I gave this restaurant 2 stars because the waitress was very friendly. However my daughter and I ordered fish and chip and my granddaughter ordered spaghetti. The food was unseasoned and pieces of the fish had bones in them and other pieces were undercooked. The pasta for my granddaughters spaghetti was overcooked and only had a spoon full of spaghetti sauce on top. Some of the fries were burnt and others were soggy. As my daughter attempted to eat the fish she felt nauseous and excused herself to the bathroom as her daughter yelled out Nasty. Walked into the restaurant, there were a few regulars, and a single waitress, with a cook in the back... Take out and dine in customers were all on first name basis with the wait staff and it was obvious these relationships developed over many years. Apparently they've been in business over 40 years, and there must be a good reason My lady friend ordered the fisherman's platter, heaps of fried clam strips, haddock pieces, scallops, shrimp... All golden fried to perfection. Waitress said it was larger than the standard fish and chips, substituting onion rings which were $1.50 up charge Rather than the onion rings coming out with dinner, they were brought out as an appetizer- large circles of whole onion, lightly battered, not greasy and piping hot... Absolutely yummy A short time later, out came two huge plates of seafood. My lady friend doesn't need clams so she gave them to me.... The clam strips alone were enough for my dinner (waitress did tell us in the future they could substitute out the clams or any of the other seafood for something that you would like better) we've eaten at numerous seafood restaurants in Maine and New Hampshire, including some of the more famous places like Woodman's, and I have to say her plate was second to none, even with me eating the clams, she left with more than enough fish for another night I wish I could give more inside of my fish and chips, but honestly after the onion rings the clams and one shrimp all I had room for was a small piece of the fish! We've had a variety of their fried and baked seafood dinners over the years, and while I'm not a fan of most "mainstream" restaurant fare, we keep coming back because they know how to cook fish. The wait time is very reasonable. The fish seems to be carefully-selected in the 1st place, and then well-prepared. Good prices and portions. The server was extremely pleasant, and she was very friendly. Now.. The reason for the 1 star. The food was just plain awful and it took forever for the food to come out. I ordered the broiled haddock with mashed potatoes and it arrived 30 minutes later. Was not impressed with the gyro take out from last time that came with sour cream instead of advertised tzatziki sauce,,,, The place is a small hole in the wall. The decor is kitschy and ok, seems cozy. very little parking. Food has been consistently good but kind of expensive.... but large portions make up for it, and the quality is good. My only real criticism is the unprofessionalism that seems to reoccur, and the menu being funky (inaccurate prices and false descriptions of what is actually is in your food). This is easily compensated by the quality food and family-friendly atmosphere. Seafood was very good and the chicken parm was good. Katrina my waitress was sweet and attentive. I used to go here years and years ago, I moved away and returned to the area last Spring. I remembered this place and thought I'd give it a shot. Because it's on my way home, I had been stopping by occasionally to pick up a meal - usually on Friday. The vibe was okay, the food was okay, and the lady working was always friendly, upbeat and helpful, so... why not. The last couple of Fridays when I have gone in my friendly lady hasn't been there. My service experience changed for sure, and not for the better. The gals now are .... slow! Not engaging! Unkept and messy looking - kind of unclean! Not the experience I'm looking for. The last time I had to wait a long time for my take out. While waiting, I had a chance to look around...there is no question the place has been run into the ground over the years. I was usually in and out and never notice how dirty it is, the floors, the walls, the windows, and if the staff is using that dirty bathroom then serving my food, that's disgusting. It's bad. When there's never a wait, I draw a concern. When I started paying attention.... the lady cooking (no gloves), the service (slow and blah), the cleanliness (dirty), I realized the only thing I could give 1 thumbs up for was my Friday woman that served me (she was delightful and charming). She seems to be gone and I am too. It's sad to say, but I don't think I'll be back. Hey Fisherman's, do yourself a favor, close your doors for a few months, then put some time, energy and money into the pace and make it habitable (heck, up to standard). We are frequently in the Dedham area and this restaurant is an absolute family favorite. The menu is extensive, homemade clam chowder, delicious lobster rolls, generous fish and chips serving. We've ordered non fish dishes a few times and never dissapointed. This restaurant discriminates against people of Color and different ethnicity. They charged me double the cost of my lunch and when I questioned them they stated the menu price was old and needed updating and they continued to give shady and weak excuses. So they thought if they took off the charge of my drink and the taxes, it would suffice. What happened to my friend who ordered the same seafood plate as another white customer , my friend's plate had far less fish,etc. We will not come back and as I belong to a few national organizations and local organizations, I will share our experiences with them. For a comfortable little mom and pop place the food wasn't good at all. I'll agree with the guy who mentioned that the lobster roll is horrible. It looked, felt and tasted like over salted imitation crab meat. And that's a compliment because they also doused it in some nasty pink mayo sauce. Maybe it came from a can. I've never not finished a lobster roll. This was a first. The muffins come in a package and the lobster bisque tasted like it was made over a week ago. The cream in it was turning and a bit sour. This place is great for an inexpensive breakfast (check out the picture I took of a breakfast that cost $4.99). The owners are so nice and the food is good and so affordable. We live 30 minutes South of Dedham and if we have plans to head up North, we always ma ke a point of stopping at Fishermans for breakfast. It does not look like much on the outside, but the inside is cute. They have tables and they have have the old fashion breakfast bar with stools. They serve lunch and dinner too but I've only had pizza from there that we ordered out, but it was great if you like Greek style pizza, which we do. My mom, who lived in Dedham and is no longer with us (god rest her soul) used to get fish here at lunch and dinner. I mean the place is called "Fishermans" so fish is probably their specialty. The eggplant parm sub today was amazing. i was there about 6-7 years ago and had just about the worst lobster roll possible. i told a little birdie/employee and that little birdie there told me that they were trying to convince the person responsible to change the recipe. i hope they have! as others have stated, it is old school. very.old.school. which is sometimes better, right? i'm down with kitch fo sho.' When you walk in you feel like you're a part of the entendres family that's been called in for supper. Appetizer was fried calamari. The breading was flaky and crisp. The fish was fresh. The tartar sauce was a tantalizing complement, although I liked to add a touch of hot sauce. Meal was the hamburger sub. The bread was perfectly crisp but soft. The burger didn't make it soggy, which was a thin patty that was cooked to a tasty medium. The hot peppers have a kick but are packed with a ton of flavor.
