette, which unsurprisingly only made things worse. I finally gave up on them, and left with my bicycle. I have been here quite a few times. They have always been friendly and I found the service to be good. I love this shop and it is so unassuming. They have the most wonderful bicycle museum located on the upper levels that must be the envy of any bicycle shop in the area. That alone would make it worth the trip. I've never found the owners very friendly here. I've been here several times too. Last year I was looking for a road bike. At the time there was nothing available for my height. He took my phone number putting it on a scrap of paper and said he'd call if something came in. I would have thought he would have called some cycle companies that he sells but would not offer to even do that. Had a friend buy a bike here also. He said he hates it. He said they didn't bother to fit him and were not friendly. Sounds familiar. Absolute worst. North Central Cyclery in DeKalb is the best bike place to visit. They were friendly, knowledgeable, and did a wonderful job on fitting me. read more

Have tried to enjoy this beautiful bike shop over the past 10 years and have never had a good experience. Owner and employees consistently have an unfriendly and unhelpful attitude. Not sure if it's an elitist attitude but I do know that I've been treated with more respect at the big box retailers, and that's unfortunate because I've given them so many chances over the years and really want to give them business - but not any more. read more

Unreliable with a capital U. Showed up during normal business hours only to find the place unstaffed and closed. Small sign in the window indicated that someone would be back at 2 pm, so we killed an hour or so in Sycamore and a nearby town before returning to Blue Moon. Yep. You guessed it. Still closed. Called the phone number, got the answering machine, and left a message along with my number. Also let them know that we were waiting out front. Nothing. No return call. Zippo. Nada. Zilch. Oh, by the way, no reply from Blue Moon to an e-mail inquiry I sent a couple days ago about some parts I need. SO...closed once, closed twice, no phone reply, and no e-mail reply. Was extremely disappointed with the lack of customer service and hostile way in which this shop treats its customers. My partner went to drop off his bike off on Monday evening after working on it all day Sunday with a friend. When he began explaining to the owner the issues they had run into and talking in general about the bike, he was rudely cut of and demeaned by staff member (presumed owner per other yelp reviews) and told to "stop talking because he has no idea what he's talk about anyways." Why own a local specialty business if you don't intend on conversing with your customers regarding your trade? We went back the next day to pick up the bike because there is NO WAY we are supporting this business and the man working was very pleasant and accommodating when we advised we no longer needed their service ( a situation fire he's probably had to put out multiple times.). Please learn some customer service skills and general respect for other human beings. 0/5 Stars would NEVER recommend. read more

As a first responder, I wanted to do some type of exercising outside during the COVID-19 pandemic. One day, I saw that Blue Moon was open until 5pm. I decided to call ahead shortly after 4pm to see if an appointment was necessary. I advised the employee that I lived in Sycamore and I could be there in five minutes. The employee, who I believed was the owner, advised me that no appointment was necessary however, he was closing early and asked if I could check back another day. I was fine with checking back and called about a week later, around 1pm, and asked if this was a good time for me to stop by in approximately 5 mins. The owner advised the they were having lunch however I could still stop by. I arrived approximately 20 mins later to give them time to finish their lunch. When I did so, the door was locked and I noticed two employees standing back looking at me. No one ever came to the door so I just got back into my vehicle and left. I then contacted North Central Cyclery in DeKalb. There, I was able to purchase a new bicycle, accessories, and with excellent customer service. read more

Nice guys, but incompetent. I took in my bike do you have a tune up, and they installed the new chain because mine rusted out. Despite that they said it would take no more than a couple days, it was quite a while longer. When they gave it back to me, a simple simple one block riding test showed easily that the chain skipped in places. They apparently only tested it on the stand with their hands cranking the pedals. OK fine. So I was again told to come back in, because they bought a cassette for the freewheel, one of the gears. It took several days to repair. When I got it back, still not fixed. While they didn't charge labor for the second install it still was $190 and I have a defective bike that I can't ride in traffic to get to work without worrying about the chain skipping. To boot, every so often for no reason the rear detailer decides to jump gears. Totally nice, but small town. So sad that the DeKalb bike store lost their longtime, quality staff all at once a couple months ago. Driving to Geneva to get a bike fixed seems silly. read more
