Family owned store that sells more than fish, run by a very pleasant husband and wife couple. This place is old school, people call in to place fish orders and ask what's good that day. The owner/husband goes and gets the fish fresh every day so the selection you have is guaranteed fresh. They will fillet / debone it for you right there. There's also terrific cheese and olive selections that you can pick from + other fun things from jams to breads and green groceries, herbs and spices at far more competitive prices than the supermarket. I am really glad the Roslindale Fish Market is here. This place is a great supplement to my weekly grocery shopping trip because big chains and non-specialty stores don't get seafood this fresh. I recently made fideos with clams and saffron using clams from here, and the quality was unbeatable. They genuinely popped like cherry tomatoes when I chewed them. A couple tips. Bring cash; card isn't accepted. I wish they would accept card too, but this place has been here since before I was born. Respect. If you want something specific, call a few days ahead. Fish don't know you want to cook them in advance, so the market will need a heads up when you want fresh ingredients. Plan ahead. It's worth it! There's a lot of international chocolate for sale. So I know the owner. He comes into the produce market in Chelsea to buy my highest quality fruit. From there he heads to the Fish Pier and selects the days freshest availability. Whether it's cod, salmon, swordfish, scallops etc. He buys what he needs for the day and does it all over again the next day. Talk about fresh!!! After getting my wallet taken from me at Whole Foods three weeks ago when my two boys 18 and 20, along with their two friends asked it I would grab some swordfish and cook it on the grill (I have a killer recipe that they love). Not even paying attention to the cost of the fish, my 3lbs of fish cost me $54....hello!. Anyways, the owner Pete comes in the following Tuesday. I tell him my story. And he says I don't get more than $10 a pound for any of my fish. Why don't you let me know when you need, I'll call you with what I pick up fresh and pick it up on your way home from work. Employees are SO nice at this market. The olives are one of the best I've had and the fresh feta cheese is the best I've ever had. There are also other varieties of feta cheese. I never knew. I'm torn because of two things: 1. they have really fresh fish! honestly, if it smells fishy it's not fresh at all (Now think about Legal Seafood's place reeks from a mile away).... 2. the place is a dump inside! I guess different people come here for different things. I like trying new products from Greece. The Cin cookies were awesome and the chocolate cream cookies in the blue wrapper were tasty too. That hazelnut spread is a great alternative to Nutella. It's like Nutella without the chocolate so you can really taste the hazelnut flavor. Recently, I bought a 3 liter can of extra virgin olive oil, imported from Crete, for $19, on special. That is an awesome deal if you consider that a half liter of the Goya brand usually goes for about $7 or so. I think the stuff from Crete tastes better too! The lady at the shop said it's a little stronger than the other can that was on sale. At some point, I want to try the fish. read more

Love this place! I live down the street and this is an amazing fresh fish market to have locally. The owner selects the fish on a daily basis, based on what looks best. Unbeatable prices, freshness and quality. The shop is run by a husband and wife team who couldn't be nicer. The fish is the best-priced and freshest I've found in all my years as a Bostonian -- Peter cleans and filets the fish on site and is often covered with scales if you visit early in the day. They buy only the best-looking fish on the dock and will offer a limited selection rather than selling anything that's less than excellent. I just moved to Rozzie and read the great reviews on yelp so I checked this little market out this afternoon. They do call themselves a fish market but as others mentioned the selection is VERY limited. The owners told me that they only buy what is really fresh and reasonably priced and told me I can call any weekday and tell them what I want over the phone and they will hold it for me until I get out of work. That is really cool. They gave me their card and welcomed me to town. I ended up snagging a huge bag of scallops and a huge bag of shrimp that were surprisingly affordably priced. I wish I liked olives because they have so many types. I am psyched about the selection of fresh cheeses and all the produce and specialty items they carry. As a Greek transplant, my dad knows what's up when it comes to authentic Greek products. He has been coming to the Fish Market for as long as I can remember for the best Greek cheeses - feta, mizithra, kefalotiri, etc, olives, and anything else Greek you can think of (olive oil, salt, semolina, pasta, cookies, juice, etc). I had a cousin visiting from Greece this past spring and we came here to shop for galaktoboureko, a Greek dessert. We were having some trouble with the translation of a particular ingredient, which I understood as "ammonia". Never having heard of baking with ammonia before, I asked Hope (co-owner) and she knew exactly what I was talking about and handed over a small plastic container with white powder. Sure enough, it's ammonia bicarbonate. Who knew? I usually come for the cheese/olives/Greek products since I'm not close enough to use them as a regular grocery, but they do have a decent selection of produce. I have bought the occasional tomato or onion, and they have always been fresh and tasty. I have not bought fish from them so can't comment, but I think my dad does. Overall, this place is wonderful. This little Greek market actually has a pretty small fish selection. They told me they don't always get fish in on Saturdays, which doesn't make sense because Saturday is by far the highest traffic day in Roslindale. I went in one Saturday and they had nothing but scallops. One early Friday afternoon they had three varieties and shrimp. Another Saturday I snagged a nice whole red snapper. Prices are quite reasonable for the quality, and the owners are so nice. They do have plenty of fresh veggies, feta, Greek staples and giant vats of olives - eight or 10 varieties, and the lady is happy to describe them all. read more
