Shucking Amazing: (Maybe A Sprinkle Of Salt Would Make These Fried Oysters Pop Even More)
    Mercedes C.

We didn't want to head back home without having lunch with our daughter on our last day in Boston. As she's exploring areas near her home and venturing into neighboring towns, Quincy, MA caught her attention- a coastal escape from Boston's bustle. With Quincy Bay just across the street, the residential side of town has a charming seaside vibe. It actually reminded us a bit of City Island in NY. Quincy offers that same coastal charm- but on a much grander and less chaotic scale. Quincy, MA has its fair share of seafood joints. One spot we actually went to down the road serve lobster rolls with mayo. In our family, it's buttered or bust. Because let's be real, that's the only right way to roll. If you're a pescatarian, The Clam Box is your paradise. From broiled seafood to crispy fried options, I think they have raw clams (no oysters) and of course buttery lobster rolls (they've got the mayo version too), this place has it all. Clam B. isn't fancy by any means- but what it lacks in style, it makes up for it in seafood options. We knew exactly what we wanted from the start: 3 buttered lobster rolls, 3 waters to quench our thirst, 1 crab cake, and a large order of fried oysters. Everything hit the spot nicely. Though the lobster rolls could've used a touch more butter and the bread felt more like a thick slice of bread than the classic split-top roll. All it really needed was a proper hot dog bun to hold all that delicious meat in place. Service seemed fine. And at just a little over $180, Clam B. isn't exactly cheap for a no-frills joint, but the lobster quality and portions seriously justify the price- especially if seafood is your love language.

This seasonal gem was more than I expected! The food, the customer service and the quality of the food stands out the most. The outdoor seating option was also a added bonus.

Great spot for seafood on the water! Awesome views, ample seating indoors and outside on the patio. Everything tasted really fresh. Everything seemed to be good sized except for the scallop plate we got - the portions on that felt a bit skimpy. We didn't have to wait too long for our food which was nice.

Fried fresh seafood with a spectacular view! What more can you ask for?!?! This place is casual dining; no waiter service. Order & pay at the counter and you're given a number; when your order is ready, they will call your number. In the meantime, get your utensils, napkins and sauces while you wait, then grab a table. We came from out of town, and we're so lucky that The Clam Box was open so early in the season! Not only were they open, but it wasn't crowded at all, and we got parking right across the street. Don't expect this during their peak season! Apparently, this place is very popular, and I can see why! We opted for the 3-Way platter ($31.99), which is great for those like us who want to try many items! The platter also came with coleslaw & lemon, and a very generous portion of French fries. We chose these 3 items: - Fried Scallops: perfection! - Fried Whole Belly Clams: they were on the small side, but great nonetheless. - Fried Oysters: Very Good! See my photos for their many menu items. There is something for everyone! Note for NYers: this place is equivalent to Johnny's Reef in City Island! Yup, great stuff! Go!

The Clam Box is the place to go get your fried seafood! They have tasty clam chowder, fresh clam bellies, and scallops. It is located right on Wollaston Beach and has outdoor seating available. This is a great place to visit for fresh fried seafood, especially during the summer time!

Classic spot for fried seafood in Quincy close to the beach. There's plenty of parking along the beach but it tends to be packed when there's good weather. The seafood plate had a generous portion of seafood for the money. I recommend this option if you want a bit of everything. It's perfectly fried with a good coating of breading. You get a good size for the fish and I really liked the jumbo shrimp with how it was cut to make a double curved shape. My favorites are the scallops and clam belly, they are just classics. The staff are friendly and the seafood is fresh.

It's so nice to have this place back open for the season! What's not to love? Fresh fried seafood with hearty portions, friendly service and a view of the water and Boston skyline while you eat! Definitely a place to be while on Wollaston Beach.

The Clam Box is a Quincy classic! I've been going here for years with my family and we've never really been disappointed. They recently changed owners so I decided to pay The Clam Box a visit for the first time since then. The new owners are still upkeeping the great quality and freshness of the seafood. I got their seafood platter (which is the most worth, in my opinion) and shared it with a friend. It's market price now, but it ran us about $34 total. The seafood platter comes with a side of fries and coleslaw, and of course, the star of the show, a variety of seafood. The seafood platter has fish, whole-belly clams, scallops, and shrimp. I used to not like their fries, but I think they're actually better now! They're much more crispy now and not as soggy. Maybe I came on a good day. Their seafood was perfectly fried and battered. They gave us such a large serving of seafood and everything was fresh. They definitely did not skimp out on anything. I'm not the biggest fan of their coleslaw, but you don't go to a seafood place for the best coleslaw in the world. Everything came out super quickly (no more than 10 minutes) and the service was speedy yet friendly. Anyways, I can't wait to come back later in the summer with my family. If you're in Quincy, definitely make sure to check this place out!

The Clam Box is a classic restaurant along Wollaston Beach. It's been there since 1968 (although they recently are under new management). They serve mostly fried seafood, but also lobster rolls and clam chowder. It's a very casual restaurant and convenient to visit on your next trip to the beach. There is ample easy and free parking along the beach. The restaurant is spacious with indoor and outdoor dining tables. You order at the front and then the rest is self serve. They have a sauce station with ketchup and tartar sauce. My friend and I split the Seafood Platter which included whole belly clams, scallops, shrimp, and fish with onion rings and cole slaw as sides. The best were the whole belly clams and scallops as they had the most flavor. I will probably just order the whole belly clams next time. The shrimp and fish were lackluster and the onion rings didn't have much taste. The portion was good for the price.

They were out of eggs, so I got a pork bun which was fluffy and delicious as well. They had a medium sized-menu with a good selection of your run of the mill American cafe staples as well as options that are harder to find in this area -- Saipao buns, ube lattes, lumpia... I was getting pissed off on the highway on my way to the school in Boston so I pulled off and was looking for a cafe somewhere in Milton or Quincy to work in until the traffic died off a little and found this on Apple Maps. So glad I stopped in! The cafe is bright and home-y, and they also are clearly trying to be a place to build community in the area. They have a whole library and check out system it seems for people to borrow books, and based on the signs welcome in anyone that needs to use the restroom or respite from whatever weather is going on! I used one of their tables and worked on some schoolwork, but they also had a variety of soft seating available. They had a really good playlist that had a great beat but was still kinda chill. It wasn't super busy, probably since it was midday on a Thursday, but damn it should be busier in there! Great spot... will most likely be stopping here the next time I find myself screaming at other cars and needing to calm my road rage. Another note: I saw a sign and it looks like they have a way for people to hold events here. If you had a community group that needed a spot to have meet ups I think this would be a great spot

Case in point--the turf bagel. I love it so much that sometimes it's hard for me to order anything else. Drinks are a mixed bag for me. Their matcha (hot or iced) is solid, but I always need to sweeten it. The limeade was too bitter for my taste, and the rickey-style drink didn't quite hit my sweetness preference either. Chai (both hot and iced) is nice, but definitely add vanilla. Next on my list to try? The grilled cheese. I've been coming here for years, and the space is not big, but when it gets packed -- good luck. There are barstools facing the window and smaller tables throughout, but navigating the space can be tricky, so I wouldn't call it fully accessible. Still, the atmosphere makes up for a lot--it's got that community café element that I personally love. Overall, Homestead is the kind of place you want to experience for yourself: come for the food (which will always deliver), try the drinks with your own preferences in mind, and soak in the sense of community.
