I worked at Blue Jay in the summer of 1985, taking orders and making subs. The counter and food prep areas were always immaculate and George was like a well-oiled machine, cooking and cleaning up while chatting with customers. I was in town for work and looked up the best rated lunch place in the area and this place came up and i'm so glad it did. I read the reviews and did not hesitate. I got a small steak and cheese with ketchup and mayo and it has been added to my top 3. I'm a big steak and cheese fan and eat it often, but this one was special. The meat was seasoned perfectly. Very old school, which is not my usual preference. But after 20 years of living several blocks away, I dropped in for a takeout Italian sub because my usual places were closed. Just one older gentleman busily working the counter and grill. Despite the juggling, he was pleasant, attentive and efficient. My sub was better than most sub shops and very reasonable price (especially if you pay with cash not credit,). Peeking behind the counter to his food prep and cooking space, it looked neat and clean (even if the premises have a well-worn appearance.). read more

I like blue jays a lot. A classic and friendly breakfast and lunch spot that every neighborhood needs. My one criticism is that they really need to stock fresher tomatoes -- the quality of the tomatoes recently has honestly been poor. They or break a sandwich, especially in the summer. read more

I stopped in while visiting family. The place was not busy as it was the holidays and a weekday so we did not have any issue with crowds on weekends. The breakfast was cooked in a reasonable time and the coffee was sent out right away. It was a really good cup of coffee, the eggs were over easy and cooked perfectly. Home fries and toast were top notch. All served hot and fresh and for quite a bit less than you pay most places. Decor is old school vintage small restaurant and very cozy. They also sell take and run snacks, subs, dinners and cigarettes and road maps for the savvy truck driving customers who are up on the place. One guy, George, does all the work but his sister was helping out when we were there. So if you want fast food, you will be antsy. Want a really good old school meal in an authentic old American restaurant? This place does it great. read more

Great place! Owner operated which clearly shows through in the pride and quality of the food they serve. The menu is really extensive so pretty much everyone can find something they would want. Great food, great breakfast, but I waited 25 minutes to get an order in. During the morning the drivers from Restoration Hardware came in. Since there is only the one guy working at all times, I couldn't put in an order for 25 minutes. It would've been nice to get an apology for waiting so long or at least a small discount for the breakfast. That goes a long way. But if there is a number of people in there in the future I'll probably go to Dunkin Donuts. All in all the quality of the breakfast is great the lunch is pretty good too. Definitely not knocking the place, just think he needs to add one more employee to help out when things get to busy. read more

You really should check this place out! It's a little old fashioned in decor and appearance, which I find kind of cool, but the food is really good and they have an extensive menu for breakfast and lunch! I stopped here on Saturday 3/23/19 after dropping off a car at a local repair shop my customer had recommended a different location that is now permanently closed .Blue Jay's happened to be the closest place to me at the time and considering I had a 2hr drive ahead of me I was in need of some grub the place looks old and outdated but DON'T judge this place on appearance because George produced one of the best steak and cheese subs that I have eaten I felt compelled to call George to congratulate him on make such an awesome sub this was my first time stopping here and it won't be my last thank you and keep up the great work I'll be coming back soon read more
