This is the best garden center, special event space and gift boutique all in one space. The greatest part is it also offers food trucks, beauty and creative events. I have been here multiple times before. Usually for their Mother's Day weekend events, shopping for fall porch pots and some place to visit when people come to town. This time I came for the Galentines event. What a great time and worth the $60. There was a cocktail/mocktail creation ghat we learned how to make a signature holiday drink while munching on an enormous charcuterie spread. Then it was off to the other side of the beautiful space to create a valentine vase. All the while being taught how to create an amazing bouquet. I loved that we could ask questions along the way and learn new ideas and how to. After the event we shopped the boutique and took photos with the cutest backdrops. I drive an hour to this amazing place and it's always worth the trip. read more

We could not have asked for a more beautiful, seamless venue than Blumen Gardens! Planning our wedding without a wedding planner was definitely overwhelming at first, but once we found Blumen, it really felt like everything started to fall into place. From the moment we visited, we knew it was the one, the garden was already so beautiful that we didn't feel the need to add anything more. One of the biggest things we appreciated was how they allowed outside catering, which gave us the freedom to choose what we wanted for the food. On top of this, the indoor reception space was already decorated with beautiful string lights and had that perfect rustic charm we were looking for. The team at Blumen was amazing to work with. Britney was so kind, responsive, and accommodating from the beginning, always willing to answer our (many) questions. As our guest counts changed, she and the team were so flexible and worked closely with us to help adjust the layout and plans. They even offered rentals for signage and decor (which we honestly wish we had used more of instead of buying our own!). Blumen Gardens also made it easy for us to stay organized. Even without an official wedding planner, they provided clear timelines for when they needed info like our schedule, vendor contacts, layout, and rehearsal details. On the day of the wedding, Alyssa, Bridget, and the rest of the Blumen team were everywhere making sure everything ran smoothly. Their presence and support gave us so much peace of mind. The entire day felt like a dream come true, and we're so thankful to the team at Blumen Gardens for helping bring our dream wedding vision to life. Blumen Gardens was recommended to me by my neighbor who is a retired master gardener and has a fabulous home garden. We were impressed with the inventory and the beautiful displays. It was well worth the drive from Wheaton. I believe that they only have on street parking so parking may be a challenge on busy days. They have some special events. The sales people were friendly but after being asked at east 3 times whether I "found everything I was looking for" and "Do you have any questions?", I was annoyed. read more

My brother had his wedding and reception at Blumen Gardens this past weekend. The venue was beautiful and simple, with concrete floors and large windows lining the sides, and plenty of parking and seating room for the 150ish people in attendance. They didn't seem to have any heating for the building but with all of the bodies in the room it ended up heating up decently for this winter wedding. The front section was perfect and intimate for a wedding ceremony, which would later serve as the dancing area.. leaving the back section full of round tables and room for buffet tables. The venue seemed very DIY, as I saw little help from the people from Blumen Gardens and nearly all of the work done by the bridal party and family... which I assume was intentional based on the pricing they worked out. The bathroom area was pretty but small, with just 2 stalls in the ladies room and a cramped sink... so if a larger space with amenities is what you're seeking I'd look elsewhere. I'd say this venue works well for 100-175 people but not any more than that. Overall the wedding turned out beautifully and I think they were happy with their choice! read more

There are many things that you can buy at any garden center. Many of us end up journeying from place to place to find things at different places. One thing that is pretty unique at Blumen Gardens is something you NEED to own. Rarely do you say, they did everything right on a product. Almost never do you buy something that will outlive you. Wolf-Garten tools are worth a trip (by themselves) to Blumen Gardens. 35 year warranty. Tools that can be switched out to short or long handles so that you don't clutter your house with tools when a great design means you can just use them the way you need them each time and store them conveniently in much less space. A tool that when you pick it up, you can tell they are of the finest quality. If you garden, you probably have containers of tools that you own and a few that you think are indispensable. ALL the Wolf- Garten tools, you will buy will be great quality, flexible and they last. They aren't the cheapest tools - they are just the best (and the best value). I can make this recommendation knowing that someday if we meet, you will say, "You were sure right on the garden tools, I love them." read more

Gorgeous little place! I was only here briefly, but found a perfect little pink glass bottle that I needed, and had to take back to CA with me. I had spent weeks at home trying to find one, and who knew I just had to go to Chicago and stop in this little spot to find the perfect one. The shop is nice, a lot of pretty flowers and plants, and cute, unique items. The woman who helped me was also very nice. My friend was looking for a specific item, and she was out, so she said she would add it to her list to order. Very friendly, cute, clean, unique place. Blumen Gardens was the PERFECT venue for our rustic boho wedding. We would give Blumen Gardens 10 stars if we could! First off, it was the very first and the very last venue my husband and I toured. We knew immediately from the charming aesthetic that we wanted to get married here. (As a side note, the shop is so cute and we always buy something when we are there!) The greenery and flowers around are the perfect backdrop - we didn't even hire a florist because of all the beautiful plants and natural beauty the venue offers. We opted to rent the new bridal suite which was absolutely STUNNING and big enough to allow even the largest bridal party room to get ready and celebrate. They even supplied us with 2 bottles of champagne, orange juice, and snacks. We had an outdoor ceremony that required little to no decor on our end. The space itself is beautiful and we wanted to be married in the raw beauty of the space. It needs nothing else other than what Blumen Gardens supplies. So many places for stunning pictures. My husband and I were on a specific budget and we were able to spend under that because Blumen Gardens allows you to bring in your own vendors. This allows you to spend as much or as little as you want on catering, bar, DJ, cake, etc. The reception area was climate controlled perfectly for our early August wedding. The twinkly lights and charming chandeliers around the reception space made our wedding warm, inviting, and gave it a fantastical feel. We loved the vintage wall decor, bar, and hutch that we used to display our decor on. We had so many compliments on how beautiful and unique this venue is. Above all else, Bridget, the events coordinator was an absolute miracle worker and THE BEST AND EASIEST PERSON TO WORK WITH!!!! Throughout our 2 year engagement, she answered every question we could possibly have promptly and with patience. She helped create a timeline of the day, and a floor plan for the reception. The day of, she helped set up our outdoor decor and made sure everything was perfect. Bridget and her team directed vendors the day of, and also helped our bridal party get down the aisle - because of this, we didn't even need a rehearsal dinner! She was PARAMOUNT for a successful day and we owe her and the entire Blumen Gardens team so much for making our dream wedding possible. It was magical :) read more

Two reviews here. First, as a place for rentals (birthday parties, weddings, meetings, reunions), their Tea Room is perfect. Much less expensive than I had planned, which is nice. I've rented the place (which has different sizes areas they'll apportion off), been to events and even dinners here. Wonderful and the staff is a joy to work with. Next, as an avid gardener, Blumen is my "go to" place if I need that showcase plant, a whole bunch of unusual perennials or annuals or to find a piece of ironwork or other garden decor. Their staff is great with recommendations and I can always find something new and unusual. Overall, a great garden market and well worth more than an occasional visit. read more

My wife and I held our wedding reception at Blumen Gardens. We fell in love with the space at first sight, and loved how the reception came together. Our guests had a blast and overall the final outcome was excellent. So why the 2 stars? Their staff. Jane, their wedding coordinator, has been highly rated all over yelp. I wish that had been our experience. If I was just ranking the space alone, my response would have been a solid 5. But Jane, supported by the rest of the Blumen Gardens staff added an immense amount of stress to the entire wedding planning process and did everything but actually help us. Some issues we had: Financial: 1/ I started by paying with my credit card. For the 2nd deposit on we wanted to use a different card. We called and asked about changing the card, and asked that the original payment schedule be used. They ran the card that day and it was rejected because that bank had no reason to expect a large bill from a random place in Illinois. The staff called frustrated that the card had bounced and after confirming that they should run the card on the date on our contract, everything went through. 2/ Mid-process they changed their point of sale system. I received an email after the change letting me know that a new charge would be applied to all future credit card payments. At 3 months before the wedding I had already determined all of our expenses. Jane let me know that because the wedding was more than 1 month out, I had ample time to figure it out, which is naive to say the least. I pushed back and was able to escalate the issue to the owners and keep the terms of the original contract. I have no concern with changing POS systems, but it's insane to not grandfather existing customers in, especially when the normal terms of the entire contract are around 1 year. 3/ I was told that our deposit check would be returned after we cleared out of the space at the end of the event. No such thing occurred. I called the next day and was told it would be a few days, that what I was told by Jane was not actually the case. Even after the wedding, there was a discrepency between what she told us and what she did. Communication: 1/ At no point did any of the staff reply all. This seems petty, but it added a lot of noise and difficulty to the entire process. 2/ No notes were ever added to our file, or the file was never referenced. I discussed the band and other details about 3 times each. Before making any decisions I would confirm our plan, make sure it worked with the venue and proceed accordingly. I have emails with Jane from October (April wedding) confirming the caterer, band, photography, etc. At our 30 day check-in it was clear that Jane remembered none of these. She had to 're-check' with the owner and make sure it was okay. That kind of stress and concern is absurd that late in the process, especially when the entire wedding was planned around details that had been negotiated in October. 3/ We scheduled our 30-day check in at ~33 days. The contract specifies that insurance information is due at 30 days. I came with questions to make sure that I could fulfill the contract. When saying I had questions, Jane let me know that she "needed it now, and it's due today." It worked out, but even at the 30-day check in she started off the meeting in an extremely rude manner. Use of the space on the day of the ceremony: 1/ If you tour the space on a Saturday, you're probably there while another wedding party is setting up. So you respect the people using the space. I tried to stay out of the way while we toured it during our planning process. On the day of our wedding Jane came in with a tour group and made our bridal party clear off a table we were using, and had a business meeting in the middle of our party and photographers. We asked her to use some other space so we could continue using the space we had rented and she refused. 2/ Later in the day I confirmed no more tours and Jane responded harshly. She let me know that it was my fault because pictures were supposed to have started at noon. That is true, but pictures were still going on! It doesn't matter when pictures should have started, especially if they have started and she's in the way during them! Overall: 1/ Jane was awful. At every step she would switch between friendly facade and complete disrespect. She was condescending and frustrating to work with, and if it's not clear, I get angry just thinking about working with her again. If you can hire a wedding planner and pay someone to work with her in your stead, then I would consider Blumen Gardens a viable venue. I don't know what we did to piss her off, or why it worked out this way, but it did. And it made the stress so much worse. I had one expectation, and that was professionalism. We asked careful questions to make sure we respected the space and the contract, and were met with complete and utter disrespect. 2/ The space is incredible. read more

The local gardening club raves about this place. I'm not ready to rave, but it's worth stopping by periodically. Once a year they bring in someone to sharpen tools ($1 each), and the selection of gardening gloves/plant food is pretty good. They had a couple of herbs, and if you're looking for something like small numbers of tulip bulbs you should definitely stop in. The people who work there know their stuff. They have an interesting selection of gardening books, some of which have obviously been there for quite a while. It's kind of an odd rambling place inside an old factory/warehouse of some kind. (They hire the space out for weddings - no really.) If you want character, this place has it in spades. read more

This place is SOOOO amazing. They have a huge assortment of beautiful seasonal flowers, amazing decor and furniture, and the cutest succulent section I have ever seen. Seriously, I am not even a succulent fan, but they had a size-able succulent area that was adorable. More than anything else, they have great help. I found awesome suggestions for bushes and perennials, shade and sun, cut flowers, pollinators, and growers. My favorite part is that they host some of the best events, and have food trucks on a ton of Saturdays. And you get to go to Sycamore, which is just an awesome town to visit. read more

We traveled from Hawthorn Woods which is about an hour away just to purchase the plants for our new flower beds from Blumen Gardens. We picked up 37 perennials and we could not be happier. The plant choices, quality and staff are top notch and extremely helpful! They helped us choose and design everything we needed. Considering that we had no idea of what we wanted for the 2 beds, they helped us create a beautiful oasis for our back yard. There is so much more to this garden center than their great plants and landscaping. Their buildings and setting are so unique that you could spend hours looking at all the cool items that they carry whether it be for yourself or as a gift. They even host weddings and other events. Items and events are ever changing to match the season. A Christmas visit is a must! Go check Blumen Gardens out and see for yourself. If I lived in the Sycamore/DeKalb area, I would definitely drop a lot of dollars at Blumen Gardens. But I live 1800 miles away and much of what I like is too hard to pack in a suitcase or even ship for a reasonable price. Nonetheless, I always make a point of stopping by Blumen Gardens when I visit Sycamore from the West Coast. Great place for ideas and inspiration for gardens and home decorating. Attended a beautiful wedding reception at this location this weekend. I absolutely loved the look of the place, though it can definitely hold only a small number of people. The food was good, the service was good, and the decor was beautiful. I liked this location as well because it appeared they are not crazy about some rules that other reception facilities are crazy about (for example bringing in outside desserts at Riverside will cost you about $9 per guest) and it appeared they did not charge for those things. I would definitely recommend this location for a reception facility, especially if you are looking for a beautiful, low key location. read more

I recently had my wedding here, and all of the guests who attended my wedding have said that it is the most beautiful wedding venue that they have been to. Everyone agreed that it has it's own charm. For my husband and I, it suited our needs perfectly. We were looking for a vintage/country feel to our wedding. Blumen had it all for us. Not only did we get stunning photos oustide, but the interior has it's own suprises as well. We haven't gotten our photos back from the photographer yet, but I am so anxious to see how everything looks. I would definitley use this location again! read more

Spent 4 months working with them on a residential landscape. They have a beautiful facility with lots of creativity and eclectic items, makes you feel good walking around. I was anticipating a stellar experience with them. Not the case. Landscape designer is inexperienced in basic business protocols, unorganized and a poor communicator. She would not produce a revised estimate upon several requests as many changes were taking place. Refused to tell me changes to the bottom line which I should not have had to ask for. Got a whopper surprise of a bill well above estimate because of this. Joel, owner is a very nice small town business man and tried to rectify but his wife, the co-owner, was unprofessional and mean, writing a nasty note to me on the final invoice as the bottom line had been renegotiated by her husband. They likely have many local clients that have been their's for years and will always have a corner on the local market because of that. Have likely worked mostly with verbal and pat-on-the-back projects for years but not up to speed on technology or basic principles of project estimation. Paper and pencil that doesn't make it to the estimate, relying on inexperienced employees to make business deals. If your project is straightforward, use them. If you don't care about the total $$, use them. If you don't change anything during the project, use them. Otherwise you will experience what I did with being lectured, husband and wife not being on same page and attitude that customer should not challenge anything about their business practices and making excuses for sub par customer experiences. I gave 2 stars instead of 1 as their worker crew is very clean and productive. read more

This is a review for Blumen Gardens as a place to have an event. We had our wedding ceremony and reception here. The ambiance is off the charts here. They are a bit too lackadaisical (laid back to the point where you wonder if they are paying any attention at all), so I'm taking off a star, but they did a great job nonetheless. If what you see speaks to you then book this place and you won't be disappointed. Pay the extra cost to use both the inside and the gardens -- your guests will really appreciate it. The grounds are lit up beautifully at night and you can even have bar service out there. read more

The gardens were beautiful, the inside room for the reception was more than adequate, and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. I got married at Blumen Gardens in September and couldn't be happier with my venue choice! The space is naturally beautiful and the staff used plants from the nursery to decorate the ceremony and reception space (even the bathrooms!). The plan was to have the ceremony outside, but due to the rain we moved the ceremony indoors. The staff were willing to wipe down the outdoor chairs (for the third time that afternoon!) and have the ceremony outside, but we played it safe and had the ceremony indoors. There were infinite locations to take pictures. My husband and I had our 'first look' in the ceremony space. The rain stopped and we were able to have cocktail hour outside in the gorgeous gardens. There were so many different options on how we could set up the reception space and dinner tables and it was nice that it was custom to our wedding. The venue coordinator responded to emails very quickly and was helpful along the way. That being said, during my twelve months of wedding planning, I worked with THREE different planners. It was challenging to start working with a new employee, especially when the price of something changed from one person to another (they honored the original quote). They were easy to work with, and very helpful when we asked for suggestions for local caterers and bartender services (we were allowed to choose whatever vendors and stuff we wanted).
