We came here specifically bc they said they had steamers, but they did not :( We ate anyway and ordered several fried seafood plates, a lobster roll, and onion rings. The clams were fine, but didn't taste super fresh. The scallops were my favorite, but that's not saying much... The onion rings were good too, but we did find a fried gnat-like bug along with them. If it was a bigger bug I probably would've been more bothered but this one wasn't that bad. Service was fast though and the girl taking our order was friendly! One spot we actually went to down the road serve lobster rolls with mayo. In our family, it's buttered or bust. Because let's be real, that's the only right way to roll. If you're a pescatarian, The Clam Box is your paradise. From broiled seafood to crispy fried options, I think they have raw clams (no oysters) and of course buttery lobster rolls (they've got the mayo version too), this place has it all. Clam B. isn't fancy by any means- but what it lacks in style, it makes up for it in seafood options. We knew exactly what we wanted from the start: 3 buttered lobster rolls, 3 waters to quench our thirst, 1 crab cake, and a large order of fried oysters. Everything hit the spot nicely. Though the lobster rolls could've used a touch more butter and the bread felt more like a thick slice of bread than the classic split-top roll. All it really needed was a proper hot dog bun to hold all that delicious meat in place. Service seemed fine. And at just a little over $180, Clam B. isn't exactly cheap for a no-frills joint, but the lobster quality and portions seriously justify the price- especially if seafood is your love language. read more

Stumbled upon this place. Ordered a lobster roll was $34 large portions of lobster but no flavor, underwhelming. The seafood chowder was watery with little to no clams, no flavor . The fried shrimp had no seasoning at all. Quality doesn't match the price. Staff is friendly. read more

#1 a small whole clam is $32! #2 the bellies were disgustingly dirty with so much black muck in them. I don't eat that crap. I don't know why anyone would eat. It's mud - so they were not clean. #3 the clams were absolutely tasteless #4 the clam container was not even full. They could've easily put four more in #5 it took time to take all that muck out of the bellies, and I brought it back to the counter and told them for $32 they should serve clean clams. I don't need to get a tetanus shot!! I will not go back to that place again this year unless they get their act together and give the customer the respect they deserve!! Order & pay at the counter and you're given a number; when your order is ready, they will call your number. In the meantime, get your utensils, napkins and sauces while you wait, then grab a table. We came from out of town, and we're so lucky that The Clam Box was open so early in the season! Not only were they open, but it wasn't crowded at all, and we got parking right across the street. Don't expect this during their peak season! Apparently, this place is very popular, and I can see why! We opted for the 3-Way platter ($31.99), which is great for those like us who want to try many items! The platter also came with coleslaw & lemon, and a very generous portion of French fries. Classic spot for fried seafood in Quincy close to the beach. There's plenty of parking along the beach but it tends to be packed when there's good weather. The seafood plate had a generous portion of seafood for the money. I recommend this option if you want a bit of everything. It's perfectly fried with a good coating of breading. You get a good size for the fish and I really liked the jumbo shrimp with how it was cut to make a double curved shape. My favorites are the scallops and clam belly, they are just classics. The Clam Box is a Quincy classic! I've been going here for years with my family and we've never really been disappointed. They recently changed owners so I decided to pay The Clam Box a visit for the first time since then. The new owners are still upkeeping the great quality and freshness of the seafood. I got their seafood platter (which is the most worth, in my opinion) and shared it with a friend. It's market price now, but it ran us about $34 total. The seafood platter comes with a side of fries and coleslaw, and of course, the star of the show, a variety of seafood. The seafood platter has fish, whole-belly clams, scallops, and shrimp. I used to not like their fries, but I think they're actually better now! They're much more crispy now and not as soggy. Maybe I came on a good day. Their seafood was perfectly fried and battered. They gave us such a large serving of seafood and everything was fresh. They definitely did not skimp out on anything. I'm not the biggest fan of their coleslaw, but you don't go to a seafood place for the best coleslaw in the world. Everything came out super quickly (no more than 10 minutes) and the service was speedy yet friendly. Anyways, I can't wait to come back later in the summer with my family. The Clam Box is a classic restaurant along Wollaston Beach. It's been there since 1968 (although they recently are under new management). They serve mostly fried seafood, but also lobster rolls and clam chowder. It's a very casual restaurant and convenient to visit on your next trip to the beach. There is ample easy and free parking along the beach. The restaurant is spacious with indoor and outdoor dining tables. You order at the front and then the rest is self serve. They have a sauce station with ketchup and tartar sauce. My friend and I split the Seafood Platter which included whole belly clams, scallops, shrimp, and fish with onion rings and cole slaw as sides. The best were the whole belly clams and scallops as they had the most flavor. I will probably just order the whole belly clams next time. The shrimp and fish were lackluster and the onion rings didn't have much taste. The portion was good for the price. read more

Not as big as they were before. The onion rings and fries used to fill the entire plate - now you get 5 onion rings and/ or a quarter of fries. Today, I visited the Clam Box for lunch, a seafood platter and a pint of scallops were ordered. The portions of seafood were of ample size even though the cost of the two items plus a clam chowder was 80+ for lunch. The scallops were huge and very dense, as far as the seafood platter went, there was some kind of fish, whole belly clams, scallops, and butterflied shrimp. Everything visually looked appealing. we substituted the fries for onion rings. But the positives stopped there. The scallops as I commented earlier were dense, too dense, not really sweet, and some with a slight freezer taste. The shrimp were okay from a texture perspective and no freezer taste there, not much taste at all for that matter. The best item of the bunch was the whole belly clams, the clams themselves did taste generally like I expected them to, so no issue there. I also had a container of Clam Chowder, it was watery, far from the creamy experience I was looking for, again, not much flavor there, except for what the clams themselves provided. But the quantity of clams they did provide was adequate. The ambiance is what you would expect, not much to say there, it's a place near the water that's for a casual dining experience. I will say the staff were all friendly, nice, and accommodating. You buy from the counter, pickup at another area, and bring the food back to your table. I did have several interactions with staff and they were all positive. In summary, I will not return as I found the food bland and maybe that would be okay if the seafood itself was a 10 out of 10, but I have trouble with the 80+ tab with the taste experience we received. I much prefer some other places not far from this spot, but since they were already closed for the season, I figured I would try out this spot, and I did get a taste of their experience. read more

I was so excited for the season to start and go back to Tony's Clam Box, but very disappointed. We had a Seafood plate for $41.95 and a lobster roll for $38.95, and it was horrible. The Seafood plate was all overcooked, some of the clams and scallops were burnt, tough, and the fried food was very dark, as if the oil was old. Some French fries were mushy, and others were burnt. The coleslaw was mostly mayo, wet, and soggy. Awful food for $80.00 and only 2 dishes. The bathroom was beyond dirty, just filthy, not fit to use. Do not recommend and we will not be back. read more

From start to finish the entire experience was flawless. I was greeted as soon as I entered the building by not one, but three, eager to serve employees. A large copy of the menu took up a good portion of the wall and made it easy to decide what I wanted before I even stepped in line. As this was my first visit to the East Coast I wanted to try something I couldn't easily get back home. I opted for the seafood platter which came with a serving of "whole belly clams". I had no idea what that meant and when I asked for an explanation the kid behind the counter lit up. He explained the dish and you could tell he was eager for someone else to try what he considered was one of the best items on the menu. The kids had chicken nuggets and fish and chips, pretty much the standard for those two bozos. The plates arrived within a few minutes and the portion size alone took impressed me. The platter was loaded down with a variety of seafood standards: butterflied jumbo shrimp, clams, hand battered onion rings, scallops, a generously sized piece of fish, and a scoop of homemade slaw. After taking in how delicious it all looked I started to eat. Each bite was better than the last. I try to avoid fried foods but in this case I couldn't resist. Everything tasted so fresh and distinct. Definitely not the frozen shrimp and bottom feeding catfish I'm used to eating back home. Both of the kids enjoyed their meals too, my son noting "this is like McDonald's, only way better!" Well worth the price, this was the first time in a long time I couldn't finish my meal and had to get a to-go box for the remaining oysters and onion rings. I wanted to indulge in a genuine, no frills, plate of Massachusetts sea fare and in this case my Google results did not disappoint. The clam box in my opinion should be a local monument. It is open seasonally, but it is worth going to everything is super fresh and worth waiting in line for they changed their oil throughout the day so there is a time where they stop serving food to change the oil, but it is well worth it.
